Time to assess
Time is running out! For
many, the “summer season”
ends soon with school starting
and Labor Day fast approaching. However, plenty of business opportunities remain as
we ease into the second part of
the calendar year, and for many
businesses, the start of a fiscal
year.
Some things to consider as
we near the end of this busy
summer season are three of
the more common complaints
small business faces – shoddy
work, missed appointments and
unreturned phone calls. Any
one of these can negatively impact your business, especially
in small communities such as
ours, where word-of-mouth and
referrals account for much of
our business.
These complaints can sneak
up on us all with increased
tourism business, personal and
family obligations, vacations,
etc. We must accept these as
challenges in living and working in this coastal environment
and learn to balance the lifestyle
with the “work style.” Remain
diligent in offering the highest quality in service not only
to our guests, but also to those
who live here.

President’s
Message
By Darryl Marsh
––––––––
It may seem extreme to
many, but asking a friend,
distant family member
or casual acquaintance to
act as a “secret
shopper” may
reveal some interesting information on your
business. This
could prove to be a good testing
tool in helping to maintain the
highest level of customer service for your business.

On a lighter note, not only
is August National Family Fun
Month and National Peach
Month, but it is also National
Golf Month and National Picnic
Month. So letʼs celebrate by
baking a peach cobbler for a
family fun picnic followed by a
round of golf!

Boating problem?
No problem!
The coastal way of life and
boating go hand in hand. Itʼs
hard to have one without the
other. And who would really
want to, anyway?
With this in mind, it should
comes as no surprise that a
majority of area residents make
sure to have at least one vessel handy to launch into the
picturesque waters surrounding
Swansboro. Whether you are
island hopping, exploring the
inlets, watching the sun set or
aiming to catch the “Big One,”
boating is more of a way of life
than a luxury along the coast of
North Carolina.
Whatʼs your preference?
Skiff? Sailboat? Or perhaps
youʼre one of the lucky ones
and do your cruising in a yacht.
Regardless of your chosen
mode of aquatic transportation,
one thing you can always count
on is that your investment in
water fun is going to need a
little bit of TLC every now and
then. Youʼll want to take your
water baby to an experienced
professional for any maintenance and repairs. Treat your
boat right and it will be ready
when you want it.
Located conveniently along
the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in Hubert, White Gold
Marine Services is an easy answer to a wide variety of boating problems. Owner/broker
James Lawler has been working
on boats since his early teens,
graduating from boat mechanicʼs school (Universal Technical
School) in Orlando, Fla., and
hired by Armstrong Marine
right out of the gate. In fact,
heʼs worked on boats all over
the world for the last 15 years,
and now (lucky

he has decided
to bring his lat––––––––
est company to
the Hubert facility and call the
area home.
Most local residents are
familiar with the White Gold
Marine Services/Armstrong
Marine location. The plant,
located towards the end of Hogans Road, has housed Chris
Craft Yachts, Hatteras Yachts,
and Tiara Yachts, among others.
Currently, Armstrong Marine
calls it home and White Gold
Marine Services rents its space
from Armstrong Marine.
What makes the location
ideal for White Gold Marine
Services? James and his staff
have access to a fully equipped,
covered facility with a 75metric ton travel lift, able to
pull boats as large as 90 feet
from the water. The 50-plus
acre property is adjacent to the
Intracoastal Waterway, making
it a convenient setting for both
James and his clients.
“We can take care of almost
any boating problem right
here,” James noted. “So far,
weʼve done engine work on
everything from a $1,500 boat
up to a $4.2 million boat. I have

BullsEye helps you hit your target market
How many times have you
heard that, to effectively promote your business, you have
to “think outside the box?” You
have to do something different
than the other guy. Thatʼs how
you catch the attention of your
target market. And thatʼs how
you make your business successful.
Eddie Holland founded
BullsEye Advertising in October 2014 on exactly this principle … doing something different than the other guy. Already
a familiar face to area residents
due to his years with N.C. Farm
Bureau Insurance, Holland said
he founded his advertising venture after extensive … research.
“At first, we were trying to
reach women” he noted. “My
wife works with Onslow Pregnancy Resource Center and
thatʼs really how this all began.
We wanted to reach young
women, and everything else sort
of grew from that.”
Whatʼs different about BullsEye Advertising? Letʼs start
with ad locations. You wonʼt
find BullsEyeʼs ads in magazines or newspapers. Not on
the television or radio, either.
But glance around the next time
you use the restroom at your
favorite business
and you may be ––––––––

BullsEye measure a sizeable 8
inches by10 inches. Four ads
are grouped together to make
up each framed billboard. And,
they can be seen in locations
throughout Onslow County.
Restaurants, marinas, gyms,
bowling alleys, bars … all are
homes to BullsEyeʼs billboards,
placing ads in an area where
competition is fairly non-existence.
“You have a captive audience when you advertise with
us,” Holland explained. “We
help you reach your target audience up close and personal with
full color ads at competitive rates.” Each
inside billboard has,
at most, four ads. Ads
have plenty of room
for text and full-color
pictures. And, because
of its strategic location, that all-important
message is not diluted
by outdoor distractions.
“This type of advertising has been
around the nation
since the ʼ80s but
weʼre the first company to bring it to this
area,” Holland observed. Customers can
pick and choose locations from BullsEyeʼs

“We know first hand this
type of advertising works,” he
continued. “Weʼve used it for
Farm Bureau so we know.”
BullsEyeʼs first advertisers
included T&W Oyster Bar and
Goldʼs Gym. Now, the company has progressed to more
than 20 locations in a variety
of areas including Jacksonville,
Swansboro, Richlands, and
New Bern. His main goal is
“to help clients promote their
places of business any way possible.”
