Securing personal and financial documents under lock and key will
help keep all your documents organized and will prevent them from
being accessed by someone who could use the information to steal
your identity. It is also a good idea to store hard to replace
documents, such as Social Security cards, birth certificates, marriage
Join Us in “Helping Make Miracles Happen”
And “Saving the Aina For The Children”
Stop by any Hickam FCU branch and purchase your designer, eco-friendly,
reusable tote bags. This beautiful, durable laminated and reinforced bag was
custom designed to help raise funds to support the Kapi’olani Children’s
Miracle Network while visually reminding us how important it is to preserve
the beauty of our islands for our keiki in keeping with the plastic bag ban
effective July 1.
In addition, the funds raised will be matched by CO-OP Financial
Services as part of its CO-OP Miracle Match program. This $1 million
annual matching funds program matches contributions at the local level,
expanding the contributions raised by credit unions for Children’s Miracle
Network Hospitals.
Every single dollar helps to help make a miracle! Together, we can make
miracles happen.

Supporting the
Special Olympics of Hawaii
Recently, Hickam FCU provided its state-of-the-art digital Keiki
ID service to nearly 100 keiki at the Special Olympics Youth
Athletes Program. The Keiki ID service provides parents the
opportunity to capture vital information such as a photo,
fingerprint, and descriptive details on a wallet-size ID card. The
Keiki ID Card, which is kept in the parents’ possession, is used
to aid authorities in the event that a keiki becomes missing.
Lending a Hand to the
Girl Scouts “Lei of Aloha”
Service Project
On Saturday, May 22, Hickam FCU joined more than 15 Girl
Scouts Troops from across the island of Oahu in their “Lei of
Aloha” service project to string flower leis used to decorate the
9,000 gravesites at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in
Kaneohe. To support the project, Hickam FCU raised more than
$2,030 from its membership, which was then used to purchase
29,000 orchid flowers. The donation of orchid flowers enabled
the Girl Scouts to make over 1,100 flower leis towards their goal
of making 10,000 leis. Also, Hickam FCU staff volunteers joined
in to string leis at the Girl Scouts lei-making event held at
Windward Mall.
16th Annual
Friends of Hickam
Keiki Fishing Tournament
Hickam FCU was once
again proud to support the
16th Annual Friends of
Hickam Keiki Fishing
Tournament held at
Ho‘omaluhia Botanical
Gardens in Kaneohe. Over
100 military members from
Joint Base Pearl HarborHickam and their keiki took
part in the fun filled day of
fishing and family time. The
day began with lunch in the
beautiful lush garden.
Following lunch, the excited
keiki and their parents stood
along the shore of the
Ho‘omaluhia Lake and
hauled in the bright colored
fish using bamboo poles with bread as bait. After the thrill of
fishing, the families enjoyed cool refreshments while each of the
keiki received prizes including a fishing rod and reel set, a t-shirt,
and goody bags. Trophies were also awarded in several categories
including most fish caught, largest fish caught, and more.
Hickam FCU Goes
“Hollywood”
For Worthwhile Cause
Hickam FCU believes in “making a difference in our members’
lives” but we also believe it is important to reach out and make a
difference in our community as well. That’s why the Hickam
FCU ‘ohana is proud to give back to the United Cerebral Palsy
Association of Hawaii. With the help of generous staff, Hickam
FCU was able to raise over $950 during our United Cerebral
Palsy Association “Hollywood Party” themed Casual Day event.

Beware of Tech Support Scams
It is important to stay on top of the latest identity theft scams and
trends to avoid becoming a victim. A scam that has been gaining
popularity is the computer tech support scam. This scam involves
fraudsters pretending to be from a well-known software company’s
technical support that calls unsuspecting individuals in an attempt
to coerce the victim into allowing access to their computers. The
scammer advises the victim that an error or virus has been
detected on the victim’s computer. The scammer offers to fix the
problem for a fee in the guise of a lifetime anti-virus maintenance
plan. The scammer may also ask the victim to download a software
to find or fix the error. Doing so may install a malware or spyware
on to the computer, which would allow the scammer to remotely
take control of the computer and gain access to passwords, bank
accounts, and other private information.
Major software or computer companies do not make unsolicited
phone calls to consumers informing them that something is wrong
with their computer. If you receive one of these calls hang up. Or,
if you feel you are a victim, run a legitimate virus scan on your
computer and then change passwords for email, online bank
accounts, and other accounts. And, inform your financial institution
or law enforcement authorities that you may have been a victim.
Exciting Debit and Credit Card News!
Hickam FCU Switching from
Visa® to MasterCard®
Along with the implementation of
EMV (Euro MasterCard/Visa) chip
card security technology on its
credit and debit cards, the credit
union will be also be switching card
processing from Visa to MasterCard.
The chip cards offer security features
that thwart fraud; while traditional magnetic stripes cannot. In
the following months, look for further announcements about this
exciting conversion happening in September.
