Bewarecof Cashierí scCheckcScams Hickam FCU would like our members to be aware that fraudsters have produced counterfeit cashier’s checks using the credit union’s information and image to appear legitimate. The fraudsters are using the counterfeit checks to scam victims by claiming to be from a Mystery Shopper marketing firm. The fraudsters ask the victims to purchase gift cards with funds from a fraudulent cashier’s check. Once the gift cards are purchased the victim is then asked to send the card number and PIN information on the back of the gift card to the fraudster. Individuals in Hawaii and several states across the Mainland have received these checks and deposited them to their financial institution, which in turn alerted Hickam FCU of the counterfeit checks. If you receive a solicitation from a Mystery Shopper and receive a Hickam FCU cashier’s check, do not deposit or make any purchases. If you have questions to the authenticity of the check, feel free to call the credit union at 808-423-1391 or toll-free from the mainland at 1-800-432-4328. PRSRT STD U.S. Postage PAID P. O.
