HARWOOD, Eileen
Eileen Harwood age 68 of Calgary formerly of
Cochrane, Alberta passed away peacefully with
her family on Monday February 23rd 2015 to be
with Jesus.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday,
February 28th at RockPointe Church in Bearspaw
at 2:00pm. Reception to follow. 255024 Lochend

LUFT, Lawrence, Delbert
Lawrence Delbert Luft was born in Didsbury, Alberta
on April 5, 1926, and passed shortly before his 89th
birthday. He was the eldest boy, predeceased
by his brother Norman and survived by his sister
Eleanor (Martin) and youngest brother Donald.
The family farmed west of Didsbury until 1938
when they bought and moved to the current home
section in the Cremona area. Shortly after their
move, as the eldest of the family, Eleanor took on
the major responsibility of raising and feeding the
family when their mother Elizabeth passed away
suddenly in 1942. Lawrence attended school at the
Rugby school and later at Mount Hope, a four mile roundtrip ride
on horseback. After school, Lawrence continued to help his father
on the farm as well as starting and operating a general trucking
business, hauling a variety of cargo including groceries for the Bottrel
store, gasoline, grain and cattle (sometimes in the same load!).
The three brothers farmed separately on 3 adjoining half sections.
Lawrence lived and worked with his father John for many years on the
homestead before finding and marrying the love of his life Georgina
(Brain). They married in 1979 and ultimately settled on the family farm
after his father’s passing in 1981. Lawrence loved the farm life. He
and Georgina also spent many months and years travelling in their
RV until health concerns kept them closer to home. Georgina moved
into the seniors lodge in Carstairs and Lawrence drove daily to spend
their days together, wearing out at least two Ford pickups before
her passing in 2008. Lawrence also spent these years enjoying his
beautifully maintained yard and ‘supervising’ the farming operations
off his Quad until moving into the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane
in 2010. Lawrence passed on Thursday, February 18 at the Foothills
Hospital after many days recovering from a fall. He is survived by his
sister Eleanor (Ray) and his brother Don. He will be greatly missed
by his friends and family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 26, 2015 at 2:00
p.m. at Zion Evangelical Missionary Church, Didsbury with Pastor
Mike Morgan officiating. Interment to follow in the Didsbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the
Bethany Care Centre, Cochrane.
