(March 03, 2013) – The epic of all epics, Lawrence of Arabia cements director David Lean's status in the filmmaking pantheon with nearly four hours of grand scope, brilliant performances, and beautiful cinematography. Widely considered one of the greatest and most influential films in the history of cinema, this masterpiece returns to the big screen in Bozeman exactly 50 years to the day after its historic sweep of the Academy Awards on April 8th, 1963. Viewers will be mesmerized by this 4K digitally-restored version of the Director’s Cut. Following its international debut at Festival Du Cannes in May 2012, Lawrence of Arabia has screened nationwide in digital-only theatrical events in theaters since its U.S. premiere of the new restoration took place in Los Angeles with a special 4K presentation at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Bozeman Film Festival is now pleased to present this beautifully restored film to Bozeman’s Gallatin Valley Cinema on Monday - April 8th, 2013 at 6:30pm. See this masterpiece the way it was meant to be seen! “Lawrence of Arabia” stars Peter O’Toole in his career-making performance as T.E. Lawrence. A young, idealistic British officer in WWI, Lawrence is assigned to the camp of Prince Feisal, an Arab tribal chieftain and leader in a revolt against the Turks. In a series of brilliant tactical maneuvers, Lawrence leads 50 of Feisal’s men in a tortured three-week crossing of the Nefud Desert to attack the strategic Turkish-held port of Aqaba. Following his successful raids against Turkish troops and trains, Lawrence’s triumphant leadership and unyielding courage gain him nearly god-like status among his Arab brothers. Also starring Omar Shariff, Anthony Quinn, Alek Guiness, Jose Ferrer, Jack Hawkins. Oscar Winning Score by Maurice Jarre. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards®, it went on to win seven, including Best Picture and Best Director. The original camera negative was scanned at 8K and the film went through a painstaking process of repairing problems inherent to the 50-year old film elements. Using the latest digital imaging technology, the color grading and re-mastering was completed in 4K at Sony Pictures Colorworks. “The original negative was seriously damaged in a number of ways, some problems dating from the original release and some accumulated over the years. But, until now, we did not have the tools available to address these issues. We think fans of the film will be as amazed as we are at the detail and resolution in the imagery captured by cinematographer Freddie Young to compliment David Lean’s immaculate direction.” Production Team, Sony Colorworks “Approach it from whatever angle you like, performances, script, cinematography, score; David Lean's sweeping biography of T.E. Lawrence is unarguably magnificent” Colin Colvert-Minneapolis Star Tribune Tickets for this special one-night only screening are available at Gallatin Valley Cinema box office and online at http://www.fandango.com/Bozeman_MT_movietimes/ Rated PG. 227 minutes.
