Leading the Way with Effective, Coordinated Care
2 Andover Medical Center Is Opening Soon 3 Expanding Surgical Services 4 LGH Gala Raises $1.1M for Expansions fall 2014 Lawrence General Hospital: Leading the Way with Effective, Coordinated Care Thanks to community collaboration led by Lawrence General Hospital, health care in the region is transforming. LGH has made high-quality health care an effective priority with smoother care transitions at a lower cost to patients— something Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Lawrence Mayor Daniel Rivera saw firsthand while touring the hospital recently. LGH has been successful in developing strong relationships with other community providers, investing in transitions of care support programs, and broadening access to services. These projects are funded through the Delivery System Transformation Initiatives Medicaid Waiver Program, of which the Governor has been highly supportive. “We are proud that we’ve been able to expand and coordinate care in ways that would have been impossible before,” Dianne J. Anderson, R.N., president and CEO of LGH, said to the Governor and Mayor during their tour. “We are thrilled to share with you our success stories as we build a coordinated regional health system for the Merrimack Valley.” “Investing in health care infrastructure in the Commonwealth’s Gateway Cities is critical to making health care more affordable and more effective. Lawrence General Hospital is a vital resource for Merrimack Valley residents.” —Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick So good. So caring. So close. Excellent Clinical Care, Close to Home Lawrence General Enhances Affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess Lawrence General Hospital has enhanced its clinical affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. This improved partnership will greatly expand the primary and specialty care services provided locally to the residents of the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire region. Residents won’t have to travel to Boston for excellent clinical care, as LGH will be able to provide the most appropriate care to patients in the most appropriate setting. If patients need complex specialty medical care, LGH provides a seamless transfer to Beth Israel Deaconess, with a quick return for follow-up care. LGH is also a member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization, an accountable care system that provides physician groups and hospitals the structure to contract, share risk, and build high-quality, cost-efficient care management systems together. The goal is to provide the highest quality care in the most cost-efficient way. LGH and its associated physicians also accept a portion of the financial responsibility for keeping patients as healthy as possible. “We’re excited about joining Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization and enhancing our affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center because of what it means for the patients of our region. Patients will see expanded and strengthened medical services, keeping more care local and coordinated from the doctor’s office to Lawrence General, and, if necessary, to an academic medical center.” —Dianne J. Anderson, R.N., President and CEO of Lawrence General Hospital Andover Medical Center Coming Fall 2014! The plan includes inpatient unit renovations, infrastructure upgrades and a new surgical building, replacing an operating suite that was built for another era in surgery. The hospital will construct the new 42,250-square-foot surgical building on the campus facing Haverhill Street, including new preoperative and postoperative space and state-of-the-art operating rooms. The new surgical center will provide the support LGH surgeons need to perform more complicated procedures locally, so that patients don’t have to travel to Boston for complex medical care. Inpatient unit renovations will increase the number of private patient rooms at LGH, providing a modern, restful and therapeutic environment for patients as they receive care. The plan also includes the addition of more public and private support space for families of patients—something we know will further enhance satisfaction with the “Lawrence General Experience” for patients and their loved ones. “We are extremely proud of our long history of serving the Merrimack Valley region, and all we have accomplished recently, but we are even more excited about the hospital’s future. As one of the fastest-growing hospitals in Massachusetts, we are thrilled to be building on our emerging role as an important medical center and resource for the region. We believe we are the pre-eminent regional health system our communities deserve.” —Matthew A.
