page 1 Monday, Monday, December December 7, 7, 2009 2009 Leadership Music Cheers 20 Years by Sarah Skates Leadership Music marked its 20th anniversary on Tuesday night (12/1) with a party at Nashville’s hip Hutton Hotel. Over 300 alumni reunited to celebrate the past and look toward the future of the music industry’s brightest executive training organization. Jim Ed Norman, a respected music businessman and Leadership Music founding member, discussed the organization’s vision and goal to nurture a knowledgeable, issue-oriented community of music industry professionals. Since it was established in 1989, the group has strived to foster understanding of the music industry and its surrounding community. “We want to be a magnet to creative people everywhere and draw them to Nashville,” he exclaimed. Norman also recognized his fellow LM founders, many of whom were in attendance. Several alumni spoke about Leadership Music’s important work. Jim Blumstein recalled the early days of the program, followed by Bill Ivey who recounted more recent years. And Pat Collins shared the strategic vision for moving forward. The evening marked the renaming of one of Leadership Music’s highest honors in memory of an alumnus, the late SunTrust Members of the Founding Council Jim Ed Norman, Tandy Rice, Rick Blackburn, Bill Denny, Joe Galante, Bill Ivey, Tom Collins and Joe Moscheo II. ©2009, MusicRow Communications, LLC—ALL RIGHTS RESERVED [email protected] page 2 ©2009, MusicRow Communications, LLC—ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Monday, December 7, 2009 [email protected] page 3 executive Brian Williams. Previously called the Bridge Award, it is used to salute to a leader who builds bridges between Music Row and the greater Nashville community. The Brian Williams Ambassador Award was given posthumously to Williams and was accepted by his wife Marion Williams. Alumni Robert K. Oermann and David Ross presented the award along with a video tribute. Williams now joins respected leaders including Norman, Dale Franklin, Phil Bredesen, E.W. “Bud” Wendall, Jim Foglesong, and Kitty Moon Emery, who have also received the honor. The All-Alumni All-Star Band entertained the revelers, with performers including Eddie Bayers, Dave Pomeroy, John Jarvis, Bill Lloyd, Kenny Greenberg, Radney Foster, Billy Falcon, Lari White and Mark Volman. Leadership Music memorabilia, including over 2,000 photos, was on display for guests. The nonprofit educational organization, under the leadership of executive director Kira Florita, also used the program to recognize its most loyal and long-term supporters. Visit www.LeadershipMusic.org for more on the program. Monday, December 7, 2009 Spin Zone by Jon Freeman Dierks Bentley’s “I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes” swoops in and takes over the CountryBreakout™ Chart’s No. 1 spot with 3830 spins, edging out last week’s top song “Consider Me Gone” by Reba. Current entries from Darius Rucker (“History In The Making”), Tim McGraw (“Southern Voice”) and Miranda Lambert (“White Liar”) all make significant progress toward the chart’s summit. Three new singles making their chart debut have burst onto the scene and are rapidly rising toward the top. Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home” leads the pack at No. 52 after a gain of 362 spins, followed by Zac Brown Band’s “Highway 20 Ride” at No. 54, and Love and Theft’s “Dancing In Circles” at No. 65. Other new singles debuting include Mark Chesnutt’s “Going On Later On” at No. 71 and Jonathan Singleton & The Grove’s “Look Who’s Back In Love” at No. 73. These tracks are also the three most added of the last two weeks, with support from over a third of the reporting panel. Artists from independent and small labels are picking up some significant impressions as well. Cody McCarver’s latest, “White Trash With Money,” is hanging steady at No. 28 and showing positive spin gains. Jonalee White’s “Perfect Angel” is just a few strides behind at No. 31 after a gain of 115 spins. Rounding out the top 40 are Bekka Bramlett’s “What’s On My Mind” at No. 33, Keni Thomas’s “Gunslinger” at No. 34, Matt Kennon’s “The Call” at No. 35, Big Kenny’s “Long After I’m Gone” at No. 36 and Houston County’s “I Can’t Make It Rain” at No. 40. After hanging in the top 5 for several weeks, the song gets a boost of 118 spins to take over the top spot. Bentley is reportedly going to take some time off from touring in early 2010, as he will be working on recording two projects—the follow up to Feel That Fire, and a bluegrass album. Bentley’s "Miles & Music For Kids" benefit was in Phoenix on Nov. 21, and marks the expansion of this charitable effort to other cities. Since it began four years ago, “Miles & Music” has raised over $700,000 to benefit Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
