The question comes up often, do I need to stitch extra rows before my item is finished? Too Cute! Oh my goodness! How can you resist? I can’t speak for all finishers, but I know what my finishers prefer. How can you choose? Sew Much Fun really is their name, and that’s exactly what they create - So o o Much Fun! Visit us anytime between August 11th and September 6th to see the fun that is Sew Much Fun! Most of the canvases are 3D animals complete with stitch guides, but there are also holiday canvases, florals, baby canvases and judaica! The best part is that we will have models! Yes, honest to goodness stitched models. That’s the amazing part, looking at all these fun creations trying to decide which one to adopt. And as with all our trunkshows purchase a trunkshow canvas or order one during the event and receive a 20% discount! Christmas in july! Anything that is going to be sewn, should be stitched only to the edge of the painted area. The finisher will sew exactly along this line. If you stitch more, they need to turn it in which could result in lumpy seams. If you are framing your piece, you need to stitch two additional rows on all sides of the piece. The lip of the frame or edge of the mat will cover two rows of needlepoint. 20% OFF Ornament sale Let’s have a sale! What can we stitch and complete in time for the holiday finishing deadline? Ornaments of course! August 14th - 19th all IN-STOCK ornament canvases will be 20% OFF! Buy one, buy many. The choice is yours. Please note: Not all of the ornaments shown on the website are in-stock. Call or email with the name of the canvas and the designer so that we can check stock for you. (Sorry, we can not hold any canvases until the sale.) The sale does not include ornament club purchases. WWW.BEDECKEDANDBEADAZZLED.COM 1520 York Road, Lutherville, MD 21093 • 410.296.0405 Mystery classes how do these mystery classes work? garden party mod heart collage I know, it’s confusing. What exactly is a mystery class? A mystery class is just like a mystery in a book; it unfolds in chapters. With each chapter more of the mystery (how are we going to stitch this canvas) is revealed? We meet pretty much every other Sunday afternoon (unless the classroom is booked with another teacher) and review the twists, turns and fun of the current lesson. Class is from 1 to 3 pm. Can’t join us in person? No problem, we will ship to you. The instructions have full color photos of the canvas stitched to date along with complete instructions and diagrams. We’ve been having a great time at the Garden Party. We’ve had 3 classes and the 4 areas behind the center heart are coming together nicely. This means the center heart is up next. We’ll get to that in class on August 12th. This is the second year we’ve done an EyeCandy canvas for our summer mystery. I just love stitching these canvases; the colors pop, the threads are easy and the stitching goes quick. Well, once you get used to compensating the stitches go quick. :-) I also post lots of pictures on my blog www.NotYourGrandmother’s Needlepoint.com the Sunday evening after class. And so that you don’t feel left out missing the in class shenanigans we set up a online stitching group at www.stitcherie.com. There is a discussion for each class! WWW.BEDECKEDANDBEADAZZLED.COM Want to join the party? It’s not too late to join us. Give us a call and we’ll send you everything you need to get you caught up. Canvas, stitch guide(s), threads etc. From that point on, you will be in the queue and we’ll send your future lessons as we have class. 1520 York Road, Lutherville, MD 21093 • 410.296.0405 What’s the next mystery? Broom parking! Can’t you just imagine the fun we will have with this canvas? Classes are September 23rd, October 7 and 21, and November 11. The cost for the class is the cost of the canvas $180 plus $15 per lesson and the price of the threads, beads, crystals etc for that lesson. Canvas design area is 9.75 x 14 handpainted on 18ct mono. You will need 15 x 18 stretcher bars. looking for something with a slower pace? Row of Ladies by Lee We also offer Mystery With a Twist projects. These work just like the regular Mystery Classes except you don’t really know when the next lesson is coming. I fit these in between the regular mysteries. At first I thought the lessons would be at 4-6 week intervals. They are really about 3 months apart. We have had 3 lessons for this mystery with #4 to ship very soon. There are no in-person lessons. Everyone is an outpatient for this class. The cost for the class is the cost of the canvas $110 plus $15 per lesson and the price of the threads, beads, crystals etc for that lesson. WWW.BEDECKEDANDBEADAZZLED.COM 1520 York Road, Lutherville, MD 21093 • 410.296.0405 Stitches of the month why this works Imagine you have a heart divided into 4 sections. Each section is a pretty decent size. Now, imagine there are several of these hearts and this is only a portion of the canvas you are stitching. That’s exactly the challenge in Garden Party Heart Mod Collage. There’s a lot more going on here than meets the eye. We could do each section of the heart in a different stitch, and in this example, we did but to avoid creating a texture that is overly busy we selected stitches that are all related. Each of the four stitches is the same scale and shares a like component. The 2 x 2 Cross Stitch. All the Cross Stitches connect allowing your eye to move seamlessly from one section to the next. Sister Stitches - Wow, it’s only the second issue of the newsletter and I’m already giving you four stitches in one! All four stitches shown at right are related. Each of the stitches begins with a grid that is two canvas threads by two canvas threads. Each of the stitches has a Cross Stitch that is two canvas threads by two canvas threads as an important and repetitious part of the design. Begin with a grid of Cross Stitches in every other spot and then fill in with Mosaic Stitches or Upright Crosses. For a completely different look, spread out the Cross Stitches keeping the same proportion of a two by two grid and then mix up what’s in between combo Upright Crosses and Straight Stitches or French Knots and Straight Stitches. 2 4,10 1 3 5 8 6 11 7 9 12 Alternating Mosaic and Cross Stitch 2 6 8 7 5 4 3 1 St. George and St. Andrews Cross 5 4 6 3 2 1 It’s the best of all worlds. You get the variety you want in your stitches but your canvas remains calm and inviting. All the stitches are variations of one another. They are related! The combinations are endless. Start doodling on graph paper and see what you can develop. Replace one component with another but always maintain the same grid and the same size of Cross Stitches. What else will fit? Smyrna Crosses? Rice Stitches? When stitching keep your thread weights similar when moving from one sitch to the next for a seamless appearance.
