GETTING TO COIMBRA
Coimbra is one hour from the Francisco Sá Carneiro
International Airport in Porto and two hours from the
Portela International Airport in Lisbon. Although the
Lisbon Airport is farther than the Oporto one,
Lisbon’s is probably the easiest option with better
transport solutions to reach Coimbra.
FROM LISBON AIRPORT…
From Portela International Airport take the taxi to
Gare do Oriente (The taxi should cost around 10€).
Arriving at Gare do Oriente, please find your way to
the train station, on the
top floor.
There are trains from
Lisbon to Coimbra
every two hours. For
the timetables please go
to: www.cp.pt and
choose the English
version of the website (Departing from: LisboaOriente and arriving at Coimbra-b). It usually takes
around 2h to get to Coimbra by train. NB: there are
several types of trains in Portugal, the better and faster
ones are the ones called “Intercidades” (Intercity - IC)
and the “Alfa Pendular” (the fastest one - AP).

trains from Lisbon to Coimbra on
weekends. However, please visit
the website (www.cp.pt) before
departing as these timetables are
constantly changing without
prior notice.
When arriving at the train station Coimbra-B you will have two options:
a) there is a train (on your left) to take you into downtown (called Coimbra-A
station) and there you can take a taxi to go to the hotel/conference venue.
b) you can simply catch a taxi in Coimbra-B and go to your hotel/conference venue.
FROM OPORTO AIRPORT…
The Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport is a bit far from the city centre/train
station. From there you have two choices:
a) you can catch a taxi to the train station (Campanhã), but that is an expensive
option;
b) you can take the subway (violet line) from the airport to the train station (it takes
around 30min) and it is quite cheaper than the taxi.

around 1h to get to Coimbra by train. NB: there are several types of trains in Portugal;

The Tryp Coimbra is located on a hillside in Coimbra, 100 metres from the famous
Coimbra University Hospital. A 15 minute walk from the University which was built in
1292, and with easy access to the historical heart of the city. The University has an
agreement with this hotel, and the corporate rates are:

**Double room with buffet breakfast: €77 per night
This is the hotel with the best price/quality ratio, however it is the less convenient to
reach the conference facilities. The best is to take a taxi.

Largo da Portagem and Santa Clara Bridge. A short walk

Well localized in Coimbra, because being this unit in the city, it is possible to conciliate
a good ambient of calmness and comfort to the access facilities to get to the centre of
the city. Situated in a turnaround of the bridge Rainha Santa Isabel, permits that in 2 to
5 minutes by car you get to the commercial Coimbra, passing only through the bridge.
In the same period of time by the bridge more to the south – bridge of Santa Clarayou’ll get to the historical part. Closer, right next to it, is the “Portugal dos Pequenitos”,
the cloister of Santa Clara-a-Velha and a little bit higher the cloister of Santa Clara-aNova.

Quinta das Lágrima, more than just a charming hotel is
located near "Portugal dos Pequeninos", and Santa Clara
Convent nearly 3 miles from Highway Lisboa-Porto (Coimbra
Sul exit), less then half a mile from the center of Coimbra and
located in a park with 10 hectares.
• VENUE
The conference will take place at Auditorium from the Faculty of Sciences and
Technologies, University of Coimbra (FCTUC). FCTUC is located in the new
University campus, called Pólo II.

• HOW TO GET TO FCTUC?
By Bus
There are two buses that come to the FCTUC: bus
34 and bus 38 (On the top of the bus you can read
the sign: “POLO II – UNIVERSIDADE).
Main bus 34 stops are in Praça da Republica or in
the older part of the University, near Medicine
Faculty.
Bus 38 stops in the downtown, very close to the IBIS hotel and the Largo da Portagem,
near the Bridge Rainha Santa Isabel.

The quickest and easiest way to get to the ISR-UC is by taxi.
