A Message from Ed and Rosa: Guachochi Update We have just returned from our main trip to Guachochi, the central town of the Sierra Tarahumara Mountains. We are opening up an extension of Lily 2 in this mountain community. Guachochi is ideally located to reach out to the needy children of the Tarahumara Indian Tribe. The Tarahumara Indians, although Mexican citizens, are a group of people that face incredible racism, discrimination and mistreatment at the hands of their fellow Mexicans. Also because of the high percentage of alcoholism, lack of food, no rain, no harvests, children are born with severe malnutrition, sickness and isolation. They are a three day walk from the nearest medical clinic. Not only this, incestuous relationships between father and older daughters are very common. Also, it is not uncommon for parents to abandon their children for days at a time while they travel to another village and participate in drunken tribal festivals. If the children are fortunate, the children are able to obtain food in the absence of their parents. But, many children are not so fortunate. Many babies are literally thrown into the river by a teenage mother who is desperate, already having three or four children that she cannot feed. Many children are also abandoned by their parents who search for a dream life (like the American Dream) in the city of Chihuahua, only to find themselves bitterly disappointed; sleeping in the streets and having to beg for food and money. We have already received thirty of these precious Indian children. Our hearts are burdened to receive even more. We are unable to receive more of these Indian children because our current location is so far away from the mountains; and the Lord is leading us to build an extension in the mountains themselves. We have been blessed with two pieces of property. One, we are remodeling as a rental property, with the goal of opening our extension in September. The government has donated a fabulous piece of land on which we are going to build our permanent home. Our goal is to rent for one year, and then move into the completed permanent home. People are starting to donate, finances and clothing. We are building twenty bunk beds. It will cost $350 American dollars to build one bunk bed; this will include only a mattress. It is also necessary to fully furnish the renovated rental building; everything is needed from the paint for the walls, to the silverware in the kitchen. We have had tile donated by a company in Chihuahua City. We are even receiving miraculous help from the Mexican Mennonite community. Would you please pray and ask the Lord what He would have you do to help these beautiful children. Please make sure, in order to receive a tax deductible donation, to write checks to: Lily of the Valley Orphanage, Chihuahua; and in the memo you should write: contribution to Guachochi. We are designating a separate account for Guachochi. It is our prayer that you will capture the heart of God for all the needy children and to be God’s extended hands. Through your prayers and financial support you will send us forth to rescue these children from their hellish circumstances. Thank you for all your help, Ed & Rosa Salo General Administrators How can you support us? If you feel lead by the Lord to support this ministry, donations can be made to our San DIego office, marked Lirio Chihuahua. Thank you! Lily of the Valley Orphanages P.O.
