1 A 1953 Vincent Firefly All Weather Cycle
Motor, registration number SAE 12. This rare
cycle motor has only had two owners in 60 years.
It was originally registered to Mrs Diana-May
Garland of Bristol, who retained ownership until
November of the same year, when the current
vendor purchased it. The vendor used the cycle
motor for a very short time, before removing it
from the bicycle frame and storing it in the attic,
where it remained until being removed for auction.
Offered for sale, with a letter from Vincent
Engineers (Stevenage) Ltd, dated 9 February 1954,
a sales brochure, The Motorcycle road test report,
a Miller Lampset hand bill, an instruction booklet
for fitting and maintenance of the Firefly and an
RF60 and continuation logbook See illustration 2 A 1970s Puch Newport moped, one lady owner
from new.
Fingal, as this well travelled
£200 - 300
diminutive moped is affectionately known, has
travelled 4,025 miles from new. But unlike most
similar mopeds, its 4,000 odd miles have not been
travelled to and from work by a commuter or to
school by a student. No! Fingal has clocked up
his miles travelling the world with his lady
journalist owner.
There are photocopies of
newspaper articles (including the New York
Times) of Fingal's exploits from Connecticut and
California in America, a tour of Corsica, England,
Scotland and France. Fingal now awaits a new
owner to continue his adventures.

accompanying paperwork See illustration £200 400
3 A 2012 Atipong Motor Company Super Skylab
Tuk Tuk, unregistered, red. The Tuk Tuk offered
for auction was a special order vehicle made for a
Bristol vehicle hire company. It comes fresh to
the market, unregistered and is effectively a new
vehicle. Manufactured in Thailand it is based on
North Thailand's everyday vehicles which are built
to carry everything from people to cattle. This
particular Tuk Tuk was made with front facing
seats and is believed to be one of only two with
this seating arrangement, the other being in Spain.
The manufacturing build sheet states that it is
powered by a 150 cc four stroke engine and has a
five forward gears plus reverse gearbox. The
vendor informs us that to comply with British
legislation the seatbelts will need changing to lap
type and the handbrake will require some
alteration. The Tuk Tuk is offered for auction
with manufacturer's build sheets and import duty
papers showing that all VAT and import duties
have been paid See illustration Note: This vehicle
is subject to VAT on the hammer price. £1000 2000

and a must for any serious motorcycle collection.
She is presented still in the protective shipping
grease and has never been fired up. The vendor
informs us that there hasn't even been any petrol in
the tank. Offered for auction with the original
purchase receipt from Meredon for £1635.53,
including purchase tax, warranty agreement and
the vehicle registration application form.

After decommissioning the
motorcycle was sold for civilian use. In the early
1990s the motorcycle was discovered by a serving
Cumbrian police officer in a lockup garage in
Manchester. It was subsequently fully restored to
its former glory and has been used as a show bike
ever since. The vendor describes the motorcycle

1959 and 1964. The Arrow featured a 247 cc two
stroke twin port engine, which produced 20 bhp
and was capable of 75 mph when new. This Arrow
has been sympathetically restored, and the vendor
describes it as in very nice order and running very
well. There is a good history file with numerous
old receipts, expired tax discs, MOTs and SORNs.
Having formed part of a small collection of Ariel
motorcycles, this Arrow is now only for sale to

the engine, frame, paint and bodywork. He further

new headlights, chrome trim, tyres, badges, and
overhauling the braking system with new calipers
etc. Accompanying the car is a full BMW service
history. The vendor describes the BMW as a
flying machine which sounds wonderful and goes
like a rocket. V5C, MOT to September 2014,

47 A 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Sportline
cabriolet, registration number TBA, tourmaline
green. The E320 cabriolet is quite a rare Mercedes
model as originally only 557 examples were
imported into the UK, and not all of those were to
the top of the range Sportline specification. They
offer stylish full four seat convertible motoring
and were manufactured at a time in Mercedes
history when quality and engineering were at their
highest. This three owner example is presented in
tourmaline green with a full tan leather interior
and has a black mohair hood. The vendor informs
us that there is a full service history accompanying
the car which confirms the recorded mileage of
118,000 miles. He further advises us that he has
only driven the car approximately 2,000 miles in
the last year and new tyres have recently been
fitted. As Sportline cabriolets are hard to find now,
take this opportunity to grasp a 90s Mercedes top
of the range model whilst you still can. V5C,

48 A 1984 Ford Sierra XR4i, registration number
B22 MLW, silver. A rare sight on British roads the
XRi was only built for two years and are gaining
popularity all of the time. This particular example
has a stamped Ford service history up to 90,000
miles and has recently had a full service by a Ford
specialist. The vendor informs us that the car has
had four owners and is an original accident free
car which requires only a slight repair to the
driver's seat bolster. He also advises us that it is
great fun and drives superbly. V5C, MOT to

from the same family) has been maintained to a
high standard. The coachwork has recently been
repainted due to the lacquer losing its lustre. The
vendor describes the Porsche as being very
straight with original trim and is running
beautifully having recently been fully serviced.
The vendor also informs us that this 89,000 mile
928S is complete with all four original Porsche

British racing green. The vendor informs us that
this no expense spared unique MX-5 has covered a

1,100 miles since the ground up restoration and
race spec modifications. These included fitting
chrome anti-roll bars hoops, four point safety
harnesses, chrome switches and indicator stalks,
white dials, vented headlight cover for the
induction system, stainless steel grille, twin sports
exhausts, 15 inch alloy wheels, racing tyres,
vented and grooved brake discs, chrome server lid
and much more. All the work was carried out by
AFR Tuning in Guildford by Johnny Morgan. The
engine specification was modified and uprated
with a Cosworth Turbo with custom fabricated
induction kit, fully ported and balanced engine,
uprated oil pump, uprated water pump and
housing, uprated bottom end bearing to crankshaft,
skimmed head and uprated gaskets, uprated
cambelt and tensioners, hand fabricated innercooler and stainless steel pipes, uprated HT leads,
hand fabricated induction kit, light and flywheel,
uprated clutch, two into four manifold, fully
programmed ECU, uprated fuel pump, and rolling

54 A 1974 Hillman Avenger DL automatic saloon,
registration number SPW 816N, orange blossom,
one recorded keeper and only 2,500 miles from
new. This time warp condition Hillman Avenger
was supplied by Thompson's of Dereman to the
only registered keeper a Mr EJ Richardson of
Swaffham, Norfolk on 26th July 1974. The car is
badged as a DL model, but is in fact a limited
edition Sunseeker version, finished in a most
distinctive '70s colour of orange blossom, which
complements the excellent black ambla interior.
Accompanying the car is the original supplying
dealer's wallet, containing the service record book
with a single stamp for the 1000 mile service,
original owner's handbook, an Endrust auto-truck
rustproofing guarantee, past MOTs and the RF60.
Cars like this are now becoming harder and harder
to find in unmolested original condition and this
Avenger would certainly be a great addition to any
Chrysler/Rootes group collection. RF60, MOT to

55 A 1960 Austin Seven Mini saloon, registration
number 868 FOD, grey. One of motoring's icons,
the Sir Alec Issigonis designed Mini, debuted at
the 1959 Motor Show to universal acclaim. This
early Mini has been in the current ownership since
1982. It has been the subject of a sympathetic
restoration which was completed by the vendor in
2009. We are informed that the body received two
new front wings and a driver's door skin and the
Mini was fully resprayed in grey with a white roof.
The interior is original apart from new carpets, and
the engine and running gear are original to the car,
with the latter only needing servicing and
detailing. The vendor believes that the recorded
mileage of just under 44,000 miles could be
correct, due to the lengthy period of inactivity
(1982 - 2009) but unfortunately there is
insufficient history to substantiate this. Offered
for auction with past MOTs and sundry
paperwork, this delightful Mini now restored to its
former glory awaits an appreciative new owner.

56 A 1962 Morris Mini-Minor 850 Deluxe,
registration number 7727 MU, cherry red, one
lady owner and only 40,000 miles from new.
7727 MU was purchased new by the one and only
registered keeper, Mrs Marie Josephine Morris
(very apt) in 1962. As a young, newly qualified
teacher Mrs Morris would walk past the garage on
her way to work and admire 7727 MU where she
was displayed. On receiving her first pay packet
Mrs Morris made a down payment and became the
new proud owner. Mrs Morris would use the Mini
until 1976 (last tax disc displayed) whereupon the
car would remain in garage storage. Presented in
wonderful original and unmolested condition with
matching numbers, the interior still retains the
dealer supplied clear plastic protective seat covers.
7727 MU is offered for auction with MOTs from
1967 to 1976, period insurance documents, a tax
disc from 1965 and the original RF60 log book.
This time warp example of Sir Alec Issigonis'
iconic Mini is now ripe for sympathetic restoration
and would form part of any important collection.

engine of 6,750 cc, driving through a GM three
speed gearbox. In 1977 the Silver Shadow II
arrived with rack and pinion steering and a
modified front suspension which further improved
the handling of the large luxurious car and the
federal style rubber bumpers were incorporated
into the design. This Silver Shadow II is finished
in the attractive colour combination of metallic
gold with a cream leather interior. The vendor
informs us that it has recently had the all important
brakes overhauled and is running and driving well.

64 A 1980 Mini Clubman estate, registration
number GAM 938W, black. From the last year of
production this Clubman estate was in storage
from 1990 until a comprehensive rebuild was
carried out by the vendor during 2013. We are
advised by the vendor that during the restoration
the body required new floors, sills, a new fuel
tank, exhaust, rear subframe, wheel cylinders and
brake shoes, tyres and a full respray. The vendor
believes that the recorded mileage of 26,000 miles
could be correct due to the length of time the Mini
was in storage, but unfortunately there is not
sufficient paperwork to substantiate this. A rare
classic estate, fresh from a thorough restoration
now awaits a new enthusiastic owner. V5C, MOT

71 A 1958 MG Magnette ZB sports saloon,
registration number WRU 103, maroon and cream,
one family owned and 50,000 miles from new.
This restoration project ZB has been with the same
family from new, purchased by the vendor's
mother from Knotts Brothers of Charminster,
Dorset in 1958. The MG would remain in use until
it was put into storage approximately 20 years ago.
We are informed that the last time the MG was
started was approximately eight years ago. The
MG appears sound but very dirty with numerous
surface rust marks and flat paint. The brown
leather interior appears intact and should respond
well to a thorough clean and feed. A worthwhile
restoration project which should appeal to the MG
enthusiast looking for an original low mileage
example of an increasingly popular model to
restore to its former glory. V5 x 2, MOT and tax

73 A 1968 left hand drive Ford Cortina Mk II
1600E Series 1 four door saloon, registration
number HBL 922G, saluki bronze. This left hand
drive Ford Cortina Mk II 1600E Series 1 was
originally brought into the UK from Spain in the
1980s when it was registered to a Mr Jesus
Manuel Gonzales. It was subsequently sold to a
Mr Rich Coles who set about a complete nut and
bolt restoration which took twelve months. During
the restoration some panels were replaces,
including both front wings, both rear arches, the
bonnet, front balance and one headlamp panel.
The car was then repainted in its original colour of
saluki bronze and the light tan interior was cleaned
and refitted, apart from the carpets and headlining
which were replaced with new items. The chrome
work was replaced with new old stock parts, the
original engine was replaced with a fully rebuilt
engine, the gearbox and rear axle were stripped
down and fully restored. The vendor feels that this
car is a beautifully presented example of a highly

75 EXTRA LOT: A 1924 Riley 11/40 12hp
Sports-4 Seater Tourer, registration number DS
9184, blue over black. The vendor informs us that
some 40 years ago this vehicle was discovered by
Mr Bernie Jacobson, (a well known and avid
vintage car collector) in the rear of a rural garage apparently the car had been taken there for some
mechanical repair. Bluebelle, as she had become
known, was then sent to Coachcraft, a renowned
vintage car restorer. A new body was hand crafted
in aluminium to match the original. The original
engine, gearbox, chassis, back axle and running
gear were all restored at the same time along with
a full re-trim in leather and a new soft top. The
estimated cost of the restoration was between
£80,000-100,000. This outstanding Riley with
great providence is finished in dark blue with
black wings and soft top, complemented by a
powder blue leather trim, four speed manual
gearbox and wire wheels (both optional when

78 A 1971 left hand drive Jaguar E-Type Series III
2+2 coupé, unregistered, opalescent silver grey,
believed 68,000 miles from new. In 1966 Jaguar
added a new member to the iconic E-Type range
of roadsters and coupés, in the form of the 2+2
coupé, intended to extend the E-Type's appeal
beyond the sports car market. The nine inch
longer wheelbase coupé with its higher roofline,
increased glass area (giving better visibility),
added luggage space and occasional rear seats,
was aimed firmly at the sporting gentleman with a
young family to transport. From 1968 all three
versions of the E-Type underwent major
modification to comply with US safety legislation.
From 1970 the Series III Jaguar was introduced in
2+2 coupé form and roadster configurations,
incorporating the mighty V12 5.2 litre engine.
These would continue in production until the final
100 models rolled off the production line in
distinctive black coachwork in 1975.
This
California black plate automatic coupé had two
previous owners in the sunshine state residing in
Palm Springs and Beverly Hills. The vendor
purchased the Jaguar from the second owner and
imported the car in 2012 and all import duties
have been paid. Since the E-Type returned to
these shores, the car has undergone a programme
of recommissioning, this has included rechroming
the brightwork at a cost of approximately £1,500,
thoroughly cleaning and feeding the black leather
interior and servicing the engine and running gear.
The vendor describes the car as very original and
extremely rust free. Handsomely finished in a
fetching shade of metallic grey, this left hand drive
E-Type would be a great European mile eater once
it has been registered by the new lucky owner.

77 A 1969 Mercedes-Benz 220/8 saloon,
registration number NFX 689H, beige. This two
owner Mercedes was purchased from the original
owner, who was the general manager of Barclay's
Bank Bulawayo, by the current and second owner
in 1976 from the deceased's estate. The car was
registered on 4th August 1969 in Rhodesia with
the registration number RBD 5644, later changed
to 258266 when the records were computerised
(original logbook on file). The car remained in
Zimbabwe (as Rhodesia became known) with the
current owner until December 1984 when the
Mercedes was exported to the UK. It was then
registered with the current registration number and
has remained in the vendor's possession ever since.
Over the years works have been carried out as
necessary to maintain the Mercedes in a good
roadworthy condition. These have included a
major engine overhaul in March 1995 (recorded
mileage 150,770) when the engine was rebored,
new valves and pistons were fitted, and the air
conditioning compressor, radiator and sump guard
were removed to save weight (but are available if
the next owner wishes to reinstate them). In 1999 a
body renovation and respray were carried out and
the underbody was cleaned and resealed (recorded
mileage 167,250), the current recorded mileage
now being 179,724 miles. There is a vast history
file accompanying the car with original service
booklet and handbook, Mercedes Gazette
magazines, a Haynes manual, numerous
maintenance receipts, original chassis and body,
spares manual, the original Rhodesia logbook and
previous MOTs. V5C, MOT to December 2014, 79 A 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC, registration

Hillman is now awaiting a new sympathetic owner
to preserve her and she would make a superb
exhibit at the Dad's Army camp at the Goodwood
Revival. RF60, V5C, MOT and tax exempt See

81 A 1951 Riley RMB, registration number LXH
289, green over cream. The Riley RMB came to
the market in 1946, a year after the launch of the
RMA and featured the 2.5 litre Big Four engine
with twin SU carburettors, this endowed the
elegant sport saloon with an acclaimed top speed
of 95 mph when new. This particular RMB has
been maintained to a high standard and comes
from a deceased estate. The body is finished in a
most attractive colour combination of British
racing green with old English white flanks and a
black vinyl roof. The interior has nicely preserved
green leather seats and door cards, recently
replaced green carpets, and a wonderful Art Deco
dashboard. The history file contains receipts for
general maintenance and upkeep, including a bill
from Auto-Interiors for interior repair for £3100, a
run of old MOTs, a Riley RM Club dating
certificate, RM Centre Ltd spares lists, RM
Owner's Club magazines and an owner's
instruction book. This well presented and capable
sport saloon now awaits a new caring owner. V5C,

82 A 1937 Hillman Minx Magnificent De Luxe,
registration number COY 958, sea green. The
Hillman Minx acquired the name Magnificent in
1936 when the body had a restyle with a more
rounded body shape. The chassis was stiffened and
the engine moved forward to allow more
passenger room. There were two saloon models
offered in the range, the basic safety model with
Rexine trim, non-opening quarter lights and less
luxurious trim, or the De Luxe version with leather
trim, opening quarter lights and more luxurious
fittings. This De Luxe version was first registered
in London on 11th May 1937. She is presented in
wonderful oily rag condition with weathered sea
green coachwork and a marvellously original
green leather interior. Having formed part of a
private collection in recent times, prior to that the
Minx was in a long term ownership from
approximately 1974. The vendor informs us that
the little Minx is running and driving very well
and indeed the car started very readily on our
inspection. Accompanying the Hillman are two
MOTs from 1962 and 1963, an expired tax disc
83 A 1975 pre-production Rover SD1 structural
integrity test bed car, registration number JYF
227N, chassis number 5, engine number 9,
believed to be the oldest known SD1, richelieu
red. JYF 227N is a rather special car, as it is the
oldest known Special Division (SD1) Rover to
have survived. During 1974 the car was used as a
structural integrity test vehicle. This involved
testing the structure and interior fittings for any
weaknesses prior to signing off the design for
production. The car remained in the Rover fleet
until 1977 when it was destined to be written off,
but fortunately it was purchased by a Rover
employee who saved it from the crusher. Little is
known of its history from 1977 until 1990 when it
was discovered by Mark Dixon, a motoring
journalist, who persuaded Practical Classics to
purchase it as a project car and offer it as a
competition prize. Unfortunately the prize winner
didn't wish to take on the project and received an
equivalent cash prize. Mark subsequently
purchased the car from Practical Classics and kept
the Rover until 1997 when SD1 club chairman Bill
Draper became the owner and took up the massive
challenge of restoring the car to its former glory.
The restoration was completed by June 1999 and a
small celebration took place where Jeoff Purkis,
David Bache's number two attached the final nut
(securing the steering wheel), and photographs
were taken which appeared on the front cover of
the
SD1
Club's
magazine

November/December 1999 (copy on file). The
next custodian, another SD1 club member, Steve
Williams, acquired the Rover in 2007. Steve was
of the opinion that the Rover would benefit from a
freshening up, so the second restoration took
place. During the restoration the car was fully
resprayed, new old stock Series I passenger and
driver's doors were fitted, new seats, alloy wheels
and power assisted steering rack, were fitted, the
electrical system was overhauled with new starter
motor, alternator, distributor and HT leads. The
front suspension was rebuilt, the brakes were
overhauled with new calipers and rear drum shoes
and other numerous items were replaced to create
a show standard car. The Rover has formed part of
a small West Country car collection in recent
times and has had very sparing use, only attending
local classic car shows. Accompanying the car is a
history file containing a photograph album of the
restoration completed by Bill Draper, a copy of
CAR November 1975, where it is featured on the
front cover, a copy of SD1 owner's club magazine
Rover where it features in an article and on the
front cover, maintenance receipts and old MOTs.
Still presented in show condition, this piece of
British automotive history offers an excellent
opportunity for the next owner to obtain a unique
car which would be a fantastic addition to any
museum or private collection. V5C, MOT to April
2014, taxed See illustrations £7000 - 9000
84 A 1959 AEC Routemaster RM180 double
decker bus, registration number XVS 830, red.
The iconic London red bus is synonymous with
London's mean streets and is instantly
recognisable anywhere in the world. RM180 was
built in 1959 and was registered and went into
service at the Loughton depot in February 1960. It
would remain in service until October 2005 seeing
its final journeys in Reading and Edgware. Since
2006 RM180 has been the jewel in the crown of a
Bristol promotional vehicle hire firm. She has
been very popular with stag, hen and prom nights
and has been a star of film and TV, appearing in
the opening credits of the Antiques Roadshow
(2010), and a Cliff Richards/Blakey comedy. The
bus is maintained to PSV standards on a twelve
week inspection (as agreed by VOSA due to low
annual mileage), and RM180 will remain in
operation until 1st February 2014. The bus was
fitted with an uprated Marshall 7.5 litre engine in
2001, together with an Allison gearbox. Further
improvements include an infrared beam which
informs the driver of anyone standing on the stairs
when the bus is in motion, a 14 kW diesel heater
on the lower deck which was installed at a cost of
£4000. Recent maintenance over and above the
usual maintenance schedule has included renewing
the prop shaft bearings, the differential has had
new planet gears and bearings and the rear hubs
have been stripped with new seals fitted, at a cost
of £5500. RM180 now offers an excellent business
opportunity to the next owner. MOT and tax
exempt See illustration Note: This vehicle is
subject to VAT on the hammer price. £25000 28000
85 WITHDRAWN: A 1933 Alvis Firefly Twelve
SA 11.9 Cross & Ellis drop head coupé,
registration number VJ 4913, black and maroon.
86 A 1923 Maxwell 25 five seat open tourer,
registration number SV 8015, blue over black.
This charming right hand drive American vintage
tourer has been in the current ownership since
1995. During this time it would appear that the car
saw a limited use. The Maxwell has obviously
been well cared for and would appear to have been
restored to a good standard at some point. The car
is finished in light blue with black wings and
radiator surround. The interior is finished in black
leather with a black mohair hood and hood cover,
but unfortunately there are not any side screens.
The Maxwell will require recommissioning after a
period of approximately ten years of inactivity
(last tax disc displayed April 2003), but when the
car was moved for the auction, none of the brakes
were binding, she moved freely and the engine
turned over on the starting handle. This large and
imposing vintage tourer offers the next owner a
straightforward project, and once recommissioned
would be a great alternative to a far more
expensive British marque. V5C, MOT and tax
exempt See front cover and other illustrations
