SAVE THE DATE Who: PAST – PRESENT - FUTURE YOUTH CHOIR/CHILDREN’S CHOIR MEMBERS What: YOUTH/CHILDREN’S CHOIR REUNION MASS & PARISH PICNIC When: SEPTEMBER 18TH, 11 AM MASS Where: ST. EULALIA CHURCH Why: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the parish JULY 3, 2016 A FAMILY PILGRIMAGE As we approach the summer months and plan our summer activities we could consider a “family pilgrimage.” Pilgrimage has been a tradition of our Church since its earliest days. Some of our own parishioners recently went on pilgrimage to Spain. Our youth are embarking on an imaginary pilgrimage in our LARP program. We can enjoy this experience without traveling too far, as there are many suitable destinations within Massachusetts. What is a pilgrimage? A pilgrimage was a journey to a place, often a shrine or church, considered to be sacred or holy to people of faith. Historically people went on a pilgrimage as a religious experience. There were many specific reasons including spiritual rewards, acts of penance, proof of devotion. Others went to seek the intercession of particular saints for cures of the sick, or intercession for the souls of the departed. In modern times our families can enjoy the experience of visiting one of the many special shrines, and taking advantage of their offerings without an arduous journey. For example the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Holliston has a beautiful walking rosary garden and grotto. It is a wonderful place to pray, reflect and enjoy the quiet outdoors. The following sites are all within an easy drive from Arlington/Winchester, and can easily be visited in a short time. Each has a website listing their events and offerings; making it easy to plan your visit. La Salette Shrine, Attleboro Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, Holliston Saint Joseph’s Abbey, Spencer Saint Anne Shrine, Sturbridge Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica and Shrine, Boston National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, Stockbridge Where ever your summer travels take you, consider taking some time to enjoy the experience of a family pilgrimage. If you plan on doing any clearing out of your attic, basement or closets this summer and find clothing from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s that you are willing to donate we would be so grateful! ST.
