August 15 - HMF EXPRESS
4 Volume IX Issue 8 August 15, 2014 Leadership by example Anticipate site issues... “Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing.” — Albert Schweitzer Lead by example A leader can shape his followers best by showing them the way forward rather than telling them about it. To show your team how important customer service is, make sure that they can see you going the extra mile. If they can see that you are committed, they are more likely to follow your example. At HMF Express? Leaders at HMF Express show up on time, work when needed, & communicate early, often, and clearly when they need help. You don’t need to be perfect, just show through your actions that you intend to be the best. To paraphrase Gandhi: if you want to make a change, be the best example of that change and others will follow. Sometimes our customers depend on us to help their customer succeed. And, sometimes that means helping them avoid problems at a job site. As the saying goes, “[Stuff] happens.” A good example: Brandon Grant recently visited a jobsite for a door issue and noticed some of our frames (see picture). They were on top of a container and spread across the ground. Once our products hit the jobsite, material gets lost and we get blamed. To: Mark From: Wes I just wanted to give our Chi-town guys a big thank you from our customer. He just got that welded transom frame and he said it is perfect! He told me the ORD guys did a hell of a job for him; his customer gets to install this earlier than anticipated; and his boss was thoroughly impressed with the quality and speed at which we delivered. Supervisor’s corner ... Jungle Rapids day After conducting reviews with each of you, I am impressed that most of you are very concerned about safety, quality and productivity. That is a very good thing. We have come a long ways, but we have to keep changing in order to stay competitive in today`s market. The number one thing we have to do is meet our daily goals and service level. Watch for these posted on the board outside the break room and in front of the powder coat paint line in Wilmington. Also we have to reduce the number of purple folders. When we see a purple folder, it means we made a big mistake. Remember, when you see the purple folder, find out why you are re-making the part and make sure that the mistake does not reoccur. To increase our daily production, the best way is to make each piece just one time. The more the daily piece count, the more points we can open to make room for our customers. We all are on the right path. Just keep the focus on the above and all of our lives will be so much easier !!
