Message from the Principal
Parents & Caregivers,
Many thanks to those of you who have offered to help out at the Science Fieldtrips. We cannot go
ahead with these types of experiences without your support.
Every year I bring up our concerns about road safety around the school at the end of the school day.
Please obey the road rules when parking and collecting student’s as it would be terrible to have a
student hurt. Staff members are particularly conscious of the need for safety and may approach you
to remind you of the rules. They are doing this in the interests of safety and we would ask parents to
comply with the requests. The police will be down randomly checking on this as well.
I would just like to put in a timely reminder that it is important for us at school to know when family
circumstances changes as it helps us with understanding what our students are going through. It
allows us to adjust their learning needs in light of other needs that they have. Please contact the
classroom teacher or the office if there is information we need to know about your child.
Our school charter has been received by the Ministry of Education and in it are our targets for the
year. Although they are very specific as is required by the ministry we are still focussed in improving
student achievement for all students.

SPORTS NOTICES
CRICKET
Both the 1st XI and 2nd XI Cricket teams are unbeaten after 3 games. All players
are training hard and it shows in their performances. The 2nd XI have had good wins over Taradale, Tamatea and
Hereworth. There have been some stand out performances from William Kanthavong and Bruce Grace but the wins are a
credit to the whole team. Our 1st XI have had their wins against Havelock, Taradale 2nd XI and Taradale 1st XI. In our first
Active Post National Knock Out match of the season we had a great win over Taradale Intermediate. We lost the toss and
were put into bat. Toby Findlay opened the batting and gave us the start we wanted and retired on 50 off 55 balls in the
14th over with the score on 82/2. Baylee Foote (34) and James Rawnsley (16) continued the charge and had a 50 run
partnership and we finished with 149/7 off our 25 overs. With a great score on the board we knew by restricting wides
and no balls we'd have a great chance to win and apart from the occasional bad ball we bowled Taradale out for 126 in
the 23rd over. Baylee was again brilliant with the ball with 2 for 14 and runouts to Cate Pedersen and Luke Barber were
also important, but it was Player of the Day, Toby Findlay who really destroyed Taradale with 4 for 23. We now look
forward to taking on Hereworth in the 2nd round of the National Knock Out.
VOLLEYBALL -
The Napier Intermediate Volleyball team has started off the season strongly. So far, they
have won all their games and continue to build as a strong supportive team. Well done to all players.
ART DECO CRICKET MATCH
On Wednesday 25th February five Napier Intermediate School students,
Cate Pedersen, Toby Findlay, Baylee Foote, James Rawnsley and Ryan
Jones were invited to Clifton Reserve to play a cricket game against
Hastings. This Art Deco cricket match was an event where 3,000 people
came to watch past Blackcaps and cricket legends play in a game. The
reason why we went was that our game was a curtain raiser, it was a
20/20 match and we won! This was a great result for the team, with
Toby Findlay getting 30 runs and Baylee Foote finishing the game off
with 21 runs. It was an amazing experience having over 1,500 people
watching us. The venue was amazing, there were helicopters landing on
the hills and buggies driving up them. In the main game there were
players such as Mark Greatbatch, Dion Nash, Mathew Sinclair and the
man that was every adult’s favourite player, Martin Crow.
ZONE IN Home Learning Group
Supporting our youth with their learning.
“Zone In” is an after school support programme designed to be used as a home learning
centre where students can do their homework/home learning tasks. “Zone In” will be held
every Tuesday and Thursday this term. Students will meet in the library when the school bell
rings. All “Zone In“ students will need to be in the library by 3:00. Sandy Grantham, Lou
Z
Taylor and other volunteer teachers will help supervise “Zone In.” “Zone In” hours will be 3:00 to 4:00.
Students attending “Zone In” will need to be present for the whole hour. If home learning tasks are finished
