Yona follows the dramatic life story of legendary Israeli poet Yona Wallach.
A young woman from the countryside, orphaned by her father; making her first steps in
the realm of Hebrew poetry. It's the early sixties and Wallach's battle for recognition
takes place in a male-dominated environment. With her breakthrough and the
inevitable transition to the big city, Yona - constantly testing her own boundaries suffers from a mental breakdown. Her struggle to resume writing and attain
immortality in the canon of Hebrew poetry – the price she was willing to pay for that
immortality – is the film's main plotline.

Konrad Koch is hired to teach English at a strictly-run German school for boys. Koch sees
how badly this is needed in his very first class. Everything that the boys know about
England comes from prejudices handed down from one generation to the next. In order to
stir up some enthusiasm for the foreign language, Konrad Koch resorts to unusual means.
He introduces the boys to a sport, which he encountered while studying at Oxford: it is
called football. Unfortunately, Koch’s unconventional ways soon make him many
enemies: influential parents, local dignitaries and, above all, his colleagues, who only
believe in Prussian drills and discipline. They all want to get rid of Koch - but then his
students decide to take the initiative.

Latin American culture is in many ways similar to Indian culture: these are multi-ethnic societies with
ancient civilizations; with people trying to find how to live and love in modern times, under pressures from
families, religion and their emerging economies. So it is but natural that their films talk about themes that
are contemporary in India, and in many other parts of the world. These are universal stories of youth,
rebellion, isolation and human bonding. And yet, they bring something unique to Cinema: because Latin
America is steeped in a culture where Magic Realism reigns; where political upheavals and crime are a part
of daily life; and yet, this is also a culture that has a passion for colour, music and imagery as if life depended
on it. This heady combination creates a unique kind of cinema that dazzles with passion, and shows the rest
of the world what it is like to live in the twenty-first century.
