Ninth ISE event set
to smash all records
Will attendee numbers exceed 40,000?
By any measure ISE 2012 is the
largest yet. The number of exhibitors
has increased by 15% since last year,
the gross area of floor space occupied at the R AI has increased by
18%, and preregistrations were up
by 21% compared to 2011.
Speaking just before ISE
opened, Integrated Systems Events
managing director Mike Blackman
said that although the final
number of attendees could only be
conjecture, combining the 36,702
preregistrations with a typical onsite registration level of around
4,000 attendees suggested the total
level would exceed 40,000 for the
first time.
“Our industry is defying Europe’s
financial climate,” Blackman ob served. He estimated that ISE 2012
would see more than 1,000 techno logy launches and said he was
proud that ISE was now the calendar
date to which the industry’s R&D
cycle was synchronised.

Integrated Systems Russia expands
Integrated Systems Events and their
Russian partner MidExpo yesterday
announced the expansion of its
tradeshow into a second hall in
Moscow Expocentre for 2012.
Like the existing Pavilion 1, the
new area in Pavilion 5 will be
divided between ISR and its colocated show Hi-Tech Building.
Digital signage will represent the
majority of the ISR component, but
the organisers stress that the event
is increasingly being seen as a single

Covering an Olympic opening ceremony, or similar one-off event, is
a “three-hour block of time where
nothing can go wrong,” audio
designer Scott Willsallen told the
ISE Dynamic Events conference.
“I’m constantly trying to design
redundancy into everything,” said
Gary Hardesty, chief audio designer
for the Beijing opening and closing
ceremonies, adding that this is difficult to achieve within budget,
especially as technology gets more
complicated and “there’s plenty to
go wrong”, he cautioned.
A problem Willsallen sees regularly
is that a mix engineer for broadcast is
typically highly experienced at covering athletics and other sporting events,

Industry STEPs up to
environmental challenge
Installation projects could soon be rated for
environmental impact as part of the new
Sustainability Technology Environment Program launched by InfoComm International
(one of the two partners behind ISE) and
other industry bodies.
“We’ve created a foundation to advance
sustainability efforts in the industry, to help
people use materials efficiently, without

energy consumption,” explained Randal
Lemke, InfoComm CEO and chair of the
STEP Foundation.
Unlike the LEED rating system for buildings, which concentrates on planning, STEP
ratings will look at planning, installation and

operation, to ensure that what is planned
actually happens, and full accreditation isn’t
obtained until the systems are in operation.
To encourage people to adopt STEP,
Lemke points out that sustainability should
mean cost and time savings, as it includes
travelling less (STEP encourages video conferencing). “Unless you’re really saving money,
it’s going to be hard to get everyone
involved,” he said.
InfoComm has already started 10 pilot
projects, mainly in the US, and set up a Randal Lemke, InfoComm CEO

CEDIA educates the masses
At this ISE, CEDIA is delivering a significant
education programme. The trade
association is providing a range of training
and education opportunities, with many
sessions new to the ISE audience.
The organisation reports that delegate
pre-bookings have been more than three
times higher than in 2011.
In total, CEDIA is offering 14 courses,
doubling the number of sessions given at
ISE 2011. The programme contains seven
new courses including ‘Choosing and using
control systems’, ‘Embracing the Cloud’,
‘The art of project documentation’,
‘Practical media delivery over IP
technologies’, ‘Developing profitable
business processes’, ‘Delivering 3D’ and
‘Introduction to HVAC systems’.
After its successful debut in 2011,
another highlight this year is the running of
CEDIA EST2 Certification in English, French
and Spanish. CEDIA education offers a
structured Certification programme,
allowing integrators to meet examination
standards at four industry recognised
levels and describe themselves as a
CEDIA Certified Professional. EST2
(electronic systems technician) is the
baseline technical certification for the
industry. Currently, CEDIA members in the
UK and Ireland must employ at least one

LG Displays
Taking the opportunity afforded by
ISE, LG Displays is showcasing its
range of solutions for public display applications.
With obvious applications in
retail for highlighting products
while delivering information
about them is the C-Thru LCD
panel. Available in sizes from 26in
to 55in, it can be completely trans-
parent or function as a ‘normal’
display – or any combination of
the two.
Making its debut at ISE is the
Super Narrow Bezel 55in multivision public display panel with
FPR 3D. The multi-vision panel is
said to be the world’s thinnest
public display and has a bezel
width of just 5.3mm. LG says that
FPR 3D represents a significant
improvement over shutter glass
(SG) 3D technology with no
flicker, minimal cross talk and a
brighter screen. Also, FPR glasses
are made with curved lenses, like
regular glasses, so are claimed to
be much lighter, cheaper and
healthier than SG glasses.
Also highlighted on the LG Displays stand are the company’s offerings for outdoor deployment,
including one that delivers 2000
nits of brightness for readability
even in direct sunlight. LG says that
its LCD panels employ a proprietary
liquid crystal structure technology
that enables the screen to continue
showing images even when the surface temperature of the panel rises
to 110°C: conventional LCD panels
begin to turn black when surface
temperatures exceed 75°C.

But none of this is true. If we can
learn to embrace them, standards
can be a very good thing.”
InfoComm is increasingly
active in standards development,
and has published three ANSIrecognised standards since 2008,
These cover audio coverage
uniformity; AV system design; and
projected contrast ratio.

the opening ceremony, a completely
different type of production.
For the London Games this summer, Willsallen said he intends to avoid
this by putting a dedicated sound mixer
in for the opening and closing ceremonies. When it comes to broadcasters,
he told delegates: “Wherever possible I
recommend you take control of it and
don’t let them cause more problems.”
“Despite sending a perfect mix
downstream, [broadcasters] can still
mess it up,” added Chris Kennedy,
founder Norwest Productions, especially when dealing with a 5.1 mix.
“We don’t have control over what

broadcasters do with it,” agreed Hardesty, who mentioned phase problems
that NBC had with one event he
worked on, which is why “we need
more control of the broadcast”.
“But, there is nothing we can do to
control it, if presenters want to talk over
the beautiful bits,” added Kennedy.
the Education Zone. Blackman
revealed that pre-registrations to
CEDIA’s programme were considerably increased.
“We decided to extend ISE to
be more of an event, not just an
exhibition,” said Blackman. “We
feel our landscape changing as AV
vendors move more and more
into IT.” He cited the new Unified
Communications area in Hall 12,
the opening of a second residential solutions area and the biggest
digital signage section to date as
examples of the way that ISE was
continuing to evolve in order to
meet the needs of the AV industry.
“The future belongs to system
integration,” Blackman affirmed.

These claims are reinforced by
the statistics, which show that
9898 attendees came to ISR and
Hi-Tech Building in 2011 – compared to 8154 the previous year.
This increase is believed to be a
reflection of a dynamic local mark e t a n d a n ew ve n u e t h a t h as

MediorNet Compact cuts cost
Projecta
QSC brings Core to customers
QSC
New for ISE from QSC are the Q-Sys
Core 500i and Q-Sys Core 250i which
are described by the company as the
most powerful and accessible audio
networking solutions ever developed.
“Historically, QSC has been
dominant in major projects with
significant networking demands,”
said David Fuller, the company’s
director of technical marketing
(pictured). “What these new products do is to allow us to serve a
whole new market – the middle of
the pyramid, if you like – and bring
our expertise to new customers.”
The Core500i is capable of handling up to 128 network channels while
the Core 250i provides up to 64 channels. I/O is selectable via the various
Q-Sys I/O cards. Options also include
the MTP-64 and MTP-128 multitrack
players which, according to Fuller,
makes them unique in the market.
Also available is a CobraNet interface which, said Fuller, makes it possible for customers to integrate legacy
systems. In terms of networking, QSC
is actively promoting its Q-LAN capability. “The big advantage of Q-LAN
over alternatives such as AVB is that it
is a Layer-3 technology and uses
industry standard protocols ,” said
Fuller. Stand: 3A84
BlueCore lights the way
BenQ
The new BlueCore next generation
light engine from BenQ uses a laser
light source, which is said to achieve
much greater energy efficiency,
improved projection performance
and instant start-up.
The short-throw BenQ LX60ST
and LW61ST are the first education
projectors to incorporate BlueCore.
The mercury-free light source is more
environmentally friendly, and can
dim the light source power by up to
90% to achieve a contrast ratio as
high as 80000:1. It should also
deliver 20000 hours of reliable performance, with no sudden decrease
in brightness, plus nearly three times
the lifetime of a mercury lamp.

The Elpro and Descender product
ranges by Projecta have been
expanded and are being presented in
two new screen widths: 320cm and
340cm. Until now, both product lines
have been limited to 300cm widths;
however, in a bid to offer a more
complete motorised screen range,
Projecta has made these screen
sizes available to its Tensioned
Descender (RF) Electrol; Descender
(RF) Electrol; Pre-Installation Box;
Tensioned Elpro (RF) Electrol;

Riedel Communications
MediorNet Compact is the new, cost
effective, easy-to-use entry into
Riedel Communications’ MediorNet
world of integrated media signal distribution and processing.
It provides the flexibility of a true
realtime media network, including
integrated signal processing, at the
cost of simple multiplexing pointto-point products. Its 50Gbps system
has enough capacity for bi-directional transport of 12 HD-SDI signals,
dozens of MADI streams or Gigabit
Ethernet signals and hundreds of
audio channels or intercom ports.
The 3RU MediorNet Compact
provides connectivity for up to 12
3G/HD/SD-SDI signals, four AES
ports and two MADI interfaces as well
as four analogue audio I/Os with
high-quality microphone preamps
and a dynamic range of 117dB.
It also has an interface for
Riedel’s RockNet digital audio network, two DisplayPort outputs,
three Gigabit Ethernet ports,
connections for serial data and
GPIs, and one sync input plus
three sync outputs.

New for retail digital signage
ComQi
delayMirror is a new product from
ComQi designed to complement
retail digital signage. According to
the company, it is a ‘video mirror’
that provides a continual delayed
video feed which enables shoppers
to see themselves as they were three
seconds ago, allowing customers to
twirl and see the clothes they are
wearing from all angles in a dressing
room. In addition to being a great
way of trying on new clothes, says
ComQi, it is also a fun in-store experience that shoppers cannot get
online or via any other medium.
“delayMirror is an interactive
solution powered by ComQi’s
EnGage platform,” said Max StevensGuille, ComQi’s chief technical officer. “When you look at yourself in
the delayMirror it is almost as if you
were looking at someone else – a digital doppelganger. They look like you,
dress like you – but they are doing
what you did a few moments ago.
delayMirror provides a magical experience for shoppers.”

Dawn of a new Era
Audience response systems join PCs and mobile telephones in
the creativity driven world of apps
F
or 20 years, audience
response systems have
been dominated by a
handful of hardware
manufacturers, often protected by
patents and in many cases with a
closed architecture that limited
the creation of independent,
cost-effective software applications.
Today, however, third-party
audience response applications
are flourishing.
This is because the likes of
iPod Touch, iPad and Androidbased phones/tablets can be
turned into wireless interactive
audience response tools. While
these devices have limitations –
due to the need to use open wi-fi
networks, bandwidth and a
tendency to distract – they are
influencing the drive toward apps
across the whole audience
response spectrum.
For the foreseeable future, at
least, there will be a need for hardware. However, as more and more
software applications are crosspollinated between hardware platforms, the importance of specific
hardware diminishes. The time
has already come for the audience
response systems based on consumer keypads.
Users are becoming more
adept, not just with the
technology but also with the
whole concept of audience
interaction. The industry is seeing
a seismic shift from a hardware
led decision making process to
one almost wholly based on
software driven applications.
turn results in an expectation that
solutions providers give informed
advice, and do not simply supply
systems off-the-shelf. Focusing on
the continuous development of
customer/market needs is now
more critical than ever to maintain
competitive differentiation and
sustainable growth.
In order to meet these needs,
Infowhyse set up Keypad Depot as
“The audience response
industry is seeing a
seismic shift…”
As has befallen many industries before, the audience response
sector has come of age and is
undergoing a metamorphosis
from a niche industry, led by the
West, to a commoditised industry,
led by an explosion of apps coupled with cost-effective hardware
from the East.
In this new era of audience
response applications, customers
are becoming more experienced
and more knowledgeable. This in
a dedicated division, which – in
addition to its own brands – has
forged alliances with several
hardware manufacturers and software developers. By combining
off-the-shelf and customised
solutions to meet every customer’s
requirements, Keypad Depot has
shaped what is believed to be the
world’s first comprehensive
audience response applications
and solutions portfolio.

We ask: Why does ISE continue to flourish when other industry
shows are growing in single figures or flat-lining?
ISE is one of
those events
where you feel
that you could
be missing out
on something
by not being
there – as both exhibitor and
attendee. I remember my first
show in Switzerland, particularly as
I was held by Swiss customs for
five hours without the correct
paperwork. I knew this show was
destined to fail unless there was a
radical re-think about location and
strategy. The rest is history as the
show has gone from strength to
strength ever since. The annual
‘kick off’ to the AV year is now a
regular in the diary with same old
faces and new faces coming
together for the largest ‘networkfest’ of the year.
Jeremy Stewart, sales &
marketing director, TeamMate
ISE continues to flourish because
of good timing, great location and
best choice of a winning theme.
Even more importantly is the focus
of the show: bringing
together manufacturers,
distributors, integrators, installers,
specifiers and
technology
managers, all
of them in one
place
discussing the
latest and
greatest in the
professional
AV and
systems integration world is a
winning ticket. Kramer Electronics
chooses again and again to be part
of a winning show.
Ezra Ozer, marketing manager,
Kramer Electronics
ISE has delivered for us year-onyear thanks to its high degree of
focus and relevance to our installed
sound business – it attracts exactly
the right demographic for us..The
three-day
format of the
show is well
balanced,
and the
combination of
timing (first
show of the
calendar year)
and location
adds to its effectiveness as a key
launch platform for new product
technologies aimed squarely at the
integration/installed sound sector.
The cross-over between audio and
visual is logical in that many of our
immediate sales channels and
end-users operate in both of those
technology fields – so the show
delivers a higher proportion of new
contacts for us than usual. This
isn’t always the case with other
expos where the technology focus
can be diverse with narrower
fields of relevance to any given
visitor – we see limited cross-over
between a touring focus and that
of installed AV for example, so it’s
harder to get maximum efficiency
from a show that centres around
both combined. Not so at ISE – it’s
an indispensable part of our
international show plans. Andrzej Sosna, managing
director, Tannoy
ISE has managed to mix a
‘detonating cocktail’ made up of:
great international location; easy to
reach venue; and a professional
team, whether
for stand build
up or
organising the
event as a
whole. The
great success
also comes
from the
quality of the
courses, which bring people from
different fields in this fast-moving
electronics and systems world. ISE
is Inspiration and Education for
professionals.
Cedric Aubriot, CEO and
founder, Waterfall
I believe that
ISE provides a
more rounded
offering than
other industry
shows, and as
such attracts a
broader range
of visitors. ISE
also provides a world-class
exhibition for European visitors,
where previously travel to the US
was required. This is additionally
advantageous in the current
economic climate.
Adam Neale,
director, 7thSense Design
We always meet new potential
customers at ISE – which is unlike
most of the other trade shows we
exhibit at – where we meet distributors and established customers.
Both are extremely valid but new
customers are the Holy Grail.

Locker gains LED allure
Martin Professional
Athletic footwear giant Foot Locker
has installed an eye-catching LED
display in the main window of its
flagship store in Milan. The store
opened last June and has a
dynamic front window display
comprising 39 Martin Professional
EC-20 LED panels.
“I was at Euroshop earlier in the
year together with the client, who
saw the EC-20 panels at the Martin
stand,” explained designer James
Breaks, associate director of
rpa:group’s design division. “Foot
Locker wanted the potential to create something startling and bold.
They were looking to stand out and
make a massive impression. The
EC-20 display was just what they
were looking for.”
Although the store is in a
prime-site location, it is in a parade
of units that sit back from the
street, under the shadow of the historic architecture of the main
building, which increased the need
for a high-impact presentation.
“We wanted to use performance
technology from concerts – power
and light – in a retail setting to create interest and appeal to the
energy of youth, and it works
well,” said Breaks. With 4,000 nits
of brightness, 48-bit colour processing, excellent image quality,
and the ability to show any type of
digital image, the semi-transparent
EC-20 indoor/outdoor screens are
increasingly being used to integrate

The Clarity Matrix 3D extends
the Matrix LCD video wall family,
using the same design approach to
give an install depth of only
93mm, integrated mounting system, and off-board electronics and
power supply.
The Matrix narrow bezel LCD’s
technology is combined with a 3D
optical system and passive glass
that, when tiled together, enable
viewing and analysis of 3D images
across the entire video wall. This
approach to 3D visualisation,
according to Planar, provides a
more comfortable viewing experience versus active glasses solutions.
O t h e r b e n e f i t s t o p ass i ve
glasses, says the company, include
lighter weight, no batteries are
required, and they are less expensive than active solutions. The
design also incorporates off-board
power supply and electronic components which reduces the weight,
heat load, noise, depth and points
of failure at the LCD video wall,
extending the lifetime and reducing the cost of ownership.
The Clarity Matrix 3D uses
micro-polarising optics on the
surface of the LCD to provide constant 3D visualisation to each eye.
This is done by polarising the light
from each horizontal row of pixels
matching the polarisation of the
left and right eye in passive 3D
glasses.
The left eye only sees every
other horizontal row of pixels, the
right eye sees the remaining rows
of pixels and the brain combines
each eye’s view to create a single
high-resolution image.

We ask: What are the hottest trends in digital signage
at the moment?
The hottest
trends we at
Innes observe
include IPTV,
with its ability
to deliver
multiple live
content channels to any display,
and digital signage video walls
which allow the display of one
large image for maximum impact
or to display content on separate
screens.
We are also seeing the
emergence of biometric
recognition of consumers,
allowing the identification of
customers according to their age,
gender and so on and to offer
them the right products.
Cloud-based digital signage is
also a real trend, allowing digital
signage to be offered as a Web
service. SaaS has emerged as a
popular solution because it is
reliable and cost-efficient and can
be deployed rapidly.

Oval lamp LED displays used to be
the only choice for outdoor
applications, but that it is no
longer the case. SMD front- and
rear-access LED panels are the
hottest trend in the market. They
are not only weatherproof, but
also can provide much better
viewing angles without colour

Audio has been a hot trend in
digital signage projects recently.
Traditionally, the difficulty of
handling audio
in a noisy
space has
prevented
digital signage
projects from
installing any
kind of audiorelated
content.
However, with the development of
directional audio, audio content is
starting to be used as a strong
asset in digital signage projects.
For example, Panphonics Sound
Shower speakers are installed in
all 7-Eleven stores in the USA
and Canada. This is the world’s
largest digital signage project.
The effective use of audio content
is seen as a strong asset in this
project and the trend is expected
to continue in the
future for many
other projects.

“Integrators need to

Ian McMurray
detects a disparity between
signage technology and the
users’ ability to harness it
Oliver Schwede
Looking for all the signs
Signage will be used

marketing solution,
not just standalone
system
A
t ISE a year ago, more
than one analyst used
the term ‘tipping point’
to describe the state of
the digital signage market: in
other words, it had reached a
state where some significant shift
would take place.
One of those analysts was
Oliver Schwede of Invidis
Consulting, the company behind
the DiSCO Digital Signage
Conference at ISE. “Yes, that
prediction proved to be true,” he
says. “Digital communication at
the point of sale or the point of
information has become integral
to the communication process.”
Richard Topping, digital signage
product manager at UK integrator
Saville, isn’t so sure, saying: “I
don’t think the market has yet
reached that tipping point.”
Even less convinced is Roland
Dreesden, managing director of
integrator Reflex. “Certainly,
manufacturers are extending and
amending their product range and
new entrants are entering the
market,” he says. “However, I feel
the development of systems and
the take up by users is out of sync.
“I would estimate that one in
five digital signage solutions
installed have either a static
display or a screen that’s not used
post-install,” Dreesden claims. “I
also know there’s confusion out
there. With the range of systems
on the market it’s difficult for the
end-user and, frankly, the
integrator to choose.”
Where Schwede and Dreesden
are in agreement, however, is in
the belief that for digital signage
to succeed, it needs to be driven
by an organisation’s marketing
department.
“On customer sites, we can see
that the marketing people are really
looking into digital signage now,”
notes Schwede. “But there is still a
know-how deficit, and people tend
to discuss technical details rather
than creating concepts.”
Dreesden sees the same
influence. “I would suggest that
the conventional AV integrator
normally speaks to the AV or IT
Signage needs to
be based on
concepts
Pic courtesy Martin Professional
department,” he says, “where in
truth they need to speak also with
the marketing team, the
custodians of company branding.”
It is certainly the case that
major brands are increasingly
leveraging social media, and
Saville’s Topping sees an
opportunity there. “The use of
social media as a signage
application and tool has been the
development I have noticed in the
past 12 months,” he says. “The
social media side of signage will
continue to develop and will take
a hold of most manufacturers’
ways of thinking and of the
products that are coming to
market. Signage will be used as
part of an overall information and
marketing solution, not just
standalone system.”
Dreesden has noted the
growing pervasiveness of Cloudbased digital signage, with its
promise of lower cost and greater
security, while Schwede has seen
increasing consolidation in the
industry together with a trend
towards suppliers becoming service
providers – both of which he
argues are positive for the industry.
But can growth in the digital
signage market be sustained in the
face of an economic climate that
is, at best, uncertain? Topping has
seen some impact on larger scale
programmes, while Dreesden
notes that budget pressures have
so far had little impact on Reflex’s
digital signage business.
Schwede is cautiously
optimistic. “2010 and 2011 have
been very successful for the
industry,” he says, “with some
integrators managing to double
their revenues. The economic
situation will, though, see some
slowing of growth in 2012.
Marketing programmes are likely
to be affected – but where digital
signage can be shown to have a
clear RoI, we expect the impact to
be much less.”

Vox Pop
We ask: Many manufacturers
have jumped on the app
bandwagon, but what should
be the ultimate destination? In Kramer
Electronics’
eyes, the
ultimate
destination of
the Pro AV
industry is to reach a true solution in
which full interoperability between
any application and every system is
made possible. It is Kramer
Electronics belief that an Open
System approach is what the
installers are looking for.
Kramer has reached a strategic
decision to open up relevant parts of
its control products protocol and
followed this decision. Kramer’s
customers can easily integrate
much like an IT-centric world.
Should AV integrators be concerned?
“It’s natural for some AV players to think they need to look
over their shoulder apprehensively for IT players who might
take away their market,” says
Greg Jeffreys, newly elected president of InfoComm, “but we
should never underestimate the
difficulties – and costs – for others to enter new market spaces. I
believe there are opportunities in
partnerships, plus new and recurring revenue streams.”
It becomes apparent that, to
succeed in this new, converged
world, integrators need to acquire
two new sets of skills. The first of
these is, unsurprisingly, an understanding of the network.
“Saville recognised from an
early point that specialist network
skills were going to play a big part
in the skill set we would require
to support the developing videoconferencing market,” says the
company’s southern region business manager, Darren Pitt. “This
has continued to increase as the
protocols for source distribution
and products such as Crestron
Digital Media become standard
deployed systems.”
And, sometimes, as Jeffreys
points out, integrators need to be
able to prove that they have those
skills. “The IT world is one of certifications, and we see many more
AV leaders sporting impressive
lists of Microsoft, Cisco and other
certification,” he says.
Those things are important to
IT managers – and being able to
respond to their needs gives rise
to the second, and perhaps less
obvious, set of skills that are
required.
“You need to understand the
dynamics and drivers of IT networking people,” notes Roland
Dreesden, managing director of
integrator Reflex. “Quite rightly,
they are protective of their network
as it is the engine of their business – so the ability to empathise,
understand and communicate in
their terms is very important.”
There is perhaps a third set of
skills that integrators need to
acquire as projects become more
complex – and it’s something
that InfoComm is aware of.
Sometimes, IT is simply more appropriate for the scale of the task
“Larger, more sophisticated projects have given rise to the need
for both hard and soft project
management and communication skills,” says Jeffreys, “and
InfoComm has a history of pioneering superb project management courses.”
It seems that, for successful
companies who might traditionally have called themselves AV
integrators, the growing significance of IT is far from a threat.
Ever since the beginning of the AV
industry, evolution has been part
of the fabric of the market – a
point made by Pitt.
“Saville has seen and adapted
to many changes over the years,”
he says. “If we had not been ready
or able to embrace these chal-
lenges, then we wouldn’t be
where we are now. We see the
incursions of IT as something to
embrace and an opportunity for
us to continue to evolve and
grow.”
Dreesden’s view is almost certainly representative. “Far from
being a threat,” he says, “IT/AV
convergence is definitely an
opportunity for any AV integrator. What could be better than
strengthening your skill set?
Remember, AV is still exciting
and still new to a lot of people
and our industry knows how to
deliver that ‘wow!’ factor. The
fact that AV now sits on networks
and can talk to a wide range of
technologies just makes it even
more exciting.” “The IT world is one of certifications” – Greg Jeffreys

With the rising popularity and
acceptance of cloud computing I
think IP-enabled AV devices should
do the job of an app with just simple
http connection via a shortcut that
looks like an app icon. What apps do
well is they optimise the user
interface for the device they are
running on. For example, if you have
a smart phone with limited screen
area, the font sizes, field lengths, and
screen formatting is optimised for
your device. There is no reason a
smart webpage cannot do that. The
embedded webpage in our HDMI
matrix switch first reads the width
and height of the screen it is being
displayed on and then renders the
page accordingly.

commercial pro-AV applications, I
think they will actually have a
marginal effect. Can you imagine all
visitors at a major museum (age
range one to 100 years) using the
same app? Don’t get me wrong, I
think the interactive features of the
iPhones and iPads, etc, are truly
amazing, and their user interface is

Rough handling during transport or installation in a ceiling that

inner bracket on each side of the
case that, says Draper, allows the
problem to be addressed ‘once and

Licence-free bands Keeping a close watch on the council
for conference use Vaddio
Comm-Tec
The company is showing
Confidea, a new multiband wireless conference
system. Confidea operates
in the 2.4GHz
band as well as in
higher, licencefree bands around
5GHz.
Comm-Tec says this
enables a seamless
deployment of a wireless
conference system in
environments with
dense Wi-Fi presence, and that its
5GHz compatibility in particular means
IT companies will no
longer need to worry
about the impact on their
wireless IT infrastructure.
The manufacturer
claims that the product
has been developed with
reliability and confidentiality in mind, making
use of fault-torrent errorcorrecting protocols and
advanced encryption
algorithms. That, and its
multi-band capability,
makes Confidea the most
robust and secure wireless
connection available on
the market today, according to the developer.
Comm-Tec says the
product raises the bar in
wireless conferencing and
overcomes the limitations
of traditional, Wi-Fibased systems. The manufacturer claims that its
multi-band capability
expands the deployment possibilities
of
wireless
conferencing systems
considerably, and allows
concurrent operation of
multiple systems in the
same building.
Confidea comprises a
full range of models catering for applications: from
basic discussion, to units
with voting or simultaneous interpretation.
The product can work
as a stand-alone system
for basic discussion and
voting.

Video can be broadcast from
the Council Chamber to anywhere

A
ny-to-any across the board
(voice, video, presence,

and progress is less than
speedy. Unified Communications
(UC) has become a buzzword,
which many manufacturers apply to
almost any product concerned with
communication.
Thanks to the ability of voice to
break out onto the PSTN, any-to-any
voice is relatively easy to achieve. But,
video is still some way off,
particularly with Microsoft’s plans
for Lync and Skype still unclear. “Regarding video, we have many

There is also the question of

And with the Apple iPhone

Integrating multiple sources Bridging the conferencing gap
ListenPoint is described by its
manufacturer as a unique collaboration system that brings together
multiple audio sources to put anyone in the room right in the centre
of the sound.
The company says that ListenPoint provides high-quality audio
from virtually any device to group
meeting participants, and can
bring audio from mobile devices
such as tablets or smart phones
using the wireless media interface.
The ListenPoint range of products includes two versions of a control unit, a room module, a
microphone/media interface, and
optional speakers in ceiling or wall
mount format.
The C2 ListenPoint control unit
is the heart of a standard system
and features a single control for
adjusting volume and selecting
audio sources. The unit connects to
the room module using a Cat-5e
cable. Extensive customisation of
the system is said to be possible
through a password-protected front
panel or USB port. The unit can be
wall, desk or rack mounted.
The C6 ListenPoint control unit
is said to be an ideal unit for
audiovisual integration as it
accommodates teleconferencing
devices. Like the C2, it connects to
the room module using a single
Cat-5e cable. It includes pro audio
inputs/outputs, a direct teleconferencing/Skype/VOIP port and USB.

The manufacturer is showing
Bridge, its HD-quality solution for
multiparty video conferencing.
LifeSize says Bridge offers a lowrisk, cost-effective platform to extend HD
video conferencing to
more people across an
organisation, with the
lowest TCO.
Bridge is designed
to provide HD video
collaboration that scales
with an organisation’s needs,
providing quality at a low price
point for multi-party communications, and accommodating up to
48 participants on a single call.
Interoperable and standardsbased, Bridge is said to be easy to
set up and easy to use. It also supports any codec, frame rate, call
speed or resolution without loss of
capacity or capability.
The manufacturer claims that
it offers 1080p30,
720p60, and
720p30 at the
lowest cost perport in the industry. It has support
for scheduled
and/or on-demand HD
video calls, with direct conference
dialling, outbound dialling and a
virtual operator; and the product
also supports video devices from
LifeSize and other vendors.

New widescreen touchpanels
AMX
The manufacturer is demonstrating
the capabilities of its new Modero
X Series. The AMX Modero X Series
is a family of frameless, panoramic
and widescreen touchpanels,
which the manufacturer says offers
an intuitive user experience and a
truly ergonomic design.
The Modero X Series is said to
redefine touchpanel technology by
giving users a new control surface
on which to perform multiple
activities, all at the same time. AMX
says the series combines edge-2edge glass and a low profile, to
deliver a more usable space and
more engaging user experience.
Also on show are AMX’s ICSLan
Device Control Boxes, which
enable the control of almost any
device including AV, HVAC, lighting and blinds using IR, RS-232,
I/O or relays.
With embedded Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality, AMX says
these units simplify installation and
function as port expanders for a
master controller, requiring only a
single category cable connection for
control and power.
Also on display are the new
flush-mountable six-module, ninemodule and 12-module additions
to the HydraPort Connection Port
series. These units can connect and
control laptops, projectors, document cameras, DVD players, audio
equipment and other support
devices.
Completely configurable, they
allow installers to easily adjust
the modules to the specific AV
and power needs of any room
environment.

Yamaha in France
An elaborate new entertainment
complex encompassing two concert
halls, a lobby bar, two studios and
information/multimedia resources
has opened its doors in Besançon,
eastern France.
Audio system designer ATES Thise
has made extensive use of Yamaha
technology for the new facility,
which is called La Rodia.
For the larger, 900-capacity hall,
ATES selected a Yamaha PM5D at
FOH and an M7CL48-ES for
monitors. Six pairs of AD8HR head
amp/AD convertors, an NAI48-ES
EtherSound interface and SB168ES stage boxes make for a flexible
and high-quality system.
The smaller hall has a capacity of
320 and features an M7CL48-ES
console for both FOH and monitors,
with further SB168-ES stage boxes.
Both halls feature Nexo PS15
monitors, while the studios each
feature an 02R96VCM mixing
console.
Managed by an Auvitran AVM500ES controller, an EtherSound star
topology network connects all of the
spaces in La Rodia.

HD Progressive 1.1 Perf material,
an extension of its line of HD

The material is an acoustically
transparent front-projection fabric
that allows speakers to be placed
directly behind the screen. Da-Lite
claims in using this material, the
user experiences “virtually no
sound loss and excellent image
quality”. The fabric is said to provide
the same optical characteristics as
the HD Progressive 1.1 screen

We ask: If you could change
one thing about the industry,
what would it be?
InfoComm has
an ambition to
become much
more
recognised as
professional
across the genders and I’d like to
see more women employed and
represented. If I look at my other
professional friends who are
lawyers and architects, I would
characterise those professions as
being well represented in gender.
Greg Jeffreys, president,
InfoComm International
In the ‘selling’
sector I would
challenge our
sales people
to look beyond
a transactional
sale approach
and consider
a consultative
sales approach. The easiest thing
we can do is to simply take an
order of what a customer is
requesting. Often clients are not
asking for new technology
because they simply are unaware.
Instead of just giving them what
they ask for we have an
opportunity to build trust and
credibility by probing and truly
understanding what their needs
are and then delivering a
recommendation that best meets
their needs.
Cory Schaeffer, vice-president
of sales worldwide, Listen

news
If I could
change one
thing in our
beloved
industry it
would be that
the production
is ordered first
and the
technology
second (not vice versa, as we see
all too often). Don’t get me wrong,
as a manufacturer, Dataton loves
to sell products in huge quantities.
But in the long term, great
productions benefit the whole
industry, spurring people on to
create even more exciting projects
and generating more business for
everyone. I would like to see
projects starting out in the hands
of good producers, designers and
AV consultants and then making
their way to the suppliers –
manufacturers, staging – and
installation companies.
Fredrik Svahnberg,
international marketing &
communications manager,
Dataton

Jon Sidwick, director,

We would like to change the poor
understanding of the importance of
audio. In recent years, audio
information has been proven to be
as influential as visual information.
Digital signage is not very effective
when installed without audio.
However, the whole industry is still
placing too much emphasis on
delivering only visual content. As
visual
information is
literally ‘visible’,
the influence
can also be
easily
investigated
afterwards. It is
extremely
challenging to
investigate the effectiveness of
audio content in digital signage
projects. However, a growing
amount of data to support the
effectiveness of audio are
becoming available. Panphonics
expects that the current poor
understanding of the importance of
audio will be a story of the past in
the near future.
Ryo Kumagai, sales manager,
Panphonics
There are many
things that I’d
like to change
but one of these
is to see an
increased level
of
understanding
of what the
industry
communicates to the end-user. It is
a very specification-oriented
industry and should be more
tailored towards what the end-user
wants to achieve with their AV
investment.
Anders Løkke, marketing
director, projectiondesign
I would like to change this trend
towards everything audio being
hidden! Many times projects have
been designed
by designers
and the
installer is
afraid to show
the customer
something
different, but
why hide
products in walls when there are
some superb and performing
options available, like glass
speakers? There should be some
training initiated and organised by
ISE for designers and installers
with manufacturers who actually
have something different to offer,
so we could promote new ideas.
We would be happy to support this
idea and be actively involved.
Cedric Aubriot, CEO and
founder, Waterfall
I would like to
say goodbye to
the phrase “...
because that’s
what we’ve
always done”.
More than any
other industry, I
believe the AV
industry suffers from being slow to
adopt new methods, approaches
and technologies. Revolabs has
been experiencing this inertia since
2006, when we introduced the first
digital wireless microphone system
specifically designed for the
enterprise. Yes, it was different; and
yes, it didn’t look like anything else
people had used in previous
projects. Through hard work and
perseverance, we were able to
convince the industry of the value
that ‘hearing every word’ brings to
enterprise customers. Now in our
sixth year, Revolabs has an
expansive product portfolio. Be
willing to try something new,
because that’s what you can expect
from Revolabs!

Planar Systems
Jennifer Davis, VP marketing
What does the ISE
show mean to
you?
ISE has grown in
importance for
Planar, as a way to
connect to our
European pro AV
commercial partners
and home theatre partners who represent our
Runco brand. Both Planar and
ISE are emphasising digital signage and this year we’re excited to
unveil many exciting display innovations not only for digital signage
but also display solutions designed
for control rooms.
What do you think are the key
developments in, or threats to,
your market sector at the
current time?
Planar provides solutions in a
variety of vertical markets,
including retail, hospitality,
education, transportation and
corporate environments. As digital
signage growth expands and as
more companies are capitalising
on the power of
digital signage as
an advertising
platform and
effective means
for information
dissemination
and providing an
enhanced
customer
experience, Planar is
architecting display solutions
that meet the requirements of
these applications.
Why should delegates visit
your booth at ISE?
At ISE you can see Planar
showcase a diverse portfolio of
new products, differentiated
solutions for indoor and outdoor
digital signage, and new product
categories, like architectural video
walls with the launch of Planar
Mosaic. Planar will also unveil the
new Clarity Matrix 3D video wall
system, Clarity LED Series rearprojection displays and Indisys 2.0
image processing.

All MIL-STD 810G testing has now
been completed, and the standard
3RR case features a 2in deep front
lid, 5in deep rear lid with wheels, lid
hangars, a slide out inner rack,
PRV, coupling straps, stainless steel
hardware, and eight comfort grip
spring-loaded handles.
Although standard stock cases will
come in black, they will also be
available in desert tan and OD
green on special order.

Four new switchers for
studio professionals
Gefen
Devised to access multiple computers from a single high-resolution
display, four new switchers on display on the Gefen stand are suitable for studio professionals
working with several editing bays
and post-production suites. In
essence, these new switchers supply effective methods of computer system integration without
networking.
The 4x1 DisplayPort KVM
switcher connects four computers
to one display with support for a
USB 2.0 keyboard/mouse and
audio. One DisplayPort output
delivers resolutions up to
2560x1600. The USB output drives
any keyboard/mouse combination,
while the audio output supports
left and right speakers.
Users switch between all four
computers by IR remote, front
panel selector button or RS-232
connection.
The 8x1 DisplayPort KVM
switcher (pictured above) connects
eight computers to one display
with support for a USB 2.0 keyboard/mouse and audio. One DisplayPort output delivers
resolutions up to 2560x1600. The
USB output drives any keyboard/mouse combination while
the audio output supports L/R
speakers. Once again, users switch
between all four computers by IR
remote, front panel selector button
or RS-232 connection.
The other two new products
are the 4x1 DisplayPort switcher
and the larger 8x1 DisplayPort
switcher. These are video switchers with no keyboard/mouse and
audio switching.

Q&A
Cloud control
Cloud Electronics has added two
new models to its PM range of zone
paging microphones. The PM4-SA
and PM8-SA have all the functions
of the existing PM4 and PM8, but
introduce ‘spot announcement’
capabilities, giving users access to
pre-recorded announcements.
Typically, the spot announcements
contain adverts, stings, alarm
sounds, or even warnings, activated
by the push of a button or fired by
remote contact closure switches
from a timer, PIR or similar device.
The microphones can hold up to
four (PM4-SA) or eight (PM8-SA)
pre-recorded messages of any
length. These are stored internally
on a standard SD memory card in
the base of the unit. Up to four or
eight pre-announcement chimes
can also be stored on the card,
respectively.

The EYE-LCD-6000-QHD-LD with
Direct-LED backlight is the latest
addition to eyevis’ EYE-LCD of highresolution LCD monitors. The new
launch provides quad full HD resolution with 3840x2160 pixels on a
60in screen. The Direct-LED backlight technology is said to guarantee
uniform image representation over
the entire screen surface. The spec
includes a brightness level of
500cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 5,000:1
and a response of only 6ms. The
screen is controlled via four DVI
inputs, with a specially developed
input controller. Applications for the
EYE-LCD-6000-QHD-LD include
control rooms, medical facilities,
broadcast post-production, and
construction.

Apantac, Michel Rudelle,
EMEA regional manager
What does the ISE show mean
to you?
With its growing number of visitors,
ISE is a unique opportunity for
Apantac to reach a large customer
base from EMEA as well as other
regions. It is also a great venue to
meet with our dealers and introduce them to our latest products.
Our goal this year is to show products in an application context,
which we feel, is better way of
illustrating their capabilities.
What do you think are the key
developments in, or threats to,
your market sector at the current time?
It seems that the pro AV market is
doing well despite the current economic turmoil in Europe. We see
opportunities in providing innova-
Barix gets Extreamer
tive products and solutions to the
market by addressing specific
needs. For example, we will exhibit
a solution that combines a multiviewer accepting DVI, VGA, HDMI
(with HDCP management) and
more inputs and a software-based
KVM switch.
Why should delegates visit your
stand at ISE?
We are showing our range of
Tahoma DE Hybrid and Tahoma
DL Universal multiviewers that
support both computer and
broadcast inputs for viewing on a
single screen. The Tahoma multiviewers will be demonstrated
with the Cynergy KVM switch, our
new software option that lets
users control all computer inputs
on one or multiple Tahoma multi-
viewers with a single mouse and
keyboard.
In addition, we are demonstrating the combined technology of our
Hybrid multiviewer with a Roland
V-1600 video switcher. This solutions provides an all-in-one multiinput, multi-channel, and
multi-format switching/multiimage display solution that is ideal
for live production.
We are also focusing on new
products from our MT HOOD extension solutions line including a new
HDBaseT 100m HDMI extender
over CATx. Stand: 11N67
Mastering AV control remotely
Medialon
The company is presenting CueMaster, its new iPad App, which is
designed to control any AV equipment without the need for PC
programming.
CueMaster is a multi-touch app
that integrates Medialon’s Show
Control with the interface of an
iPad. Users will be able to select a
device and a command, and then
apply it to a button. Several commands can be applied to the same
button if required.
A range of pre-existing
button/slider/display combinations, designed by show operators,
allows users to create an unlimited
number of pages to organise commands and macros. A designated
cue button also allows sequential
execution of cue lists each time it is
hit, and random selection in the
cue list is also possible.
It is connectable via Wi-Fi or
wire, and can control lighting and
audio consoles, audio processors,
video and media servers, lighting
fixtures, and special effects. It pro-
vides two serial ports, one
MIDI in/out, T CP/IP, one
DMX output and four I/Os.
Medialon is also showing
Manager Kiosk software,
designed for interactive kiosk
applications, and to make programming more straightforward. Manager Kiosk allows user
interfaces to be built using buttons, sliders, text displays,
gauges, lists and text-entry fields,
as well as embedded media or
video playback without being a
C++ or Adobe Flash programmer.
Features include a programmable Web browser, controllable
media playback, and using the
Medialon On Network protocol
users can link and synchronise
kiosk applications with other Medialon controllers. Stand: 7P210
The manufacturer is introducing its
new Extreamer 205 to its already
established range of Extreamer IP
audio decoders. Like its
predecessor, the Extreamer 200, the
205 features a built-in 2x25w
amplifier. However, the improved
model includes a line-level stereo
input to connect an audio source,
such as an iPod, directly to the
device.
Barix says this new feature makes
the product ideal for use in zoned
audio systems streaming
background music and other audio
content to multiple points. As a
result, Extreamer 205’s target
markets include department stores,
hotels, clubs, restaurants and
worship facilities. A local audio
source can be plugged into
Extreamer 205 at any time, which
will interrupt the main audio
stream.

Haivision
The manufacturer is showing two
new encoders, one focused on the
re-broadcast of HD video and the
other, a software-based encoder
that delivers live content to multiple
sites. Haivision claims that the
Makito encoder offers the most
efficient and affordable distribution,
capture, and re-broadcast of HD
video. Makito represents the first
and only full-featured highperformance compact encoder to
combine the efficiencies of H.264
video compression and full HD
video quality in a very small form
factor – all at a very competitive
price point – Haivision claims.
Recently upgraded to revision 1.5,
the Makito now supports constant
bit rate (CBR) encoding.

New vServer has Blu-ray
Drop-n-Rip capabilities
VidaBox
The new vServer series of multizone servers from VidaBox includes
a built-in Blu-ray drive and has the
capacity to archive any unencrypted disc with its Drop-n-Rip
and DualRip capabilities.
It then streams stored Blu-ray,
DVD, music, photos, videos and
other digital content to 10 or more
VidaBox extenders losslessly over a
single Ethernet cable. Other media
players like HDI Dune, PopCorn
Hour, TViX and XBMC may also be
added as well, with the server’s
third-party metadata compatibility.
“The vServer is the most
advanced and cost-effective series
of media servers we’ve ever
devised,” said Steven Cheung, president of VidaBox. “With clever
engineering, we’ve been able to
slash costs to 37% less than our
current generation of servers, while
maintaining the same great features like Drop-n-Rip, DualRip,
and optional R AID protection.
When combined with third-party
media players, native Blu-ray and
DVD video distribution has never
been easier or more affordable.”
The systems are available with
2TB of standard storage with the
vServer-200, and 6 or 9TB of
R AID5-protected storage on the
vServer-650 and vServer-950,
respectively. Movie titles are
archived bit-for-bit, losslessly preserving the original quality.
DVDs can be archived into an
MPEG file simultaneously for playback on portable devices. Music
CDs can be stored in two separate
formats with DualRip – such as
MP3, FL AC, WMA lossless and
WAV – for universal playback compatibility.
The vServer series of systems is
shipping and available after ISE for
all VidaBox dealers.

Opportunities
beckon in 2012
The growing aging-in-place market is
primed for upgrades that will make
site management easier and home
life more comfortable
A
t the risk of going out
on a limb, something
I’ve been known to do
from time to time, I
want to state categorically that
2012 will offer CI dealers new
opportunities for growth and
business expansion on a scale
not seen by this industry in
almost three years. A series of specific trends are
coming together at an accelerating
pace that promise to generate new
business opportunities for those
residential and commercial custom
installation dealers who are best
prepared to take advantage of these
converging trends – increasingly
affordable entertainment and
home control, energy
management, and aging in place.
For CI dealers, it’s essential to
partner with a manufacturer or
group of manufacturers that
understand these trends. Being
able to offer affordable home
entertainment and control
systems that include energy
management features allows CI
dealers to bid on big jobs, small
jobs, and more jobs in general. The growing aging-in-place
market is primed for upgrades
that will make site management
easier for the facility operators
and home life more comfortable
for residents. Hungry dealers who
pursue these larger jobs will begin
to find that everyone now
understands the value of these
systems, whether for lighting
control, HVAC control, security,
surveillance or energy
management.
With solutions priced for
every sized home or business,
and builders beginning to
suggest or spec integrated home
systems, home control
technology is ready to take the
main stage and offer CI dealers
what may be their biggest
opportunity ever.
Luckily for us, ISE brings
together all of the industry’s best
manufacturers, many of whom
have recently introduced new
products for both residential and
commercial custom installations.
ISE attendees who want to learn
about the most innovative
brands that are targeting these
markets and are prepared for
these emerging trends should
visit The AVC Group stand.

When large isn’t large enough
Vutec
Sometimes, even large-screen
plasma or LCD isn’t big enough
and the requirement is for a projector and screen. For customers wanting to bring a screen down in front
of the TV, Vutec is announcing the
Reverse Roll front deploy projection screen.
Reverse roll is commonly used
to clear obstructions near the
screen mounting surface and
allows the screen material to roll
off the front of the roller drum.
The new screen is available in
two models: the Lectric I-RR features a self-supported surface,
while the Lectric III-RR uses a tabtensioned surface. Both models
come with features including
Vutec’s EMS mounting system and
FRS (fabric relief step) that eliminates horizontal lines in the fabric.
White or black housing finishes
are available, and screen sizes range
from 72in to 180in (D) in several
formats. Stand: 3D112
Take control of movies
Kaleidescape
A newly launched app allows
Kaleidescape System users to
browse and select movies and
music using an iPad. Available
now, the free app makes it possible to browse without interrupting playback.
Users can filter instantly by
actor, director or genre, as well as
selecting any room to see what’s
being viewed.
“The free Kaleidescape iPad app
is a real game-changer,” said Kris
Hogg, director of Yorkshire, UKbased custom installation company
Konnectiv. “It provides a reliable,
convenient way to access, control
and enjoy the extraordinary features of the Kaleidescape System. As
an example, I can be outside, in the
garden, selecting music. And, if I
like what’s playing, I can easily save
it to play again later.”
Michael Malcolm, founder,
c h a i r m a n a n d C E O o f Ka l e i descape, added: “Our new Kalei-
Primare pre/power
descape-designed iPad app lives
up to our reputation for simple
user interfaces. We’re excited to
be bringing it to the market as
one of an exciting series of new
Kaleidescape developments for

Lower cost multi-zone amp/
controller integrates with g!
Elan Home Systems
The new Elan S1616A 16-channel
multi-zone amplifier/controller
combines the functionality of the
Elan D16 amplifier and S128P
multi-zone controller into one
new component designed to simplify and lower the total cost of a
system installation for dealers and
their clients.
Available for delivery in the US
from this month, the Elan S1616A
is designed to integrate exclusively
with the Elan g! system.
The new amplifier/controller is
available in single- and dualchassis versions, both of which
include high-pass and low-pass
crossovers, RCA inputs, speaker
level and banana plug outputs, and
feature level, bass and treble adjustment for each output channel.
Robert Ridenour, Elan product
manager, commented: “With the
S1616A, we’ve taken our popular
D16 amplifier and upgraded it to
include the multi-zone controller
capabilities previously available in
our S128P controller, giving our
dealers the simplest, most profitable solution for distributing
whole-house audio with the Elan
g! entertainment and control system. The S1616A is a 16-channel
multi-zone amplifier with nearly
unlimited configuration options –
supporting eight stereo or 16
mono inputs and outputs, or any
combination thereof.
“With the ability to use the dual
chassis model as a 16x16 matrix,
this amplifier is perfect for any size
residential installation – from
small homes to mega-mansions,”
Ridenour added.
“And because dealers can stack
up to 15 chassis to provide up to
120 stereo or 240 mono outputs
and it seamlessly integrates with
the Elan C2 Communications
Controller, it is an ideal solution
for any installation that requires
high quality sound and ultimate
flexibility in configuration no
matter how large the project,” he
concluded.

The Scandinavian manufacturer is
showing its new ultra-slim
Pre32/A34.2 pre/power system,
which, it claims, combines highend functionality and as much trueto-life audio dynamism as it could
muster. Primare says the new
Pre32, which is an upgradeable
audiophile pre-amplifier, is
comparable to its I32 integrated
amplifier, yet boasts more power,
lower distortion, and greater audio
separation. The Pre32 was
designed to match the new A34.2
power amplifier, as well as all other
Primare power amplifiers. It shares
the cosmetic design and
functionality of the I32, with a
modular architecture, an OLED
display, and the same user
interface; and also features six
pairs of inputs (two XLR and four
RCA) and three pairs of outputs
(one XLR and two RCA).
The A34.2 has a similar chassis to
the Pre32 and the I32, and is
capable of generating 2 x 150W (8
ohm), bridgeable to 1 x 300W. It also
has switchable RCA and XLR inputs
and matches the I32 for bi-amping.

We ask: What are the hottest trends in residential technology
at the moment?
HDBaseT is as
much of a
game changer
as HDMI was
when it was
launched in
2002. The fact that this standardsbased signal transport system
unites everything an AV system
integrator needs into a single,
low-cost cable is a significant feat.
As a standard, HDBaseT promises
a level of interoperability across
products and brands that hasn’t
been seen since the analogue
days. HDBaseT not only provides
routing, power and control options
for residential installations, but
also reduces the cost of those
options. This in turn makes
complex multiroom AV systems
accessible to those who may have
balked at the high cost of wiring
and accessories needed to
accomplish similar systems
without HDBaseT technology.

Environmental concerns will
undoubtedly take home
technology to the next level and
this is an area where control
systems come into their own. We
can help homeowners make the
most of their installed systems by
giving them a simple, unified,
control and energy management
solution. Power monitoring and
the ability to have highly granular
control over which devices powerup and when, is now a
fundamental consideration when
designing systems that help
homeowners fulfil their green
aspirations.
While it has always been
possible to provide solutions that
switch off the majority of the
equipment in a rack when the
system is not in use, we now have
products which take this one step
further and offer control at racklevel. The data gathered be used to
minimise energy usage. But, this is
most beneficial if occupants
understand what is going on, and
can make choices. Our
touchpanels offer an intuitive
display, so that the homeowner can
read, at a glance, their overall
energy consumption and manage
consumption intelligently and
simply.

eeling broke and devoid
of energy? Then you’re
probably not Phil Bentley,
chief executive of British
Gas, whose basic salary alone for
2010 totalled a not-exactly-paltry
£1.3m. With energy prices
continuing to rise across the
board, it’s hardly surprising that
Bentley’s generous remuneration
has become one focal point of an
increasingly feverish debate about
fuel profits – and fuel poverty.
The energy markets are
notoriously prone to feeling the
effects of wider political and
economic developments – from
short-term factors like the
temporary suspension of many
German nuclear power plants
following the Japanese crisis last
year, to longer-term considerations
pertaining to fuel security and gaps
in supply as older power plants are
taken out of service.
Indeed, it would be difficult to
argue that the outlook for the
average customer is anything
other than decidedly bleak.
Double-digit price rises no longer
seem to be out of bounds, while a
number of governments are
expected to introduce ‘green taxes’
to help finance the ongoing shift
towards renewable energy sources.
For the householder, an everexpanding range of off-the-shelf
monitoring devices can help them
to keep track of their energy
expenditure. More sophisticated
smart home technology, of course,
has long been predicated on the
notion of a progressive decline in
individual energy usage, but it’s
doubly ironic that economic
circumstances mean that even
fewer people might be able to
take advantage of its benefits.
Reduced power consumption
and standby modes have certainly
become major selling points for
smart home solutions, but are
these emphases truly reflected by
changes in consumer behaviour?
Vincent McAtamney from UKbased integrator SMS Control
Systems doesn’t sound entirely
convinced: “With many mid- to
high-end customers this appears
to be less of an issue than
[having] reliable and ‘impressive’
home technology, although I’ve
found this to be more of a
concern among older, more
mature customers, whom it
seems do have some
environmental concerns.”
The most apparent shift in this
area, says McAtamney, has been in
relation to new-generation
lighting technologies. Even here,
though, there is a feeling that this
has been “due to an overall shift
to LED, and in particular the
‘cool’ effects that are possible, and
less driven by a desire to be
energy-conscious”.
There are some isolated
examples of more profound
behavioural changes on the part
of customers. For example,
McAtamney cites a client whose
eco-minded specification of a
bio-thermal transfer system to
heat his swimming pool is
unlikely to reap serious financial
rewards for some years to come.
The impetus towards the
adoption of alternative energy
sources will only become stronger
in the years ahead, especially if it
is supported by a legislative
framework. In the shorter-term,
systems integrators need to be
encouraging their clients to
review every aspect of their dayto-day usage patterns. After all, an
installation that does not take
proper account of the wider
context for energy consumption
could never hope to be worthy of
the epithet ‘future-proofed’.

The ultimate evolution of the Cloud is sometimes called The
Internet Of Things, where devices connect autonomously
Adrian Pennington
discovers that the Cloud is
already here for consumers
but predicts hazy days ahead
T
he provision of applications ‘in the Cloud’ is
likely to increase significantly over the next few
years. Just look at media delivery,
which has already changed irreversibly with Apple’s iCloud –
just one sign of things to come
from all of the major CE and
media players in the near future.
From a residential perspective,
the Cloud is already changing the
way we think about user experiences and system design. From
offering clients access to media
delivery services such as Spotify
and Netflix, to enabling remote
pro-active system monitoring via
services such as ihiji, Nuage9 and
Certified Cyber Solutions, designing for the Cloud has become
core to the industry.
“We are seeing it drive a convergence of services onto an
IP/Ethernet network that requires
infrastructure that is less expensive, more scalable and far more
future-ready than the legacy, proprietary systems of the past,” says
Peter Aylett, director, Home
Technology Associates.
However there are downsides,
primarily those of bandwidth and
uptime. “When delivery of content, monitoring and other services are all both dependent on,
and competing against each other
for reliable internet bandwidth,
we are still not at the stage, in the
UK at least, where broadband
internet can be completely relied
upon,” observes Aylett. “A realtime HD movie stream is approximately 6Mbps. Though one of
these is doable over many broadband connections, problems will
arise where multiple streams are
required in addition to the available bandwidth being contended
(shared) between multiple homes
at the exchange.
“As with many subsystems in
the industry, the pervasiveness of
easy-to-install, commoditised
media streaming hardware is
eroding margins in what was previously specialised, limited distribution, high margin product,”
Aylett adds.
The ultimate evolution of the
Cloud is sometimes called The
Internet Of Things. Conceptually
this is the result of connectivity
becoming so pervasive that internet connected things will no
longer be driven by the needs of
humans interfacing with devices,
but by pervasive internet-connected things autonomously
communicating with each other
by design.
“Driven and being enabled by
IPv6, The Internet Of Things will
mean that even the most mundane of devices such as fridges and
security devices will use the Cloud
to communicate in ways that
changes the model from being
server-based (both for media and
control) to being distributed on a
global scale,” notes Aylett.
Allen Weidman, sustainability
officer, InfoComm International,
agrees that the provision of commercial applications in the Cloud
is likely to increase greatly purely
and simply since “Cloud computing enables users to store files and
software remotely, rather than on
a hard drive or server at their
office, file storage for multimedia
(sound, video, music), SBT data,
software, etc is an advantage.”
Commercial Cloud applications include software as a service
(SaaS), customer relationship
management (CRM), file storage,
file synchronisation and file
back-up. “It can be cheaper and
less labour intensive, so cost savings are significant drivers, for
example replacing a LAN room
with a Cloud server,” adds Weidman. “International companies
will favour Cloud storage due to
its universal access component.”
There remain concerns over
security, network availability and
speed of connectivity. “These factors mean that the Cloud will be
user and cost driven, not driven by
technology,” Weidman concludes.
Peter Aylett speaks on Embracing
the Cloud at a CEDIA-sponsored
ISE Education Zone session today.
“Even fridges will use the Cloud to communicate”

We ask: What would you say has been the biggest change in
your area of technology since the first ISE in 2004?
AMX is no
longer in the
traditional
control
systems
market, I am
not sure that
market even exists today.
Customers still want the simple,
single user-interface they always
did, but behind that interface they
want efficiencies, cost-savings,
sustainability, intelligence, remote
management, global standards,
real-time information, carbon
footprint reduction and seamless
interoperability with lots of other
technology. This is a very different
market than it was then, and one
that is set to get even more exciting
as we interface further with
building management systems,
telephony, security and other
technologies.
Kevin Morrison, managing
director – Europe, AMX
I can say the
biggest
change is the
increase of the
bandwidth for
digital video
transmission.
At that time in
2004, fourfibre technology, having 1.6Gbps
data band per each was dominant
for transmitting WUXGA resolution
video of RGB and clock. Now, onefibre technology is available even
for 3D HD resolution, requiring
10Gbps data bandwidth. The
technology has been developed by
way of wavelength multiplexing and
also by using high-speed
serialisation technology.
Dr HK Shin, CEO, Opticis
Probably three
significant
shifts have had
the greatest
impact. In pure
technology
terms, where
loudspeaker
development is
concerned, the
most significant evolution has been
improved integration of DSP,
allowing new levels of control – not
just networked cross-over and EQ
control but, most critically, new
capabilities such as beam-steering,
exemplified in Tannoy’s QFlex
product. The second has been the
driving pressure from the market for
‘value engineered’ solutions –
delivering more focused capability in
a product category at the best
possible cost. Sideways application
of technology to deliver product that
bring real-world cost-saving
benefits to our customers is key –
easier to commission, quicker to
install, more reliable and simpler for
the end-user to interact with. Finally,
the effect of legislative change has
been notable, particularly in the
installed sound market where
emergency/mass notification
systems is a key application for our
products.
Andrzej Sosna, managing
director, Tannoy
In 2004, LCOS was only for niche
products, but we wanted to make
the advantages widely available to
the
professional
market. Our
first XEED
projectors used
our expertise
in lens and
imaging
technology to
allow us to use
LCOS in a mid-range product.
Through development of the XEED
range, we have focused on refining
our lens to the level that we’ve
reached today – virtually no image
distortion and real-life colourmatching. Most recently we have
focused on the technology that sits
outside the optical block – providing
lens options that don’t reduce the
brightness of the image. In short,
since 2004 Canon and LCOS have
delivered new levels of highperformance, high-brightness
products, producing images of a
higher quality than ever before.
Julian Rutland, visual
communication products and
solutions director, Canon
Over the past
eight years, the
most
significant
change has not
been with the
technology
itself, but more
with the
education of the users and
requesters of the technology.
Through the growth, adoption and
education of InfoComm throughout
Europe, clients are now far more
technically adept. Smarter clients
breed smarter designs.

The Smart Home and Smart
Enterprise is no longer a fanciful
concept. It is a practical reality that
is fast becoming a business
necessity. Three major trends are
shaping and propelling this new
reality: aging in place, energy
management, and consumer
convenience. These trends are
coming together at a unique time in
our history and the fact that they are
coming together now speaks loudly
on behalf of the future health and
vitality of our industry.
Integrated commercial and
residential system solutions
capable of controlling entertainment
and appliances are becoming more
and more affordable to purchase,
install, and maintain. The phrase
‘integrated systems’ has never
been more important than it is
today and it is totally synonymous
with this show!
Mark Terry, president, The
AVC Group
The biggest
market change
has been a race
to zero driven
by the
recession,
which started in
2008; prior to
this time the
market split into ‘bargain/
consumer’, ‘mid market’ and
‘premium’. There has been a
marked reduction in budgets in
each area, which has caused
quality to be sacrificed in search of
budget savings with step changes
in the accepted price point,
especially for very large display
devices such as LED video walls
and 3-chip DLP projectors. This has
had a knock-on effect on the price
point of support equipment, such
that customer demand for ‘the best
whatever it costs’ has almost
evaporated and the ‘good enough’
culture has made its way into
European purchasing decisions
with resistance to spending more
than is essential, even if a few
euros more would purchase a
significantly better product.

The biggest changes for AV and
control technologies are the
prevalence of inexpensive
touchpanels, plus HD audio-video
becoming the new industry norm.
Back in 2004, 480p DVD video with
5.1 sound and expensive touch
controls were commonplace. Today,
there are tons of touch tablets for
less than €500, and 1080p 3D video,
plus 7.1 lossless sound are the
new standard. This continual
evolution raises the bar for
companies everywhere, and
VidaBox is ready to take advantage
and offer progressively higher
quality products at lower costs,
year-after-year.

11.30-12.30, D202-D204
“Keeping track of new display
technologies and their applications
can be difficult because the field
seems to be moving so fast. I think
that it is important that AV
professionals are aware of new
possibilities and are reminded of
the principles behind them. The ISE
Training sessions are an efficient
way of getting the information
across, especially as all attendees
get a copy of the presentation.”

presenting Projection
Mapping
16.00-17.00, D202-D204
“The future of digital signage
rests, in no small part, on the
ability to mass-produce targeted,
quality content. In this session, I
will detail two of the components
of an automated digital
marketing system. These
include: processing data to
enable mass-customisation of
targeted messages; and
automated content management
and generation. This
platform drives down production
costs, dramatically reduces
production time, and greatly
expands the ability to ‘masscustomise’ high-quality digital
messages system wide. “This
represents another great
business opportunity that I will
share with my audience.”
“Projection mapping, warping and
edge blending used to be unusual,
hard and expensive to implement,
but have become mainstream
with regular new items about
installations and events using
these techniques. What may seem
a scarily complicated black art is
really quite straightforward with
the correct equipment and
knowledge. This session will
show you how to effectively
implement geometric correction
and image alignment with warp
and blend to achieve a single
seamless projection mapped
image from multiple projectors
together with geometric correction
for the projection surface.”

QSC
Designed to enhance the
capabilities of the company’s Q-Sys
integrated system platform, QSC is
premiering the Q-Sys CCN32
CobraNet audio I/O card, which
enables system bridging between
Q-Sys and a CobraNet legacy
platform. The CCN32 fits in either a
Q-Sys core or I/O frame and
provides up to 32x32 channels of
CobraNet audio in/out of a Q-Sys
system.

Premier Mounts
A new projector mounting plate
from Premier Mounts uses a 50mm
tube adapter to allow a tube of any
length to slide up and down to
achieve perfect positioning for the
projector. The adapter eliminates
the need to cut the tube to length.
Once it is installed, wing nuts allow
quick alterations to how far the tube
extends, without the use of any
tools, says the manufacturer. A
security screw holds the tube
securely in place once the projector
is in the desired position.
Stand: 4S56
Community
The manufacturer’s R-Series loudspeakers were recently deployed into
Yakima Valley SunDome in Washington’s State Fair Park. The 6,195seat venue hosts touring concerts,
basketball, wrestling and volleyball
tournaments, truck-pulls, trade
shows and other regional events.
Sousley Sound & Communications was contracted by the city of
Yakima to design and install a new
distributed audio system capable
of providing zoned coverage.
The newly commissioned system includes 24 Community
R-Series loudspeakers and six iHP
Series dual 15in subwoofers. The
loudspeakers are powered by 13
Ashly Audio amplifiers, with matrix
routing and configuration presets
provided by Ashly Protea DSPs.
In addition, the system is the
first installation to use Community’s new dSPEC226 loudspeaker
processor, the manufacturer’s
Ethernet-controlled processor that
provides the functions expected of
high-quality DSP, while implementing a number of features to
speed up the process of system configuration, multi-level limiter setting, and system commissioning.
Owner and general manager of
Sousley Sound & Communications
Leo Lee says previous sound systems have proven to be a bit of an
‘achilles heel’ for the venue, but
says the new Community system
works exactly as it was designed
and that everyone involved is very
happy with the sound quality.
“The SunDome was built in the
1990s, and at the time it was fairly
typical to install centre-cluster loudspeaker systems in domed stadiums;
most centre-cluster technology isn’t
able to meet the current audio
demands for a venue like the SunDome,” he explained. “But we’ve
received many accolades about the
new Community audio system; you
can hear every word clearly no matter where you sit in the arena, and
the sound distribution is exceptionally even.” Stand: 7M176
Interior speakers
The flush-fitting in-wall and inceiling loudspeakers in the Interior
range are a recent development
from Magnat. With their integral
design and easy-mounting system,
the new speakers provide a
virtually invisible sound experience,
says the developer. Magnat claims
that its Interior range sets new
quality standards in its product
category, as the cones on all the
woofers are made from a weave of
carbon and fibre-glass strands – a
composite that results in a high
degree of stiffness and durability.

New screens
Billing itself as France’s premier
projection screen manufacturer,
Oray has ISE as the opportunity for
visitors to test that assertion, as the
company is highlighting its range.
According to Oray, its HCM4 screen
is proof that a screen can feature a
high-quality projection surface, be
aesthetically pleasing, be silent in
operation and feature a remote
control – yet still be priced very
competitively.

We ask: Have the recent
eurozone financial difficulties
had any repercussions on
your business?
It is hard to say,
since the
growth of
Active Audio
has not been
affected. It is clear that turnover
would increase quicker without the
eurozone crisis. I’m afraid that it is
not a temporary crisis, but a new
way of life we’ll have to live by in
Europe. Company strategies must
take this into account and react
accordingly.
Regis Cazin, managing
director, Active Audio
Obviously, there is less demand in
the market in terms of new projects.
Now we have to increase our
creativity to offer new appealing
solutions to the market, squeezing
the investment
proposals and
magnifying the
ROI for our
customers.
Carlos
Rupérez,
sales & marketing director, Sirkom Europe
Yes. Customers have cut back on
their purchasing plans. That means
our orders decrease.
Sophy Yao, export department
manager, Anxin Science and
Tech Co
We operate out
of Switzerland,
and the
exchange rate
has been
extremely
challenging.
Our usual
growth (25%
year over year) has been
completely erased by the rise of the
Swiss franc. We produced roughly
30% more devices compared to last
year, but revenue has been flat
when accounted in Swiss francs.
Fortunately, we can cope since we
produce in the USD region.
Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO
and founder of Barix
In recent years, Adamson
installation products have made
their way into the hands of more
contractors and varied types of
installations in comparison to
previous years, but Adamson also
remains deeply rooted in the touring and live sound business.
During the
financial crisis
it turned out
that even when
times are tough
people around
the globe still
love to be
entertained and
distracted by
real human beings, performing live
on stage. Today, Adamson is
represented worldwide, and we
are quite optimistic in terms of
continuous global growth rates,
despite the European crisis.
Jochen Sommer, director of
European operations,
Adamson Systems Engineering
Yes, the current turbulence on
financial markets had serious
implications on our dealers’
businesses. Many end-customers
are putting projects on hold and
waiting for clarification of the situation. Others simply cut the budgets
by some amount. This, paradoxically,
has a positive
influence on
Avtek’s business,
because we can
still make small
installations
possible thanks
to a good quality/
price ratio.
Unlike many screen and accessories
suppliers, we see substantial growth
of the business this year, because
our partners are looking for more
budget-friendly solutions to compete
against other economy brands.
Tomasz Kliczkowski, vice
president, Avtek Vidis
We had growth
of over 25% in
2011. I think this
is thanks to not
being scared of
taking chances
in these
financial difficulties. We did not
cut costs in
production, marketing or R&D. In
fact we have a lot of exciting things
to show you at ISE 2012.
Tom Van de Sande, Marketing
manager, Audac
Yes, immense. Our professional
clients suffer from economic
depression
and all people
as well as
companies
suffer from the
continuous tax
austerity
measures that
drain financial
resources from investments.
Cleopatra Argiriou, export
controller, Unitech Systems
(based in Greece)
We have seen
an increase in
demand from
businesses
coping with the
European
financial deficit.
Interest in HD
video communications for remote
or flexible working has risen,
especially for organisations that
have a flexible working policy in
place. Video communications can
help businesses deliver an
experience that can replace many
of the reasons to travel and
improve both customer and
supplier experiences, while
reducing costs.

Out-of-the-ordinary aspects of
electronic image presentation will
be the theme of the ‘Unusual

He will look at progress in some of
the more unusual aspects of
electronic image presentation, and
topics will include: simulation, auto
stereoscopic displays, true 3D
without glasses, media façades,
spectacular staging, volumetric
displays, micro-displays, high
contrast displays, and
unconventional projection surfaces.
Part of the presentation will give
a historical perspective showing
how the delivery of large projected
images has progressed over
the years.

Stewart’s aerospace customers use
resolutions in excess of 4k video for
scientific imaging
T
here’s no doubt the last
few years have provided
challenges on a global
scale for everyone,
including manufacturers and our
integrator partners. Interestingly,
however, the overall negative
climate has not dampened the
industry’s continuous cycle of
innovation and re-invention. If
anything, the challenges
provided by the global economy
have led to opportunities for our
industry to provide even more
value for our commercial and
residential customers.
Our commercial integrators are
seeing opportunities surrounding
communication and collaboration
technology, no doubt influenced
in some measure by the endcustomer’s need to curtail travel
and other costs. However, the
innovation within this vertical goes
well beyond simple video
conferencing. Great efficiencies have
been realised through the delivery
and consolidation of multiple
streams of information and media
onto one screen. Media walls and
similar technology have been
enabled by the convergence of IT
and AV and we’re now only
scratching the surface of the benefits
of bringing these previously
disparate entities together.
Similarly, advancements in
projector technology have pushed
the limits and, in many ways,
continue to redefine the playing
field for projection technology. 3D
has been a topic of much focus
and attention in recent years, as the
presence of content and
applications are catching up to the
technology. 4K seems to be the
next wave, and Japanese broadcast
and Digital Cinema sectors have
been exploring and driving toward
the technology for a long time. It’s not a new goal for Stewart
Filmscreen to produce a perfectly
planar surface, with perfect high
resolution performance putting
each pixel in a perfect setting.
Stewart’s aerospace customers have
demanded and received
resolutions for scientific imaging
in excess of what 4k video
projection requires. Now, advances
in one sector are reaping great
benefits elsewhere.
By focusing on the leading
edge of technology, Stewart and
our partners will continue to
redefine the market for projection
technology in innovative, valueenhancing ways. ISE is the
marketplace from which the
ingredients of innovation
(inspiration, education, new
products and services) will be on
display for the leading-edge
European integrators to absorb. To
this end, we at Stewart Filmscreen
have been looking forward to
another outstanding show and to
a very prosperous future for
ourselves and our partners.

Panphonics going in
one direction
Sound Shower directional speakers
are designed to deliver high-quality,
focused audio to a desired area,
without disturbing the
surroundings, says manufacturer
Panphonics. They are widely used
in a range of applications including
museums, banks, retail stores,
airports and the like.
Panphonics says that the speakers
provide clear voice reproduction
even at low volumes, making it easy
for the listener to understand
messages, even in a noisy
environment. Several speakers can
be placed close to each other and,
even then, different audio messages
do not disturb each other due to the
speakers’ high directivity.

Christie
All the fun of the fair
A 3D mapping wall making use of J Series projectors and the largest
MicroTiles installation at any trade show to date are among the many focal
points of Christie’s ISE 2012 presence.
While one MicroTiles feature on the Christie stand incorporates no fewer
than 126 blocks, approximately 500 have been deployed across the
exhibition site, including on the stands of partner companies.
MicroTiles is also part of a broadcast set that includes M Series
projectors, the multi-touch Interactivity Kit and the JumpStart front-end
content solution. Christie has recently reported a series of broadcast sector
installations, among them the studios of BFM Business in France.
Additionally, show visitors have the opportunity to find out more about
the expanded LCD range, the ‘reassuringly inexpensive’ E Series, the
J Series and Christie Nitro Solutions.
Speaking to The ISE Daily, EMEA vice-president Dale Miller
confirmed that the exhibition is “very important” for Christie. “ISE sets
the trend [for the year] and provides an opportunity to see how the
market is reacting,” he remarked.

Multi-zone matrix systems
Audac
The MTX series is the latest addition to the Audac range of matrix
systems, filling the gap for ‘a very
cost efficient matrix system for a
wide area of multi-zone audio
applications,’ which the company
hopes will become the new standard for multi-zone audio.
Two models have launched at
ISE with the same features, but
with different zone possibilities.
The MTX48 can control up to four
different stereo zones while the
MTX88 can control up to eight different stereo zones.
Besides all the standard functions expected from a mid-market
audio matrix, they offer features
that were previously only available
in high-end products, such as a
fully functional web based interface to control and configure an
audio system from any device connected in a LAN.
Other features include apps for
iPhone and iPad to control the
system and the potential to add
additional control panels and
wall audio input units to zones.
The MTX also includes two
microphone inputs with priority,
p h a n t o m p owe r, t h r e e - b a n d
tone control, four line inputs,
with four (MTX48) or eight
(MTX88) output zones. The systems will be available by the end
of February.

Titan turns a new corner
Digital Projection
The new Titan Quad from Digital Projection
has highly sophisticated warp and blend
abilities that allow it to project into a corner
without losing focus. For its ISE demonstration, the exhibitor is projecting on a corner
screen and maintaining focus at the edge
about 2m away.
The four-lamp projector can also be used
with just two lamps, depending on the power
needed, with 12000 to 17000 lumens available,
and comes in SXGA, 1080p and WUXGA (1920x
1200) versions. It also has a full stereoscopic 3D
mode, for active shutter glasses, up to 144Hz.
