Church Planting/One8 Report
Brain Tillman, Pastor at Riverbend Church and Chairman of the Administrative Team presented the
ONE8 Church Planting Report and spoke about the ministry of the ONE8 Church Planting in the Association. ONE8 is a cooperating network of like-minded SBC Churches across Mississippi and the MidSouth working together to advance the gospel by serving local churches, associations, and state conventions in the areas of church planting, strategy development, training, and ministerial coaching.
ONE8 is a cooperating network of like-minded SBC churches across Mississippi and the Mid-South
working together to advance the gospel by serving local churches, associations, and state conventions
in the areas of church planting, strategy development, training, and ministerial coaching.
Over the last year, we have been greatly blessed by the opportunity to work with the XMN and numerous area churches, as well as assisting in the planting of Vintage Church in Horn Lake. Vintage
joins a group of eight other SBC churches that have been planted through ONE8 since January, 2011.
Those churches include Revision Church in Olive Branch, the Life Church in Oxford, Opulent Life
Church in Holly Springs, Lifepoint Tunica, the Basileia Church in Mantachie, Journey Church in Guntown, New Journey in Columbus, and EastPoint Church in Lewisburg. In addition, ONE8 has been able
to work with Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett to plant three new churches in the Memphis area.
Over the last three years, ONE8 churches have contributed over $50,000 to the Cooperative Program
and over $15,000 to associational missions efforts. In addition, God is using church plants to expand
his Kingdom in Mississippi in a mighty way. This year, ONE8 plants have seen over 60 baptisms
through September.
In addition, ONE8 hosted several training events aimed at church planters, pastors, church staff, and
seminary students. In February, ONE8 put on the second annual “Preach the Word” conference on
preaching at Longview Heights. Over 170 pastors attended the event emphasizing Christ-centered expository preaching. ONE8 hosted over 40 planters, staff, and spouses in April for the Refuge Marriage
Retreat. Most recently, the ONE8 Bootcamp at Longview Heights on August 5 th and 6th saw over 200
gather together to explore the theme of Shepherding in the New Testament and the implications of
the local church.
Our next “Preach the Word” conference is scheduled for March 3 rd, 2014 and will once again be hosted by Longview Heights Baptist Church. Dr. Russell Moore, President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, will join us to discuss the role the pulpit plays in
addressing issues in the culture. Dr. Danny Akin, President of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, will be our keynote speaker for our 2014 Bootcamp on September 8 th and 9th.
For more information on the ONE8 network, please visit http://one8.org or contact Josh Kubler at
[email protected] or 662.292.0713. We’d love to know how we can serve you and your church.

Missions Ministry Team Report
MISSIONS REPORT: Tim Trillet, Pastor at F.B.C. Horn Lake and Vice Chairman of the Administrative Team
talked about how the Missions Ministry Team had been focused on partnering with several local churches
with a continued work in South Asia. There were three churches who partnered to send vision teams into
the state of Uttar Pradesh. This coming year the Missions Team looks forward to expanding the work by
partnering with the workers on the field.
Over this past year the Missions Ministry Team has been focused on partnering several local churches with
a continued work in South Asia. This year we had 3 churches who partnered to send vision teams into the
state of Uttar Pradesh.
In April, 2 pastors and the AMD were able to visit Uttar Pradesh and learn from those on the field. There is
truly a great work happening in “U.P.” We learned of the church planting efforts which were taking place
in a VERY POPULATED area of the world. Those who are working in this difficult field are spending a great
deal of time working with national believers to train them in church planting, reproducing discipleship and
evangelism. The area is vast, there are over 300 Million people but the Good News of Jesus is spreading.
We were able also to visit several local churches and be part of several trainings. Needless to say this was
a wonderful experience!
While in South Asia we also had the opportunity to learn of several other partnership opportunities in one
particular city. We were able to visit a local girls school that ministered to village girls. The school aged
girls traveled from their villages, where there were no schools, into the city and received quality education
at the Christian school. The school also trained them in home economics type studies to help them be
better wives and mothers.
At the local girls school there were multiple needs our team identified which would benefit the school and
future teams to arrive. There were needs for carpentry work, electrical work, general landscape and
maintenance. There were also needs in teaching the girls. There were opportunities to teach classes and
be encouragers to those who attended the school.
This year the XMN looks forward to expanding the work by partnering with the workers on the field. To
learn more about this please feel free to call the XMN.
The XMN also sent a team to Ghana, West Africa in late fall of 2012. This trip was in partnership with several local churches as well as GO WORLD MISSIONS. The purpose of this trip was to help train local pastors
in the area of discipleship and evangelism. The missions team also had the opportunity to pass our over
1000 Gospel tracts in the highway’s and byways of Ghana.
Please continue praying for the many wonderful opportunities the XMN and its area churches has in the
coming days to share the Gospel at home and abroad. We as an association look forward to new opportunities in 2014.
Dennis Landrum, Pastor at Evansville Baptist Church, spoke about the Tate County Prayer Pastors Accountability and Prayer Breakfast that is held on Monday mornings at 8:00 a.m. at the Baptist Student
Union at Northwest Community College in Senatobia. This is a group of pastors coming together to pray
and share in a time of accountability and fellowship.

Ervin Brown Training Center Report
ERVIN TRAINING CENTER REPORT:
Joe Crawford, Manager of the Ervin Brown Training Center, spoke about the ministry of the Training Center. He shared about the Summer Missions Camps, and the on-going use of the Training Center by our
churches and organizations outside of the Association, to train their leaders and lead conferences. He also
shared about the renovations and repairs, and about the over-all ministry of the Training Center.
The picturesque Ervin Brown Training Center is a wonderful setting for many kinds of activities.
Groups of all ages come each year and enjoy the outdoors with plenty of room for worship, training,
learning and fellowship with Christian friends and family. This year the Training Center was well used
by our churches. With above average bookings and turnout the Training Center hosted groups starting
in January and weekends are reserved throughout November. In May we had the privilege to host the
Senior Adult Rally also with great turnout, great food, fellowship and perfect weather for dining in the
pavilion. In July and with relatively mild summer weather, Summer Missions Camp had exceptional
turnout of all age groups 1st to 6th grade. Several boys and girls made decisions to follow Christ at this
year’s missions camp and we are thankful for the hard work and dedication of all the workers that
made this possible.
We are thankful for each group that came through the gates this year. Also thankful for all the workers
that give of there time to schedule, plan, setup and decorate the camp, shop for supplies and all the
hard work they do so their group can have a wonderful time at the Training Center.
Mild summer weather was also helpful for making outdoor repairs and improvements at the
Training Center this year. Roofing, structural repairs, new walkways, tree removal and other projects
have been completed with still more projects in the works. Large and small projects continue year
round at the Training Center. There is a need for a new playground system (considered a large project
mainly because of cost) and funds are being raised. Commercial playground systems are expensive yet
this type of well-made system is needed in our type of environment. High volume use throughout the
year and our commitment to safety was considered as we viewed and priced many playground systems. If you would like more information on this much needed improvement to the facility please contact us at the X-tended Missions Network 662-429-5033
Again we would like to thank you for using the Erving Brown Training Center for your group
outings and training needs. God has blessed us this year with wonderful and memorable times and we
look forward to seeing you next year.

XMN Year in Review
Brian Tillman gave an overall review of the events and activities during 2013 for the Association. The goal of
the Association continues to be Magnifying Jesus by Ministering to, Maturing, Mobilizing, and Multiplying
area churches. He talked about some of the on-going ministries, which includes; Pastor’s Conferences, Training Events such as V.B.S. Jumpstart, V.B.S. Clinics, Bible Drills, International Missions – partnering together,
Senior Adult Rallies, Pastor’s Prayer Breakfast in Tate County and other ministries throughout the AssociaThis past year has been a full year! The X-tended Missions Network has provided a number of
various training events and ministry opportunities for its area churches. The XMN has also had the opportunity to partner with its area churches through planning and promotion of high quality trainings.
In 2013 our pastors and leadership have been challenged through the XMN’s Pastor Conferences
held monthly. In the past we have been led by Dr. Gregg Frizzell, Richard Owen Roberts and Bobby
Moore. This year our pastors were challenged to consider security within local churches. With crime on
the increase the church is not immune from danger. Hernando Detective, Michael White shared ways
our churches can protect themselves from predators and maintain a safe environment for children and
adults to worship. MBCB and Guidestone Representative, Bro. Robin Nichols, also led a great turn out of
men in a special pastors conference specifically addressing Financial Issues within local churches. Finally,
the XMN scheduled Dr. Jerry Rankin, former President of the IMB to speak on Spiritual Warfare in August.
The XMN also led quality training times for children’s workers through VBS Clinics, VBS Jumpstart,
Bible Drills and Missions Camps. Mrs. Wendy Johnston and Liz Alexander were excellent through their
training times and did a great job in leading our area churches to be better prepared for VBS and children’s related activities. Ron Leonard led the Association Bible Drills. We had 8 churches participate and
55 children/youth drill. Jamie and Jenny Mullin led the summer Mission Camps. We had over 90 children
participate this year.
The XMN also developed a new missions partnership this past year with South Asia. A strong coalition of churches have prayerfully adopted and engaged an unreached people group in South Asia.
Riverbend, FBC Horn Lake and Trinity Baptist Church, Southaven all took a vision trip to S. Asia this past
year to explore the possibilities of partnering with workers on the field. All who went were challenged by
the great need and encouraged to partner with the missionaries on the field. With over 300 million in
the area there is plenty of work to be involved in.
Finally, this past year the XMN was pleased to offer seven Sr. Adult Rally’s. All events were very
well attended and enjoyed by all. This year’s Sr. Adult rally at the Ervin Brown Training Center was one of
the largest ever held. Over 300+ were in attendance from churches across the XMN. The attendance was
so large that workers and staff had to place additional seating to the outside of the pavilion.
Overall, 2013 was a very successful year and we leave the results of the success to the Lord.
Prayerfully, 2014 will be an even greater year as the XMN continues to follow the Lord and His leading for
our area.

Church Health Ministry Team Report
There have been many opportunities to help sister churches in 2013 through our Church Health Ministry
Team. The primary opportunity of assistance has been through our children’s training and conferences.
This past year the Church Health Team has led several different training events. The year started off with
our VBS Jumpstart. This was a great time to help our churches think through the upcoming VBS season
and help them begin thinking through their programs. Jerry Wooley from Lifeway presented the new
curriculum and helped our churches to get in the VBS spirit.
Also held this year was our VBS Clinics which were held at Hernando Baptist. These clinics were led by
Wendy Johnston and Liz Alexander. The clinics were enjoyed by all and were a great benefit to area
churches. The purpose of the trainings was to provide training especially for those who may have never
led or taught VBS in the local church. The XMN also led out in the area Bible Drills. Nearly 55 children
and youth participated in the events. They were participating in hopes of moving on to the state level
Bible Drills.
Several other area events held within the XMN were the Desoto County Area wide Disciple Now and Tate
County Disciple Now. Both events were organized by local churches and sought to include all churches in
their respected counties. Both D-Now’s were a great success and helped to establish unity among area
churches while the services focused on pointing our students toward Christ.
The year wrapped up with the 360 Family Conference held at Longview Heights Baptist Church. The 360
Family Conference was led by Brian Houseman from Awake to Life Ministries. The conference established a biblical pattern for healthy families and sought to give parents helpful tools in leading and ministering to their children. The format of the conferences was multiple large groups sessions with many
specific topic focused breakout sessions led by quality men and women from the mid south area.
2013 also saw a new extension program develop across the XMN. New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary now has an extension center based out of Longview Heights Baptist Church led by Dr. Scott Hanberry. The extension center holds classes for the layman as well as the staff and pastors. Classes include
topics on Sunday School, small group training, hermeneutics, bible study and more. The NOBTS extension is a great training center which adds a tremendous opportunity to area churches and layman!
Sr. Adult Rally’s
In all, there have been many opportunities for area churches to find quality biblical training in the XMN
over this past year.

Leadership Development Ministry
Team Report
This past year the Leadership Development Team, under the leadership of the AMD had many opportunities to help train pastors, staff and laymen to be better equipped for work and ministry. The
XMN also had the privilege of partnering with several local churches and organizations in quality conferences.
Every year the XMN hosts 6-7 Pastors Conferences which focus on various topics pastors face
throughout their ministry. This past year the XMN hosted several conferences centered on safety
within the local church, financial stability and spiritual warfare.
The North American Mission Board also held a conference to address the churches decline. The conference focused on church revitalization which was held at Broadmore Baptist Church in Madison
and led by Pastor Johnny Hunt of Woodstock Baptist Church in Woodstock, GA. The conference was
very well attended by pastors from all over the state. Multiple pastors from the Desoto and Tate
county in the XMN also attended. All XMN pastors who were in attendance expressed their appreciation and challenge of the conference. They especially expressed the great need for each church to
make sure it was reaching into the community and not just focusing on a large group Sunday morning gathering. This was a very challenging time!
There were also two quality events led by the ONE8 Church Planting Network based in our area.
These events were the Preach The Word Conference and the ONE8 Boot Camp. Both events were
very well attended by XMN pastors and staff. The Preach The Word conference refocused on the
need of biblical exposition in the pulpit and the great responsibility of pastors to Preach the Word.
The ONE8 Boot Camp centered on Shepherding families and churches well. There is an incredible
need for pastors and staff to shepherd their families well as Christ shepherded his disciples.
These events were all challenging and encouraging to all who attended.

2013 BSU Report
From: Tom McLaughlin, Director
As we approach the eleven year mark together here at Northwest BSU I am happy to report our program continues to move forward as planned. This year begins with BSU programming on the Desoto Campus
in Southaven in its’ sixth year. We continue to be excited about the possibilities and the participation of our
Churches. We have a Noonday Friday Bible Study there which includes a meal. If your Church would like to
provide a meal during the semester just call us here at the Senatobia Campus.
As the 2013-14 school year begins we are already involving 5% of our campus in BSU activities so far.
We also have had about 25% of our Dorm students in activities on a consistent basis. God is blessing and we
appreciate your support and encouragement.
We began the year well with 200 attending our welcome party and averaging 100 in Bible study each
week. Our new “house” Praise Band is working hard as are our dorm Bible Study leaders. On September 10
we launched 5 Dorm Bible Studies along with 1 Ladies group and a commuter supper prior to Tuesday Worship will begin soon.
Missions wise we have a student serving for a year with the North American Mission Board in the Chicago area. This student was requested to return after serving there as a Summer Missionary. Three more of
our students served as BSU summer missionaries for 8 to 10 weeks. Financially supported by other BSU students they served in, Washington State, Texas and California. We finished the 2012-13 missions year with our
students raising nearly $35,000.00 for all NWCC BSU missions programming! These funds are separate from
the budget funds sent by Churches. Also, this year our students will continue our five year partnership with
several local Churches and our Missionaries in the Dominican Republic. In our previous partnership with the
Calhoun Baptist Association (Peru) our BSU contributed over 150 team members, 7 Church teams and more
than $250,000 to this partnership.
We are able to count a good number of our current and former students filling leadership positions in
Churches throughout our Community College District that were “discovered”, by those Churches, during the
last several years here at NWCC BSU. One served at the Associational staff level in the area of Missions. All
seven of our BSU interns have moved to Churches in this Association from that intern position (one Pastor,
one Minister of Music and five Student Ministers). BSU is having an impact!
I continue to appreciate the support we have had from our local Churches and Associations. I stand
ready to come to your Church and give a direct report of our work at any time.

The Baptist Children’s Village
2013 Annual Report
The 2012 Annual Report focused on The Baptist Children’s Village plan for being able to
bring the healing ministry of Christ to children and their families at an earlier point in the cycle of
need. To meet this goal of earlier intervention, the Dorcus Program was founded on the recognition
that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. The goal of the
Dorcas In-home Family Support Program is to minister to families who are near the point of collapse by providing needed services in the home that can give the family new hope. The Program
began in 2012 in the eight counties of Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe,
Pontotoc and Union. After meeting with great success in those eight counties, in 2013 the Program
was expanded to include Bolivar, Coahoma, Humphreys, Sunflower and Washington counties. A
total of 98 children have been served in the Dorcas Program and of those, all have been able to remain with their own families, in their own homes and none have been taken into the foster care
system of the State. With the 2013 expansion of the Dorcas Program, every child in the State of
Mississippi is within 50 miles of at least one Baptist Children’s Village Program.
Applying the SAFE Track model of care which brings into focus Spiritual Growth, Academic
Achievement, Family Values and Emotional Stability, the Dorcus Program is structured to improve
the ability of the family to provide adequate care for the children for whom it is responsible. This
care includes adequate sustenance, proper security and appropriate discipline. Steady expansion
of the Dorcas Program over the next several years will make it possible for the services of the Dorcus Program to be available to any child in Mississippi.
In The Baptist Children’s Village traditional group homes, children ages two through 20 continue to be served in a homelike environment which exemplifies the BCV mission, “to help children
and their families fully understand and experience the healing ministry of Christ by meeting their
daily needs, and inspiring them to become Christian adults who are happy, healthy and mature. In
2013, 11 children made professions of faith, bringing the total to 236 for the last nine years. Seeds
for these decisions were planted in local host church worship services and Bible studies, Vacation
Bible Schools, Disciple Now, Christian summer camps and daily devotionals and prayer time in
their cottages.
During 2013, residents of The BCV have excelled in a multitude of areas. They have served
as Baptist Student Union Summer Missionaries, won a national WMU Foundation scholarship, become outstanding scholars, athletes and band members, been active participants in their local host
churches, performed significant community service and held jobs that will give them invaluable experience. Both 2013 high school graduates will remain at The Baptist Children’s Village and continue their education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Northwest Community College, respectively. Two other residents who were in college during the 2012-13 school year continue their
studies in 2013-14.
Through the Cooperative Program of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, The Baptist Children’s Village received 14.7 percent of its operating budget. An additional 43 percent of the budget
comes from church gifts over and above the Cooperative Program. We are grateful for the continued support of Mississippi’s Baptist Churches for this ministry to children.

Christian Action Commission Report
Jimmy Porter, Executive Director-Treasurer
Rob Chambers, Consultant
Rita McCollum, Ministry Assistant
2013
The Christian Action Commission’s origin dates back to the 1963 meeting of the Mississippi Baptist Convention when a Long Range
Study Committee recommended the beginning of a commission that would be involved with issues that were affecting churches, homes, and
state. In 1964 the first twelve members of the Commission were elected, and on July 5, 1966, Dr. J. Clark Hensley, Superintendent of Missions
of Hinds County Baptist Association, was elected as the Executive Director.
Since that time the Christian Action Commission (CAC) has provided aids, materials, and services to churches so that churches may be
informed of facts, trends, and conditions relating to the moral, social, and ethical issues that impact their lives.
Our Mission
To provide Mississippi Baptists with materials and leadership that emphasize Biblical teachings on: Marriage & Family, Substance
Abuse, Pornography, Human Relations, Christian Citizenship, Church & State, and other Moral and Social Problems.
Our Vision
For Mississippi Baptists to be a people who consider Christlike character and Scripture as their standard for daily living.
The CAC accomplishes these purposes by informing and educating Mississippi Baptists with print and online content, seminars, and
speaking engagements. Print material includes the annual “Legislative Guide” and the monthly article, “Practical Principles for Daily Living,”
published in the Baptist Record. Online content includes email newsletters, updates, and action alerts that inform MS Baptists on moral, social,
and ethical issues. The CAC also encourages churches throughout the year to inform their congregation on issues such as: Sanctity of Human
Life (January 20), Race Reconciliation (February 10), Substance Abuse (March 17), Citizenship and Religious Liberty (June 30), Social Issues Emphasis (August 4), Anti-Gambling (September 15), and World Hunger (October 13).
On January 9, the CAC hosted the 12th annual Legislative Prayer Breakfast with Dr. Jim Futral, Executive-Director/Treasurer of the MS
Baptist Convention as the speaker. This event conveys to our elected officials that Mississippi Baptists are interested in them and their families
and that we are committed to pray for them and work with them for Christ-centered legislation. In May, the CAC hosted a Mission Mississippi
Prayer Breakfast. Mission Mississippi is a Christian organization working to encourage the Body of Christ to actively express unity across racial
and denominational lines so that communities throughout Mississippi will better understand the message of reconciliation through Christ.
The CAC continues to monitor the legislative process and to speak to the issues as they relate to its designated areas of concern. The
CAC also sends "Action Alerts" via email to encourage MS Baptists to contact their state and federal legislators to either support or oppose
certain legislation.
Among the legislation that the CAC monitored this year included bills related to religious liberty, sanctity of human life and alcohol.
Of particular importance was the passage of House Bill 673 and Senate Bills 2633 and 2795, as well as the defeat of Senate Bills 2571 and 2526.
HB 673 strengthened the Human Trafficking Act by adding language that clarified who a perpetrator is and stiffened the penalty for
such crime. Basically, human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery where children and teenagers are abducted from playgrounds, shopping malls, or other places where youth congregate and are sold into prostitution or forced labor. Reports indicate that the MS Gulf Coast is an
ideal hub for human trafficking due to international ports and airports, interstate highway corridors, and tourism.
SB 2633 enacted the Mississippi Student Religious Liberties Act of 2013. Government should not coerce or force students to abandon
their religious convictions before setting foot on public school property. This new law protects the rights of Mississippi schoolchildren and supports our educators by reaffirming our U.S. Constitutional guarantee of voluntary religious expression in Mississippi public schools, class assignments and activities.
SB 2795 created the Women’s Health Defense Act of 2013 which made “telemed” abortions illegal in Mississippi. Abortion providers
in other states had been legally prescribing abortion pills via phone and video conference. Teenagers and women were taking these pills without having a physical exam or a follow up with a physician. This bill requires doctors prescribing medical abortions to first examine women
seeking them and to schedule follow-up visits.
Significant legislation we opposed and helped defeat included a predatory lending bill. During the 2013 MS legislative session the
CAC called upon MS Baptists to oppose SB 2571 that preyed upon those who are financially vulnerable and would have legalized an increase of
a current lending rate of 36% APR up to 100% APR on loans from $501 to $4,000. Another measure the CAC opposed and helped defeat was SB
2526. This bill would have made it legal to transport an “unopened” container of alcohol in and through a dry county. This bill would have undermined the will of the voters in dry counties and would have created an enforcement dilemma for police enforcement officers in such counties.
The words of Jesus, “. . . you are the salt of the earth . . . you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14) are the mandate of the
CAC. Your “light” and your “salt” are imperative for Mississippi Baptists and are necessary if Baptists are going to impact Mississippi for Christ.
When the attitudes and actions of Mississippi Baptists line up with Scripture, then Christians will make a difference by redemptively responding
to those who are lost, suffering, and in need and by actively preserving and illuminating righteousness in a world that is dark and decaying.
The CAC covets your prayers, welcomes your support, and encourages your involvement. Together in Christ we can help Mississippians be a more Christ honoring people.
Mississippi Baptists may visit www.ChristianAction.com for information on moral issues and also sign up to receive CAC updates and
alerts.

2013 Historical Summary
BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY:
Delegates (now called "messengers") from six churches met at the Sardis church in Marshall County, May 14, 1841,
to form the "North Mississippi Baptist Association." The other five churches were Hernando and State Line (now
FBC, Olive Branch) of Desoto County; Union of Panola County; Bethel of Tate County; and the Coldwater church
of Marshall County. The second meeting was held at the Hernando church, September 30, 1842. At this meeting, the
name of the association was changed to Coldwater Baptist Association. In 1919, Dr. J. B. Lawrence, then Executive
Secretary, Mississippi Baptist Convention, suggested and urged all associations be organized as county groups. So,
in 1920, Marshall, Panola, and Tate churches formed their own associations…leaving 11 churches in Desoto County.
The Desoto churches decided to keep the name, "Coldwater Baptist Association." The name was changed to
"Desoto Baptist Association" in 1938.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF ASSOCIATIONAL MISSIONS PROGRAM:
After several years of talking, making resolutions, praying and talking again, a mission program was finally begun in
Desoto County in July 1957, with a call to Rev. James Redding to serve as our first Association Missionary. There
were fourteen small churches at this time, only four with full-time pastors. In fact, the churches did not extend the
call, they were not sure if they could provide for such a program, but the Association Brotherhood led out and initiated the program! Mr. J. B. Bell, from Hernando Church, and others sought funds to underwrite the Association Mission Program until October 1959, when it was accepted by the Desoto Baptist Association at the Annual Meeting.
Since the beginning of the Association Missions Program in Desoto County in 1957, until the merger in 1980, there
were 17 churches added to the fellowship.
Rev. James Redding resigned October 31, 1961 and Rev. Ervin Brown served as Director of Missions from March
1, 1962 until March 1, 1992. He also served as a Foster Missionary in Tate Baptist Association from 1965-1971.
Rev. John L. Perkins began serving as Director of Missions on September 1, 1992 until August 1, 2003. Stephen
Wade Steelman began serving as Association Missions Director on May 25, 2004 until October 7, 2010. Jay Lemonds serving as Director of Missions in November, 2010 until September 30, 2013
MERGER OF DESOTO BAPTIST AND TATE ASSOCIATIONS:
Tate association had never had a "full-time" Associational Missions Program. After several years of Foster Mission work,
the Tate association made the decision to ask Desoto Baptist Association to consider a possible merger. This was done in
the early part of 1980. The Desoto association responded favorably and committees began meeting to draw up guidelines
just how and when the merger would be made. After many meetings, much prayer, both associational Executive Committees voted unanimously in July for the merger. Both annual meetings in October of 1980 voted for the merger, with not
a negative expression made. The merger was finalized at the last session of the Desoto Annual Meeting, with messengers
from both associations present. The new name…NORTHWEST BAPTIST ASSOCIATION... was adopted. There were
forty-nine churches (thirty in Desoto County, nineteen in Tate County). On January 29, 2005, the association voted to
change the name from Northwest Baptist Association to X-tended Missions Network Northwest Baptist Association. On

Historical Summary continued
October 18, 2005, the association voted to change the title to X-tended Missions Network A Southern Baptist Association We now have 65 churches and 5 Missions in the X-tended Missions Network Baptist
family.
ASSOCIATION TRAINING CENTER:
In 1967 our association began a camp and retreat program at Camp Bluff Springs, using these facilities until 1979.
This camp was about fourteen miles east of Oxford, Mississippi. A former church, now disbanded, was given to us
to use for a camp. Because of distance (sixty-seven miles from Hernando) and the limited facilities, it was decided in
1977 to begin looking for a site in our association. On June 11, 1981, our association purchased one hundred thirteen
acres near Eudora for our Training Center. All of the facilities at the Training Center are paid in full. The
campground was named the Ervin Brown Training Center. We have a large screened pavilion, a storage and bath
house, a kitchen and small dining room, a bunkhouse with a capacity of sleeping sixty people, a motel unit with four
rooms, a metal shop, an in-ground swimming pool and a house for the Training Center Director. The director assists
our mission leaders with camps for girls and boys each summer and supervises all activities at the center. Each year
our churches use the Center for retreats, camp-outs, picnics, etc.
ASSOCIATION MISSION OFFICE:
Our associational mission office at 2018 McIngvale Road, Hernando, Mississippi was purchased in November of
2007. We moved to the facility in December of 2007. We have 5 offices down stairs plus a conference room, print
shop and coffee shop. Upstairs we have a 60 + meeting area, and 4 vacant offices. Downstairs we have the Colonial
Hills Hernando offices, One8 office and a counseling office. Our previous associational mission office was at 342
West Valley Street, Hernando, Mississippi and was built in 1971 and enlarged in 1983, with 2 new offices added in
2005 (missions mobilization and video/media production).
ASSOCIATION MISSION STAFF:
Our present associational mission staff is composed of: Jay Lemonds serving as Director of Missions in November,
2010 until September 30, 2013. Beth Darby, who began January 1, 1981 as Financial Secretary. Janis Clark, who
began February 13, 2003 as part-time secretary/ministry aide. John Hampton who began as the Disaster recovery
Coordinator in January of 2009. Joe Crawford who began as Ervin Brown Training Center Manager/Director on
March 14, 2011. Richard Crowson who began as the Safehaven Jail Ministry Director in August 2012.
