The south-west of Germany, especially the Black Forest, has always been a region of e
­ xperimenters
and inventors. Many of today’s world-renowned companies in the precision mechanics industry
started out here. A long tradition, in the course of which innovative ideas have spawned great
technological revolutions. Germany’s traditional watchmaking craftsmanship and, emerging from
it, an expanding watch industry which sets international standards to this day, have their roots in
the Black Forest. Junghans has been a part of this tradition for 154 years: from the Black Forest for
the world.
MADE IN SCHRAMBERG.
In 1903 Junghans is the largest clock factory in the world, crowned since 1918 by the terrace
structure still visible to this day, which offered the most modern workplaces of its time – bright
In 1861 Erhard Junghans founds a company in Schramberg that over the course of the following
and ­f looded with daylight. Today we are still loyal to the town of Schramberg as a production
decades not only writes industrial history, but also the history of the town and even of architecture
site, and to quality standards that combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art watch
itself. Schramberg becomes the town of clocks and later watches, the factory a cosmos in its own
­t echnology and ­m anufacturing methods as well as exciting design. This makes every watch
right, a town within a town, with thousands of employees.

IDEAS. INSPIRATIONS. INNOVATIONS.
The legibility of time is a virtually inexhaustible subject. Accordingly, the process undergone
by a Junghans is suitably complex and intricate before it may grace the wrist of its new owner.
It is a creative process, in which design and engineering ideas assume a leading role, aesthetic
and e
­ rgonomic aspects are taken into account, and production and assembly criteria are
rigorously tested. The result is not only a watch – but the passion for a new authentic Junghans.
PRECISION. THOROUGHNESS. PASSION.
A great deal of passion is invested in each Junghans timepiece: instilled by the care, crafts­
manship and intuitive feel for design refinements that characterise every production stage at
Junghans. Every Junghans undergoes seamless quality management from inception: before the
production of a watch is launched, the first samples and series parts are subjected to optical
and technical tests. Once all components have passed the quality checks, a Junghans timepiece is assembled from many individual parts. From the first work step to final inspection, one
watchmaker or a small team supervises the creation process and is responsible for every finished
timepiece.

architect Anton Ziegler created

the appearance of Junghans watches
for many decades, giving rise to an

Masters of speed.
Light and sound waves travel through space. The time they require for this – assuming a d
­ efined
medium – is constant. This physical phenomenon is the basis for the ability to represent m
­ easured
time as a measure of distance in space. As long ago as the 1930s, Junghans presented stopwatches
with the capability to measure average speeds or the performance of machines, in addition to pure
time measurement. In 1951, the telemeter and tachymeter functions were c­ ombined in a Junghans
chronograph for the first time. A technology tradition that once again enriches the Meister line
today.
