The Rebels will be making their third trip to the state of Florida this season after playing road games against UCF in Orlando and Florida in Gainesville. OLE MISS & THE WNIT Ole Miss will be making its fourth appearance in the WNIT and the first since the 2005-06 season. The Rebels are 2-3 all-time in games in the WNIT since first appearing in the event during the 199899 season. The Rebels hosted their first game in the WNIT Sunday afternoon and cruised to an 8749 victory over Murray State. Ole Miss will be looking for its second road win ever in the WNIT. The Rebels only road win in the WNIT came in the form of a 78-76 victory against Kansas in Lawrence March 19, 2006. REBELS AND BULLS Thursday’s game between Ole Miss and USF will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood. USF is the fourth team on the Ole Miss schedule that is a first-time opponent. Earlier this year, Ole Miss took on North Carolina A&T, Davidson and Wake Forest for the first time in school history. OLE MISS VS. THE BIG EAST Ole Miss is 8-5 all-time in games played against schools from the Big East. Thursday’s game with USF will be the first time Ole Miss has faced the Big East since losing at Rutgers 89-84 in triple overtime Dec. 12, 2006. Other than Rutgers, the Rebels have faced Marquette, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Villanova and West Virginia from the Big East. SCOUTING USF USF reached the third round of the WNIT after defeating in-state foe Florida Gulf Coast 88-81 in overtime at the Sun Dome. Like Ole Miss, USF also earned a first round bye after going 22-10 overall and 8-8 in the Big East. The Bulls enter Thursday having won five of their last six games after beating Florida Gulf Coast. Their lone loss during that span was a 79-42 setback to No. 1 Connecticut in the second round of the Big East Tournament. The Bulls feature four players who average in double figures, beginning with All-Big East first team selection Shantia Grace. Grace averages 14.5 points per game and dishes out 4.6 assists per game. HOLD THAT BALL Ole Miss committed a season-low six turnovers Sunday in its 87-49 victory over Murray State. In fact, the Rebels had just one turnover in the entire second half. It was the fewest turnovers by a Rebel team since Ole Miss had only five miscues against Tennessee Tech Dec. 31, 2000. FINALIST FOR GILLOM TROPHY Ole Miss guard Bianca Thomas has been named one of three finalists for the Cellular South Gillom Trophy, given annually to the top women’s basketball player in the state of Mississippi. Thomas joins Alexis Rack of Mississippi State and Pauline Love of Southern Miss as the three finalists for the award. The three finalists and their coaches are expected to be in attendance Monday March 30, 2009, when the trophy recipients are announced at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson. The reception starts at 5:30 p.m., while the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. BALANCED ATTACK Ole Miss featured four players who scored in double figures in the Rebels’ 87-49 win over Murray State Sunday in Oxford. It was the eighth time this season the Rebels have had a game with four or more players in double figures. In fact, Ole Miss is 8-0 in those games. Rebel head coach Renee Ladner is 15-3 overall in her two seasons in Oxford when her teams feature four or more players in double figures. PERIMETER DEFENSE The Ole Miss defense has been extremely stingy from the three-point line over the last four games. In fact, the Rebels haven’t allowed any of its last four opponents to shoot better than 27.0 percent from the beyond the act. Overall, the last four opponents have combined to shoot 15.7 percent from three-point range (11-for-70) against the Rebel perimeter defense. Murray State shot a dismal 4-for-36 from three-point range Sunday for an 11.1 shooting percentage. GOBBLE GOBBLE Ole Miss gobbled up a season-high 56 rebounds Sunday in its 87-49 victory over Murray State. It marked the eighth time this season the Rebels have pulled down at least 50 rebounds in a single game. In addition, it was the most rebounds by an Ole Miss team since the Rebels grabbed 62 rebounds against Rice in double overtime Nov. 17, 2006. LIGHTIN’ UP THE SCOREBOARD Ole Miss scored 87 points Sunday against Murray State to mark the second-highest scoring output for the Rebels this season. Ole Miss is 8-0 this season when scoring 80 points or more. In addition, the Rebels are 10-0 in the Renee Ladner era when scoring at least 80 points. The Rebels held a 38-16 edge over Murray State in points in the paint. Ole Miss enjoys a great deal of success when winning the battle in the post. The Rebels are 13-4 this season when scoring more points in the paint than their opponents. DEJA VU Ole Miss finished Sunday’s game against Murray State just under 50.0 percent from the field as the Rebels shot 48.6 percent on 34-for-70 shooting. Ironically, Ole Miss was an identical 17-for-35 shooting from the field in both the first and second halves. TWO OF THE TOP DISTRIBUTORS Thursday’s game between Ole Miss and USF will feature two of the nation’s top distributors in Shantell Black and Shantia Grace. Black is second in the SEC and 19th in the nation with 5.6 assists per game, while USF guard Shantia Grace stands fourth in the Big East and amongst the top 50 in the country with 4.6 helpers per game. ONE OF TEN Ole Miss senior center Shawn Goff enters Thursday’s game at USF with 694 career rebounds during her four years at Ole Miss. She is just six rebounds shy of becoming the 10th player at Ole Miss to compile at least 1,000 career points and 700 career rebounds. Should she accomplish that feat, she would be the only player in school history with over 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 200 blocked shots. Thomas has hit 15 three-pointers over her last five games and is averaging 3.0 made three-pointers per game. In fact, over the last four games Thomas has made more three-pointers than the rest of the Ole Miss team. The other 12 Rebels have combined to make 12 three-pointers over the course of the last five games. BLOCKED! BLOCKED! Believe it or not, but Shawn Goff is approaching another blocked shots record at Ole Miss. Goff, who earlier this year became the Ole Miss career record holder for blocked shots, is now approaching a new single season blocked shots record. Last season as a junior, Goff set the single season record for blocks in a season with 67. She enters Thursday at USF with 59 blocks this year and needs just nine more rejections to set a new single season record. In addition, she only needs two more to have the second most all-time in a single season with 61. Last season as a junior, Goff was selected to the AP All-SEC second team. She was also an AP Preseason All-SEC first team selection prior to the start of the 2008-09 season. SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST Ole Miss senior center Shawn Goff saved her best offensive performance for last as she scored a career-high 25 points March 6 against Auburn in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. Goff surpassed her previous career-high of 23 she set last season against Louisiana-Lafayette. Goff also tallied 10 rebounds against the Tigers for her fifth double-double of the season. She ranks seventh in the SEC with her five double-doubles. IN NEED OF HELP? Shantell Black dished out 10 assists March 6 against Auburn in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. It was the fourth time this season she has collected double-digit assists. She is the first Ole Miss player since Kim Bullard to have four games in the same season with 10 or more assists. Bullard accomplished the feat with five doubledigit assist games during the 1985-86 season. Black ranks second in the SEC and 19th in the nation with 5.6 assists per game. THREE-POINT SPECIALIST Rebel guard Bianca Thomas hit a game-high six three-pointers against Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament. She hit two more treys than the entire Arkansas team combined as the Razorbacks finished the contest with four made three-pointers. It was actually the fifth time this CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY ON BASKETBALL PRACTICE FACILITY Construction began in July on the future site of the $12 million, 51,000-square-foot Ole Miss Basketball Practice Facility, which is set to open in time for the start of 2009-10 preseason practice next fall. The structure will be a cornerstone in the impressive complex of athletics facilities on the southwest corner of the University of Mississippi campus. Yates Construction was awarded the bid for the construction contract on June 20, and the company began clearing trees and leveling dirt on site shortly thereafter. The facility will include four distinct spaces: public, staff (coaches), team and individual practice courts for both men's and women's teams. Spaces for the public include an attractive main rotunda/lobby to receive visitors and display men's and women's basketball memorabilia and a multimedia/entertainment meeting room that can be used for Media Days as well as for video presentations and team functions. The staff/coaches spaces are adjacent to the rotunda/lobby, where receptionists will direct visitors to their destinations. A separate entrance for coaches is provided. Coaches' offices, a conference room, a copy center, and staff locker and dressing facilities complete the suites. The head coaches' offices provide direct access to and view of their respective practice courts. The team spaces are specialized with shared weight and training rooms, and separate men's and women's film rooms, including computer terminals and video access. Separate team lounges also include computer access, game area and kitchenette. Finally, there are spacious locker and dressing facilities, with a central laundry, video editing rooms, small guest viewing space of the courts, storage and equipment storage. THAT CAN’T BE RIGHT Ole Miss recorded a season-low 26 rebounds against Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Ole Miss, who is 2-10 this season when grabbing fewer rebounds than its opponent, managed to defeated the Razorbacks 65-60 despite its lowest rebounding output of the season. The last time Ole Miss had that few rebounds in a game was when the Rebels defeated Wichita State 68-62 Dec. 19, 2000. In that game, Ole Miss also pulled down just 24 rebounds. WHAT AN OPENER Rebel junior guard Bianca Thomas lived up to her bill as an All-SEC first team selection by scoring a career-high 31 points March 5 against Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament. She is only the fourth player in school history to score 30 or more points in an SEC Tournament game. In fact, her scoring output is tied for the second-most points in an SEC Tournament game in school history. Former Ole Miss great Tarsha Bethley also scored 31 points during the 1998 SEC Tournament against Georgia. Her 31 points were the most points scored by a Rebel since former Ole Miss All-American Armintie Price tallied 31 points against Oklahoma March 25, 2007 in the NCAA Sweet 16. In addition, Thomas is one of only four players in the SEC this season to have a game of 30 or more points. She joins only DeWanna Bonner, Sha Brooks and Brionna Dickerson as the only four players who have accomplished the feat. DIALING LONG DISTANCE Bianca Thomas hit a game-high six three-pointers March 5 in leading Ole Miss to a 65-60 win over Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Her six treys tied a school record for the most three-pointes made in an SEC Tournament game. Kim Golchrist also knocked down six three-pointers in the 1991 SEC Tournament against Mississippi State. REACHING A MILESTONE Rebel junior guard Bianca Thomas hit six threepointers March 5 against Arkansas to set a new school record for the most three-pointers in a single season with 66 treys. She surpassed the previous school record of 65 set by Becky Myatt during the 1998-99 season. She enters Thursday night’s game at USF with 70 three-pointers made. 1. 2. 3. 5. Her eight helpers marked a new season-high and was her highest output of assists since she recorded nine last season at Montana Dec. 12, 2007. In addition, Melson has dolled out 27 assists over her last five games for an average of 5.4 per game. LONG RANGE LOVE Bianca Thomas hit six three-pointers March 5 to help Ole Miss to a 65-60 win over Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament. It is the ninth time this season that she has made four or more three-pointers in a single game. Earlier this year, she tied a school-record with seven three-pointers made at Mississippi State Jan. 11. THOMAS NAMED ALL-SEC Ole Miss junior guard Bianca Thomas was one of eight players named to the All-SEC First Team the league office announced March 3. Thomas becomes the 11th player in Ole Miss history to be named to the All-SEC first team and the first since Armintie Price in 2007. Thomas finished the regular season ranked third in the conference in scoring with 15.4 points per game and produced eight games of 20 points or more. She led the league with an 84.4 shooting percentage from the free throw line and ranked sixth in the SEC with a 34.3 percentage from three-point range during the regular season. REBOUNDING MACHINE Junior forward Katorra Lewis pulled down a gamehigh eight rebounds March 1 against LSU to help Ole Miss hold a 42-38 rebounding edge over the Lady Tigers. Even more impressive was the fact that she had a game-high eight boards in just 12 minutes of action. On average, Lewis grabbed one rebound every 1.5 minutes. In addition, it was the most rebounds for Lewis since she pulled down a career-high nine boards Dec. 29 against Northwestern State. Over the last five games, Melson is averaging 26.7 minutes per game. Over the first 11 conference games, Melson played only 16.9 minutes per game. HELP IS A GOOD THING Ole Miss junior guard Shantell Black recorded her second career double-double Feb. 22 against Vanderbilt with 10 points and 11 assists. Her 11 helpers tied her previous career-high which she originally set Jan. 2 against Old Dominion. In addition, it was her third game this season in which she has reached double digits in assists. SENIOR SALUTE Prior to the March 1 game with LSU, Ole Miss honored Shawn Goff as its lone senior in the class on 2009. Goff will finish her career as one of the alltime greats to ever wear an Ole Miss uniform. She enters Thursday at USF having played in 124 games for the Rebels and has started the last 57 games in which she has appeared. A preseason allSEC first team selection, she currently ranks eighth in the SEC in scoring with 13.7 points per game and 11th in rebounding with 6.6 boards per game. During her four years in red and blue, she has scored 1,162 points and grabbed 694 rebounds. Earlier this year, she became just the 22nd player in school history to score over 1,000 career points and currently ranks 19th all-time at Ole Miss in scoring. She has also served as one of the nation's top defensive forces the past two seasons and has rewritten the Ole Miss record books in the process. Last season as a junior, she swatted away 67 shots to set a new school record for the most blocked shots in a single season. SCORING IN BUNCHES Ole Miss junior Bianca Thomas has been on fire as of late for the Rebels and is scoring in bunches. Over her last five games, Thomas is averaging 19.2 points per game, including two games in which she scored at least 25 points. MAKING IT LOOK EASY Rebel junior Bianca Thomas scored a career-high 31 points March 5 against Arkansas. It was the ninth time this season that Thomas has scored 20 or more points. Thomas is one of only four players in the SEC to have at least nine games of 20 points or more. She joins Auburn’s DeWanna Bonner, Florida’s Sha Brooks and Vanderbilt’s Christina Wirth as the only players in the conference to have at least eight games with 20 or more points. Prior to this season, Thomas had only accomplished the feat once in her career. CRASHING THE GLASS Ole Miss sophomore guard Kayla Melson set a new career-high with eight rebounds Feb. 19 at Alabama. Her eight boards helped the Rebels finish the evening with a total of 51, marking the seventh time this season Ole Miss has recorded at least 50 rebounds. It was also the first time since Jan. 18 that the Rebels have collected over 40 rebounds. Ole Miss also tallied 20 offensive rebounds against the Crimson Tide to mark the eighth time this season the Rebels have pulled down 20 or more offensive boards. ELITE COMPANY Rebel senior Shawn Goff collected a game-high three blocked shots Feb. 19 at Alabama to increase her career total to 201 rejections. She REBELS INK COURTNEY MARBRA TO NLI Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach Renee Ladner announced that the team has received a national letter of intent from Courtney Marbra to play for the Rebels beginning in the 2009-10 academic year. A 6-foot-1 native of Jackson, Miss., Marbra averaged 12.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 2.4 blocked shots last season at Forest Hill High School under the direct of head coach Tommy Groves. Marbra helped the Lady Patriots to a 33-4 overall record and a berth in the Class 4A semifinals. For her efforts in the state tournament, Marbra earned a spot on the all-tournament team. “Courtney is a very athletic post player that has a tremendous upside,” Ladner said. “She is very well coached and possesses an incredible work ethic. She also comes from a very good high school program and we feel like she will fit in well at Ole Miss." LEADING HER TEAM Ole Miss sophomore guard Kayla Melson put together her highest scoring output of the season to lead the Rebel offensive output Feb. 15 at Arkansas. Melson finished with 15 points and was 6-for-9 from the field. It was only the sixth time this season Melson has scored in double figures, and the first time since she scored 14 points at UCF. In addition, she fell just one point shy of tying her career-high of 16 points she set last season against Wisconsin. Melson collected her sixth double-digit scoring game this season with a teamhigh 13 points March 1 against LSU. IRON WOMAN Rebel junior guard Elizabeth Robertson has seen her playing time increase drastically over the last three weeks. Robertson averaged just 15.5 minutes per game over the first 16 games of the season, but is now averaging 30.6 minutes per game over the last 12 contests. Robertson has started six of the last 12 games for Ole Miss and has seen action at the power forward position. TORCHING THE NETS Ole Miss made its first six field goals via threepoint shots Feb. 8 in its 66-65 victory at South Carolina. The Rebels would go on to finish the game with 10 three-pointers to mark the second time this season Ole Miss has hit 10 or more threepointers in a single game. Ole Miss hit 11 treys Dec. 20 in an 85-67 win over UCF. It is the first time since the 2002-03 season that Ole Miss has had two games in the same season in which it hit double digit three-pointers. WHAT A SEASON Ole Miss junior Bianca Thomas is putting together one of the best seasons in the SEC. She is among the league leaders in several categories this season. Thomas has nearly doubled her scoring output from a year ago as she averaged 8.3 points per game last year. Her 8.3 points per game ranked her fourth on the team in scoring at this time last year. MAY I HELP YOU? Ole Miss junior point guard Shantell Black has dished out five or more assists in nine of her last 12 games. Black has dished out 73 assists over her last 12 games and is averaging 6.1 per game during that time span. Black ranks second in the SEC and 19th in the nation with 5.6 helpers per game. She has eight games this season in which she has collected eight or more assists, and four in where she has reached double digits. TAKING WHAT’S HERS Rebel junior guard Shantell Black has upped her defensive pressure since the start of conference play. Black is first in the SEC in steals per game with 2.4 thefts per game since conference play began. Email: [email protected] BECOMING NUMBER 22 Ole Miss senior center Shawn Goff scored eight points Jan. 29 in the Rebels’ 60-59 heartbreaking loss to Tennessee. With her first basket midway through the first half, Goff became just the 22nd player in school history to score 1,000 or more career points. She enters the WNIT with 1,141 points and is on pace to finish with over 1,200 points, which would rank her 15th on the school’s all-time scoring list. Current Ole Miss Associate Head Coach Peggie Gillom ranks first on the school’s all-time scoring list with 2,486 career points. In fact, Gillom is the school’s all-time leading scorer regardless of gender. JACK OF ALL TRADES Rebel point guard Shantell Black has proven herself to be one of the most versatile guards in the SEC this season. Black scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out six assists and tallied five steals in an upset bid of Tennessee Jan 29. It was the second time this season that Black has scored in double digits and collected at least five rebounds, assists and steals. Earlier this year, Black finished with 11 points, five rebounds, eight assists and seven steals in an 81-48 victory over Rice. LENDING A HELPING HAND Rebel starting point guard Shantell Black has been one of the league’s top distributors this season as evident by her 179 assists. Black ranks second in the SEC and 19th in the nation with 5.6 helpers per game. As a team, the Rebels enjoy the most success when Black maintains her average in assists. Ole Miss owns a 13-6 overall record this season when Black meets or exceeds her average in assists, but is just 5-7 when Black fails to record five or more helpers. FINDING NUMBER THREE Ole Miss has featured two consistent scorers this season that average in double figures in senior Shawn Goff (13.7 ppg) and junior Bianca Thomas (15.8 ppg). However, finding a third consistent scorer to produce in double figures has been difficult for the Rebels so far this year. Sophomore guard Alliesha Easley has scored in double figures in nine games this year and is a candidate to be that third scorer, but Easley has been unable to maintain a double digit scoring average. The Rebels are extremely successful when Easley does score in double figures as Ole Miss has a perfect 9-0 record this year when she does. Thomas averaged 12.8 points per game during non-conference action, but is scoring 18.1 points per game against SEC foes, including a then career-high 28 points Feb. 5 at Auburn. Thomas is currently third in scoring during conference games. Overall, Thomas is also third in the SEC in scoring with 15.8 points per game. BATTLE OF THE BOARDS Everyone knows that the team with the most points at the end of the game is the team that is going to win the game, but in the case of the Ole Miss Rebels the team with the most rebounds at the end of the game might be just as successful. The Rebels are 16-4 this season when finishing with equal or more rebounds than their opponent. However, Ole Miss is 2-9 when it is out-rebounded by its opponent. Old Dominion and Arkansas are the only teams the Rebels defeated this season when grabbing fewer rebounds. CAREER NIGHT Rebel junior Shantell Black scored a career-high 22 points Jan. 22 against South Carolina to surpass her previous career-high of 17 points she scored last season against Penn State. It marked the first time this season she has led the team in scoring and just the second time in her career that she scored over 15 points. MILESTONE WIN After defeating Alabama 73-43 Jan. 18 from Tad Smith Coliseum, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team became just the 23rd program in NCAA Division I history to collect 700 or more wins. Ole Miss enters the SEC Tournament with an all-time record of 704-366 and is only one of five schools in the SEC to have collected 700 or more all-time wins. Only Tennessee (1,098), Georgia (762), Auburn (764) and LSU (734) have more all-time wins than Ole Miss. WHAT A TURNAROUND The Rebels recorded their 18th victory of the season Sunday after beating Murray State 87-49. That victory is now five more than the entire win total from a season ago. Ole Miss finished 13-16 overall in 2007-08. ON FIRE Ole Miss junior guard Elizabeth Robertson tied her career-high with four three-pointers made Jan. 18 against Alabama. It was the fourth time in her career Robertson has made four three-pointers. Robertson went the first two games of the SEC schedule without a three-pointer. She enters Thursday at USF sporting a 31.1 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Email: [email protected] A MODEL CITIZEN Ole Miss senior center Shawn Goff has been selected as the SEC Community Service Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 20 the league office announced. Goff has played an instrumental role this season in spearheading the majority of the team’s community service efforts. So far this year, Goff and the Rebels have participated in Reading with the Rebels, a hospice outreach program, Operation Christmas Child, a shoe drive for Kenya, assisted with the Lafayette County Christmas Store and adopted a family for Christmas. A member of the Ole Miss Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Goff also coordinates the monthly community service agenda for the team and helps collect donations. SCORCHING HOT Rebel junior Bianca Thomas put together one of her best games in a Rebel uniform Jan. 11 against Mississippi State. Thomas scored 25 points and finished the game 9-for-20 from the field. In addition, Thomas was 7-for-13 from three-point range to tie the school record for most three-pointers in a game. Only Becky Myatt (1999) and Regan Seybert (1995). In addition, her seven three-pointers are tied for the second most by any individual in the SEC this season. SHOULDERING THE LOAD The Ole Miss duo of Shawn Goff and Bianca Thomas have the carried the offensive load thus far for the Rebels this season. Either Goff or Thomas had led the team in scoring in 26 of 32 games overall. Other than Goff and Thomas, only Kayla Melson (Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas and LSU), Shantell Black (South Carolina) and Alliesha Easley (Memphis & Alabama) have led the Rebels in scoring this season. Prior to the Jan. 18 game with Alabama, either Goff or Thomas had led the team in scoring in 13 straight games. DYNAMIC DUO Ole Miss features two of the top two scoring threats in the SEC in senior Shawn Goff and junior Bianca Thomas. Thomas ranks third in the SEC with 15.8 points per game, while Goff is eighth with 13.7 points per game. Ole Miss is one of only two schools in the SEC to feature two players ranked in the top-10 in the conference in scoring. Florida also holds that distinction as Sha Brooks ranks second in the league (16.6 ppg), while Marshae Dotson stands seventh (13.7 ppg). BLACK-OUT Rebel junior point guard Shantell Black registered her first career double-double Jan. 2 in Ole Miss’ 79-72 victory over Old Dominion. Black scored 13 points and dished out a career-high 11 assists. In addition, it was also Black’s third career game in which she recorded double digits assists. Black collected 10 assists last season against LouisianaLafayette (Nov. 18, 2007), and earlier this season against Memphis (Nov. 21, 2008). TERRIFIC TRIO Three Ole Miss Rebels were selected to the Ole Miss Holiday Classic All-Tournament team following its team championship Dec. 30 at the Tad Pad. Junior Bianca Thomas was selected to the team after averaging 14.0 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game over the course of the two games. Earlier this season, Thomas was selected to the Winthrop Hilton Garden Inn Classic AllTournament team. Shantell Black also earned alltournament team plaudits after averaging 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to go along with 12 assists and eight steals. Shawn Goff was named the tournament MVP after averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. WATCH OUT! Ole Miss recorded a season-high 19 steals Dec. 30 in its 81-48 victory over Rice in the Ole Miss Holiday Classic. It was the most thefts for an Ole Miss team since the Rebels recorded 25 steals against Alabama in the first round of the 2007 SEC Tournament. HOLDING THEM DOWN Ole Miss held Alabama to just 43 points Jan. 18 in its 73-43 victory over the Crimson Tide to capture its second conference win this season. It was the seventh time this season that Ole Miss has held an opponent to 50 points or less. The Rebels are 115-1 alltime when holding an opponent to 50 points or less. THE MAGIC NUMBER IS 80 Ole Miss scored 80 or more points for the seventh time this season when the Rebels defeated Rice 81-48 Dec. 30 in the Ole Miss Holiday Classic. BOMBING THREE’S Ole Miss hit a season-high 11 three-pointers Dec. 20 in an 85-67 win at UCF. It was the most threepointer by an Ole Miss team since the Rebels hit 10 treys against Mississippi State Jan. 27, 2005. Both Bianca Thomas and Elizabeth Robertson hit four triples for the Rebels against the Knights. Robertson was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. The 11 three-pointers is tied for the third most by any team in the SEC thus far this season. STREAK SNAPPED With its 46-42 loss at NC State Dec. 14, Ole Miss failed to win for the first time in school history when holding an opponent to 50 points or less. The Rebels entered the game 113-0 all-time when keeping its opponent to 50 points or less. Prior to the NC State game, Ole Miss was 4-0 this season when accomplishing that feat. The Rebels are now 115-1 all-time when holding an opponent to 50 points or less. PULLING THEM DOWN Ole Miss pulled down a season-high 23 offensive rebounds, while limiting NC State to just eight Dec 14 in Raleigh. It was the most offensive rebounds for Ole Miss since the Rebels grabbed 25 against TCU in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament. In addition, the Rebels have now had seven games in which they have collected at least 20 offensive rebounds. The Rebels are second in the SEC with 16.4 offensive rebounds per game. Only Tennessee has more offensive rebounds with 18.2 per game. BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE Rebel junior guard Shantell Black has been one of the top point guards in the SEC this season. Not only is Black second in the SEC and 19th in the nation with 5.6 assists per game, but she is also one of the best in assist/turnover ratio. RECORD LOW In Ole Miss’ 83-32 win over Nicholls State Nov. 29, the Rebels set a new school record for fewest points allowed. The previous school record for fewest points allowed with the 36 points Ole Miss limited UT-Arlington to Nov. 30, 1994. NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER By picking up its sixth win in the month of November against Nicholls State on Nov. 29, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team set a new school record for wins in the month of November. Ole Miss had won five games in November during the 1979-80, 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, but had never picked up win number six until this season. FREE THROW SUCCESS The Rebels feature five players that shoot 70 percent or better from the free throw line at this point of the season. Easley, who missed all of last season with an ACL injury, has not missed a beat in this her first season back from injury. Easley is fourth on the team in scoring (7.0) and fourth in rebounding (3.7). Easley, who has started every game but six in her career, has scored in double figures in nine games this year. TOURNAMENT TITLE With a pair of victories Nov. 15-16 in Rock Hill, S.C., the Rebels claimed the Winthrop Hilton Garden Inn Classic Tournament championship following wins over North Carolina A&T and Davidson. It was the first tournament championship of any kind for Ole Miss since the 2004-05 season. That season the Rebels beat both Marquette and Vermont to win the Surf-N-Slam Tournament championship in San Diego. TOURNAMENT HONORS After securing the Winthrop Tournament championship, two Rebels were selected to the all-tournament team. Junior Shantell Black was the first Rebel selected to the team as she posted a pair of games in which she scored in double figures. Black also tied a career-high with the eight rebounds she pulled down against North Carolina A&T. Fellow junior Bianca Thomas, who joined Black on the all-tournament team, was also selected as the tournament MVP after scoring 14 and 16 points respectively. Thomas, who led the team in points in both the first two games of the season, only posted four games last season in which she paced the team in scoring. PRESEASON PLAUDITS Ole Miss senior center Shawn Goff was selected as a member of the All-SEC first team as voted on by SEC media and national media along the league’s coaches. An All-SEC second team selection by the league’s coaches and the Associated Press in 2007-08, Goff finished the season ranked first on the team and 12th in the SEC with 13.0 points per game. The Tallahassee, Fla., native also pulled down 6.8 rebounds per game to stand second on the team and 13th in the conference. At the conclusion of the season, Goff was one of three finalists for the Cellular South Gillom Trophy, awarded annually to the top women’s college basketball in the state of Mississippi. The Cellular South Gillom Trophy, which is presented each year to Mississippi's best collegiate women's basketball player, is named in Ole Miss Associated Head Coach Peggie Gillom’s honor. Part of the Cellular South Outstanding Player Award Series, the first trophy was presented Mar. 31, 2008 in Tupelo, Miss. Media voters from across Mississippi determine the three finalists and the eventual winner. Rebel Shawn Goff was selected as one of the top three finalists for the award last season and is once again one of the top candidates for the award in 2008-09. basketball team to a 77-45 victory over DT-3 Tuesday evening at Tad Smith Coliseum. Fellow newcomer Nikki Byrd nearly added a double-double of her own as she finished the contest with 11 points and nine rebounds. Junior Elizabeth Robertson led all scorers with 13 points, which included a trio of three-pointers. Anitha Smith-Williams led DT-3 with 12 points and four assists, while both Jessi Loring and Lauren Riley-Varley added 10 points apiece. The Rebels used a suffocating defensive effort throughout the game to limit DT-3 to just 30.9 percent shooting for the contest. In addition, Ole Miss dominated the rebounding game as the Rebels more than doubled the visitors on the boards, finishing with a 64-30 edge in that department. After leading by double digits for most of the first half, Ole Miss erupted early in the second period to blow the game wide open. DT-3 cut the Rebel deficit to 11 points on a threepointer by Taryn Towns just under three minutes into action, but Ole Miss responded with a 17-0 run over a span of 5:42 to open up a 28-point lead. The Rebels would go on to lead by as many as 34 points on their way to a convincing win. Ole Miss jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first nine minutes of the game as the Rebels received scoring contributions from seven different players during that time span. In addition to the offense production, the Rebels were also efficient on the defense end, failing to allow DT-3 to reach double digits until the 8:17 mark of the half. Robertson led the way for Ole Miss in the first half as she poured in eight points, including 2-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Ole Miss forced 22 Christian Brothers turnovers and turned those miscues into 30 points. Sophomore guard Alliesha Easley led the way for the Rebels as she tallied six steals, including a stretch of three consecutive thefts in a matter of 24 seconds midway through the first half. Easley finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists to go along with her steals. Junior guard Bianca Thomas paced the Rebels with 17 points and eight rebounds, while senior center Shawn Goff tallied 11 points and eight rebounds of her own. Freshman Nikki Byrd turned in 10 points, three rebounds and two block shots to round out a quartet of Rebels in double figures. Goff and Byrd led a balanced attack in the post that saw the Rebels hold a 40-6 advantage in points in the paint. The size discrepancy also helped Ole Miss record 27 offensive rebounds and 22 second chance points. Christian Brothers guard Tanaeya Worden was the only Lady Buccaneer to score in double figures as she finished with a team-high 11 points. Ole Miss and Christian Brothers battled back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Rebels, however, used a 17-0 run in just over two minutes to open up an 18point lead. During the run, Ole Miss forced seven turnovers by constant trapping in the back court. The Rebels finished the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 23-point lead in the dressing room. Sophomore guard Alliesha Easley turned in an impressive performance in her first game back from injury as she tallied 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Shantell Black added 12 points and tied her career high with eight rebounds, while junior Katorra Lewis scored 11 points to round out a quartet of Rebels in double figures. North Carolina A&T forward Brittanie Taylor-James paced the Aggies and led all scorers as she collected 18 points and six rebounds. Fellow forward Jalessa Sams finished with 10 points and was the only other Aggie to register a double digit performance. Ole Miss and North Carolina battled back-and-forth for most of the first half as neither team held more than a sevenpoint lead. The Aggies actually claimed their largest lead of seven points seconds before halftime as Tyronnica Alford hit a baseline jumper as time expired in the first half to give the Aggies a 34-27 lead at the break. The Rebels made quick work of the North Carolina A&T lead in the opening minutes of the second half as Ole Miss used a 13-6 run in just over three minutes to even the game at 42-42 at the 15:07 mark. On the following possession, Thomas gave the Rebels their first lead since the 2:39 mark of the first half as she converted on a layup off a feed from freshman Kayla Holloway. Midway through the second half, North Carolina A&T regained the lead 48-47 after Tu’Wuana Cook completed a three-point play in transition. Ole Miss, however, maintained its composure and sunk four straight free throws to regain a three-point edge with just over nine minutes remaining. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason player of the year Amber Bland answered right back on the other end with a three-pointer from the corner to even the score at 51-51, but Ole Miss used an 8-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from junior Elizabeth Robertson to claim a lead it would never surrender. From that point on, Ole Miss stretched its lead to double digits and would lead by as many as 16 points on two different occasions. Rebel junior Bianca Thomas turned in her second straight impressive performance as she finished the game with a team-high 16 points on her way to being named the tournament MVP. Fellow junior Shantell Black finished the contest with 10 points to go along with five points en route to an alltournament team selection. Ole Miss held what looked to be a comfortable 52-39 advantage with just over four minutes remaining following a jumper from sophomore Alliesha Easley, but Davidson answered with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to trim the Rebel lead to just four points with 1:53 left to play. Black, however, provided Ole Miss with some breathing room on the following possession as she converted on a highly-contested jumper in the lane to put the Rebels back ahead by six points. Davidson managed to get within four points with 29 seconds on the clock, but Ole Miss held on the defensive end by forcing the Wildcats into a difficult three-point shot before securing the ensuing rebound. In fact, Davidson finished the game 1-for-16 from beyond the arc and was 0for-8 from down town in the second half. In addition to her clutch shot on offense, Black sealed the game for the Rebels with just over seven seconds remaining as she forced a jump ball on defense and then sunk one free throw to help deliver the tournament championship. Ole Miss and Davison battled back-and-forth for the first five minutes of the game before the Wildcats put together a 9-0 run to open up a 17-9 lead midway through the first half. The Rebels quickly responded with an 8-2 lead of their own to nod the game at 19-19 with just under four minutes left in the half. The Rebels closed the half strong and scored seven points on three layups and one free throw in the final two and a half minutes of the half to take a 26-23 lead into intermission. 2008-09 BOX SCORES Game #5 • November 19, 2008 Ole Miss 74, Louisiana-Lafayette 48 All 12 Ole Miss players in uniform scored at least one point as the Rebels secured their first road victory of the season with a 74-48 victory over Louisiana Wednesday night from the Earl K. Long Gym. Sophomore guards Kayla Melson and Alliesha Easley finished in double figures for the Rebels as the duo registered 13 and 12 points respectively. Freshmen LaTosha Laws and Whitney Hameth scored their first points in a Rebel uniform by chipping in with five and seven points respectively. Ragin’ Cajun forward Alexis Green scored a game-high 10 points, while guard Jasmine Barnes finished in double figures with 10 points. Ole Miss (3-0) used a dominating effort in the rebounding category to finish the game with a 53-30 edge on the glass. The Rebels used that rebounding discrepancy to hold a 21-7 advantage in second chance points, while also collecting more than half their points (38) in the paint. Defensively, the Rebels limited Louisiana to just 31.7 percent from the field and held the Ragin’ Cajuns to just 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. In its three games thus far this season, Ole Miss is holding its opponents to just 15.6 percent from three-point range. Louisiana jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game, but Ole Miss quickly erased the deficit with 6-0 run of its own capped by an old fashioned threepoint play from Melson to give the Rebels a 6-5 advantage. The Rebels continued to expand their lead and opened up a seven point lead at 16-9 midway through the half as Easley hit a jumper in the lane. Easley paced the team in the first half with 10 points. From that point on, the Ragin’ Cajuns used a 12-5 run to even the score at 21 points apiece following a jumper from Barnes, forcing Ole Miss head coach Renee Ladner to use a timeout. Ole Miss responded with a 17-0 run to close the half to take a 38-21 lead into the dressing rooms, holding the Ragin’ Cajuns scoreless for the final 6:11 of the half. With the win, Ole Miss improves to 32-3 all-time in season home openers, and has now beaten rival Memphis 17 straight times at Tad Smith Coliseum. Sophomore guard Alliesha Easley scored a team-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Junior Katorra Lewis finished with 13 points and didn’t miss a shot the entire game. The Clinton, Miss., native was a perfect 4for-4 from the field, including 1-for-1 from three-point range, and was also 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Memphis guard Paris Leonard scored a game-high 24 points, while fellow guard Ramses Lonlack added 11 points and was the only other Tiger in double figures. Ole Miss (4-0) sprinted out to a 10-0 lead in the first four minutes and never looked back. Easley started the game with a three-pointer from the corner and Robertson capped the run with a triple of her own. The Rebels continued to build their lead and would extend their advantage to as many as 25 points in the first half. In fact, Ole Miss held Memphis under 10 points until the 3:10 mark of the first half. The Tigers managed to shoot just 20 percent from the field and were 0-for-8 from three-point range. Offensively, Ole Miss shot 50.8 percent from the field and was 47.1 percent from the three-point line. The Rebels held Alcorn State to just five made field goals in the first half and didn’t allow the Lady Braves to reach double digits until 4:41 mark of the first half. It was the second straight game Ole Miss’ opponent needed over 15 minutes to reach double digits. Ole Miss improves to 112-0 all-time when it holds its opponent to 50 points or less. Along with Alcorn State, both Davidson and Louisiana-Lafayette were unable to score more than 50 points against the Rebels this season. Overall, Ole Miss is allowing its opponents to score 53.0 points per game. Senior center Shawn Goff fell just shy of a double-double as she finished with a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds to go along with six blocked shots. Her six rejections tie her career-high she set a season ago against Miami. In addition, it is tied for the second most blocked shots in a game in school history. Only Susan Byrd compiled more rejections in game as she finished with seven against Southern during the 1993-94 season. Junior guard Bianca Thomas also finished in double figures as she added 11 points, a career-high eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Alcorn State forward Corneshia Hollis led the Lady Braves with 11 points and eight rebounds, while guard Cheetara Johnson finished with 10 points. Ole Miss (5-0) opened the game on a 7-0 run and quickly took a double digit lead at 12-2 just over six minutes into the game. Hollis hit a three-pointer to cut the Ole Miss lead to seven points at the 12:13 mark of the first half, but from that point on the Rebels held the Lady Braves without a field goal for over nine minutes and extended the lead to 16 points. The Rebels would go on to lead to by as many as 29 points in the second half and finished the contest shooting 38.3 percent from the field. As a team, Ole Miss is shooting 41.3 percent from the field this season. The previous school record for fewest points allowed was the 36 points Ole Miss limited UT-Arlington to on Nov. 30, 1994. Saturday’s victory was also the first time Ole Miss has beaten an opponent by 50 or more points since the Rebels downed Fordham 99-43 during the 2006-07 season. Ole Miss (6-0) used its substantial height advantage to dominate the post and outscore Nicholls State 60-18 in the paint. Rebel senior center Shawn Goff led the way for Ole Miss as she finished with a game-high 14 points to go along with four blocked shots and five steals. Freshman Nikki Byrd tallied eight points, seven rebounds, two blocks and four steals during her 17 minutes in the post. Nicholls State forward Christie Bryant led the Lady Colonels with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Rebels used another strong defensive effort as Ole Miss held Nicholls State to just 24.5 percent shooting from the field, including a mere 11.1 percent from three-point range. The Rebels also collected eight total blocks, and have now blocked seven or more shots in two straight games. The Rebels sprinted out to an 8-0 lead early in the game and didn’t allow Nicholls State to score a point until over six minutes into the game. The Lady Colonels managed to keep it close for most of the first half, but Ole Miss used an 8-0 run to close the half to open up a 17-point lead at halftime. Ole Miss continued its run into the second half and expanded it to a 23-0 run before allowing the Lady Colonels to score their first points of the second half at the 15:50 mark. By that time, however, the Rebels had opened up a 32-point lead and would go on to lead by as many as 53 points. Junior Bianca Thomas also scored 20 points, which included four three-pointers, to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Freshman Nikki Byrd scored a career-high 15 points, while sophomore Kayla Melson added 11 points to round out a quartet of Rebels in double figures. Southeastern Louisiana also featured four players who scored in double figures, led by the 17 points from forward Quantae Thomas. Ole Miss (7-0) raced to an early 8-0 lead over the first three minutes of the game highlighted by six relatively easy points in the paint on its first three possessions of the game. The Rebels finished the game with a 46-12 advantage over the Lady Lions in points in the paint. After the Rebels opened up an 11-point lead with just under seven minutes gone by, Southeastern Louisiana used a 19-7 run over the next five minutes to take its first lead of the game at 24-23 following a three-pointer from Chelsea Hix. The Lady Lions finished the game 42.1 percent from threepoint range on 16-of-38 shooting. The two teams battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the first half as neither team held more than a five point advantage over the final seven minutes. Thomas, however, scored the final two points of the half with 34 seconds on the clock to give the Rebels a 39-38 edge at the break. Southeastern Louisiana (4-3) scored the opening bucket of the second half just 15 seconds into action to regain the lead, but Ole Miss answered back with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to open up a 54-40 lead. The patience of Longhorns head coach Gail Goestenkors was rewarded. The No. 9 Longhorns defeated Ole Miss, 74-50, controlling the final 24 minutes. The balanced offensive attack placed four players in double figures, led by Brittainey Raven with 16 points. Erika Arriaran added 14 points while Ashleigh Fontenette and Kathleen Nash had 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Longhorns broke open a 26-26 tie late in the first half on consecutive three-point shots by Arriaran and Yvonne Anderson. By halftime, Texas led 36-29 and opened it to 4429 with 16:47 left on a jumper by Raven. Ole Miss (7-1) never got closer than nine points again. Texas led by as many as 26 points in the final four minutes, sparked by a decisive 47-34 rebounding edge, and got points from all 11 players that had playing time. The Rebels were led by Shawn Goff and Kayla Melson with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Ole Miss, who ranked second nationally in rebounding margin, were outrebounded by Texas, 47-34. In an eight-minute span that bridged both halves, Ole Miss had one field goal. The Longhorns shot 29-of-60 from the field, 48 percent, while Raven and Arriaran combined for 11-of-21, including five three-point shots. Ole Miss finished 16-of-61, 26 percent, from the field. Rebel sophomore Alliesha Easley gave Ole Miss a 33-32 lead at the 5:09 mark of the second half as she hit a baseline jumper with the shot clock nearing zero. NC State, however, answered on the other end on the ensuing possession as Shayla Fields hit a deep three-pointer to catapult the Wolfpack ahead by two points. After Shawn Goff hit one of two free throws to cut the Wolfpack lead back to one point, Fields once again responded by scoring the next four NC State points to extend the lead to five points with just over three minutes left to play. Consecutive baskets from Shantell Black and Nikki Byrd pulled Ole Miss to within a point at 39-38 with just over two minutes to play, but NC State forward Tia Bell made a contested mid-range jumper on the other end to put the Wolfpack ahead by three points. From that point on, Ole Miss shot 0-for-5 from the field over final 1:40 and was forced to put NC State on the free throw line to stop the clock. The Wolfpack shot just 4-for-8 from the charity stripe during that time frame, but it was just enough to hold the Rebel offense at bay. Trojan guard Anshel Cooper opened the extra period with a baseline jumper to put UALR ahead 56-54 in the opening minute. The Rebels chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to one point midway through overtime following a pair of free throws from Rebel senior Shawn Goff. Cooper, however, answered on the other end with another jumper on the ensuing possession to put UALR back ahead by three points with just under two minutes remaining. UALR managed just two points of its own over the final 1:51, but the Trojan defense held the Rebels scoreless until junior Bianca Thomas sunk two free throws with four seconds left on the clock to cut the Trojan lead to 63-61. After UALR forward Chastity Reed made one of two free throws to put the Trojans back ahead by three points, Thomas nearly sent the game into a second overtime as her half court heave hit off the left side of the rim before bouncing harmlessly to the floor. Ole Miss (7-3) looked to have the game under control with just over two minutes left in regulation when Thomas intercepted a pass at the Trojan free throw line, dribbled the length of the floor and drove in for an easy layup to put the Rebels ahead 54-49. Just over a minute later, Kim Sitzman attempted a deep three-pointer that hit off the back iron and into the hands of Thomas. Rebel guard Shantell Black was intentionally fouled and sent to the free throw line with 51 seconds on the clock. After Black missed the front end, Asriel Rolfe cut the Ole Miss lead to two points at 54-52 as she connected on a three-pointer with 27 seconds left to play. The Rebels inbounded the ball to Black, and she was once again sent to the free throw line for a one-and-one situation. Black was unable to hit the initial free throw, giving the Trojans a chance to either tie the game or win it with a three-pointer. Cooper capitalized on that opportunity and essentially sent the game into overtime with a mid-range jumper to even the score at 54 points apiece. Like she had nearly done at the end of overtime, Thomas almost won it in regulation as her leaner in the lane at the buzzer rolled around the rim before spinning off and falling to the ground. Goff led the way for Ole Miss on the offensive end as she finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots for her second consecutive double-double. The Rebels finished the game 11-for-17 from three-point range, including 6-of-9 during the second half. It was the most three-pointers a by Rebel team since Ole Miss hit 10 treys against Mississippi State Jan. 27, 2005. Junior Bianca Thomas led the way for the Rebels as she hit four triples and finished with a team-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Senior Shawn Goff scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and tallied two blocked shots. Sophomore Kayla Melson also scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, while fellow sophomore Alliesha Easley added 12 points, including 10 in the second half. UCF scored the next three points to regain a 41-40 lead, but Melson answered with a three-pointer of her own from the wing to put the Rebels ahead for good. The Knights cut the Ole Miss lead to seven points with just under eight minutes remaining in the game, but Easley swished a three-pointer with the shot clock approaching zero to put the Rebels back ahead by double digits. From that point on, Ole Miss used an 11-3 run over the next five minutes to open up a 19-point edge with just under three minutes left. Ole Miss (8-3) finished the contest shooting 51.7 percent from the field and scored 22 points in the paint. The Rebels also forced UCF into 23 turnovers and turned those miscues into 20 Ole Miss points. UCF scored its first 12 points of the game on three-point jumpers, including three from Wiley to jump out to an early 12-8 lead just over three minutes into the game. In fact, the Knights hit their first seven three-pointers of the game and finished the half 77.8 percent from beyond the arc. Seven of UCF’s 10 first half field goals were from threepoint range. After leading by just three points at the end of the first half, Wake Forest shot 65.4 percent from the field in the second half and held the Rebels just 11 field goals and 0-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Ole Miss (8-4) cut the lead to just one point at 32-31 on its opening possession of the second half on a bucket from Shantell Black, but would get no closer in the game as Wake Forest would lead by as many as 27 points. The Rebels cut the lead to six points midway through the second half, but Wake Forest used a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to open up a 17-point advantage. Rebel junior Bianca Thomas paced Ole Miss on the offensive end as she tallied 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Black finished with 10 points, three assists and four steals. Wake Forest guard Brittany Waters scored a career-high 24 points to lead the way for the Demon Deacons. Alex Tchangoue and Secily Ray also scored in double figures for Wake Forest as the duo finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Earlier this year, Ole Miss claimed the Winthrop Hilton Garden Inn Classic championship with consecutive wins over North Carolina A&T and Davidson to open the year with a tournament title. The 92 points scored by the Rebels was the highest scoring output of the season and the most since Ole Miss defeated Fordham 99-43 Dec. 30, 2006. Ole Miss also finished shooting 51.5 percent from the field to mark the fourth time this season the Rebels have shot over 50 percent. Ole Miss (9-4) poured in 56.5 percent of its scoring output from inside the paint as the Rebels finished the game with 52 points in the paint. It was the ninth time this season Ole Miss has registered more points in the paint than its opponent. Using a distinct size advantage, the Rebels pulled down 49 rebounds and limited Northwestern State to just 29. In fact, Ole Miss grabbed 22 offensive boards and turned those opportunities into 29 second chance points. Ole Miss junior Katorra Lewis turned in her best performance as a Rebel as she set career-highs in points, rebounds and steals. The Clinton, Miss., native finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds, including seven offensive boards, and four steals in just 22 minutes of work. Ole Miss (10-4) defeated Northwestern State and Rice on consecutive days to capture the title. The Rebels dominated both teams over the course of the event and won by an average of 30.5 points per game. The Rebels improve to 36-2 all-time in their own tournaments, and have now won 12 consecutive games of the sort. Fellow guard Maudess Fulton finished in double figures with 11 points and was named to the all-tournament team. The Rebels used a suffocating defensive effort in limiting Rice to just 27.0 percent shooting from the field. In fact, Ole Miss held Rice to single digits in field goals in both the first and second halves. In addition to the cold shooting, Rice finished the game with 26 turnovers and allowed the Rebels to turn those miscues into 36 points. Ole Miss also held a 38-16 advantage in points in the paint. Ole Miss opened the contest hot out of the gate and opened up an early 8-3 lead just over a minute into the game. The two teams went back-and-forth over the next five minutes as neither team held more than an eight point advantage. Thomas continued her hot shooting in the second half by putting Ole Miss ahead for the first time since the 7:02 mark of the first half by sinking a three-pointer just 16 seconds into the period. Old Dominion immediately grabbed the lead back on the following play on a jumper from Walters, and the Lady Monarchs would go on to build a seven-point lead over the next eight minutes. That lead didn’t last long, however, as Jaleesa Rhoden hit a three-pointer seconds before halftime to send the Lady Bulldogs into halftime down by just two points. Ole Miss (12-4, 1-0 SEC) got a quick basket from Goff on the opening possession of the second half to extend its lead up to four points at 32-28. Georgia continued to chip away at the Ole Miss lead, but the Rebels answered every basket from the Lady Bulldogs with a bucket of their own. Rebel senior Shawn Goff put Ole Miss ahead by that 16-point margin following an offensive rebound off a missed jumper from Kayla Melson. Goff controlled the offensive board and fought her way through traffic to sink a layup and draw a foul. From that point on, however, Mississippi State used a 25-4 run over the final 9:07 on its way to its first SEC victory of the season. Lady Bulldog junior Alexis Rack scored 17 points during the run which included three 3-pointers. Rack finished the game with 19 points after scoring just two in the first half. Rebel junior guard Bianca Thomas led all scorers as she finished with a career-high 25 points on nine made field goals. Ole Miss improves to 700-357 all-time and is one of just five schools in the Southeastern Conference to reach the 700-win plateau. Only Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn and LSU have recorded more all-time victories than the Rebels. The Rebels have now defeated Alabama eight straight times and have held the Crimson Tide under 50 points in four of those games. In addition, it was the seventh opponent this season that Ole Miss has held to 50 points or less. Ole Miss (13-5, 2-1 SEC) used its customary pressure defense to force Alabama into 28 turnovers and capitalized by turning those miscues into 34 points. The Rebels also held Alabama leading scorer Tierney Jenkins to zero points and just two shots from the field. Jenkins entered the contest averaging 11.6 points per game. Sophomore Alliesha Easley paced Ole Miss on the offensive end as she scored a game-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds to highlight a trio of Rebels in double figures. Dickerson surpassed her previous career-high of 27 points she set a season ago against Virginia. She entered Thursday’s game averaging just 12.9 points this season and had scored no more than 20 points in any game this season. Rebel guard Shantell Black turned in a career night of her own as she finished with a career-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Bianca Thomas added 14 points and four rebounds, while Shawn Goff chipped in with 10 points and three blocked shots. Goff needs just eight more rejections to become the school’s all-time leader. South Carolina (9-9, 1-4 SEC) used a 15-5 run over a six minute stretch towards the end of the first half to open up a 3020 advantage with just under two minutes remaining. The Rebels managed to cut the Gamecock deficit to seven points with 12 seconds left on the clock following a jumper in the lane from Black. Black’s basket proved to be too quick as South Carolina guard Courtney Newton took just a few steps over the half court line and heaved a three-pointer that found its way into the bottom of the net to propel the Gamecocks ahead by 10 points at halftime. Goff needs just two points to become the 22nd player in school history to score 1,000 points. Dotson scored the first nine points of the game for Florida to help the Gators jump out to an early 9-4 lead. Shantell Black hit a 3 with 1:16 left to give the Rebels (138, 2-4 Southeastern Conference) a 59-54 lead, but Tennessee (16-4, 5-2) scored the final six points. Tennessee's Glory Johnson, who went 4-of-11 from the free-throw line, hit one of two charity shots after being fouled by Kayla Holloway. Black was called for traveling, and Bjorklund hit a jumper with 1:03 left to cut the margin to 59-57. Black then missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 20 seconds left. Alex Fuller grabbed the rebound and charged down court. She found Bjorklund, who calmly pulled up and knocked down the winning basket. Goff upped her career total to 195 blocks to surpass the previous school record of 194 held by Eugenia Conner since 1985. DeWanna Bonner scored 23 points and Whitney Boddie had two free throws and a layup late to help lift AU to victory. Boddie was 2-of-4 from the line and had a steal and layup in the final 1:10 to help the Tigers (22-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) survive after losing a 12-point lead. Boddie also flirted with a triple-double, finishing with eight points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. The Tigers appeared poised to take control, riding an 18-3 run to a 55-43 lead with 11 minutes left. But Bianca Thomas hit three 3-pointers and a pair of free throws during a 14-2 run that tied the game at 57. Thomas had a career-high 28 points -- 21 in the second half -- and hit five 3-pointers. The Rebels (14-9, 3-5) had won four of the last five meetings and two straight at Auburn. South Carolina guard Lakeisha Sutton converted two free throws with 11 seconds left to give the Gamecocks a 65-64 lead after Robertson committed a foul to put Sutton on the line. It was the first lead for South Carolina since the 16:04 mark of the first half. Rebel guard Shantell Black took the ensuing inbounds pass for Ole Miss and raced across half court to the top of the key. Black continued to dribble around the key and into the corner where three Gamecocks quickly converged on her. Black leaped in the air and found a wide open Robertson in the paint for the game-winning layup. Ole Miss (15-9, 4-5 SEC) held a 60-53 lead with just over three minutes remaining after Kayla Melson raced in for an uncontested layup following a steal at half court by Bianca Thomas. South Carolina guards Lauren Falohun and Samone Kennedy scored back-to-back buckets for the Gamecocks in a span of 10 seconds to trim the Rebel lead to 62-59 with 2:46 left on the clock. Sutton struck again just over 20 seconds later with a jumper in the paint to pull South Carolina within one point at 62-61. Robertson hit two big free throws for the Rebels at the 1:54 mark to extend the lead back to three points at 64-61. The score remained the same until Sutton hit a jump shot with 18 seconds to play to leave the Gamecocks trailing 64-63. The Rebels inbounded the ball to Black in the corner. Black appeared to shoulder off her defenders in an attempt to run the clock out or draw a foul. The Gamecocks, however, forced Black into a turnover, which resulted in the aforementioned foul by Robertson. It was the first conference road win of the season for Ole Miss, and the first time the Rebels have won in Columbia since 2004. Thomas finished with a game-high 20 points to mark her third straight game in which she has scored at least 20 points. The Henderson, Tenn., native also finished with a career-high nine rebounds to go along with three assists and four steals. Robertson also scored in double figures as she added 13 points and was 3-for-7 from three-point range. Sutton collected 19 points and seven assists to lead a quartet of Gamecocks in double figures. Courtney Newton scored 12 points, while Tonia Williams and Jewel May finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Ole Miss forced South Carolina into 20 turnovers and scored 22 points off those miscues. It was the 13th time this season the Rebels forced their opponent into 20 or more turnovers. South Carolina jumped out to an early 7-2 lead over the first 3:24 of the game, but Ole Miss scored its first six field goals of the game via three-point shots to open up a 20-9 lead midway through the half. Junior Bianca Thomas scored 13 points and pulled down four rebounds, while Shantell Black added 11 points and six assists. Black has dished out five or more assists in each of her last five games. Mississippi State guard Alexis Rack scored 21 points to lead all scorers. Robin Porter pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to pace the Lady Bulldogs. MSU (19-6, 6-4 SEC) created easy scoring opportunities off of Rebel turnovers and held a 17-0 advantage in fast break points. The Lady Bulldogs also pulled down 20 offensive rebounds and capitalized with 18 second chance points. The Lady Bulldogs used a strong defensive effort in the first half to limit Ole Miss to just six field goals. In fact, the Rebels had only two field goals over the final 13:31 of the opening stanza. Shawn Goff cut the Arkansas deficit to five points at 58-53 with 4:21 left to play with a layup in the lane. Goff sealed off her defender in the paint and took the entry pass from Shantell Black before turning and scoring with her right hand. Ole Miss (15-11, 4-7 SEC) appeared to have a defensive stop on the ensuing Arkansas possession as the Rebels deflected the ball out of bounds near midcourt with only four seconds on the shot clock. Unfortunately for Ole Miss, the deflection occurred with just under four minutes to play, allowing the Razorbacks to draw up a play via the media timeout. Charity Ford inbounded the ball to Ceira Ricketts at the top of the key. Ricketts in turn fired the ball directly back to Ford who had positioned herself just outside the threepoint line. Ford’s three-point attempt with one second left on the shot clock found the bottom of the basket and upped the Razorback lead back to eight points with 3:48 left to play. Sophomore Kayla Melson scored a season-high 15 points to lead the Rebel offensive attack. Shawn Goff fell one rebound shy of a double-double as she finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Goff also tallied two blocked shots and is just two rejections shy of 200 for her career. She would become only the 15th player in SEC history to record 200 or more career blocked shots. Bianca Thomas added 13 points of her own, which include two more three-pointers. Thomas needs just six more treys to move into fourth place all-time on the Ole Miss single season list. Ford finished with a game-high 17 points, and was 3for-4 from three-point range. Ricketts chipped in with 13 points and was the only other Razorback in double figures. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for Ole Miss over the Razorbacks. It was the first victory for Arkansas over the Rebels since 2004. Bianca Thomas finished with a game-high 26 points to mark her seventh game this season in which she has scored 20 or more points. Shawn Goff recorded her fourth double-double of the season by collecting 12 points and 10 rebounds. Goff also added three blocked shots to up her career total to 201 rejections to become only the 15th player in SEC history to amass 200 or more career blocked shots. Ole Miss (15-12, 4-8 SEC) used a 8-4 run to open the second half to climb within two points of the Crimson Tide just over five minutes into play. Alabama quickly answered with five straight points to increase its lead to seven points at 44-37 midway through the half. The Rebels used an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to take their first and only lead of the second half on a layup from Thomas. Ericka Russell hit a three-pointer for Alabama on the ensuing possession to give the Crimson Tide the lead right back. Ole Miss managed to tie the game on one occasion and fight to within one point two other times, but the Crimson Tide failed to surrender the lead over the last nine minutes. Thomas got Ole Miss within a point with 3:46 left to play on a layup, but Russell hit another three-pointer on the other end to stretch the Crimson Tide lead back to four points. Goff and Thomas combined to score 12 of the first 17 points for Ole Miss to help the Rebels jump out to a 17-6 lead six minutes into the game. Ole Miss (16-12, 5-8 SEC) took a 69-66 lead with 43 seconds left on the clock after Bianca Thomas hit a pair of free throws. Meredith Marsh missed a three-point attempt on the ensuing possession, and Ole Miss secured the rebound and was immediately fouled. The Rebels failed to increase their lead by missing two free throws, leaving the door open for a Vanderbilt comeback. Marsh redeemed herself from her earlier miss by evening the score at 69-69 with a three-pointer in the corner with 12 seconds remaining. Melson took the inbounds pass and raced down the floor for her only two points of the game. The Commodores appeared to send the game into overtime on the following play as Rhoads hit a jumper at the top of the key as time expired. The basket was originally counted by the officiating crew, but after further review was deemed no good. It was the first victory for Ole Miss over a ranked team since the Rebels defeated No. 20 Arkansas 63-55 last season. The Lady Tigers took their largest lead of the game with just over nine minutes to play following a layup from Courtney Jones. The Rebels answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to climb within seven points with six minutes on the clock. Allison Hightower ended the run on the ensuing LSU possession with a tough leaner from the baseline with the shot clock nearing zero. The Lady Tigers scored six quick points thereafter and increased their lead to 13 points at 55-42 with 3:31 remaining. Ole Miss (16-13, 5-9 SEC) used one final late run to crawl within eight points, but LSU went 3-for-4 from the free throw line over the final minute to earn its fifth straight victory. Her scoring output tied former Ole Miss great Tarsha Bethley for the second-most points scored in an SEC Tournament game in school history. Bethley tallied 31 points against Georgia during the 1998 tournament. Thomas finished 6-for-10 from the three-point throw line to etch her name into two different Ole Miss record books. Her six treys tied the school record for most three-pointers in a single SEC Tournament game, and she now holds the school record for most three-pointers in a single season with 66. Arkansas took its only lead of the second half with 8:46 remaining after Ricketts raced to the glass and converted a transition layup. The Rebels immediately regained the lead on the ensuing possession on a jump shot just inside the free throw line from Shawn Goff. Alliesha Easley pushed the Ole Miss lead to three points following a pair of free throws, but Lyndsay Harris hit a desperation three-pointer on the other end with the shot clock nearing zero to even the score at 50-50 with just over seven minutes to play. Ole Miss responded with a 5-0 run following baskets from Black and Thomas to up its lead to 55-50 with five minutes left to play. The Razorbacks managed to cut the lead to three points on five different occasions over the final five minutes, but Ole answered with points every time. Ricketts hit a jumper with 20 seconds to play to cut the lead to three points at 61-58, and the Razorbacks immediately fouled Thomas after the bucket. Thomas, who entered the game as the top free throw shooter in the SEC, missed both free throws. Goff, however, secured the rebound and quickly passed the ball back into the hands of Thomas. Thomas missed a third straight free throw, but hit the next opportunity to put Ole Miss ahead by four points with 17 seconds on the clock. The Razorbacks turned the ball over on the next possession, and Shantell Black went 3-for-4 from the free throw line over the final 10 seconds to secure the win for the Rebels. Ole Miss has advanced to at least the second round of the SEC Tournament for six straight seasons. Ole Miss (17-14) rallied within 66-63 in the final minute, but Whitney Boddie sank a baseline shot to push the lead back to five. Shantell Black's driving layup made it 68-65, but Bonner was fouled and made two free throws with 19.7 seconds left. Elizabeth Robertson missed a 3-pointer at the other end for the Rebels. Shawn Goff scored 17 of her career-high 25 points in the first half for Ole Miss. Goff also pulled down 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. "Shawn knew going in this game that Bianca Thomas was going to be shut down," Ole Miss head coach Renee Ladner said. "That either works on your psyche one way or the other, and today she stepped up." The Rebels fell behind 10-2 early but managed to stay in the game for most of the half against the tournament's top seed. Auburn led 35-29 at intermission. Ole Miss never had an answer for SEC Player of the Year DeWanna Bonner, who opened the scoring by sinking a 3pointer from the top of the key. Then she knocked away a pass to start a fast break and, later in the first half, was fouled twice in a row on fast breaks. After the second foul sent her sprawling to the floor next to the Ole Miss cheerleaders, Bonner got up shaking her left hand in a bit of pain. Auburn coach Nell Fortner came out to midcourt along the sideline to argue when the play was not ruled an intentional foul, but Bonner didn't seem overly bothered. She finished the half with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Bonner finished with 32 points and 13 points, while Boddie flirted with a triple-double with 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Ole Miss' Bianca Thomas, who scored 31 points in Thursday's win over Arkansas, was held to 12. She impressed the crowd with a nifty behind-the-back move on a fast break in the second half, but Auburn still led 55-42 after that basket. "That was the plan -- it was to absolutely smother her as best we could," Auburn head coach Nell Fortner said. "She's just a player that can change a whole game in about two minutes." Black nearly collected her third double-double of the season, but fell one point shy as she finished with nine points and 10 assists. It was her fourth game this season in which she has tallied double-digit assists. Goff registered her sixth double-double of the season and second in as many games in what figures to be her last game at Tad Smith Coliseum. Bianca Thomas finished with 16 points and tied a careerhigh with nine rebounds, while Shantell Black added 15 points and six assists. Elizabeth Robertson rounded out a quartet of Rebels in double figures with 12 points, finishing the contest a perfect 3-for-3 from three point range. Amber Guffy led the way for Murray State by scoring a game-high 22 points. The Rebel defense held Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year Ashley Hayes to just 13 points. Hayes finished 5-for-24 from the field, 0-for-8 from threepoint range and 10 points under her season average. Ole Miss raced to an early 10-point lead over the first six minutes of the game as Goff scored nine of the first 14 Rebel points. Goff, who was overwhelming in the post against the Murray State front line, helped Ole Miss hold a 38-16 edge in points in the paint. The Rebels increased their lead to 18 points midway through the first half as Ole Miss used an 11-0 run over a span of 1:38. Robertson highlighted the stretch by hitting three-pointers to open and close the run. Goff put the Rebels ahead by 20 points heading into halftime as she hit an uncontested layup following a feed in the lane from a driving Black. Ole Miss finished the game with 19 assists, while holding Murray State to only six. Rebel guard Kayla Melson added eight assists of her own and finished with two more helpers than the entire Racer team. Ole Miss continued to extend its lead into the second half and held the Racers under 30 points until the 12:28 mark of the stanza. It was the eighth time this season Ole Miss has held an opponent to 50 points or less. Robertson gave the Rebels a 30-point lead with a free throw midway through the half, and Ole Miss would lead by at least that margin for the remainder of the game. Freshman guard Whitney Hameth capped the contest for the Rebels by hitting her first career three-pointer with 48 seconds left to play to lift Ole Miss to a 38-point margin of victory.
