ROBERT McKEE STORY SEMINAR Thursday May 8 to Sunday May 11 2014 OBA in Amsterdam INTRODUCTION For the first *me, the famous ‘Story’ seminar will be presented by Robert McKee in Amsterdam. This 32-‐hour course involves four days’ discussion of the essence of wri*ng and storytelling, presented by one lecturer. These four intensive days will be full of new insights, knowledge and inspira*on. PARTICIPANTS In total 260 par*cipants will be at the seminar, coming mostly from the Netherlands and Belgium. The aMendees are a mixture of screenwriters, writers, film editors, theatre and film directors, producers, actors, camera operators, crea*ve and art directors, film academy students, editors in chief and anyone else who wants to know more about the art of storytelling. This seminar will not just enhance your understanding of the subject maMer, it will also be a great opportunity to expand your network. VENUE Theater room of the Openbare Bibliotheek in Amsterdam (OBA) Oosterdokskade 143 (7th floor), 1011 DL AMSTERDAM The S&ch&ng Openbare Bibliotheken Amsterdam (OBA) is a cultural ins&tute that aims to encourage open exchanges of informa&on throughout the Amsterdam community. With a floor area of 28,000m², the Centrale Bibliotheek on the Oosterdokseiland is the largest library in the Netherlands. This building opened its doors to the public on July 7 2007 and was designed by Jo Coenen. How to get there and parking Please click here for the route descrip*on for cars. OBA can easily be reached by public transport. You can take any of the metro lines, trams or buses that terminate at Amsterdam Central Sta*on. It is about a 10-‐minute walk from the sta*on: Take the exit to the center, turn le_ (in an eastern direc*on) and follow the signs to Oosterdok. Walk past the Double Tree Hotel and keep following the path un*l you reach OBA. You can also reach OBA via the City Center Line. This bus stops right outside OBA every half hour. Just past OBA is the entrance to an underground 24h secure bicycle-‐park. There is space for over 2000 bikes and it is free. Located under Oosterdokseiland is the Oosterdok car park. It is open all week 24 hours a day and is only a few minutes’ walk from OBA. The Oosterdok car park has 1355 parking spots and a_er your fi_h hour you pay a flat rate of just €10. You must have this pass to access to the seminar. Please wear your pass at all *mes. OBA is a public venue and without this pass you cannot enter the theater room. RULES AND PREPERATION During the seminar, it is very important that we show our respect to the speaker. Therefore we have to follow these rules: * Cell phones may not be used in the theater room. * Laptops, iPads and other tablets are allowed in the theater room. If you choose to use one, we kindly ask you to take a seat at the back so your computer screen does not distract others. * Any kind of recording of the seminar is forbidden. * Food and drink (except for boMles of water) are not allowed in the theater room. 2 The following is a list of films Robert McKee refers to during the STORY SEMINAR. You will receive details about this during the seminar. * All drinks served during the seminar are included and paid for by the organiza*on. * You have to take care of your own lunch. In the coming weeks we will send you a list of recommended lunch spots close to OBA. * We will arrange a celebratory dinner at the Sea Palace floa*ng Chinese restaurant across from OBA to be held on Sunday May 11, following the closing social in OBA. This 3-‐course dinner includes 4 drinks and will cost €50 per person. If you would like to aMend this dinner, please confirm before Friday May 2 by sending an email to [email protected]. 3 CANCELLATION If you want to cancel your registra*on, a fee of €95 is charged. If cancelled up to 21 days prior to the start of the seminar, the cancella*on fee will be 50% of the registra*on fee. If cancelled within 7 days or in the case of a no-‐show without cancella*on, 100% of the registra*on fee will be charged. The cancella*on period will be determined by the date of the email. Your *cket can be transferred to someone else, provided that the organiza*on is informed and agrees with this. In that case, no cancella*on fee will be charged. If for any reason the seminar cannot take place or is postponed, you will be informed of this at least 14 days prior to the start of the seminar. If the seminar is cancelled by the organiza*on, all registered par*cipants will get back their fee.
