Butchart Gardens/Chemainus (May 24-26)
Butchart Gardens/Chemainus (May 24-26)
$370 Double/$530 Single
This is a great opportunity to visit Butchart Gardens in the Spring; I was there at Christmas, which was
beautiful with the lights, but I am anxious to see the colors this time of year. The Shipley bus will head over to
Victoria on the 8:15 Coho Tuesday, May 24th. We’ll go directly to Butchart Gardens for the day. There will be
plenty of time to have lunch at the gardens, as well as tour the grounds. We will leave the Gardens around
5:00 and head over to the Sidney Pier Hotel and Spa, where you can have a bite to eat, enjoy their spa
amenities, and mill around.
In the morning after breakfast, we will board the bus for the trip to the town of Chemainus. Chemainus itself is
world renowned for its outdoor murals and is noted as an unhurried town where strolling leisurely with an ice
cream cone is a way of life. Footprints will lead you from mural to mural with time to browse unique shops,
restaurants, parks, outdoor concerts, a peace pole, communities in bloom floral projects, a waterwheel and
much more. Indoor tours are offered at the Chemainus Valley Museum, and the mill.
That evening, Wednesday, we will go to The Dinner Theatre, presenting the comedy, “Harvey”. Elwood P.
Dowd is unlike anyone you’ve ever met. He insists on introducing his friend Harvey to everyone around town –
trouble is, Harvey is an invisible six-foot-tall rabbit. Such eccentric behavior embarrasses his social-climbing
sister, who arranges a trip to the sanitarium where an injection will “cure” Elwood. This comedy of errors will
make you laugh, and wonder: does the world need another normal chap, or more ‘Harveys’?
We will stay at the Best Western PLUS Chemainus Inn that night, and after your complimentary breakfast
Thursday morning, you can check out the town and murals before we get back on the bus at noon and head to
Victoria to get on the 3:00 ferry back to Port Angeles.

Waterfalls, Whales and Wildcards!
August 23-26, 2016
Last year, our Mountain to Sea Adventure included a picnic at Mt Baker. This
year, we are changing it up a bit, checking out the awesome waterfalls and ship travel
the Pacific Northwest has to offer!
The trip starts on Tuesday, August 23rd. Leaving Shipley Center at 9:30 am, we’ll
stop for lunch (on your own) at Max Dale’s Steakhouse in Mt Vernon. Arriving around
3:15 pm at the Silver Reef Casino and Spa, we will be greeted by the hotel’s Group
Coordinator who will get us situated with our rooms and meals, and answer any
questions we might have.
Wednesday, we will enjoy Whatcom Falls Park; perfect for an August day. We
will take packed lunches with us as we walk the trails and beautiful bridges to the falls.
Bring your camera, a book, or just enjoy the scenery. You will find historical information
to read, and there are several points of interest along the way.
Returning to Silver Reef Casino and Spa, you will be free to enjoy the hotel’s
amenities or play at the casino. For dinner, you have a choice of several different
restaurants at the casino.
Thursday is an all-day event. A 20-25-minute drive will take us to the dock where
we will board a San Juan Cruises vessel at 9:30 am. On our cruise to Friday Harbor,
the Captain will share interesting information about the San Juan Islands as we enjoy a
delicious Northwest wild salmon and barbeque chicken buffet lunch on the ship. At
Friday Harbor, we will explore the town for a few hours before boarding the ship for our
return trip to Bellingham. While not guaranteed, there is a good chance we will spot
some whales while out on the water! Leaving the pier around 5:30, we return to Silver
Reef for our final overnight.
Then, Friday, it’s back to Sequim, arriving about 4:30 pm!

How lucky we are to live so close to Canada! This trip will take us to Whistler,
where we will try a few new adventures. Let’s see what our northern neighbors can
share with us!
The trip starts on Tuesday, July 26th. Leaving Shipley Center around 9:30 am,
we’ll stop for lunch (on your own) probably at Max Dale’s Steakhouse in Mt Vernon. We

dinner, on your own.
Wednesday, enjoy the town, visit shops, take a ride on the Gondola if you like. In
the evening we will get together for one of the Whistler Tasting Tours: “Hidden Gems”.
You will visit 3 restaurants, tasting a bit from each place, the last, of course being
dessert.
Thursday, if you’d like, we’ll be on a rafting trip at 1:00 p.m. on the Green River: If
you are not up to this activity, you can spend some time in town, or take the Gondola to
the Twin Peaks, on your own. Rafting is not recommended for anyone with back
injuries. Dinner is on your own Thursday night.
Friday, it’s back to Sequim, arriving about 5:00 pm!
