Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Dear Parishioners,
This is a very busy time here at St.
Zechariah 12: 10-11, 13: 1
Psalm 63
Galatians 3: 26-29
Luke 9: 18-24
Bede Parish! Last Wednesday we graduated a class of 50 eighth graders from
St. Katharine Drexel School. We are
proud of their accomplishments, their
Rev. Monsignor
many scholarships, and most especially
John C. Marine
their example of Christian leadership
which they have left behind to our younger students. I personally know them from being involved with them during
the three months of rehearsals for our Passion Play. They are
one of the main reasons why I believe in and support a parish school.
But it is also the week we say farewell to Fr. Sean
Loomis, who has served our parish so well during these past
three years. God has blessed Father with many gifts, and he
has used them so effectively and generously with all of us.
We thank him and promise him our prayers as he embarks
on the next chapter of his priestly life.
At the same time, we prepare to welcome Fr. Thomas
O'Donald, who will be arriving at our parish on Monday
June 20. He comes just in time to "roll up his sleeves" and
get to work with our Padre Pio Festival, his first weekend
here.
I want to thank all of you for your support of our efforts
to defeat Pennsylvania State House Bill 1947, which
among other things, extends the civil statute of limitations
for child sex abuse cases from 30 to 50 years of age. It was
encouraging to see how many of you took postcards to send
to our state senators, and to hear your promise that you
would also call them as well. If you forgot to contact them
last week, please do so as soon as possible this week. I had a
25-minute conversation with Senator "Tommy" Tomlinson, that was very cordial and open. I was pleased that he
returned my call, and reassured me he will keep me informed. I encourage you to call and write our legislators, but
as Christians to do so with the respect their office deserves.
Finally, we all feel the excitement growing as we come to
the two-week mark before our first ever Padre Pio Festival.
We are hearing that many people are coming from the area
and beyond, and some from as far away as Ontario, Canada
and Tampa, Florida! I am happy to announce that Domestic
Church Media, that sponsors Catholic radio stations in the
tri-state area, will be doing a live radio broadcast of our
Padre Pio 12:30pm Mass that day. These are special days
and weeks here at St. Bede's!
Two weeks after we heard the people acclaim Jesus as a
prophet, we hear Jesus asking the disciples who they think
He is. Of course, He has His own answer ready: He is the
one who must suffer, die, and rise from the dead. The first
reading, describing “him whom they have pierced,” prepares
us to hear the message that Jesus has today, that the Messiah
must suffer, and we who follow this suffering Messiah must
be prepared to suffer as well.

Adoration Society
MEETING THIS WEEK!
St. Bede’s Women’s Club
Wednesday, June 15, 2016
7pm - 9pm
CAFETERIA
Come to the Chapel ASAP (Always Stop And Pray)
S
ome people may want to join the Adoration Society but
feel that they cannot commit to an hour every week. Why not
consider becoming a prayer partner? This commitment is
usually two times a month instead of every week. It is a great
way to get involved and join the Adoration Society without a
weekly commitment.
Our current prayer partner hours of need are as follows:
Sunday 3PM, Monday 10AM & 1PM, Wednesday 3AM &
6AM, Thursday 4AM, Friday 4AM and Saturday 11PM.
Our ultimate goal is to have two adorers for every hour so if
these hours are impossible for you due to your schedule, please
contact us to arrange a more convenient time. We can accommodate every schedule.
For more information about perpetual adoration please contact Debbie & Sean McDermott at 215-504-9897 or e-mail us
at [email protected].
Everyone is invited. Everyone is needed!
We will be having a light Summer Pot Luck Dinner. Bring
things like light summer salads, light summer picnic foods (hor
d’oeuvres), and desserts. It has been a good year for the Women’s club and it will be fun to enjoy a light meal with our
friends and talk with our new co-chairwomen about ideas and
plans for the 2016/2017 year. Bring a new member with you.
We will also be talking about our Radio City Music Hall trip on
Nov. 17th.We still have room if you are interested in going. The cost is $113.00. Email or call Mary DeHaven
([email protected] / 215-840-5050) for more details.
The Eucharist –

Quotes of Padre Pio during his Life:
“Pray, hope and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your
prayer.”
“Have courage and do not fear the assaults of the Devil. Remember this forever;
it is a healthy sign if the devil shouts and roars around your conscience, since this shows
that he is not inside your will.”
“My past, O Lord, to Your mercy; my present, to Your love;
my future to Your providence.”
“Joy, with peace, is the sister of charity. Serve the Lord with laughter.”
“The life of a Christian is nothing but a perpetual struggle against self; there is
no flowering of the soul to the beauty of its perfection except at the price of pain.”

Religious Education
Dear Parishioners,
Mark your calendars. Our parish
community will offer an RCIA Inquiry
Session on Thursday - September 1 in the Drexel Center at 7:00 p.m. to
Ms. Carole Obrokta
share information about our RCIA process.
What is the RCIA process? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process established for:
* Persons in need of Baptism
* Persons baptized in another Christian tradition
who desire to become Catholic
* Persons baptized Catholic in need of First
Communion and /or Confirmation.
The RCIA sessions are held on Thursdays (7:00 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m.) in the Drexel Center; participation is free
and implies no commitment to join the Catholic Church.
We simply invite interested adults to learn what the
Church teaches and to meet some of our parish members
who serve in this ministry or have experienced the process. These sessions are also opportunities for you, and
others that you might wish to invite, to ask questions
about Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.
If you would like to talk with me, or with one of our
priests, please feel free to give me a call (215) 357-2130.
Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Let us
keep each other in prayer.
God Bless,
Carole Obrokta
