REFLECTIONS
“ MASTER, I WANT TO SEE.” JESUS TOLD
HIM: ‘GO YOUR WAY; YOUR FAITH HAS
SAVED YOU.’ ” We begin the Year of Faith hearing
an account of ‘faith in action’. Bartimaeus was convinced that Jesus could make a difference in his life. No
one else in his world could effect a change in his blindness. He believed Jesus could, so he set politeness aside
and bellowed out, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on
me.” Jesus cured him, because he ‘believed in Him’.
Believing is holding fast to the truth that a trusted witness/teacher has imparted to you. Believing entails examining every question about your faith, calling upon
the Holy Spirit for guidance, and affirming anew at a
deeper level your free, personal commitment to the revealed reality, and through it all maintaining profound
gratitude for the extraordinary gift that is faith in a loving God.

ALL SOULS DAY, Nov. 2— EVENING MASS @ 7 P.M.
Our evening Mass on All Souls Day will be for all our parishioners and other loved ones who have gone to God this past
year. We will continue the practice of recent years of lighting a
candle for each parishioner and family loved one that we have
lost. Of course, all are invited to attend and participate fully in
praying for our faithful departed. Please contact Sr. Mary Elizabeth if you are a family member of one of our departed and plan
to attend this Mass. (412-661-9425 x13)

For almost a year, Rita, has taken on the added service
to this parish of Bulletin producer. She already tends to
our first-class web site and does the daunting task of
scheduling the use of our different facilities. The Bulletin has become the proverbial ‘straw’ that can break the
back. I have taken over, temporarily, the composition of
the whole bulletin, but I hope to shed this responsibility
ASAP. If you pray and discover that the Holy Spirit
calls you to use your considerable computer skills and
editorial flair for the benefit of this weekly form of communication that is the Bulletin, please give me (Fr.
Bryce) a call.
St. Bede Parish Committee will be holding a
mobile Central Blood Bank Drive on Nov 11,2012. The
hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The need for blood
increases during the Holiday's, which is why we chose to
do this now. It's truly an unselfish act of kindness to others, and you will know that you will have helped to save 3
lives. We are encouraging parishioners to use Face Book
to spread the word ,or any means possible, even word of
mouth. Please engage your family and friends to donate.
For information or help making an appointment please
contact Annie Reck at [email protected],
or Melissa Schuetz at [email protected] . We
truly appreciate your cooperation with us and look forward to seeing you on November 11! You can make an
appointment for Sunday November 11 by going to
www.centralbloodbank.org click make an appointment,
under new donors choose click here for a quick search of
donor centers and mobile drives, then choose search mobile drive locations, then choose group name search, then
choose church drives, page through the list until you find
Saint Bede and then click on the date and follow the
prompts. You can also search with sponsor code

Parish Directory Update: We have received a
proof of the directory and are very excited about the results. Thanks to the commitment of many volunteers, the
Lifetouch professionals and the 300 families and individuals that are pictured, this has been a very successful project. Directories should be received sometime in early
November and will be distributed after masses.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word Service
Project – Operation Christmas Child col-
Oakland Catholic High School will hold its
annual Open House for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls on
Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 12:00pm until 3:00pm.
Come tour our campus, meet our students, talk to our
teachers, and discover why Oakland Catholic is the best
option for your high school experience! This day is designed to provide a wealth of information to prospective
families and their daughters. Tours are conducted
throughout the afternoon, but we recommend you arrive
earlier rather than later in order to have enough time to
adequately acquaint yourself with the academic departments, the extracurricular offerings, the financial aid process, the Administration, and OC students themselves. .
For additional information please visit our website http://
www.oaklandcatholic.org/ or contact the Admissions Director at [email protected]
NOVEMBER FIRST FRIDAY is November 2, ALL
SOULS DAY. Traditionally, it is a day that we pray for
our deceased loved ones. What a perfect day to have
ALL DAY ADORATION! Adorers can spend time before the Blessed Sacrament praying for their loved ones,
living and dead. We have been fortunate to have people
sign for ½ hour or more from 2:30-7:00 p.m. The closing
Benediction will be at 6:45 p.m. followed by a special
Mass for the departed at 7:00 p.m. Please sign the paper
on the board in the back of Church to make sure there is
always someone present.
FIRST SATURDAY is November 3. Join other parishioners before the 9:00 a.m. Mass to recite the rosary and
pray for peace and in Thanksgiving for the many blessings received.
lects and donates gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children
which individuals, churches, and groups in the United
States and around the world prepare and collect. The
shoeboxes are sent to children in over 100 countries in
Asia, Africa, and South America. Brochures with information about how to fill and donate a shoebox are located
at the back of the church. More information is available
at . Although this service project was chosen to allow the
children of St Bede the opportunity to learn to work together with others and serve those in need, all parishioners are welcome to participate. Please contact Carolyn
Weber at 412-521-1748 or for further information. Specific instructions are available on the Saint Bede web site.
APPALACHIAN CLOTHING DRIVE: Students
will distribute Boxes for the Appalachian Clothing
Drive beginning November 1st. Boxes will also be
available at the weekend Masses the following weekends. It is very IMPORTANT that you check the
items needed list printed in the bulletin last week and
on the website. The list includes items we have not
sent in the past. If you have any of these items, you
are encouraged to try to pack them in boxes. If they
are bigger than the box, the “truck packers” will have
a challenging job but we are aiming to send what is
needed! Please do not drop off boxes until the DROP
OFF DATES are announced.
*****
NEEDED: Transportation for a parishioner who lives on
Lloyd Street for weekend Mass, any Mass but 8:00 a.m
Sunday. Please call Angie McVeagh 412-241-6567 for
details.

career prior to receiving posthumously the Bronze Star and
the Purple Heart, Major Kennedy leaves behind not only
his parents and siblings but also his wife, Kami, and twin
