I
f you haven’t been to Nike Park in awhile, it’s time to come back and
check it out. Our newly renovated spaces at Nike Park will be home
to new classes in Fit Mix, Zumba, and dog obedience. The newly
renovated Recreation Hall is also available to host your parties and
receptions. The Nike Park Fishing Pier damaged in Hurricane Irene is
now re-opened as well. Coming soon we will begin construction on our
new concrete skate park.
This September, the place to be will be the Isle of Wight County Fair. For
an $8 admission, you will get national entertainment like Uncle Kracker,
Carbon Leaf, and local and regional entertainment like the Deloreans,
Slap Nation, Broke By Sunday and much more. Add in the motorsports,
livestock, ag exhibits, a first class midway, an agriculture education
show, a tiger show and a animal menagerie show…..that’s a value you
cannot beat! You will probably need to plan on coming back a second
day just to see everything.

While the County Fair is the largest special event in the County, the
Department of Parks and Recreation also offers other park events,
youth and adult athletics, and classes. We manage a skating rink in the
Southern portion of the County, three district parks, three boat ramps,
two beaches, and two historical forts. Information on these wonderful
programs and facilities is contained in this guide. Whatever your plans
are for the fall and winter, make sure you take time out to recreate.

Description: Come to Carrollton Nike Park to meet new people, and
stay in shape at the same time! This class begins with warm up exercises to get your heart rate up, and gain flexibility. Then we cool down with
low-impact dance, and exercise moves (standing or sitting in a chair).
Participate at a level and pace that is comfortable for you. Experienced
and inexperienced participants are welcome! Classes meet on Monday
and Wednesday mornings

Description: Mixed Martial Arts combines the striking found in Kickboxing, Karate, and Tae Kwon Do, with the ground fighting and submissions found in Jujitsu, Judo, and Aikido. Hapkido is Korean traditional
mixed martial arts as well as the history, philosophy and terminology of
traditional martial arts. These classes improve physical fitness, endurance, flexibility, concentration, respect and humility in students while
at the same time teaches valuable self defense and sport applications.

Description: MiniKickers is a NEW
and EXCITING program focusing
on the development of children
aged 2 – 5 years old. Our soccer
experts and child development
professionals have designed an
innovative curriculum that introduces your young soccer stars to
the basic skills needed in soccer as
well as developing their motor, social,
and psychological skills. Our British
coaches are experts at working with young
children and will combine soccer with fun games; stories and music
that keeps your children entertained and enthused to return next week.

Volunteer Coaches Needed
Are you interested in making a
difference in a child’s life? Then
why not become a Volunteer
coach for youth athletics! The
rewards are endless! If you are
not able to be a head coach, we are always
looking for assistant coaches. All you will be
required to do is attend 1 coaches certification training, conduct a practice once a week, attend a game on
Saturdays and most important HAVE FUN. Being a volunteer coach is
also a great way of staying involved with your child’s activities and to give
back to your community. For more information on coaching youth sports

Cost: $125 (if adopted from IOW Animal Shelter $100)
Description: Do you have a new puppy that needs training to become
a Canine Good Citizen, or an old dog that wants to learn new tricks?
Bring them out to Carrollton Nike Park on Sunday afternoons, and
Thursday evenings for a six week fun filled learning experience for both
you and your dog. You along with your pet will learn from a certified
evaluator for Therapy Dog International and Canine Good Citizens. All
dogs must be at least six months old, and up-to-date on all shots.

added $10 to each participant’s registration.

Description: You can register for this program online, call the office at
757-357-2291, or come by either Carrollton Nike Park office or Otilia J.
Rainey Community Center at Camptown Park. NOTE: If there is one day
that your child will not be able to practice, please write the day in the
“Customer Notes” at the time of registration. We will try to accommodate this request, but this will not guaranteed. If this is not noted please
notify the office prior to November

Ages: 6-13 years old
Description: Interested in Cheering? Come join our team! Learn basic
stunts and cheers, and cheer for Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation youth basketball teams. There is a parent meeting on November
19, 2014 at 6:00pm in the Carrollton Nike Park Recreation Hall. You
must bring your child to this meeting to try on uniform sample. Once
uniforms are ordered we cannot change the size. If you cannot attend
the meeting, please make arrangements with Parks and Recreation staff
to set up a time for your child to try on a sample.
Adult Sports
Program: Adult Men’s Fall Softball
Registration Dates: June 6-July 25, 2014
Dates: Season will begin August 11, 2014 and will end on October 20,
2014
Cost: $400 per team
Ages: 18 and older
Description: All games for the Adult Men’s Spring Softball will be
held at Carrollton Nike Park on Monday nights starting at 6:30pm. The
coaches meeting will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 6:30pm in
the Recreation Hall at Carrollton Nike Park, all money and registration
forms will need to be turned in at this time. For more information about
registering teams please call 757-357-2291.

Camps
Summer Blast
Two wonderful locations: Carrollton Elementary and Windsor
Elementary School. The program runs Monday - Thursdays; June 23rd
–July 31st from 7:00 am-6:00 pm. The registration fee is $20, each
weekly session cost $60.00. At the time of registration both registration
fee and the first session attending fees are due. For more information

British Soccer Camps
British Soccer Camps provide young players with the
rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching
from a team of international experts’ right in the heart of
their own community. Each British Soccer Camp provides
players of all ages and abilities the appropriate program and level of
curriculum and a wonderful cultural and educational camp experience!
Challenger Sports British Soccer Camps is the most popular soccer
camp in the country. Hundreds of Challenger coaches each year have
helped the company develop one of the most innovative approaches to
coaching youth soccer in the US. Our experienced staff study the game
at all levels and we have identified the key techniques and skills that
your players need to work on and master to reach their true potential.
Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily World Cup

Tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides
your child with lessons in self-discipline, good sportsmanship and
respect for others and for the game. Campers will enjoy a daily program
of Camp break activities and an end of camp graduation party!

August 18-22 – British Soccer
TetraBrazil Camp
The TetraBrazil Academy provides players with authentic Brazilian coaching right in their own community. The TetraBrazil curriculum has been designed by
our professional coaches and staff to provide teams with
the same expert level of training received by professional clubs in Brazil.
TetraBrazil is an organization of professional soccer educators who
bring the flair and passion of Brazilian soccer to North America. Our

Trip Cancellation: All cancellations must be made in writing. No
refunds are given after the date stated in the trip information packet. If
I.O.W. County Parks and Recreation cancels a trip a full refund will be
given. Medical emergencies will be handled within the trip insurance
policy. No-Shows for trip will not receive a credit/refund.

TRIP GUIDELINES
Seating: Seating is available on a first-come, firstserve basis on the day of the trip. For the comfort of
our trip-goers we try to accommodate requests, which
are also first come first serve but we cannot guarantee these requests. Overnight trips will have assigned
seating.
Reservations: Trip reservations are accepted on
a first-come, first serve basis with payment and a
completed registration. Spaces are only reserved when a
payment/deposit has been received.
Payments/Deposits: Each trip listed has a maximum number allowed. Once this number is reached additional persons will
be placed on a waiting list and we will contact those individuals in
order, if space becomes available. Day trips require full payment with
reservation. Overnight trips will have an option to pay in full or make
multiple payments until the balance paid date. No reservations will be
held without payment.
