We have quite a number of new take home readers and teacher resource books that will require covering. If you are able to
spend a few hours to help cover these books, you can even do it at
home if you wish, we would greatly appreciate some help.

- From our Principal The end of the school year is rapidly
approaching. This is always a busy
time at school so please check the
calendar for some important
upcoming dates such as the end of
year break up. The children can get tired towards
the end of the year but it is still very important they
attend school regularly and stay in a routine. If your
child is going to be absent please inform the office
or your child’s teacher so that it can be correctly
recorded.
Thanks to all families who have supported the raffle
for the blanket made in the senior grade. The
students have done a wonderful job under the
guidance of Mr Minogue and Mrs Fleming in putting
this together throughout the year. The money from
the raffle will go to a charity of the children’s
choosing. Well done to everyone involved.
In the past a Kris Kringle has run in the classrooms
at the end of the year for Christmas. This year and
most likely into the future we won’t be
having a Kris Kringle. Instead we will be asking
students and families to buy a gift for another child
that will be given to a charity. This was a suggestion
from School Council that I think is a great idea
which encourages students to give at Christmas
time, as well as receiving gifts too. We will supply
some more details about this initiative soon.
Next Friday (29th November) we will be having our
“Jump Off Day” to raise some money for the Heart
Foundation and to celebrate our skipping program
which has run very successfully this term. Each
student is asked to bring along a gold coin donation
and can dress in casual “sporty” clothes for the day.
We will run some skipping activities in the last hour
of the day (2:15-3:15pm) when the children usually
have sport. You are more than welcome to attend
and join in.
DOOKIE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Today at school we ran a successful session on
Kidsmatter for our staff as well those from
Tallygaroopna PS and Currawa PS. Kidsmatter has
become an important part of the way we operate our
school here and this session was about the social
and emotional learning of students. As well as
teaching children how to be literate and numerate,
we also see our role at school to teach children
social and emotional skills such as making and
keeping friends, managing and understanding
emotions and how to act appropriately in social
situations. Many of these skills we teach in our
Buddy Bonding sessions on Monday, and also
throughout the week with through our school values.
A number of concerns have been raised
with me regarding the standard of
driving and how children are dropped off
in front of the school during the
mornings. Please remember that nothing is more
important than the safety of your children and all
those that attend Dookie Primary School. As a
community we should all be expected to act and
drive in a safe manner around the school. Please
remember that:
*Speed limits around the school are 40KM/H
*If you park on the opposite side of the road to the
school, please walk your children across the road
*Keep a close eye on your children around the road
until they are walked safely into the school grounds
*pick your children up from under the covered area
at the end of the school day.
I am sure all members of the school community
understand that this is a very important issue that
we need to act responsibly on, as nothing is more
important than the children’s safety.
The Bunning Fundraising BBQ is on
this Sunday. If you are in Shepparton
drop in and buy a sausage to support
the school. Thanks in advance to the
parents who are helping to run the
event on the day.
On Tuesday 3rd December we will be running our
annual Thank You lunch for all the kitchen and
garden volunteers from this year. Our volunteers are
such a valued and important part of our SAKG that
we want to thank them and show our appreciation
for all their contributions throughout the year. The
NOVEMBER BIRTHDAYS
lunch will start at 1pm and go for approximately an
hour. The students will be making up
21st - Donny Freeman
invitations and sending them out next
22nd - Cara Gabutan
week. We hope to see all our valued
28th - Jacob Ladgrove
volunteers there on the day.

Junior Class with Mrs Comer
Literacy: This week in literacy we have focused on the text Elmer and the Lost Teddy. The
students have been learning about getting information from the pictures and making
predictions about what will happen next. The focus sound has been /o/ and we have been
continuing to work on the –ed suffix.
Writing: I continue to be really pleased with the standard of writing that the students are producing. On
Monday, they were keen to write about the Dookie Junior Disco and the circus skills.
Maths: The focus for this week has been counting. The Preps have been practising counting to 100 by
1s with particular focus on bridging the 10s (30, 40, 50 etc) as this is where they experience the most
difficulty. The Grade Ones have been practising skip counting and counting backwards from any starting
point below 100.
We have also continued to focus on addition. The students have enjoyed completing addition pictures
while I have completed numeracy assessment.
Investigations: This week during investigations we have been reading Little Red Riding Hood. We have
used the story to focus on characters, particularly the villain.
Dress-up Day: This was a really fun day and I would like to thank all the parents for their part in making
it so successful. The students enjoyed making gingerbread men, participating in Fairy Tale activities and
watching some Fairy Tale stories on the interactive whiteboard.
2014 STUDENT BOOK LISTS
Our 2014 Booklists were sent home today. Once again we have reviewed the
type and amount of stationery each student requires for each year level. We have also ensured
our families are getting the best value and quality for their money.
If you have any questions regarding the booklist please see Jane or Michael. Booklists are due
back on Wednesday 4th December. Please note: NO payment is required until you collect
your orders from Lovell’s Newsagency in January.

Senior Class with Mr Mingoue
Literacy: Literacy this week has been focused on using better adjectives in our writing to
help show more detail. The senior class have also been finishing their work on “Sheep
Dogs”.
Maths: The maths focus for this week has involved looking at the relationships between
fractions, decimals and percentages. Students have created a number line and have
focused on rounding decimals to the nearest whole number.
Yachting: Last Thursday the senior class went yachting on Victoria Park Lake. The students learnt skills
in setting the sails in a yacht and capsizing (which was said to be the highlight). As always the Dookie
students showed exemplary behaviour and represented the school magnificently.
