Next Carroll Family Reunion!
Hosts: Nancy & Terry Guy
308 House Rock Road, Pequea, PA 17565
717-284-1920; [email protected]
Date: Saturday August 2, 2008
Reunion Location: Memorial Park
299 Park Avenue
Quarryville, PA
Nancy and Terry Guy have announced that they will be hosting the 2008 reunion. Quarryville is about 15
miles south of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is a short distance from where Nancy & Terry live in Pequea,
PA. For those who have never visited the Lancaster area, it is known as Pennsylvania Dutch Country and is
the home of many Amish families and their culture. Lancaster County offers small towns that have retained
their unique small town charm and they have unusual names, too, like Lititz, Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand, and
Paradise. Many of the products sold there are also made there: Amish quilts, indoor and outdoor furniture,
toys, household goods, and more. Plus, local craftsmen have developed a reputation for superior quality.
Lancaster County is also home to more factory outlet
stores (and more bargains!) than you'll find almost
anywhere, offering discount prices on just about anything
you can imagine. For a list of things to see and do in the
Lancaster area please check out this website http://www.800padutch.com/. For those planning to
attend the next reunion, you may want to think about
sandwiching vacation time around the reunion. Joan & I
have visited the area several times and can guarantee that
you will have a good time while you are there. Below is a
list of some motels that was provided by Terry. I have
added information related to the approximate distance to
Memorial Park, motel websites, and approximate room
costs (single room, 2 adults). This list is just a sampling
of the lodging that is available in the Lancaster area. If
you don’t see what you like here, I suggest to look at the
above website. You may be able to get better room rates
by visiting some of the on-line reservation websites or by calling directly. I’m not sure how early you can
make your reservations, but I suggest you make them as soon as possible. A map to Memorial Park and a
list of some of the places to visit and see will be sent out at a later date. The map, above, shows the
relationship of Quarryville to Lancaster and Pequea. If you have questions, please contact Nancy and Terry
directly.

90th Birthday Celebration
On October 6, 2008, approximately 90 Carroll family members and friends descended on the little hamlet
of North Boston, NY, to honor the 90th birthday (October 8, 1917) of the first set of Carroll twins, Frances
(Carroll) McNeil and William Joseph Carroll. As Carroll family parties go, this one started in the early
afternoon and lasted well into the night. The families of Fran and Bill put the party together.

That the party was a great success can be verified by the number of people who remained late into the night
and did not want to see it end. A big thanks to both families for putting on such a great affair and a special
thanks to Sharon and Carol for working so hard to see that the party was a success. Many of the Joseph
Carroll family members sent their birthday congratulations and regrets that they couldn’t be present because
they were attending the wedding of Dani Carroll and Larry Kooyman that was held in Franklin, Tennessee.
The Great Carroll Family Debate
The following was submitted anonymously - Although the 90th Birthday bash for Uncle Bill and Aunt Fran was
deemed a huge success by all, with everyone seemingly having a great time, there was a note of discord that could be
heard from time to time over the cheerful conversations of the jubilant crowd. It seemed that there was great debate
on-going among some family members - sometimes boarding on full fledge argument, but thankfully none of the
combatants had to resort to physical persuasions. The source of this great debate seemed to center around the loyal
and faithful allegiance of Terry & Nancy Guy for the Cleveland Indians versus the unwavering and total, life-long
support of the New York Yankees by Don Sedor and Jack Foley. It turns out, the timing of the Birthday Party
occurred the same weekend as the first round of the Major League Baseball playoffs and, as luck would have it, the
Indians and Yankees were pitted against each other causing added anguish, excitement, and rivalry among these
family members. Although both sides put forth strong support and advocacy; great rhetoric and argument; many
cheers, moans, and groans, in the end only one team could emerge victorious and advance to the next round.
Congratulations go out to Terry & Nancy as their team, the Indians triumphed over the Yankees 3 games to 1. This
success and euphoria lasted only a short while, however, as the Indians lost to the Boston Red Sox in the next round;
rendering both teams back to the same point of having to “Wait ‘till next year”. Which brings us to the next
anticipated “Great Debate” to be continued during the reunion next August - Which team will have the better record
and who will have bragging rights? To find this out and much more, make sure you attend the 2008 Carroll reunion.

Donald Sedor writes - Our oldest son, Matt, has relocated from Irvine, California (in the Orange
County area) to Temple Terrace, Florida (suburb of Tampa). In August, he took a job at ARCADIS,
a global environmental and geo-technical services company that specializes in the investigation,
remediation, and regeneration of Brownfield sites and contaminated land. One interesting
assignment he had, was being part of a Crisis Action Team this last October to help clean up
hazardous waste from a 30-car train derailment in Painesville, Ohio. Painesville, of course, was the
long time home of the Joe Carroll family. Don is the son of Joe and Catherine (Carroll) Sedor.
•
Jack Mazikowski writes – Our son, Dan, has been spending a couple weeks in Alabama but will
soon be returning to Newark, N J, where he will continue in his profession as a Special Effects
Artist. He does special effects make-up on actors, makes specific wardrobe pieces as required,
makes prosthetic pieces and has built articles of movie sets. He has worked on music videos and
films, two films being released on DVD so far. Last year "The Roost" was released and picked up
by Showtime. This year, "The Murder Game" was released on DVD. Jack is the husband of Janice
(McNeil) Mazikowski and son in-law of Angus and Frances (Carroll) McNeil.

Carroll Family History
In the December 2006 newsletter, I asked how many of you knew the details of how Grandpa Carroll lost
his arm in a railroad accident. I had earlier recollections from Aunt Fran & Aunt Gerry as to what they
remembered. I decided to do some Internet investigating to see what could be found. Searching for accident
records of the B. & O. and the B. & S. Railroads, led to a dead-end. I next searched for newspaper clippings
figuring that an accident of this type surely would be news worthy. My search netted me the email address
for the “DuBois Area Historical Society”. A quick note to them produced the following news article. I have
a copy of the original newspaper article and will bring it to the next reunion.

Not All the Brave go off to War
As reflected in this picture, that not all the brave leave the "home of
the brave" to enter battle; some are required now to be the “brave of
the home”. It is said a picture is worth a thousand words but this one
leaves me speechless and tears in my eyes.
Our troops need our prayers for strength, endurance and safety.
Please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our troops around the
world.
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their
families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need... Amen."
I try to keep away from getting to political or religious when I add articles at the end of the newsletter to fill
up a page. However, when I received the above article as part of an email, I had to share it with you. Most
of us will thankfully never know the horror of losing a loved-one due to war and I hope and pray that I will
never have to report a soldier’s death in this newsletter. Let’s pray that all of our troops will return safely.
Holiday Greetings
I realize that it is a little early for holiday greetings, but this will be the last newsletter for 2007. Therefore,
since Joan & I will not be seeing many of you until the reunion we want to take this opportunity to wish
each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May
the New Year be filled with good health, happiness and joy!
See you all at the reunion!
