e’re so lucky here in the Crescenta Valley.
Whether in search of entertainment,
dining options or shopping possibilities,
we have so many fine choices. Some are right in our
backyard while others may require a little traveling.
But let’s face it: when it comes to enjoying the finest, a
little traveling is not a problem!
And that’s what this publication is all about
– celebrating the very finest that readers of the
Crescenta Valley Weekly have selected in a variety
of goods and services. Need a massage? We can tell
you where to find the finest day spa and masseuse!
Craving Chinese? We know where the finest Chinese
food is located! Want to lose a few pounds? We’ll share
with you the trainer who can help with that! And
those are just a few of the more than 125 categories
that have been voted on by our readers.
Obviously the input of our readers was essential
to identifying the finest and, true to form, readers
of the Crescenta Valley Weekly rose to the occasion.
We processed over 13,000 votes – an extraordinary
number, especially when considering that this is just
our second year of hosting a readers’ poll.
Many managers would have run screaming when
confronting so many ballots, but our office manager
Lisa Mitchell (one of three – yes, three! – Lisas we
have here at CV Weekly!) was undaunted. She rolled
up her sleeves, sharpened her pencil and began
recording those selections chosen in each category on
every ballot. Because a minimum of 10 selections had
to be made per ballot in order for it to be valid and
not every ballot had the same selections, counting the
votes was an exhausting challenge. It took nearly a
month, but Lisa finished the job.
Then it was up to our sales team of Kim Mekelburg,
Lisa Stanners and Lisa Yeghiayan to let the winners
know that they were indeed the cream of the crop.
Reaction by business owners ranged from shouts of
surprise to hugs and tears. What a wonderful time
the sales team had in spreading the good news!
Many of the winners wanted to thank those who
voted them the finest and also to tell you more about
their business. You’ll find lots of information on the
following pages about those selected by your friends
and neighbors as the finest.
This has been a huge undertaking and now it’s time
to celebrate! The winners of the 2013 Finest have
been invited to an exclusive party hosted by Crescenta
Valley Weekly at Deukmejian Wilderness Park
(voted as The Finest Sunset) to acknowledge having
been chosen by our readers as the finest (pictures of
the 2012 celebration are on this page). As you can
imagine, rising to the top of any field takes dedication
and we’re happy to recognize these business owners’
hard work.
Another highlight at this party will be celebrating
the fourth anniversary of the CV Weekly. Hopefully,
you consider us the finest source of community news
– we certainly think our readers are the very finest

Therapist! I am thrilled! The most common question I get
asked is: What Is the difference between medical and
regular massage? All massage will increase circulation,
decrease blood pressure, and promote relaxation. Medical
massage is result oriented. I want to get rid of your pain not
just relax you. I will set you up on a treatment schedule to
achieve that and concentrate only on areas where there are
problems. I usually focus on one body part like a shoulder or
the low back for 25 minutes at a time! Very effective! Doctors
often prescribe Medical Massage so it may be covered by
insurance. Regular massage generally covers most areas of
the body and follows a general routine. Medical Massage
uses neuromuscular therapy, interactive stretching, deep
tissue, connective tissue release, lymphatic, cross fiber
techniques and is usually done in a professional setting
with the patient an active participant. Regular massage uses
Swedish and other relaxing techniques, usually done in a
spa type setting. Sessions with me may be a combination
of both, for an hour or longer instead of the standard 25
minute session with patients both active and
relaxing, enjoying deep rest and healing.
Sometimes it is a challenging balance, but
the resulting relief of pain is worth it!

The Center for Children has been offering quality child care in
the Crescenta Valley area since 1967. Growing out of a morning
preschool experience, the Center for Children added programs
as the needs in the community changed over the last 40 years.
But what has never changed is a commitment to finding and
retaining a well educated and professional staff, holding true to
developmentally appropriate practices and staying current in
the field. With no combining of classes, each classroom has
teachers at both the beginning and end of the day, so you see
your child’s teachers each day. Nutritious meals prepared on

ratios and large outside play areas add to the child’s experience.
Our infant/toddler program uses current brain development
research to prepare the environment and curriculum. Our

Revolution Dance Center began in 1996 out of
owner, Julie Kay Stallcup’s desire to live out her dream
and her life purpose of passing on her passion for dance
and life to children and young adults in the Crescenta
Valley. “Some people were born to be doctors, I was

You don’t have to look further than

Craig Fisher. Craig was born
and raised in Glendale and
graduated from Herbert Hoover
High School in 1979. He has very
strong ties to the community.
He resides in La Crescenta. His
daughters, Ashley and Rachel,
went through local schools and
graduated from Crescenta Valley
High School. He has coached
and sponsored several youth
sports teams and has been on
the Board of Directors of the
Crescenta Valley Chamber of
