HCCU Celebrates Our 60th Anniversary!
1953 saw the first Chevy
Corvette roll off the assembly
line; Jonas Salk produced
the first polio vaccine and
Dwight D. Eisenhower was
inaugurated as President of
the United States. And, at
Mather Air Force Base, seven
civilians came together to form
a financial cooperative that
would become Mather Federal
Credit Union.
Our history is forever
intertwined with the history
of Mather Air Force Base.
Originally a pilot training
facility during World War I, Mather Field was fully activated as Mather
Air Force Base in 1941. The base was used continually through the next
four decades, with periodic remodeling of the facilities including the
construction of our former Mather branch.
Folsom Branch
Grand Opening
Have you visited our beautiful new
Folsom branch yet? If the convenience
of our new drive-up teller window
hasn’t brought you in yet, our
upcoming Grand Opening celebration
will provide a great reason to stop by!
Our Grand Opening celebration will be
Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 11 am
to 2 pm at the branch (707 E. Bidwell
St.). We’ll start off with a Ribbon
Cutting ceremony by the Folsom
Chamber of Commerce, followed by a
reception featuring light refreshments
and giveaways.
We hope to see you there!
In 1962, we grew our field of membership to include the base's
military personnel. Then, the closure of Mather AFB in 1993 brought
our biggest challenge yet. To continue to operate, we needed to make
some changes. We added new members from a merger with Electrical
Workers #340 Credit Union, and the Proctor and Gamble Employees
Federal Credit Union.
In 1998, Mather Federal Credit Union members voted to convert to
a state-chartered community credit union. We officially changed our
name to Heritage Community Credit Union in 1999, and expanded our
field of membership to include individuals who live, work, worship or
attend school in Sacramento or Placer Counties.

branch interior (below)
In our 60 years of service to our members, we have seen many
changes to products, technology and even the locations of our
branches. But one thing remains as true today as it was back in 1953:
we are committed to helping our members achieve their financial
goals. The success of our members is key to the success of HCCU’s
past, present and future.
As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we look back with great pride
over what we have accomplished together, and we encourage you
to participate in the numerous activities throughout the year. Going
forward, we will continue to build on our rich Heritage, towards a
bright future – and we hope you’ll join us.

The Ins and Outs of ePayments
Are you ordering far fewer checks for your account these days?
Does a roll of postage stamps seem to last a lot longer? Like
most people, you’re probably performing many more financial
transactions electronically, either by choice or because companies
and government agencies have increasingly made it all but
mandatory.
Electronic transactions have caught on because:
 They are environmentally friendly and save millions of tons
of paper.
 They’re faster. Bill payments and direct deposits to your
account occur the same day (often instantly), versus being
delayed in the mail. And, if you sometimes forget to mail
payments on time, auto payment protects against late fees.
 They’re convenient. You can choose one-time bill pay, where
you first review your bill and then authorize payment; or
recurring bill pay, where your bills are paid automatically at a
scheduled time for any amount you choose.
 They’re safer. Even in these high-tech times, old-fashioned
mail theft remains a major problem. For example, in 2010
more than 540,000 mailed federal benefit checks were
reported lost or stolen and had to be replaced.
That doesn’t mean electronic transactions are risk-free. As with
email or any kind of online activity, you should take precautions
to protect your computer (and cell phone) from being hacked. For
example:
 Make sure your anti-virus and anti-spyware software is up-todate.
 When making online payments, look for safety symbols like a
padlock icon in the browser's status bar, an "s" after "http"
in the URL, or the words "Secure Sockets Layer” (SSL).
 Review credit card and bank account statements regularly
and report duplicate bill payments or suspicious/
unauthorized charges to the card issuer.
 Regularly order your credit reports from the three major
credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion), and
review for errors or fraudulent activity. You can order one free
report annually from each at www.AnnualCreditReport.com,
or more frequently for a small fee from each bureau.
 Create complex, random passwords and change them
regularly.
If you are not already using ehccu-online banking, now is a great
time to get started! Contact our Call Center for help setting up
your online account and registering for ehccupay-bill payment at
916.364.1700 or 800.233.6328.
Go Direct Today
We want to remind all our members that, if you still receive
a paper check for your federal benefit payments, you only
have TWO MONTHS until you are required by law to
switch to electronic payments. You can sign up at your
local HCCU branch, or go online to www.GoDirect.org.
