A trusted name in global education
A degree from the University of London is a mark of excellence,
respected by employers and universities worldwide.
Academic excellence since 1858
The award you receive
The University of London established the
University of London International Programmes
in 1858, making its degrees accessible to
students across the world. Past students
include many people who have shaped the
world we live in, including leaders of business
and industry, judges, authors, politicians,
and seven Nobel Prize winners, among them
Nelson Mandela. We now have over 54,000
students in more than 180 countries.
When you graduate, you are awarded a
University of London degree, diploma or
certificate. The final parchment includes
the University of London logo and
signature of the Vice-Chancellor, and
indicates which University of London
College conducted your examinations.
The University of London and India
We have a long history in India, with students
first taking University of London exams locally
in 1880. The first three universities in India,
the University of Calcutta, the University of
Madras and the University of Mumbai, were all
based on the University of London governance
model. There are now more than 700 students
studying with the University of London in India.
‘I would recommend
the University
of London
International
Programmes as
one can get a world
standard, quality education in
India, at a much lower cost than
moving overseas, but with an
equivalent global exposure.’
Standards you can rely on
Pankhuri Bansal, BSc (Hons)
Economics and Finance (2013)
You can be confident in the standard of
your degree. The standard of assessment
is consistent wherever you study, whether
on campus at a University of London
College, or anywhere in the world. You
are assessed using dependable methods,
such as unseen examinations. This helps
to ensure that your University of London
qualification is of the same high academic
standard, however it is achieved.
Pankhuri is a Financial Analyst in the
Index Business Management Unit at the
Mumbai office of MSCI (Morgan Stanley
Capital International), a leading US-based
company that provides investment support
tools. She studied for her University of
London degree at Podar World College.

the quality of
the University

higher than I had ever

Globally recognised qualifications
Our degrees are internationally recognised, giving graduates a
headstart when applying for jobs or pursuing further study.
A gateway to postgraduate study
The universities of Calcutta, Delhi and Mumbai
recognise LSE-led degrees in Economics,
Management, Finance and the Social Sciences
as sufficient to sit the entrance requirements
exams for postgraduate study. Our degrees
also open doors to top universities worldwide.
Our graduates have gone on to complete
further study at renowned universities such
as Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and University
College London (UCL), Dartmouth,
Chicago Graduate School of Business,
the University of Melbourne, the National
University of Singapore, and many more.
Masters scholarships at LSE
Scholarships for MSc study at LSE are awarded
annually to University of London International
Programmes students who have successfully
completed an undergraduate degree directed
by LSE and who have also been accepted
for postgraduate study at LSE. To qualify,
students will normally have, or expect to
have, a First Class degree. These scholarships
normally cover full fees and maintenance.
Transferring to a UK university
After your first year of study, you may be able to
transfer to the second year of a similar degree as
an on-campus student at one of the Colleges of
the University of London or another university
in the UK. A number of students from India
have been accepted to LSE in their second year.
However, there is a great deal of competition,
so you will need to achieve good marks. You
8

should contact the admissions department of
your desired university for more information.
Opening doors to lucrative careers
Studying with the University of London can
give you a competitive edge in the job market.
Our graduates are sought after by local and
international organizations for their versatility
and leadership skills. Graduates from India
have gained jobs in a variety of organisations,
including Deloitte, American Express, Morgan
Stanley, and the British High Commission.
‘The Diploma
course offered by
the University of
London was the
only course which
offered a good balance
between the theory and
application of economics. I have
become more analytical in my
perspective and I have improved
my style of studying. I try to find
the causes of things instead of
accepting them as they are.’
Shalini Mittal, Diploma
in Economics (2010)
After excelling in the Diploma in Economics
while at Indian School of Business and
Finance (ISBF) in New Delhi, Shalini
overcame fierce competition to gain a
transfer to continue her BSc Economics
at LSE in London with a complete
scholarship. She then completed a
Masters at LSE and is now an economist at
Cambridge Econometrics in Cambridge.
Fast track to professional accreditation
Graduates of the BSc Accounting and Finance
and BSc Banking and Finance degrees who
wish to continue to professional accreditation
may be able to get exemptions for certain
modules from six professional bodies. This
arrangement means that if you pass the
required combination of courses on your
degree, you will be able gain your professional
accreditation more quickly. For more

‘I remember when
I was in my first
interview at Morgan
Stanley, the first
thing my boss
appreciated was my
University of London
degree. I worked with the Senior
Business Management team in
the UK and I can confidently say
that my degree set a firm ground
for me. It instilled in me the
constant need to think, question
and analyze – in other words it
gave me the secret weapon to
stand apart from the crowd and
strive in the challenges I take up!’

‘Though there were
many competing
private universities, I
chose the University
of London mainly
because of the
content of the course.
The deep analysis and the
need to broaden one’s horizons
during the essential academic
years caught my eye. Though
learning never stops through life,
the sheer pool of knowledge I
gathered during my three years
studying was simply amazing.’
