G-H fourth graders share traditions
Students in Mikell Brosamle’s
fourth grade class at Galva-Holstein answer: What are your favorite holiday traditions?
Every Christmas we go to my
grandma’s house. And we have
supper. We open presents, but
before we open presents we
go outside and play with my
cousins. We play football, tag,
and Hide and seek. Then after
we open our pesents we play
with our gifts. Then we wrestle
with the grownups. It’s the best
Christmas ever.
Griffin Lukins
Every year for Christmas we
go to both of my grandparent’s
houses. At my mom’s mom’s
house we get there at 11 a.m.
and wait for everyone else to get
there.
Then we eat a special meal of
roast, corn, mash patatoes, buns,
and a whole bunch of desserts.
It is delicious. After that we do a
white elephant gift exchange.
All of my mom’s side of the
family is there so then I tell
them what I got when I opened
presents that morning. Then,
we can start to open presents. I
think that it is hilarious to watch
what people get in their gift bags
from the white elephant gift exchange.
Finally, we get to open real
presents. I get the coolest presents from my family. After that
we play games and talk. It is an
exellent time. Then, we all go
home. After we go home we get
ready to go to my dad’s mom’s
house. We do the same thing
except we don’t have the same
meal and don’t do the white
elephant gift exchange. I love
Christmas.
Kenna Wiese
Come the holidays my family likes to go Christmas shopping. Sometimes when there is a
lot of snow my Mom, Dad and I
build a snowfort. We also build a
snowman. Then our dog likes to
knock it down. It’s kind of funny
because he has snow all over
him. On my Dad’s side we all go
to my grandma Mary’s house.
We have a feast. Then we sign
Christmas songs, open presents,
and watch a Christmas movie together. On my Mom’s side of the
family we have a feast, do a gift
exchange, and the adults have
their own. Then we all go home
late at night. Then in the morning we open our Santa gifts and
our stocking stuffers. Last year
I got nail polish and candy. We
also watch a Christmas movie.
This year I hope we get to do it
all over again. My mom’s mother has a christmas tree that me
and my cousins stand by to get
a yearly picture. My aunt and
uncle got me ITunes cards last
year. This year is going one of
the best.
Janella Faist
On Christmas morning I wake
up and eat breakfast. Then I go
to the family room and watch a
Christmas moving. Next I go to
the living room and open presents. After that we go to my
grandparent’s house and eat
lunch. We eat turkey, mash potatoes, and corn. After that we
open present. Then we go home
and play a Christmas world on
minecraft.
Zachary Martin
I love my Christmas traditions
with my mom’s side of the family because we get to travel and
drive in the snow. We leave for
our Christmas vacation five days
before Christmas, so we can
visit for two days, so the next
day would be the day we have
Christmas, so we do not miss being home on Christmas Day for
santa presents. When we have
our Christmas at grandma’s
house we eat this huge delicious
meal. Then after we are done
eating we play some fun games
and vist with each other. After
that we open presents and play
with them for awhile. Then we
watch a Christmas movie and
lay on the couch for a little bit
enjoying the movie.
Rowan Jensen
I love holiday traditions. We
always go to my dad’s side. We
play and then we eat. We have
ham. Then we go to my cousins
in North Dakota. We hook up the
4-wheeler and the sled. Jordan
pulls us and we go to my aunt
and uncles in Florida. It is still
warm so we go to the beach and
make sandmen.
Kody Jacobson
My holiday tradition on Christmas is that on Christmas morning we open our presents from
Santa and my family members
at my house. Then, we go to my
grandma and grandpa’s house
on my mom’s side and open
our presents from my grandma,
grandpa, and uncle. It is cool. We
open presents from youngest
to oldest. Then we start it over
every time we open a present.
After we open our presents, we
pick up the wrappers sometimes
we throw them at each other. After we pick up the wrappers we
play with our toys. Then we eat.
It’s the best.
Leanna Vincent
Every Christmas Eve we go
to my aunt Nancy’s an a Christmas dinner and do a gift exchange. Then we go home and
go to sleep. Then we wake up
for Christmas morning. Every
year we get a big bottle of sparkleing juice. We drank the juice
on Christmas night at our family
Christmas party.
Payton Rabbass
Every Christmas I open presents with my parents. Then, we
clean all the beautiful wrappers. Then, if I get video games.
I try them out. If I have anymore
things I will try them out too.
Then we take the ornaments
down. If it snows then I’ll make
a snowman. I’ll go ask if Damon
and Gracie can play. Then, we
can go inside and enjoy hot coca,
and play multi-player games.
Danica Vohs
Every year my family draws a
card one month be Christmas.
What we do is we put my families names in a hat or bowl. Then
you draw and whoever you draw
you get something for them. On
Christmas night you tell whose
name you draw, and they get to
open the present you got them.
Then it is their turn tell who
they got and they do the process
all over again. The night before
Christmas, when it is dark, we
have a flashlight picture. What
we do is we stand by the Christmas tree with our flashlights and
tak a picture. I love christmas.
Erica Taylor
We go to my Great Grandma’s
for Christmas. We have turkey
and ham. Then we have drssert.
Then we get are tummy’s settled. And we open presents. We
all track Santa to see where he
is. When we get home Santa has
visited our house.
Shae Dutler
On Christmas Eve we celebrate Elizabeth’s birthday. Then
we go to church. When we get
home from church we eat supper. Following that, we return to
a candle light service at church.
Finaly, we go to bed. On Chrimas morning we open presents
at our house. Once we get done
opening the presents we go
to my mom’s parents house to
open more presents. After we
clean up, we talk to our grandparents. Then we travel to my
dad’s mom’s house and have
Christmas at her house. It’s a
busy 48 hours.
Jacob Schimmer
On Christmas Eve my mom
cooks mased potatoes and gravy,
chicken, jello and corn. Sometimes I help my mom. Then we
go to church. Aftor the long service, we come home and open
gifts. We play with are gifts and
play games. Then we go up to
bed. In the morning, we open
stockings. Then we go to my
grandma and grandpa’s house.
When we get there my cousins
area all there. We open the rest
of are gifts. Then all the kids go
out side, the babys take naps the
women make lunch and the men
watch football. After we eat lunh
we have desert. The next day we
go home.

Every year I go to my cousins on
Christmas Eve and eat dinner. My
family sometimes breings Oreo
luft. There is also turkey, mashed
potatoes, and a little corn. We also
open some presents and talk about
what were going to do for Chirstmas. Then we go home at 8:30 or
8:00 o’clock, and go to sleep.
Matthew Forristal
Every year on my Grandma’s
side (Bacon) we have Christmas
around the end of December. My
aunt’s, uncles, cousins and grandparents gather at someone’s
house. We eat turkey or some sort
of meat with other things that we
bring. We play games and give each
other gifts. The adults talk and the
kids play. I play board games with
my aunts and grandparents. Sometimes I win. My favorite game is
Pegs and Jokers. We get home lake.
It is so fun.
Jaycie Vohs
At Christmas my whole family gets together at my Grandparent’s house. We do many things.
Last year we played some games
my cousin made up. Most years
we watch football or basketball
games. Before Christmas my cousins and I pull names out of a hat
and whoever’s name you pick you
purchase that person a present
for Christmas. If you get one of
your sibling’s names you redraw
out of the hat. I don’t like it when
I get one of my girl cousin’s name
because then I don’t know what I
should get them. One of the best
part is my cousins from Arkansas
usually come. Christmas is my favorite holiday.
Gabe Chance
On New Year’s Eve my family
gets to have a friend over. We all
watch the ball drop at midnight
because it’s very joyful. That’s
when a new year starts. Once that
ball drops we all start to cheer. We
all go to the kitchen and eat some
dessert. Then we go to bed.
Jayley Endrulat
Every year I go to my Grandparents for Christmas. We eat chicken
for dinner. Then we open presents.
The I play with my cousins. The
best part of this is seeing my cousins who live far away. We eat yummy desserts. Then we go home.
Gavin Stehr
Our family traditions is that everyone comes over to are house,
and we open presents and play
games. And all of the parents have
a gift exchange. Sometimes Skyler, Carly, and I get to play too. My
baby cousins Brantly and Emerson
like to play tic-tac-tow.
Kaden Andresen
Each year we all get each other
presents and open them up after dinner. After we go play some
board games like Monopoly and
other games, we go out to play on
the snow. My Grandma Karen from
Sioux City comes and has dinner
with us. After dinner we open our
presents that my grandma got us. I
love our Christmas tradition.

BC-IG fourth graders —
Christmas means joy, love, giving, Jesus, presents, cookies, family, sledding
Students in Janet Snyder’s fourth
grade class and Darla Ludvigson’s
literacy class answer: What Christmas means to me?
Christmas means joy to me. At
Christmas we transport by vehicle
to my grandma’s property to get
dressed and take pictures. Next
we travel ive minutes to my great
grandma’s residence. When we arrive at her farm we eat but before
we do we pray before the meal because Jesus was born on Christmas.
Then we tear open presents, mine
are always legos because they satisfy me. Finally, the next day Taylor
wakes me up. It ticks me off a little
but when I see presents it pleases
me. After we open all the presents
we use them to tease my family.
Christmas means lots of joy and
other things or feelings to me.
Myles Beck
What does Christmas mean to
me? To me, Christmas means joy
because I want everybody to be
happy on Christmas.
On Christmas, all the members
of my family get together at my
great grandma’s residence. My favorite cousins come and we have a
feast of soup and Christmas cookies. After that, we open presents
and the smallest child opens the
irst present. Then we play with
the presents we got.
But to me Christmas isn’t just
getting, but it’s giving joy, and being generous. Do you have generosity on Christmas.
Madison Bobzien
Christmas means a lot of things,
but to me it’s love and giving. My
family loves me a lot and I bet
yours does too. The food is really
good too. Plus it’s giving because
Santa gives presents to kids. Plus
your parents give you clothes to
wear. So be thankful of that.
If you have a lot of things be
thankful of that too because people would love to have all of your
things because some peopled
don’t have all of that. Plus if they’d
have it they wouldn’t want it and
if you’re mean your parents just
might give to kids that don’t have
all of that. Presents are really
awesome because they give you
stuff that you might want or need.
That’s why Christmas means love
and giving to me.
Charles Conard
Christmas is the best time to feel
excited. Everybody feels excited
when they get to open presents. I
hope that everybody gets at least
two or three things on their wish
list.
Christmas is a great time for
fun and laughter. Christmas is a
fun time to play board games and
games that you made up. Go outside and make a snowman. I always
get excited when I get to do things
like this. I hope you get excited too.
Do you know what makes it even
better? Getting to this stuff with
your family.
Christmas is the best time to celebrate with your brothers, sisters,
mom, dad, aunt, and uncle. Make
sure that you tell your family members to have a Merry Christmas.
I hope that you always have a
happy and exciting Christmas. Always remember that Jesus’s birthday is on Christmas day.
Paula Curiel
Christmas means love. Christmas is my favorite time. Christmas
means love to me because I love
Jesus, my family, and my baby ornaments. Christmas time is my favorite time of love because I think
about Jesus. I hope you do too.
Christmas is all about Jesus. I hope
you think Christmas is all about
Jesus. Jesus was born on Christmas and that is why we celebrate
Christmas. Ever Christmas I go
to church to celebrate Christmas.
This what Christmas means to
me. Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year.
Cristian Delcid
Christmas is a wonderful time
of the year, but Christmas means
more to me because it’s a great
time to be loved and joyful. My
family’s traditions are joyful moments, healthy snacks and goodies. It’s a great feeling when the
relatives rush to the door and give
us a big hug. I also have a good feeling when they open their presents
because I like seeing their excited
faces.
Our family gathers in our living
room to eat snacks and watch movies. The kids play in the rooms. The
girls play with the girls, and the
boys hang out with the boys. The
family then gathers up for a wonderful family dinner. I have to help
serve it and give them what they
need, for example napkins, food,
and drinks. That’s why I think
Christmas is all about family.
Dillon Hanneman
What Christmas means to me is
joy. At Christmas time I love the
joy of going sledding. I enjoy everything about sledding. When I
go sledding I feel like, a fast running animal going down a snowy
hill feeling the snow ly in my face.
Then at the bottom of the hill I slip
and fall down and face plant and
then when I come up just feeling
the dripping snow and I just feel
free. When I get back up the hill
and repeat it then after a couple
times I just feel the rush in my
heart and I just can’t shake the
feeling that I’m a free animal.
At Christmas I enjoy going to
my cousin Spencer’s house. At his
house there is a really enormous
hill that every enjoyable year I
love going sledding on. It is so
steep that when we go down it it
feels like we are going down a hill
that goes almost straight downward. When we go down that hill
it is really hard not to face plant.
But we always face plant every
year but we might not face plant
once or twice. I enjoy everything
about Christmas but the thing that
gives me the most joy is sledding
at Christmas time.
Ben Hofmeister
Christmas means happiness to
me because my family comes. I
also get to tell a glorious story. On
Christmas morning I run downstairs to open my presents.
“Do you know what Christmas
really means?” I said to my mom.
She was just getting up.
Then she said, “Yes Christmas
means Jesus was born today a long
time ago.” After that, my whole
family came to the door and I told
them to come in. After we opened
a few presents I asked if I could
the tell story about how baby Jesus was born. My mom told me I
could.
“Once upon a time Mary and
Joseph were expecting to have a
baby. Then an angel came to Mary
and said name your baby Jesus.
Mary asked what if it’s a girl? He
said it will be a boy and he will become a king. After that, Mary and
Joseph traveled to Bethlehem. Nobody would let Mary and Joseph
stay at an inn. Then Mary and Joseph found a stable and stayed the
night there. After that, Mary had
baby Jesus. A star shined bright in
the sky that night and people came
to see the baby.”
My mom said I did a wonderful job telling the story. Christmas
means happiness because of people in my family and that baby Jesus was born a long time ago.
Faith Johnson
What Christmas means to me,
well I think it is love. I love it when
my whole family comes over. When
my aunt comes over she gives me
a huge hug and a kiss by my front
door. When Christmas comes I
think about my love for Jesus. I always have the same answer, I love
him a bunch. I love it when it is
Christmas night. I can’t wait until I
see what Santa left under the tree.
I hope you liked my Christmas
story and what Christmas means
to me, love.
Dylan Malone
Last night I saw Santa Claus
under the tree placing the smallest to biggest, one by one. To me
Christmas means happiness because everyone gets around the
Christmas tree. We sing songs.
Once we unwrap our presents, we
have a happy dinner. We have the
greatest turkey ever. We all drink
hot chocolate. When I start to feel
hot, steaming hot chocolate in my
mouth feel joyful.
Isaac Neubauer
What Christmas means to me is
joy. I feel joyful when Christmas
comes. At bedtime I love when I put
out a glass of milk and some cookies. It makes me happy when I get
up from bed and the cookies are
gone. Speaking about good food,
once a year I make gingerbread
men. I eat them by my crackling
ire. I offer some to my mom, dad,
and also my sister. The ire is hot
and is making me tired so it is bedtime. I like when I go to bed and
the gleaming lights are glowing. In
the morning I love when I open my
gifts. Joy is what Christmas means
to me.
Weston Nicholson
Christmas to me means happiness, baking stuff brings me much
happiness. I love making gingerbread cookies and houses on
Christmas Eve. The warm aroma
of fresh gingerbread from the oven
makes my mouth water just waiting for the tasty goodness.
Decorating them is even better because you get to put all the
stuff you like on it. On mine I put
some strips of licorice for the hair,
a mini peppermint for the gingerbread girl to hold, chocolate chips
for her nose and buttons, and last
but not lease some frosting. I love
the fresh scent when my mother
takes it out of the oven but it’s still
a three minute wait for it to cool.
It’s going to be spectacular.
Eating them is the best part and
sad part because there’s going to
be none left. Well I could just take
a picture with my Ipod so it will
last forever. It’s good because it
took so long to get to eat and now
I could inally eat it’s warm goodness. I put the gingerbread on a
plate, make a cup of hot chocolate
and started a Charlie Brown movie. Christmas to me means happiness – gingerbread with a cup
of hot chocolate, a snowy day, a
movie, a sister to watch the movie
with, presents from Santa Claus, a
perfect day.
Kenai Nielsen
People on Christmas are so kind
and generous and illed with happiness. There is a fantastic smell
on Christmas Eve. It is the smell
of fresh cookies coming out of the
oven, the smell of cocoa in your
hand with the glorious tree all set
up in front of you. Also the most
marvelous thing of all is the stable
with little happy Jesus inside. He
had the happiness no one did and
that is how he was fantastic.
The three gifts to Jesus were gold,
frankincense, myrrh and he was
so happy he felt happiness. After
Christmas night you see presents
under the tree and the cookies are
eaten. The beautiful tree attracts
your eye by the exact second you
walk in. You have happiness when
you see the terriic tree in front of
you. Have a generous Christmas.
Sam Reiling
To me Christmas means many
things, the thing it means most
to me is happiness. Having that
warm feeling in your heart and
hearing the wonderful music,
decorating the tree and looking at
all the beautiful lights people put
CPS

up around their houses all around
town, gives me the great warm
feeling of happiness.
At Christmas the happiest time
for me is baking cinnamon rolls
with my grandma and also making gingerbread men with her.
When they come out of the oven,
right away you can smell the delicious aroma of cinnamon, and ginger and all sorts of chocolates and
sweets all mixed in with a fresh
baked cookie. When you take a
bite it’s all warm and soft, cinnamon lavored, fresh baked, out of
the oven.
It’s also really delightful when
we dim the lights, put on music,
and decorate the Christmas tree
with glowing lights and cover it in
ornaments. Some of which we have
had since we were little and some
brand new ones. On Christmas Eve
night I get extremely excited to
open presents the next morning.
In the morning the irst thing I
do is run into the kitchen and eat
wafles with eggs and bacon. Then
we go open presents and look in
our stockings to see what Santa
brought. Then later after lunch,
our whole family meets at our
grandma and grandpa’s house. We
eat supper and open more presents and then talk and eat treats
and cookies. And the best part of
all, we celebrate the joy and happiness of being together. That is
all about what Christmas means
to me. Again, I think happiness is
the best way for me to describe
Christmas.
Olivia Riessen
Thankfulness. That’s what
Christmas means to me. I’m thank-
ful for a lot of things like, family
because they give us kids presents
for special holidays and birthdays, and they give us hugs. I have
thankfulness for Christ Jesus our
Lord because he gave us land and
we have a roof over our heads and
food on the table. I’m also thankful
for Christmas Eve because Santa
will come and there will be presents under the tree signed: Santa
Claus.
Let me tell you a story about
thankfulness and Christmas Eve.
One sensational Christmas Eve
night children were sleeping and
Santa was just leaving the North
Pole to ly. You could imagine his
cheerful laughter and him putting
presents under the tree in your
dream thinking about thankfulness of Christmas Eve. That night
wasn’t going so good because
Santa didn’t go to all of the houses.
Children weren’t being very thankful about Christmas because they
wondered if Santa had forgotten
about Christmas and everything.
What were the children going to
do? They decided to send a letter
to the elves, Santa, and Mrs. Claus.
They received a letter and it announced: Dear Children, I’m sorry
that I forgot about your houses
but I will bring them tonight when
you are sleeping. Now no peeking.
Merry Christmas. The children had
woken up and guess what they saw
under the tree…..presents. They
also saw a box that looked mysterious. They opened it and it was
an Elf-on-the-Shelf. The children
decided to name it Coco. Everyone
was blissful and thankful. The end.
I hope you learned a lesson. You

know I think Christmas is all
about thankfulness and family, not about presents. I know
it’s fun to receive presents, but
Christmas to me is about thankfulness.
Taylor Schable
Christmas is many things, but to
me it’s caring. I think it is caring
because if you think of family it
also has to do with Christmas. On
Christmas my whole family will
get together at my heartwarming
grandma’s house, and she always
has presents for us. We each get
a couple presents, and did I mention my aunt and uncle’s family
(all together) get a present and
so does my whole family?
If you think of Christmas you
probably know it is Jesus’s birthday. If you think about it Jesus
really cared for us. He made us,
gave us food, water, and a roof
over our heads. You never think

. . . meaning of Christmas
anyone would do something like
that for us.
Think, just think, about all the
things that you have. You either
bought them or you got them as
gifts. I know that you love and
appreciate your things but if you
are naughty and treat them disrespectfully, and also break them
Santa won’t come, and you won’t
get any presents. So if I were you
I would be nice to your belongings.
Now you’ve got the idea of
Christmas being caring, but that
is just what it means to me. Honestly there could be millions
of different feelings Christmas
could be.
Sadi Schirrmacher
To me Christmas means family. Because you spend time with
family most of your life, you need
to make that count at Christmas.
At Christmas my family gets together. We eat delicious pie and
sometimes we play in the snow.
We lay in the snow. The snow is
freezing and gentle. It’s so spectacular. Zane, Tyler, Larry, Mom,
and I love Christmas. When we
open presents. We play for a little.
Like the one time Mom and I got
one thing out and I almost lost
the cord. I was disappointed and
amazed. We go biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest when
we open presents. To me Christmas means family.
Brennen Sohm
How many times do you celebrate Christmas? I have three
Christmases every year. I have
one with my cousins and one
with my dad and one with my
mom. I feel happy because we
got presents. We got the presents
from under the tree from Santa.
My family and I ate cookies in the
TV room and watched Christmas
movies. We watched How The
Grinch Stole Christmas and Mar-
ley and Me, and The Puppy Years,
when he has Christmas. This is
how I celebrate Christmas every
year.
Tavin Totten
I’ll tell you about why I’m so excited at Christmas. I was so excited when Christmas Eve came to
town because I was going to my
grandma and grandpa’s house.
The explanation why we were going to my grandma and grandpa’s
house is we were going to open
presents. Now I’ll tell you something else. Sometimes all of the
excitement makes me so eager.
The reason why I am so eager
is that we were going to eat my
great grandmother’s angel food
cake. It’s the best. One more think
I am so excited about is when we
watch tv, but the reason we watch
tv is to see where Santa is at. Now
you know why I am so excited at
Christmas time.
Sophia Van Houten
Reindeer: Santa’s reindeer decide not to fly on Christmas Eve. What
is Santa Claus to do? Why, he calls in “The Reindeer Whisperer.”
Under the direction of Renee Fritz, the BC-IG Elementary third and
fourth grade students performed a fun holiday concert on Dec. 3.
Here, students dressed as the reindeer who wouldn’t fly perform
the song “It’s Time to Fly.” (Courier photo by Bethany Jones)
G-H fourth graders talk about visiting the North Pole
Students in Chad Hustedt’s
fourth grade class at Galva-Holstein answer: What would you do
if you could visit the North Pole?
If I could visit the North Pole I
would go to Santa’s Workshop.
I would play with his elves and
help them make presents. I would
also feed his reindeer. On the
night before Christmas I would go
with Santa and help him hand out
presents. When we were heading
back I got a chance to drive his
sleigh. When we got back I named
10 of the elves their names were
Charlie, Snowlake, Marshmallow, Cookie, Sparkle, Scout, Ralph,
Sugar, Hershy, and Lacy.
Madison Stowater
This is what I would do if I could
go to the North Pole. I would say hi
to Santa and look at his workshop.
I would also look at his raindeer.
Cayden Clausen
If I could go to the North Pole I
would irst go see Santa, his elves,
and the rain deer. Next, I would
build a snow fort and have a snow
ight with the elves. Then, I’d help
make the toys. Lastly, I would have
super then go to bed.
Jade Jochims
If I could visit the North Pole
I would see a lot of things. Like
his workshop. The irst thing I
would want to is how the heck he
eats all those cookies. Also how
does Santa it all the stuff in one
bag his bag must be as big as his
workshop. I would also want to
see how fast Santa’s elves work.
There tiny hands are like Santa.
David Knapp
If I were to visit the north pole
I would love to see the elves. They
would talk to me in their little
voices and I can emagine their
names being sparkle, tiny, buttercup, hershy, Ralph, and much
more. Then I would say goodbye
to the Jolly Guy, the reindeer, and
elves. J
Morgan Wright
If I could go to the North Pole I
would visit santa and I would see
all the elves, presents, and candy.
I would go see Rudolph and all the
other reindeer. I would see how
the elves make the presents. Then
I would ride in Santa’s sleigh. I
would ask Santa if I could have
one of his cookies.
Rhyann Rojas
If I got to go to the North Pole I
would go see the reindeer. Then,
I would go to the workshop and
help make toys. Then go to santa
and tell him Merry Chistmas.
Isaac Goettsch
If I visit the North Pole, it would
be a day come true. I would get
to see Santa, his workshop, his
sleigh, and elf, and of cource Rudolph. I would bring cookies and
milk for you because that what
you do right? I would love to go
to the North Pole when I see a
light signal. So I hope you like
those cookies because they are
my grandma’s favorite cookies.
Gael Parra
If I could visit the North Pole
I would go to the workshop. I
would go to the workshop cause I
want to see the little elfs at work.
I also want to see the reindeer.
Dancer, Prancer, Doner, Blitzen,
Comet, Cuped, Rudolph, Vixson,
and Dasher. My elf’s name is
Scout. I would also ask how the
elfs make the toys, and how the
reindeer ly.
Aubree Galvin
Dear Santa,
When you come to my house at
night, don’t you think other children wonder what you do in the
North Pole? If I went to the North
Pole I would ask you “How many
cookies have you ate in your life.”
I think you would say “You don’t
need to know.” Rudolph’s nose is
so bright that it blinded me. I saw
all the elfs making presents. I had
a good time at the North Pole.
Abigail Else
If I could go to the North Pole.
I would see Santa and his toys,
especially Rudolph and the other
Reindeer and elves. I would love
to see Rudolph. I’m his number
one fan. I would ask Santa for
toys. Since I’ve never been on the
Naughty List. I think he would
give me toys.
Daniel Mendoza
You wonder what Santa will
bring you. You might think you
will get a xbox, wii, or you might
get a play station, too. You wonder if Santa ate all the cookies or
drink all the milk. You wake up
early to open presents you are so
exsited, but your parents aren’t
awake so you wake them up and
open all your presents, but one.
Your parents say it is from them
so what do you do you open it.
Payton Wittrock
If I could visit the North Pole
irst I would visit Santa. Then I
would go see Rudolph. I would
help the elves make some toys.
Then before I leave I would ask
where my elves Ralf, Sugar, and
Jellybean live. Then I go to them
say hi and leave. I would ask Santa
for some milk and cookies for the
way home. Although I would be
sad, Santa would take me home
in his sleigh.
Kinzie Hagen
If I could visit the North Pole
I could see Santa. I would get to
go to the workshop and see the
elves. I would get to see Rudolph
the Red nosed Reindeer. I would
ask Santa if I could have an elve
on the shelf.
Kierstin Volkert
I’d like to see Santa, Rodolph,
and the other reindeer. I’d also
like to tell him that I want a Ipod,
Madden 16, and a Automatic Toy
Nerf Gun. I’d like to see his work-
shop with all the awsome presents he made. Then, I would ride
his slay with him give him a hug
and say Merry Christmas.
Ethan Mason
If I could go to the North Pole.
I would visit Santa’s work shop
and Santa’s barn that he keeps
his reindeer in. I would be awesome.
Ben Todd
If I got to go to the North Pole
I would ask Santa for a BB gun. I
would ask How do you make your
toys? How do you make your raindeer ly? How do you make good
cookies?
Carlos Argeta
If I visited the North Pole I
would go and see my elf and
Santa. I would visit Santa’s workshop. I would like to see lots of
presents for me.
Taya Phillips
If I could visit the North Pole I
would go visit Santa. I would tell
Santa what I want for Chrismas.
Then I would go to his workshop.
I would look at the stuff in his
shop. I would ask what they are
and if I can use it. Then I would
visit Dasher, Dancer, Prancer,
Vixeen, Comet, Cupid, Donner,
Blitzen and Rudolph and ask if
I can have a ride. After rideing I
would visit the elves. I would ask
if I can take a tour of the place.
Then ask if I can deliver presents with Santa. If I got to deliver prents with Santa I would
give everyone awsome presents.
When we would be heading back
I would ask if we can stay out a
little more. When I would be going I would ask if I can do it again
or take your place when your
done. On the plane I would check
my bag and ind a elf, a reindeer
and a present for Santa.
Asher Endrulat
I would want to see inside his
house. It would be a long trip,
probably 10 to 12 hours. I would
like to see Santa’s machines and
visit with the elves.
Jessie Naylor

Santa’s on vacation: Do away with naughty list, give presents while kids are bathing
Students in Chelsea Steil’s fourth
grade class and Cassie Reimers’
literacy class at Battle Creek-Ida
Grove answer: Imagine you took
Santa’s job this year; how would
you handle your magic voyage
around the world?
Don’t tell anyone but I’m going
to be Santa. Santa is on vacation
for this year. I’m in charge of taking care of his place for this year.
How awesome is that? Maybe
Santa would not mind if I told you
a little bit what I’m going to do. I
might eat all the cookies and milk
that all the nice little kids leave
me, and if you left me cookies and
milk you get lots of presents. I’ll
tell you two more things I’m going
to do. I feel sad when puppies and
animals don’t get presents so I’m
going to leave presents for pets
too. Ok this is the last thing I’m
going to tell you. All the kids get
free pets. Any pet they want. Dinosaurs, wolves, snakes, any pet.
Do you think I would be a better
Santa?
Glenda Jimenez
Santa is gone for Christmas.
This is what I’m going to do: First
I will save Santa some average size
cookies, next I well feed the reindeer at every continent, and tell
the elves who gets huge presents.
Then I would make sure everybody gets awesome presents.
Bradyn Barber
If I was Santa I would do
this…….. First, I would organize
the good boys and girls from the
bad boys and girls. I would put a
lot of magical gas in the sleigh so
it would be easier for the reindeer
to pull. I would start going on my
way to the other side of the world.
I would probably start at 6 a.m.
but would have to be really sneaky
and careful because people try to
look out their windows and try to
see me.
When I am on my way I will be
able to do magic. I would use magic to turn a cloud into food for the
reindeer to eat on their break. Well
I mean I would turn the top side to
grass so the people won’t be able
to see the grass on the top side. I
would let the deer eat the grass
for their snack. I would consider
for our break maybe one hour and
then be on our way.
When we would get to the other side of the world it would be
night and that would be the time
we would deliver the presents. I
would make sure that their are no
cameras watching me or a person
watching me then they could tell
everyone that they saw me and I
don’t want that. That rule is important to make sure no one is
watching me.
So then I would be on my way to
the other side of the world. I would
probably take a break if we had
time to do so. Mostly every year
we do but this Christmas is really, really busy. Usually we take a
20 minute break. Then I would be
on my way to the other side of the
world, and you know my business
to deliver the presents and the rule
that I told you about and all that
stuff. When I would be done delivering presents I would go back to
my house and relax and get ready
for next Christmas so next year
we wouldn’t be so behind like this
Christmas. Would you do the same
if you were Santa?
Silvia Buns
If I got to be Santa I would……..
go all the way to the other side of
the globe and give the kids giant
presents. If I was Santa I would
make sure there were no cameras,
because if there were I would not
leave presents at that home. The
best part about it would be getting
to devour the delicious cookies
and chug down the cold milk.
Another reason why it would
be awesome to be Santa is to be
able to organize the naughty and
nice list. Finally, the last reason
why I would like to be Santa is
that I would be able to organize
the naughty and nice list. Finally
the last reason why I would like to
be Santa is that I would be able to
steer Santa’s magic sleigh and take
three elves with me. That’s what I
would do if I were Santa.
Kylie Schluter
kids’ stockings with a lot of candy
and the mean kids’ stockings with
coal and liquid creamy chocolate.
Maybe you’ll be Santa someday.
Cooper Faulkenberry
Don’t tell anyone about this. I
am Santa for Christmas. If you are
nice you could get two presents. I
got to be Santa because he was too
old and the workshop was a mess.
My favorite part of the job is the
animals. I love the presents. Don’t
tell anyone about this. [Ps This is
awesome.]
Dillon Weeda
A day in the life of Santa would
be the best thing ever. I would be
really, really excited. I would handle it because I would feed myself
every minute with other people’s
cookies and milk. It would feel
I want to be Santa this year. I
would say no more black coal, and
give the elves gold stars. I could let
the children see me as Santa and
eat a lot of yummy fruit. I can work
with my elves. I will look after the
children too. I would have a good
time being Santa.
Chloe Jamison
I have the biggest secret in the
world. I’m Santa. As Santa I would
make sure my naughty or nice list
is organized properly. Then I would
make all the presents and put them
in my magic sleigh and start my
journey around the world. Next I’d
pick two elves to come with Mrs.
Clause and I. My elves and I would
land the sleigh on the top of the
house and slip down the chimney
landing with a loud thump. So now
that you know don’t tell anyone.
Merry Christmas.
Avery Behrendsen
I would be excited to be Santa.
I wouldn’t tell anyone that I am
Santa. I wouldn’t buy the presents
from the stores. I would have my
elves make the presents. I would
eat all of the cookies. I would drink
all of the milk. I would work with
the elves and Mrs. Clause. I would
enjoy it if people would come to
visit me. It would be creepy if I
mixed up all of the presents, so I
hope I don’t. Maybe you could be
Santa for a day.
Jayden Renze
Guess what? I’m Santa. It will
be fun to be Santa. It would be my
little secret. Only my mom would
know that I’m Santa. Not many
people would know that I’m Santa.
I think I would do pretty well. I
would put everything in order and
put in place. I would be nice to the
elves and the children. I think I will
make a great Santa.
Caidan Klinger
Do you want to be Santa? Well I
am. The reason is, Santa went on
vacation. What’s awesome is I’m
going to ride a sled driven by magic
reindeer named Rudolph, Dasher,
Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. I’d get to
see all the presents being made by
the elves. Next, I’ll decide who gets
and doesn’t get presents.
Then I’d ly all around the world
delivering presents while eating
and sipping milk and cookies. Instead of going down the chimney
I’ll use magic and go through the
walls. After I ate the cookies I’ll
want my teeth clean so, I’ll bring a
toothbrush. Then I will ill the nice
great. I would think I’d be able to
do it myself. I would give pets presents, too, because they are so cute.
Being Santa for a day would be the
best day of my life.
Ethan Frank
Don’t tell anyone but I’m Santa.
This is how I would handle being
Santa. First I would feel kind of
happy and nervous. Next all the
people I’ll work with are the elves.
Then to keep my big secret, I’ll try
not to tell people. Next I’ll have my
elves help to try to get all the presents that the good kids got in the
‘’door’’. Please don’t tell anyone my
really big secret. Thanks.
Erika Swanger
Don’t tell anyone but I’m the
chubby guy this year. I would give
them their presents when they’re
in the bath so they would be surprised when they got out of the
bath. I would get in and eat all the
cookies. I would eat in the living
room and watch TV. I would bring
them a new couch.
I would give everyone presents
and then I would hide them and
give them more presents. I would
take everyone on a ride on the
sleigh. I would be very nice and get
everyone new furniture. I would
give the kids video games, scooters, and bikes. That is how my
Christmas being Santa for a year.
Julia Stephen
Hey, guess what? Don’t tell anyone, but I’m Santa this year. Since
I’m Santa I will be very careful
with the fragile toys like electronics and stuff like that, so please
leave out milk and cookies for me,
and carrots for the reindeer. I will
build all the toys that you get from
me. I will make a list of who’s good
and who’s bad. I will make sure the
elves build all the toys right and if
they don’t I will build them my self.
When Christmas comes I will make
sure the sleigh lies right. Then I
will squeeze down your chimney
and give you your presents. Please
keep my secret.
Leyton Rohlk
Don’t tell anyone, but this year
I’m Santa. Every year Santa chooses a kid to give out presents. This
year he chose me. I’ve got all the
reindeer latched onto the sleigh. I
give horrifying clowns and black
coal to kids and adults on the
naughty list, but kids on the nice
list get what they want, so be good
for goodness sake. My real job is
feeding the reindeer. We get along
pretty well. Maybe that’s why he
chose me. Just so we’re clear, don’t
tell anyone, it could ruin my whole
reputation.
Makala Zeka
First of all, if you are reading this
right now and are Santa put the
story down. This year I took Santa’s job and tried to make it easier.
We all know Santa has magic powers, so I had an idea to use them to
make a teleporter. No one knows if
Mrs. Clause has a job so I made sure
she had one this year. She would be
the one to program the teleporter
to go to everyone’s houses.
Later, on Christmas Eve it all
went wrong. We tested the teleporter to make sure it worked and
it exploded. Next we had to move a
big, thick, red bag of presents to my
sleigh, which took a huge amount
of time. On Christmas Eve it was all
loaded so I took off, and I delivered
all of the gifts to the boys and girls
of the world in what I think was record time. I guess I thought some-
thing good would happen, but I
guessed wrong. If you are reading
this and are Santa it is not true.
(P.S. I am Santa.)
Mason Gunderson
Did you know that I’m going to be
Santa this year? I would feel happy
because I would get milk and cookies. I would work for elves. I would
ask for Santa’s naughty and nice
list too. I would ask for Santa’s help
with feeding the reindeer. I would
like being Santa this year.
Miguel Contreras-Zermeno
Don’t tell anyone. Guess what?
If I were Santa I would have elves
with me to deliver presents so I
know where to go. If I was Santa
I’d probably be worried but I also
wouldn’t be worried because I’d
get a lot of cookies. I would love to
get to go to my BFF’s houses and
give them presents.
If people had ires under their
chimneys I’d sneak in the door
or in the window. If I were Santa
I’d give my friends and family the
most presents. If any kids were
naughty I’d give them coal and
wood to teach them to be nice. Do
you know why I was talking about
Santa so much? I am Santa this
year.
Caitlyn Ulrich
To begin, don’t tell anybody, but I
am Santa. This is a story about my
magic journey. I am going to make
it really easy like eating cookies. Oh yeah I almost forgot, it’s
Christmas Eve. I have to transport
almost a billion Christmas presents. It’s going to be hard. I feel a
little frustrated but not much as I
feel much more happy if you know
what I mean. It was exciting meeting Rudolph. I also had fun playing
in the snow when i fell in the snow.
It was fun being Santa for the day.
You should try it. Still don’t tell
anybody about our secret.
Triston Petersen
If I could be Santa for a year I
would call Odd Squad to help me
carry out this voyage around the
world. Doing this job as Santa
would make me feel very happy
because it makes all the children
happy. I would use the tube system
to send presents and shoot them

G-H second graders prepare their homes for Christmas
Students in Dina Mitchell’s second grade class at Galva-Holstein
answer: How do you prepare your
house for Christmas?
Colten Rohlk - We clean the
house. We set out cookies for Santa. We set up the Christmas tree
and we put on the bulbs. We put
up all the decorations and stockings. We write the Christmas list.
We always put out carrots for the
reindeer.
Carter Todd - I love Christmas.
I get the trees out and we decorate
them. Hermy the elf comes and always gets into trouble. I get presents for my family. My dad needs
to buy a ladder to put up lights.
Natalie Madsen - I love getting
ready for Christmas. First, I set up
my tree. Then I set up the lights.
We set out our red rug. Then we
decorate the tree. Then I set up
the decorations that say my name.
Then we put up the star. We set up
my dog Jesse. She is a half Husky
and half Rottweiler. Her decoration is a bone.
Somer Dawn DeYoung - We
do these things to get ready for
Christmas: buy Christmas presents, make pictures for Santa, get
out Christmas movies, and hang
handprints.
Zoey Aschinger - We put the
Christmas lights up. We put the
stockings up. We keep track of the
days on a calendar and it is very
cool. We also put the tree up.
Tate Stehr - We put lights up
outside. We put up three Christmas trees. We decorate Daddy’s
tree with Herky at the top.
Trevor Goettsch - We put up a
Christmas tree. I put decorations
up. We make handprint ornaments
every year. We put the star on top
of the tree.
Jack Jochims - We put up the
Christmas tree. We clear off the
sidewalk.
Kellen Clausen - For Christmas
we set up a Christmas tree and
decorate it. Then the Christmas
music come on and the Christmas
lights. We check the calendar every day. We make snowman outside, make pictures for Santa, and
celebrate Jesus’ birthday. Keaton,
Matt and Ambria come and visit
us on Christmas and Grandma and
Papa come too so the whole family can see us open presents. The
end.
Chaz Henkel - 1. Buy decorations 2. Make cookies 3. Buy presents 4. Open presents.
Cole Jochims - We put cookies
out for Santa. We have to get the
Christmas list ready for Santa.
Lights have to get bought and put
up. Olaf the elf on a shelf comes
and does naughty things.
Caleb Hagen - My sister and I
make handprints. We set up the
tree with decorations. Frosty the
Snowman gets set up. We buy
Christmas presents and watch
Christmas movies.
Aaron Kirchner - We put up a
Christmas tree and put lights on it.
We put the gingerbread thing on
the tree. Mom needs to get batteries for the Grandma got ran over
by a reindeer decoration. We get
out all of our Christmas movies.
Socks get put up. Of course we
write our Christmas lists.
Linkin Beeck - 1. Buy Christmas presents 2. Put lights up 3.
Put the tree up 4. Wake up all the
time saying, “Is it Christmas?”
Damon Venteicher - We put up
lights. We put up a tree. We bake
cookies and play Christmas music.
Addison Tesch - We hang up
Christmas lights and clear off the
sidewalk. We wrap Christmas
presents. Everyone helps decorate
the tree and put up the star or angel. And remember, Christmas isn’t
about you, it’s about Jesus.

I want a dollhouse and a princess Halloween costume for
Christmas. I want a race track
for Dakota. I like you, Santa.
Thank you.
Lizzy Reisdorfer
Dear Santa,
I would like a princess dollhouse, some blocks, and a Barbie doll that has a big, blue
dress. Your reindeer are pretty.
I love you, Santa.
Amayah Grundy
Dear Santa,
You are very nice and I think
you wear red because that is a
Santa color. You are nice to give
your elves fun work to do and to
give us presents. For Christmas,
I would like a Batman robot and
a Joker tank and a Robin motorcycle. I want an I-pod and a
talking Minion too. Thank you
and I love you.
Brody Schiernbeck
Dear Santa,
For Christmas, I want an Ipad and a computer. I would
like some colorful blocks to
play with and a Lego Barbie...I
saw them on a commercial so
you will know what they are. I
love you, Santa.
Jakinzi Krayenhagen
Dear Santa,
I want two dinosaurs and a
boat and a helicopter with two
people. They are all in the same
box at Bomgaars in Ida Grove.
That is where I saw them. I
would also like the remote control dinosaur that can move his
head around...he’s at Bomgaars
too. I would like any Jurassic
Park dinosaurs. What do your
reindeer do all year long while
they are waiting for Christmas?
What is your favorite thing to
eat? My favorite food is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I’ll see you when I come to Santa’s Castle with my class. I love
you.
Kolt Spotts
Dear Santa,
I would like a ballerina for
Christmas and I would like a
stuffed animal and I would like
the one of the Letter People
puppets.I would also like a hug
from you because you are very
handsome. I will see you when I
come to Santa’s Castle with my
friends. I love you, Santa.
Avery Ernst
Dear Santa,
I would like a green tractor
for Christmas. I would also like
a cement truck. I am wondering what it looks like where
you live. Do you live in a big
house? Is there a cookie store
there? There is a cookie store
near Santa’s Castle where I will
see you. I love you, Santa.
Sam Parks
Dear Santa,
For Christmas, I want some-
thing that I can share with my
brother Cooper...a little pretend
pistol that makes noise. I would
also like another controller for
our Playstation. Thank you...I
love you.
Bodi Eason
Dear Santa,
I like you because you are
nice and friendly. Thank you
for giving me toys because I am
not naughty. I know that you
like me and I like you, but my
sister and brother think you
look creepy. I would like a toy
pony for Christmas and a new
Monster High dolly. I love you,
Santa.
Olivia Bengford
Dear Santa,
For Christmas, I would like
a toy ninja, and some marbles,
and a red tractor, and that’s all I
think. I like you.
Logan Lantz
Dear Santa,
I would like a toy chair, and a
Barbie who I will name Pinkie,
and a toy Santa with toy reindeer and a toy sled. I love you,
Santa. Thank you. You are my
best friend because you make
me happy all day.
