The Pope makes this announcement as part of his upcoming Holy Year of Mercy, beginning on December 8, marking the 50th anniversary of Vatican II’s closing to remind us all, as he has said earlier, “the church is the house that welcomes all and refuses no one.” In reflecting on this theme of Reconciliation and Mercy, Pope Francis wrote that “the forgiveness of God cannot be denied to one who has repented, especially when that person approaches the Sacrament with a sincere heart in order to obtain reconciliation with the Father.” We are all in need of God’s mercy. As a priest, I have been reminded so often of the power of this Sacrament of Forgiveness and renewal with God and others decided to leave. That was their free choice. And Jesus respected their freedom by letting them go. We have the same choice to make. Will we follow Jesus no matter what, or will we abandon our faith in him if his ways become too uncomfortable? Let’s heed the call of Joshua in today’s first reading: “Choose today whom you wish to serve!” Life Teen coordinators Drew David and John Listi put on aOn training retreatRest last Sunday for To Eternal the Life Teen Core who Our prayers andmembers sympathy go out will to thebe assistingfamilies with theof:program in the coming Theodule Noel and Father year.
