Adri is sakepersoon van die jaar
gang gesit. Met sy hulp het ons vinnig 22
kamers gehad. Ek het orals advies gaan vra oor
die hoe en wat. Meeste mense het ons afgeraai
en gesê dat hierdie net 'n wit olifant sal wees
en nooit sal werk nie. Ons het egter besluit dat
ons nou so ver is en dat daar net een weg is en
dit is vorentoe! Ek het baie boeke gelees sodat
ek die industrie kon verstaan en het myself
opgelei.
Die Tzaneen Country Lodge het binne drie
maande sy begroting gehaal, en van daar af het
ons nooit teruggekyk nie. Vandag het Tzaneen
Country Lodge 50 kamers, 'n restaurant en
dameskroeg, ons gewilde Sondagmiddagetes;
'n gesondheidssentrum met Spa, verskeie konferensiesale en is ook die ideale plek vir

DIE jaarlikse IDP vergadering vir wyk 14 word
op 4 April om 18:00 by Fairview Hotel gehou.
Alle inwoners en sakepersone in wyk 14
moet asseblief deeglik kennis neem daarvan.
Wyk 14 sluit in Manorvlei, Aquapark, Premierpark, Politsi, Vreedzaam, Maribethema.
Die vergadering word gehou ter beplanning
van ontwikkeling wat in ooreentemming met
die munisipaliteit se begroting moet plaasvind.
Met ander woorde, dit is die geleentheid vir
betalers van munisipale belasting en dienste
om behoeftes in hulle wyk aan te dui.
Dink byvoorbeeld aan die wenslikheid van
stopplekke vir busse in Aquapark, verkeers- en
inligtingstekens, versorging van strate, sny van
veldgras ensovoorts.
Alle munisipale aangeleenthede waaroor
belastingbetalers gedurende die jaar so ontevrede is en kla. Hierdie jaarlikse vergadering
is die gemeenskap se geleentheid om dit alles
formeel, amptelik op die munisipaliteit se
werkslys te plaas.
Enige voorstelle vir verbeterings in ons wyk
14 is welkom.
In die verlede was dit altyd in Politsi gehou,
met die gevolg dat die vergaderings uiters swak
bygewoon is deur die grootste kontingent
betalende inwoners.
Gerieflikheidshalwe sal die vergadering nou
gehou word te Fairview, op Woensdag 4 April
om 18:00.
Komiteelede van wyk 14 sal tydens die
vergadering elk ‘n 2 minute verslag doen oor
hul onderskeie portefeulje’s. Dus ook ‘n goeie
geleentheid vir die inwoners om die komitee te
ontmoet.
‘n Beroep word dringend op belastingbetalers gedoen om die vergadering by te
woon.

Prosecutor in court
for corruption

AS A result of the Easter weekend in April

A PUBLIC prosecutor at Ritavi Magistrate's
Court appeared before the same court on
Monday in connection with a case of corruption.
Prudence Caroline Mashele allegedly demanded R 1000 from a common robbery
suspect earlier this month.
Provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant
Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said it is alleged
the robbery suspect was sentenced to eight
months imprisonment or R800 fine during a
trial that was prosecuted by Mashele.
"After the sentencing, the prosecutor approached the robbery convict indicating that
he got a lesser sentence because of her efforts.
He was then told to pay her R1000. R500 was
allegedly raised and given to the prosecutor
with the pledge that the balance will be paid at
a later stage," said Ramatseba.
The prosecutor allegedly pestered the complainant demanding the remaining R500.
Ramatseba said the matter was finally
brought to police's attention which led to her

Chaos still reigns
in Modjadjiskloof
DISGUSTING, Dark, Dusty and Dry Duiwelskloof, so
writes a resident:
In response to the article in last week's Letaba Herald, I
wanted to write a comment last week when I read the article
on the water supply or lack thereof in Duiwelskloof, I
thought I would give the municipality another chance this
past weekend to see if they actually lived up to their word,
and they didn't.
Disgusting, well what else can you call a town where
there is often raw sewerage running in the streets after the
town was given a large sum of money to rectify this concern
and the residents of the town were inconvenienced many a
time during the so called upgrade of the sewerage system
which is still not operational after a few years. It is rumoured
that the Municipality received R20 000 000 to upgrade the
sewerage system, only a rumor of course.
Dark, although this is not only a Duiwelskloof issue, the
town is often without electricity for no reason at all.
Dusty, again it is only a rumor, but the municipality
apparently received R5 000 000 for upgrading or rectification of the towns roads, instead a new municipal
building was put up.
A nice new fancy building for a disfunctional municipality. It seems though that the roads are now finally
getting some attention, although the company contracted
to repair to roads leaves the streets in a shocking condition
after repairing a road.
The same company acquired a road contract in Tzaneen
a road which after less than a years usage was already full
of potholes, it let's you wonder how long the new
Duiwleskloof roads will last when eventually completed.
Now for the exciting part, DRY , just as I thought when
reading last weeks article, yet again this weekend we were
again sitting without water in Duiwelskloof.
Why is it that every Sunday for the last few months is there
no water in Duiwelskloof, why? Thats easy, because the
Staff responsible for ensuring that there is water in the
reservoir do not like to work on Sunday. My wife has called
and spoken to Samuel Malatji who told her that they do not
pump on Sundays.
This Sunday past March 25, at around 10:00 there was no
water in the taps. Upon calling both numbers in last week's
news paper all I got was voicemails. The first went directly
to voicemail then the second rang for some time then went
to voicemail. Later the afternoon when I called again, the
first went again directly to voicemail, on the second attempt
on the second number I reached a person who advised that
there was a break in the water pipes which they were fixing.
How amazing is it that everytime there is a concern it is on
a Sunday. Now to really add fuel to the fire, my domestic
worker who lives at Magoba village NEVER HAS THIS
PROBLEM. Why is it that the rates and tax payers who are
actually paying for water delivery are not getting it, and
those that are getting it for free and getting all they need. It
has come to the point that we have gone back thirty or fifty
years and erect water tanks on your property to allow you to
store water for the days the municipal workers or Lepelle
Water Board don't feel like pumping water.
I bought my property in Duiwelskloof to be closer to my
mother in law and really enjoy staying there, but due to the
extremely poor service delivery I want to move to Tzaneen,
but cannot get a decent price for my property in order to
move to Tzaneen, as is the case with most people there I
think. Who wants to move to a town with all the above
concerns as well as streets that are poorly maintained by
municipal workers? Grass is hardly ever cut, streets are dirty
with litter everywhere, and the town itself is just dirty and
untidy.
Lastly, I say Duiwelskloof, not Modjadjiskloof, not because I am trying to hold on to the past but simply as with
most service delivery issues in South Africa these days the
post office is just as bad. If you address a letter to
Modjadjiskloof , it goes to Modjadji, even if you put the
correct postal code on the envelope.
Lets see if the municipality can restore the nice little town
to it's former glory, but I seriously doubt it.

fokus ook op finansiële advies en nie op
produkte nie."

"Daar staan geskryf: Doen aan ander wat jy

ABOUT 200 guests attended the annual
Prestige Awards function of the Tzaneen
Chamber of Commerce at the Letaba River
Lodge on Thursday.
Main sponsors of the evening, Avuxeni, gave
a short presentation on the company’s activities in the Limpopo Province at the function
where numerous merit awards were presented
while the top business people in the area were
also rewarded for their excellence in entreprenuership.
It was rather dissappointing that neither the
Mayor nor the Municpal Manager arrived for
this prestigeous evening after both confirmed
their attendance. Fortunately Councillor Cassuis Machimane was present and he did the
official welcoming as acting Mayor on a very
short notice.
Up to date no official apology was received
by either ladies. The Chamber engages with the
municipality on a continuous basis with matters of interest to business and the broader
community and this slap in the face will
certainly tarnish the excellent working relationship between the two parties which was
built up over a long period.
However, the evening was a resounding
success and is undoubtedly the highlight on the
social calender for business locally.
During the function the newly elected President of the Chamber, Rona McGaffin, shared
her vision for the year with the guests. Mahatma Ghandi’s favourite quote "Be the change
you want to see" will be the Chamber’s slogan
for the year.
During an auction for charity, conducted by
Gerhard van de Ende, an amount of R11 800
was raised.

"Die salon het so bietjie van 'n "make over" gehad in
2010. Al ons kliënte was so geduldig met die aanbouings in

moeite werd gewees. Ons nuwe baadjie kan ons met trots
aantrek en dis net 'n plesier om elke dag werk toe te kom.

familie wat saam werk.
Hier is 'n skoonheidssalon, koffiewinkel en Ilona in die

die administrasie en aankope van die besigheid - van
kliënte verwelkom en personeeldinge tot die binnenshuis
versiering."

Hulle hardloop Oos-Moot dronk en gaan kuier
op die ou einde 10 keer agter hulle opponent

Met die hele span wat puik rugby gespeel
het, is dit moeilik om spelers uit te sonder,
maar die kaptein Don Mlondobozi wat 'n
driekuns aangeteken en die heelagter, Marcel
Scholtz, wat self 2 drieë gedruk het en 8 vervyf
het, het egter die oog gevang.
Verder het 'n ou staatmaker, Dewet Botha
ook vir die eerste keer vanjaar op die veld
gedraf en 'n duidelike verskil aan die pak
voorspelers gemaak. Aan die einde van die
wedstryd wen die Vossies met 66 - 0.

Die O/16A-span kom teen 'n gedugte teenstander te staan, maar is op die ou einde te

ook hulle wedstryd met 27 - 0.
Die onder 15-groep kom egter tweede beste
van hulle wedstryde af, die O/15A's wat met
15 - 30 die onderspit delf en die O/15B -span
wat ook hulle wedstryd verloor (12 -21).
Die O/14-groep het gemengde welslae. Die
A- span wen hulle wedstryd met 26 - 3, terwyl
die B-span ongelukkig die knie moet buig met
10 - 19. Die Vossies wen dan 6 van hulle 9
wedstryde.
Na die vakansie vind die finale in Potchefstroom plaas. Die O/14A-, O/16A- en B-, 2de
span en die 1ste span speel vir eerste/tweedeplek, die O/15A- en B-spanne speel

The netball girls played extremely well, their determination
and discipline will be remembered long after the scores
are forgotten.
The U/16A team, U/17A & Bteam and second team won their

The first team girls played a
challenging game goal for goal but time ran out before the Plasies
could even the score with 20 - 21
for Montana.
The rugby boys had a challenging day improving their
scores from last season immensely.

When all else fails on a fly fishing trip to Mongolia
By Howard Blight
SIX of us left our shores late last year, headed
for North West Mongolia. This is a fly fisherman's ultimate destination. The aim? To
catch the world's largest trout, The Taiman
(Hucho Taiman). They reach up to1,8meters
long and can go to 90kg.
Two Aussies, a Frenchman and three farmers
from Limpopo and Mpumalanga did the research for this epic journey. So, well advised
and kitted-up, off we went, full of good cheer
and high expectations.
We flew from OR Tambo to Dubai, on to
Beijing, then Ulaanbaatar, and again on to
Moron; and then 5 hours in a Rissian 4x4 into
the mountains to a destination 40km South of
the Russian boarder in North West Mongolia.
We were on the Tsaaganuur river.
This is Genghis Khan Country in every sense
of the word and one of the remotest places on
earth. Stark beauty with pastel colours etched
onto the mountains and in September the
Larch trees have turned to burned orange on
the North facing slopes.
Vast open plains surrounded by spectacular
mountain landscapes where temperatures
drop to minus 30 degrees C for 8 months of the
year.
Land locked Mongolia spans an area of 1,5
million square kilometers between Russia and
China with generally high altitude desert conditions prevailing. Less than 1% of the land is
cultivated by a population of only 2.5 million
people who are mostly old style traditional,
nomadic herdsman, moving constantly with
their flocks of sheep, yaks, horses and camels.
It's tough living in Mongolia.
But in these high mountainous regions, in
remote snow-melt rivers, lives Lenoc Trout and
Asian Greyling, (averaging 1 - 3 kg) and the
world's largest trout, The Taiman.
Taiman are generally caught on fly and
always released by sport anglers. They are a
threatened species and there is strong conservation ethic around protecting these magnificent animals.
In September one can't start fishing before
10 in the morning, as prior to this the eyes of
your rod freeze closed.
For 3 days we had great success with Lenoc
and Greyling, but no Taiman.
By now my patience was running a little
thin.
That night we had a wolf visit the camp. I lay
awake thinking.
With the disappointment of the previous 3
days behind me and following my life-long
philosophy of ' there's no such this as disappointment, only opportunity', on the morning of the forth day I took myself back to my
African roots. If you want to catch a big fish catch a small fish first. Live bait fishing seldom
fails.
With a small red-headed nymph I stalked a
half pound Greyling in a fast flowing section of
the river. As it took they fly the fish swirled in a
silver fury, rolling sideways against the stony
bed of the river.
I then tied a double -hook, live - bait rig and
with the Greyling attached, I offered the fish to
a large 2 meter deep pool below the rapids
near our camp.
It wasn't 4 minutes before all hell broke
loose. A Taiman had taken the bait. The 18kg
fish leapt spectacularly through the surface of
the 1 degree C water and took off downstream
on a mission.
What a thrill.
On the opposite bank there was a herd of 18
wild horses, with the stallion in charge disciplining the mares. Two wooly-coated,
double humped, camels grazed on the hill
behind me and a single Asian vulture soared
high above this remote wilderness scene.
It was idyllic and awesome in every sense.
Twenty minutes later after a strong fight, the
Taiman was guided to the pebbled river's
edge and I knelt down and touched the fish.
Its massive head seemed out of proportion to
its dark, speckled body and orange tail and
fins.
In submission, the fish lay quite still. I
removed the hook, took some pix and eased
this great central Asian predator back into the
flow of the icy river.
With one flick of its giant tail and in a swirl of
water, it was gone; descending into the murky
depths of its icy home range.
After this, Ian and Marion Maclaughlin also
each caught a large Taiman on Greyling
fillets.
George Lenses my specialist, purist, fly fishing friend and guide from France was horrified, so we fed him a few Valium and some
rum that evening. But we caught and he
didn't.
We laughed and drank brandy and Yak
yoghurt and ate grilled Lenoc and horse meat
for dinner. We drank tea with sheep's milk and
talked about our experiences and the wonderment of being in this faraway place surrounded by its gentle people.
We bid the Taiman, the Yaks and the Mongolians we had met, farewell and many thank
yous.
Genghis Khan certainly made his people
proud and Mongolia's Genghis beer
quenched our thirst in the dry mountainous
atmosphere.

Kings Court learners is above average
THE 2011 Grade 6 learners of The King's Court
Preparatory School took part in a national IEB
(Independent Schools Examination Board) core
skills test.
The test is aimed at assessing the national
averages for Grade 6 learners in the areas of
language, mathematical thinking, visual literacy and complex thinking.
A total of 2992 learners participated nationally in the assessment of these core skills
areas.
The Grade 6 learners of The King's Court
Preparatory School's class average was one
percent above the national average for Grade 6
learners of IEB (Independent) schools.
Two learners, Estian Botha and Timothy
Hoffman also scored in the 99th percentile
which placed them under the top 30 Grade 6

Stanfordians enjoy Regatta Day
STANFORD Regatta Day was extremely successful and as lively as ever this year. Each class had
to choose a country and had to report back to the school on the country’s Human Rights. The
theme of “Cartoons at the Olympics” was carried out with great enthusiasm. The Gr11 Tarzan
group won the decorating, the rafting and the tug of war, with the Matrics close behind. It was
wonderful seeing the participation and excitement from everyone, especially the new Gr8’s and
the Unicorn Gr7’s who enjoyed a taste of what is to come. The Stanford V-Show was also very
entertaining as many of our students show-cased their tremendous talent, which included
singing, dancing, poetry and instrumentals. Thank you to the Stanfordian Parents’ Committee
for organising and putting together such a great day.

Pilusa does well
in Zim rally
A TZANEEN based rally driver participated in
the Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally in Harare recently and finished in seventh place.
The 56 year old Peter Pilusa from Moyakayaka says his aim was not about winning
but just finishing the race.
Pilusa and his Zimbabwean navigator
George Chitepo in their Nissan 140 GX finished in third place in Class C and seventh
place in the overall challenge.
"It was a life time experience. It was my first
time participating in the Toyota Zimbabwe
Challenge Rally and I am happy I finished it. I
wish to compete again next year," says Pilusa.

sporting discipline for the white population,
but Pilusa is on a mission to discredit this
misconception.

Local rally driver represented South Africa in the Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally in Harare
recently. Peter Pilusa successfully finished the race in his Nissan 140 GX.

Moosa under first ten in Total rally
LOCAL Rally enthusiast, Mohammed Moosa and Andre Vermeulen ended in 8th position during
the Total Rally. Dust clouds, cheering fans and the treacherously slippery gravel roads of
KwaZulu-Natal's central and South Coast sugar cane fields characterised the 54th edition of the
season-opening Total Rally. Mohammed Moosa and Andre Vermeulen (car number #13)
persevered on Day Two of the Total Rally to fight their way up the standings from their overnight
16th place position after Moosa suffered from mechanical gremlins in his Auris S2000. Moosa
set threateningly fast stage times on his way back up the leader board, and after Day Two's ten
stages he ended eighth position overall
