•A New Vision… A New Commitment
A Vision is a Powerful Brand
A vision statement is a concise statement that summarises the
purpose and goals of an organisation’s commitment to creating
a healthy working culture. Taking time to clarify and formulate
our organisation’s vision can also provide a focus and consistent
direction of our strategies in the years to come. The vision statement
will remind managers and employees of the link between employee
participation and the organisation’s ability to achieve its overall
mission.
In fact a vision is a powerful first step to branding implementation
i.e. in bringing a healthy culture of an idea into reality.

With this partnership, Pernec will become the leading

The concept of a CRM system has become increasingly important in recent years. CRM involves the various processes taken to track and organise contacts with

The comprehensive convergent billing system has

CRM is not just a technology. It is a comprehensive,

DALISM
T
he vandalism of public payphones is of growing concern across the nation and
to this end, Pernec, as a responsible ser vice provider, is planning
to organise an awareness programme
on how to combat this crime. To be
launched soon, this CSR programme
is aimed at deterring payphone vandals from committing this despicable
act and reducing the incidence of payphone vandalism within the community.
Pernec PayPoint’s new CEO, Tengku
Asmaluddin described public payphones as still being one of the most
convenient ways of communicating,
especially in rural areas where cellular coverage is still
ver y poor. “However, this convenient
communications
tool is, more often
than not, a victim
of vandalism or
fraud,” he stated.
He said the Helo
Payphones
were
constantly undergoing maintenance works due to vandalism and fraud apart from natural environmental conditions.
“Vandalism is perpetrated in many
forms: breaking of glass at booths,
breaking of coin boxes, the use of foreign coins or objects, broken handsets
that are either ripped out entirely or
broken in several places and left in
pieces. Most prevalent now at the Helo
phone booths are the pasting of illegal
advertisements by loan sharks.”
He added that the continuous damage to payphones and handsets have
contributed to high maintenance costs
per payphone. Due to this, payphone
operators cannot afford to reduce the
telephone rates that should be enjoyed
by the public at large.
He added, “Vandalism is a perennial
problem”. There is no single definition
and no model solution on how to totally eliminate this
problem. Its direct
costs amount to
millions of ringgit yearly, and
its wider effects
range from inconvenience and discomfort, to many
actual unfortunate
incidents to the
public. Considerable energy and resources have been
directed at understanding why vandalism takes place at all and Pernec PayPoint will continuously devise preventive schemes to reduce the incidence
of vandalism currently.

not have ownership of the media (e.g. documents, files, manuals, books, etc) wherein the knowledge resides : these belong to
the respective departments or personnel who contribute the documents, etc, into the knowledge database.
The department needs to know the processes to manage Pernec’s knowledge wealth by:
PERNEC’S KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT(KM)
DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED
In the Change Management exercise, begun in 2006, one objective set was Managing Organisational Knowledge. In mid-July
2008, the Knowledge Management Department was setup to
look into this objective. In November 2008, the KM Policy was
created.
1. understanding and focussing on how Pernec identifies, creates, captures, shares and leverages on knowledge.
2. identifying or coming up with systematic processes to support these activities which enable replication of successes.
The objective of the department is to create a knowledgesharing culture and to manage the sharing of knowledge,
1. The processes to enable the evolution or change towards a
culture of knowledge-sharing in Pernec

As the objective is culture-change, a KM system (KMS) is
mandator y. This KMS includes:
INFO & ACTIVITY
2. A KMS application, which has the following functions/characteristics:
a. It is available to every Pernec
user (‘user’ as defined in the Pernec IT Policy).
b. It should facilitate users to
contribute to the knowledge
database but provide filtering
mechanism through authorised
personnel or knowledge controllers or moderators.
c. Users can send their contribution to these moderators.
d. Users can keep track on what
they have sent and its status.
e. It facilitates search for knowledge in the local and external
knowledge database(s).
f. It has the ability to produce relevant statistics on KMS utilisation.
Resource problems prevented an initial
attempt to develop the KMS Application
but a knowledge repository and information sharing initiative has recently been
set up.
CHALLENGES/OBSTACLES
The challenges/obstacles faced by the
KM department are:
1. To develop a KMS suitable for Pernec and its operations.
2. Lack of knowledge sharing culture
and respect for knowledge in Pernec.
Both 1 and 2 require a long term
strategy.
3. Lack of motivation: ‘What do I get if I
share my knowledge with others ?‘ is
a question users will ask. Knowledge
sharing must be linked to KRA and
KPI.
In the next article on Knowledge Management, we shall address other issues
and aspects of interests which relate to
KM in Pernec.
Since its incorporation in
1973, in order to survive,
Pernec has been meeting ever
increasing competition and

r. Eugine Tan from Trainers Alliance Gemilang Sdn. Bhd. was
the guest speaker of the day. His presentation entitled War @ Work touched
on understanding the challenges and
obstacles faced by our business today.
The ‘war’ referred to in his
presentation certainly was
not of the infamous “shock
and awe” variety but more of
the traditional “smash and
grab” version – where there
is real significance in and
room for the use of strategic
formations, deployment and
tactical brilliance.
The ‘war’ referred to in his presentation certainly was not of the infamous
“shock and awe” variety but more of
the traditional “smash and grab” version – where there is real significance
in and room for the use of strategic
formations, deployment and tactical
brilliance. The main question was - just
how does one interpolate the latter war
scenario to the business world one operates in.
The programme highlighted the
various possibilities using strategies
and wisdom derived from classic war
manuals as well as interpretation and
implementation of principles by bril-
liant historical war figures. Finally
participants were required to map the
insights gained to more modern business events and personalities.
At the end of the programme, participants were able to establish a link between war and the real business world;
choose appropriate strategies and tools
for personal and organisational achievements as well as adopt and adapt lessons learnt from the war and business
metaphors.
The PET programme was initiated by
the PNB Group in 2001 with each company within the PNB Group required
to organise a training event involving
participation from all other companies
within the Group.
The objective of PET was to serve as
a platform for the PNB Group to share
best practices, resources and expertise.

SEIRI - SISIH
Sisihkan dan buangkan barangbarang yang tidak diperlukan.
SEITON - SUSUN
Susun barang-barang dengan teratur
supaya ianya mudah diambil atau
dipulangkan ke tempat asal selepas
digunakan.
SEISO - SAPU
SHITSUKE - SENTIASA AMAL
Sentiasa bersihkan tempat kerja anda

perlu dilakukan demi mengubah budaya kerja warga
Perkataan
Seiri juga boleh ditambah dengan huruf
‘ng’ yang menghasilkan perkataan ‘seiring’, lantaran membawa maksud seiring

Tingkah Laku Etika Islam Dalam Perniagaan
kaedah memenuhi tuntutan agama.
Kuasa atas segala sesuatu.
‘Maha Perkasa lagi Maha Pengampun”
(Surah Al Mulk, ayat 1-2)
