TomakeaNationalStrongmanRecord: An ASC/NAS appointed official MUST be present at the contest at which the record attempt is made. - The State Chairman of the state that the contest is taking place MUST be present at the contest at which the record attempt is made. - The judges for the record attempt must be the ASC/NAS appointed official. - Equipment/ Implements used at the contest should be within NAS Inc/ ASC standards or should be approved of by the ASC/NAS official. - Supportive gear should be approved by the official judge before the attempt is made. - NAS Inc./ ASC has the right to change or modify the Event Records and Standardized Rules at any given time. They also have the right to add events or omit events. - NotesforEvents: - Wessels Rule: Usually for max events such as presses and deadlifts. Once an athlete misses an attempt the athlete is done with that event. The standardized rules are not set in stone, the promoter may tweak the event (s) to fit the venue however they may not be eligible for NAS Inc./ ASC Strongman Records. Strongman Corporation Event Records and Standardized Rules. PRESSINGEVENTS BARBELLPUSHPRESSFROMRACK:(MAX) • • • • • • • • • • • • • • For Max weight. 3 attempts. A 60 second time limit per attempt. Wessels Rule may be in effect. Standard Olympic Bar taken from a power rack or uprights. The bar must start from the front of the body below the chin. Athlete may press, push press, push jerk, split jerk the bar overhead. The athlete must wait for the judges “good” signal before lowering the weight. The athlete must lower the bar under control and place the wt in the rack/ uprights. Good Lift: Bar must be locked out overhead, under control, with the arms straight and legs/ feet stationary and parallel. Equipment allowed: Belt, chalk, knee wraps, wrist wraps, elbow sleeves. Equipment NOT allowed: Tacky, elbow wraps, any artificial support to rest the bar. Any and all anatomical limitations preventing lockout as described above must be demonstrated to the judge prior to the start of the event. This is solely the responsibility of the athlete. The other hand must not come into contact with any part of the lifting arm/ hand/ or dumbbell during the press. -Athlete may press, push press, or push jerk the dumbbell overhead to lockout. -The athlete must wait for the judges “good” signal before lowering the dumbbell to the floor. -The athlete must lower the dumbbell under control back to the floor. -Good Lift: The athlete grips the dumbbell with either the left or right hand and cleans the wt to the shoulder, then proceed to lockout the dumbbell overhead. The arm must locked out with the wt under control. Legs and feet must be stationary. -Equipment allowed: Belt, chalk, knee wraps, wrist wraps, elbow sleeves. -Equipment NOT allowed: Tacky, elbow wraps, lifting straps or hooks. -Any and all anatomical limitations preventing lockout as described above must be demonstrated to the judge prior to the start of the event. This is solely the responsibility of the athlete. The dumbbell must be a 13” for HW or 10” for LW, women and 175# class. They must be either Slater DB, Bigg Dogg, or Aaron West. The Athlete must wait for the “good” down signal before lowering the Axle. “Good ” sig n al: Axle locked out overhead with arms straight, head thru, legs and feet parallel and stationary. The Axle must touch the chest or have the axle below the chin before proceeding to lockout. The athlete must lower the Axle under control. No deliberate dropping of the axle will be tolerated. The athlete may forfeit his attempt in doing so. Equipment Allowed: Chalk, belt, wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, Knee sleeves or wraps. Equipment NOT Allowed: Any item placed within the belt to provide a “shelf”, back of belt built up more than 8”, tacky, elbow wraps. Any and all anatomical limitations preventing a lockout as described above must be demonstrated to the judges prior to the start of the event. This solely the responsibility of the athlete. There may be a 60 second time limit. One set down allowed throughout the course. Various Yoke designs may be used however every Yoke should be able to adjust height. Athlete will start with the Yoke on the floor and shoulders under the crossbar. The signal is given and the athlete must lift and carry the yoke throughout the course and fully cross the finish to stop the clock. No sliding of the yoke will be permitted. Disqualification from the event if sliding is obvious, or a 2 second penalty if inadvertent. Equipment allowed: Belt, Knee sleeves or wraps, supportive suits, chalk. Equipment NOT allowed: Tacky. The apparatus should be hinged at one end with a safety catch (large tire/ hand held cart, etc…) at the other to prevent the apparatus crushing the athlete. The “Fingers” must be flipped in ascending order. Split times for each successful “finger” will be recorded. Time is stopped for each finger when the implement hits the ground. If the athlete is unable to pick up the stone within the 30 seconds the athlete may forfeit his attempt. The athlete must carry the stone over a course for the farthest distance. Standard courses may have turns at 50’ or 100’. Distance will be measured from the point of contact the stone has with the ground to the starting line. NO devise that will assist the athlete to hang onto the stone will be permitted (ie. Stumpy Raines duct tape ring) . POWERSTAIRS: - 1 Attempt for the fastest time or most number of stairs. There may be a 60 second time limit. Standard Riser Height is set at 17” There may be from 12 to as many as 20 stairs. Athletes must go in ascending order of implements. Athletes must use the handles only to lift the apparatus from one step to the next. At the top of the stairs the athlete must place the implement securely before proceeding with the next implement. Athletes may start with the hands on the implement. Time stops when the final finger is placed securely at the top. - If an implement falls off the stairs the athlete must retrieve the implement and successfully complete the stairs with that implement before proceeding with the next implement. Equipment allowed: Chalk, belt, Wrist Wraps, knee wraps or sleeves. Equipment NOT allowed: Lifting Straps or hooks, Tacky, SLEDDRAG: - Usually the sled drag is part of a medley. May include any number of other events. The athlete must face the sled at all times when dragging the sled through the course. Both hands must be in contact with the handles at all times. The standard distances for sled dragging is usually within 50’ to 100’. 23 TRUCKPULL: - - - 1 attempts for the best time or distance. May have a 60 second time limit. Nylon or fiber rope 1” to 2” in diameter may be used. Vehicle(s) or sled may be used. Course length depends on venue however 80’ to 100’ and level is the standard. IronMind or APT pulling harnesses are the standard. The staff member taking up the slack must be at least 3’ from the athlete and 45 degrees to the right or left of the athlete and making sure the slack is not getting under the wheels of the vehicle or hindering the sled in any way. Reps must start below chin level and end in Lock out. Lockout: Arms locked out straight overhead with head thru and legs and feet in line and under control. The athlete may push pres, push jerk, press the weight into position. The athlete will not be allowed to split jerk the weight into position. Once the athlete takes the handles from the supports the apparatus is not allowed to touch the supports. The athlete will receive one warning after which the attempt will end if the supports are touched again. The stones must be loaded in a controlled manner. If a stone falls off the platform during the attempt, the athlete must replace the stone before proceeding to the next heaviest stone. Split times will be taken for each stone. Athlete starts with hands on the platform or a short distance from the platform at start of the event. Once athlete sets the implement down, measurements will be taken. Conan’s Wheel apparatus: May come in various designs. Boom lengths usually are around 16’ with one revolution 100’. Bar sizes range from 3” to 5” in diameter. Bar should be adjustable. Athletes usually have to walk in a clockwise fashion. On the lift command the athlete should have 60 seconds to be able to lift the apparatus. There should be a 2’ to 4’ grace mark, after which measurements will be taken.
