Pre-prints are accepted for distribution in any Houston Community Newspapers publication. When
zoning, the entire zip code must be purchased and the minimum number of pre-prints is 10,000.
For those newspapers with less than 5,000 circulation, zoning is not available and the entire
newspaper’s circulation must be purchased. Rates apply to home-delivered newspapers. Those
newspapers that are distributed through direct mail will be quoted by request.

Houston Pre-print
Specifications
Single Sheets or Cards:
•THICKNESS: The minimum thickness for single sheets or cards (two to
four pages) is .007 inches.
•SIZE: The minimum card size should be 3” x 5”. All single sheets over
11” x 11.5” must be folded. Single sheet minimum is 35 lb.
•SPOILS: Add 5% to the amount ordered for spoilage. Add more as
necessary for difficult or unusual pre-prints.
•COVER STOCK BASIS WEIGHT: 70-lb. uncoated cover stock or 100-lb.
glossy cover stock.
Newsprint Stock:
•THICKNESS: The minimum thickness for newsprint stock is .003
inches.
•PAGE COUNT: The minimum page count is eight-page tabloid or fourpage standard.
•QUARTER-FOLD: Four-page tab pre-prints on newspaper stock must be
quarter-folded.
•DIMENSIONS: The minimum dimension should be 3” X 5.5”. The
maximum dimension should be 10” X 11.5”. The maximum length of the
folded edge should be 11.5”.
•SPOILS: Add 3% to the amount ordered for spoilage. Add more as
necessary for difficult or unusual pre-prints.
Unusual Pre-prints:
Any paper sacks, CD-ROMs, perforated cards, envelopes, consumers’
sample packets, or out-of-the-ordinary pre-prints must be reviewed by
Houston Community Newspapers. At least 300 sample copies should be
provided for a test run. The advertiser should agree to accept any extra
cost that may be incurred in the handling of these special supplements.

Staples:
Staples should only be used for pre-prints that are 60 pages or more.
PACKAGING
Preprinted supplements must be delivered in banded stacks on nonreturnable skids or pallets. Skids shall not measure over 48 inches long. Skids must be packed so that they do not exceed 5 feet in height. Skids may not exceed
2,800 pounds. Wired bundles of preprinted supplements will not be accepted. A 4-inch minimum floor clearance is required.
All preprinted sections must be stacked in consistent turns, cuts of 100 or 200, depending on page count. They should not be stacked on ends. They must be well jogged, securely banded and protected for shipment. Shipments
received in poor condition and/or not in consistent turns, thereby necessitating additional handling, will require an additional charge per thousand to the advertiser.
To help minimize damage from bands or truck walls, bundles should be stacked so that they do not protrude beyond the dimensions of the skid itself. A protective cover should be placed on the skid before loading and another prior
to topping. (This will cut down on the number of damp and curled sections.) Sheets of cardboard should be inserted between turns to keep supplements flat. Bands should be tight, but not to the extent of pulling down or bending
the top turn of sections or pulling loose the skid flooring. Each skid or pallet must be marked with the quantity of preprints it contains, the name of the newspaper and the date of distribution.
CARTONS
Cartons must be fully packed or dunnaged internally. Each carton should be packed with the same quantity and count. All cartons must be strapped on skids or pallets, and each carton must be marked with the quantity of
preprints it contains, the name of the newspaper and the date of distribution.

date. Skids should be no larger than 44” wide x 44” long x 48” high and weigh no more than 800
pounds.

Arizona Pre-print
Specifications
Requirements:
•MINIMUM SIZE:
5”x7” on card stock (75#) or folded single sheet
•MAXIMUM SIZE:
11”x13” single sheet or multiple page
preprinted insert (If over 12x14, must be folded!)
•SINGLE SHEET MINIMUM WEIGHT:
24# bond or 60# offset paper.
PACKAGING
Preprinted supplements must be delivered in banded stacks on nonreturnable skids or pallets.
Skids shall not measure over 48 inches long. Skids must be packed so that they do not exceed
5 feet in height. Skids may not exceed 2,800 pounds. Wired bundles of preprinted supplements
will not be accepted. A 4-inch minimum floor clearance is required.
All preprinted sections must be stacked in consistent turns, cuts of 100 or 200, depending on
page count. They should not be stacked on ends. They must be well jogged, securely banded
and protected for shipment. Shipments received in poor condition and/or not in consistent
turns, thereby necessitating additional handling, will require an additional charge per thousand
to the advertiser. Skid tops should be of hardwood or sturdy synthetic material and should
conform in size with the base of the skid.
To help minimize damage from bands or truck walls, bundles should be stacked so that they
do not protrude beyond the dimensions of the skid itself. A protective cover should be placed
on the skid before loading and another prior to topping. (This will cut down on the number of
damp and curled sections.) Sheets of cardboard should be inserted between turns to keep
supplements flat. Bands should be tight, but not to the extent of pulling down or bending the
top turn of sections or pulling loose the skid flooring. Each skid or pallet must be marked with
the quantity of preprints it contains, the name of the newspaper and the date of distribution.
CARTONS
Cartons must be fully packed or dunnaged internally. Each carton should be packed with the
same quantity and count. All cartons must be strapped on skids or pallets, and each carton
must be marked with the quantity of preprints it contains, the name of the newspaper and the
date of distribution.

Inserts need to be delivered to our warehouse 4 business days prior to distribution.
Sunday distribution - inserts must be scheduled 7 business days prior to distribution. Inserts
need to be delivered to our warehouse 5 business days prior to distribution.
