The library gives you access to over ten museum passes. Check one out and receive

needed to call or come to the library to reserve these passes. We are now giving you the
ability to reserve passes yourself from home or from your mobile devices. Try it out at
www.bethpagelibrary.info/museums. All you need is your library card number!
If you have any questions, or would prefer to reserve by phone, please call us at 516-931-3907.

New Museum Pass:
The library has purchased a pass for the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Long
Island, located in Glen Cove. The museum is the largest and most eminent Holocaust resource
on Long Island, and its library has a vast resource of Holocaust materials. The museum also
offers lectures, films and author events. The pass will admit up to 4 adults, and anyone under
the age of 18. For further information or to reserve this pass, contact the Reference Desk.
Please note that in order to take advantage of our museum passes, you must be a Bethpage
card holder (courtesy cards are not valid).
The library is committed to providing a variety of passes to suit the many interests of our
patrons. We welcome suggestions and will look into any that are made. However, some of the
museums do not partner with libraries to provide passes. In other instances, some museum
subscription prices are high, and for that reason, we may purchase only one pass. On a positive
note, most passes always include more than one adult admission, and usually admission for
some children, helping to defray the user’s cost should they have a large group. We hope this
addresses some of your questions and concerns, but please call the Reference Desk if you
have any others. You can find a complete list of museum passes and reserve a pass online
by going to www.bethpagelibrary.info/museums. You may also pick up a list of passes and
reserve a pass at the Reference Desk.

ESL Classes
English as a Second Languange
The library will once again be offering ESL Classes for people
who want to learn English. Since September 2015, we have
been sponsoring the NYSIgN ESL/Citizenship Program.
Participants with little or no command of English are tutored
in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, by experienced teachers.
When their language skills are sufficiently improved, they can
begin study with the goal of obtaining American citizenship.
Currently, we offer these classes on Tuesday or Wednesday,
from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Fall Classes begin on Tuesday, September 27th and
Wednesday, September 14th.
Participants choose one class, and register in person or by
phone at the Reference Desk. The registration for the class
is ongoing. Students may join at any time; the teachers will
evaluate each one and place them appropriately within the
class. The participant’s native language does not matter!
We only ask that they bring pen or pencil and paper, and a
willingness and desire to learn. There is no fee.
Our librarians will be pleased to answer any questions you
may have.
Citizenship Classes
The library also offers classes
for persons wishing to become
American citizens. Classes will
begin on Monday, September

Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis
with Marilyn Carmino, Freelance Lecturer
Date:Thursday, September 29
Time:2:00 P.M.
Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis’ public persona as legendary
First Lady is immediately recognizable. We remember her
as an elegant, cool woman, who bravely stood and watched
the oath of office administered to Lyndon Johnson after her
husband’s assassination. However, the private life of Mrs.
Kennedy-Onassis was said to be quite different than the
public perception.
This presentation takes us beyond the familiar narrative of
Jackie’s life, as told through over 100 photographs, many
rarely seen. Jackie Kennedy was a bibliophile, equestrian,
preservationist, mother, step-mother and family matriarch.
You will come to know the private side of this intelligent and
inspiring woman.

immigration policy, gun control, climate change legislation
and the Supreme Court balance have strong advocates which
will result in heated debates by politicians, media, and the public.

Georgia O’Keeffe:
Flower Power
with Louise Cella Caruso, Lecturer, Independent Scholar
Date:Thursday, October 27
Time:2:00 P.M.
The New York Times described Georgia O’Keeffe as “the
undisputed doyenne of American painting” in 1986 when she died
at the age of 98. Even at an early age, she had a sense of color
and shape.
Georgia O’Keeffe’s first memories were of light sitting on a
patchwork quilt and the feeling of warm, soft ridges of earth made
by the wheels of buggies. Generations have been stunned, awed,
and confused by her work, asking the same questions and coming
to the same incorrect conclusions.
This lecture/slideshow will focus on the fearless, modest woman
and her own highly refined, interpretive art.

still, an extremist intent on destruction? A banker and a young female attorney
are drawn into this web of intrigue, all the while being watched by the talented,
unscrupulous chief of a covert German spy unit. In an adrenaline-laced and
heart-rending escalation of tension and collision, it’s not long before he becomes
everyone’s most wanted man. A Most Wanted Man, a clever tale of conspiracy in the vein of Tinker
Taylor Soldier Spy, is also contemporary and deeply human, touching themes of love and rivalry.
