E.S. Kluft & Company is operating out of this newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility
in Luzerne County.
E. S. Kluft & Company, maker and distributor of Aireloom® and Kluft brand mattresses,
is leasing 99,000 square feet in Humboldt Industrial Park North, Hazle Township,
Luzerne County. Production began in mid October. The company expects to initially
employ 50, then doubling that number once fully operational.
"This new site is a state-of-the-art production and distribution center that mirrors our
West Coast facility, enabling us to produce our full line of products for the first time on
the East Coast," said E. S. Kluft & Company President and CE, Earl Kluft. "Hazle
Township is a great community with a wonderful workforce. We are excited about this
new opportunity."

Region Positioned to Attract Bioscience Industry
Elected officials, government and community representatives gather
at East Stroudsburg University to announce the NEPA Regional
Bioscience Initiative.
An 8-county consortium of state and local governmental officials, economic
development professionals, representatives from higher education and private industry
recently unveiled a strategic plan to attract the bioscience industry to Northeast
Pennsylvania. The announcement was held at the Center for Innovation and
Entrepreneurship on the campus of East Stroudsburg University.
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Regional Bioscience Initiative (NEPA RBI) is based
upon the conclusions of consulting firm AngelouEconomics that Northeastern
Pennsylvania has the bioscience resources of regional educational institutions and
private sector industries to grow bioscience industry jobs. The NEPA RBI territory
includes Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill, Susquehanna, Wayne and
Wyoming counties.

Neiman Marcus Group Chooses CenterPoint for
East Coast Distribution Center
The Neiman-Marcus distribution center at 400-450 CenterPoint Boulevard.
Well-known retailer The Neiman Marcus Group recently opened a 198,400-square-foot
distribution center in CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park East, Jenkins Township,
Luzerne County. The company is leasing the industrial building from Mericle
Commercial Real Estate Services and will create approximately 150 jobs. The facility
serves the entire East Coast.
Mericle Vice President Jim Hilsher coordinated the real estate transaction along with
Joe McDermott from CB Richard Ellis Real Estate of Wayne, PA. Hilsher thanked Janet
Smith of Pennsylvania's Governor's Action Team, Rosemary Dessoye of the Greater
Pittston Chamber of Commerce and the Jenkins Township supervisors for their help in
securing the tenant.

Marcellus Shale Prompts Berwick Manufacturer's
Expansion
K-Fab will renovate this 27,000-square-foot building to accommodate their expansion.
Longtime Berwick-based manufacturer, K-Fab Inc., will expand its operations to support
new growth in the natural gas industry. The company is a sole source manufacturer of
material processing, fabrication, machine assembly and paint that serves many different
sectors of manufacturing including pumps used in the Marcellus Shale Industry.
K-Fab will purchase an additional facility to accommodate the expansion. The company
will invest more than $2.4 million in renovations, infrastructure improvements, new
equipment and employee training and has committed to creating at least 50 new jobs
while retaining 266 within the next three years.

Designation Brings New Educational
Opportunities to Wayne County
Elected officials, government and community representatives gather to announce that
Workforce Wayne was awarded Community Education Council status.
Workforce Wayne, a career training and workforce development organization serving
Wayne and Pike Counties, has been awarded Community Education Council status by
the PA Department of Education. Community education councils are non-profit
organizations that bring higher education opportunities to rural or educationally
underserved communities. With the designation, the organization will change its name
to the Northeast Innovation Alliance.
Over the next few months, Workforce Wayne will transform into the Northeast
Innovation Alliance. New partnerships will be created and existing partnerships will be
expanded. "Our goal is to increase the economic vitality of our workforce in the region,"
stated Mary Beth Wood, Past Chair of the Workforce Wayne/Northeast Innovation
Alliance Executive Committee and Executive Director of Wayne Economic Development
Corporation. "We continue to strive for maximum employability amongst our workforce,
and enhancement of the services available to our community members," she added.

Technology Developed at East Stroudsburg University

provides reliable and 99.9% accurate
Lyme disease testing on ticks, is now
available for purchase.
LYME-AID was developed at East
Stroudsburg University (ESU) in
Monroe County by Jane Huffman,
Ph.D., professor of biological sciences
and Melissa Shaw, M.S. While a
student of Dr. Huffman's Shaw
worked on her idea for the kit and later
submitted it in ESU's Business Plan
Competition and won. ESU and Garrett
Hewitt International later negotiated a
licensing agreement for production and
distribution of the kits.

Mission Foods Expands in Crestwood Industrial Park
Mission Foods, one of Luzerne County's largest manufacturing companies, is expanding
its operation in Crestwood Industrial Park, Wright Township.
Headquartered in Irving, TX, Mission Foods is one of the largest producers of tortilla
products, producing almost a quarter of all tortillas sold in the world. The company
employs approximately 400 at the Luzerne County facility.
