An update from the National Alumni Association
The National Alumni Association’s (NAA) focus for 2013 was directed at supporting our University financially.
As a result of our contributions, a number of students were able to remain enrolled and avoided a delay in their
educational goals.
A generous contribution was also given to the George “Pup” Williams Athletic Complex. NAA is confident that
the completion of the complex will be a tremendous benefit to our University and to the Raleigh community. We
know that if SAU build it, the supporters will come!
The inaugural Dr. Wiley M. & Mary H. Davis Scholarship Gala held during homecoming weekend was a
successful event. The first Ms. Saint Augustine’s University Alumni Queen was crowned. The honor was
bestowed upon Mrs. Deloris Revis, a member of the Raleigh/Wake Retired Alumni Chapter. Mrs. Revis will hold
this title for one year and will have the honor of crowning the second Ms. SAU Alumni Queen during
Homecoming 2014 weekend.
NAA’s focus for 2014 is RECRUITMENT! We want to help recruit the smartest and the best students for SAU.
SAU active chapters and chapters in the re-development stage (nationally and internationally) will be a part of
the recruitment efforts. Some initial training is required and will be provided by SAU’s Admissions Office. A
passion to see SAU soar is required of alums and SAU supporters. Both training and passion is needed for NAA’s
efforts to be successful.
The National Alumni Association is going international . . .
Alumni, friends and supporters are invited to join NAA for the 2014 Summer Conference being hosted by the
developing Bahamas Chapter in Nassau, Bahamas. Our theme is “An International Connection.” The location
of the conference is the Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino. The conference dates are July 23-27,
2014. Travel arrangements must be made on your own and a valid U.S. Passport is required. Hotel
accommodations are handled through Aladdin Travel. Patrick Craven is our meeting planner and can be
reached at 336.499.6759 or [email protected].
An exciting conference is being planned! NAA’s 2014 Honoree is the Honorable Cynthia “Mother” Pratt, a 1983
graduate of our beloved alma mater. In addition to informative workshops, there will be time for sightseeing,
shopping, some “fun in the sun” for everyone and expect a few surprises as well. We would love to have you join
us! The conference registration form is available in the Office of Alumni Affairs and Parents Relations.
