HEALTHY HABITS To lose weight, you need to cut calories. To lose weight fast, you need to cut more calories. For every 3,500 calories you cut, you lose one pound. PEP GRANT The2015-2016schoolyearisthesecond yearforHarlandale ISDtorollouttheamazingopportunitiesthattheCarolWhite PhysicalEducationProgramGranthastooffer. What’s all the PEP about? P.E.P. is the Physical Education Program Grant Harlandale ISD received from the U.S. Department of Education. It consists of: Does technology have you glued to the couch ? This school year challenge yourself and your families to utilize technology in a fitness moving way. $1.3 million to enhance and improve physical education • over three years. • Virtual P.E. in elementary with Xbox One. VirtualP.E.insecondarywithHOPSports. • • Increasing moderate to vigorous physical activity. • Incorporating over 29 weeks of free community fitness classes that include Zumba and Circuit Training. • Hosting four community events over the first year to educate and inspire physical fitness. Year 1 Success of the PEP Grant ! - 63 % Students are in a Healthy BMI Zone -43 % of students are reaching 60 min of Physical Activity Daily -34% of students are cosumming 2 Fruits & 3 Vegtables a day -40 % of students meet 5 out 6 health Assessments i play! afterschool SanAntonioSportslaunchediplay!afterschoolinthefallof2008 to address the concern that low socioeconomic children do not get the same opportunities to succeed through sports as higher socioeconomic students. 2015-2016i play! Check with your afterschool program to see if your students campus is an Iplay School Students have the opportunity to participate and learn how to play volleyball, tennis, track & field, golf, and soccer. HISD Wellness Community Events Harlandale PE and Wellness will host free weekly exercise events through the district and near by neighborhoods. These events are free not only to the Harlandale Empolyees but everyone in the Harlandale Community. Stay posted by going to PE and Wellness at the www.harlandale.net website. * Last 2014-2015 School Year we had 955 participating in the weekly excercise classes ! SAN ANTONIO WELLNESS EVENTS: *TheRock‘N’RollSanAntonioMarathon&1/2Marathonfeature thetwo-dayHealth& Fitness Exp and 5k run. * Siclovia a FREE event open to the community . 5 hours for families to run, ride bikes or take exercise classes on th city streets. HISD KSHACS 2015-2016 This year HISD will implement KSHAC's , kid school health advisory councils at 4 elementary, 2 middle and 1 highschool. These students will be advised by a Physical Educator and will spread the importance of Nutrition and Physical Activity using Fuel Up to Play 60 resources.
