Let us be grateful to
people who make us
happy--they are the
charming gardeners
who make our souls
blossom.”
~ Marcel Proust
Great things often start from small beginnings. Prestige Care and
Prestige Senior Living are no exception. Founded in 1985, our
origins begin with the legacy of Sarah Delamarter, a pioneer in
Oregon's long-term care industry. Sarah first began utilizing her
nursing skills to care for seniors in her home in 1946 as a means
to support her family. As Sarah’s reputation for compassion and
excellent care spread, the demands for her services grew very
quickly. Soon she was able to purchase a large house in Wood
Village, Oregon and converted it into her first senior care
community.
Prestige grew over the years to include 21 skilled nursing and
rehabilitation communities in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon.
Prestige Care of Reedwood was welcomed as the most recent
addition on January 1, 2012. Reedwood is located in Southeast
Portland and is very proud of the cultural diversity of residents
and staff and history of excellent care provided.
Prestige has always sought ways to improve care, setting the
stage for innovation. Featured in each edition of the Prestige
“Harold” will be facilities that have created special programs to
help residents and their families enjoy an active and productive
life. This edition features the Senior Wish Program in which
Porthaven Care Center plays a very active role and the Rose
Program at Chehalem Health and Rehabilitation in Newberg,
Oregon.
At Prestige, our promise is to personally touch lives every day. It is a philosophy
of caring based on core values that are at the center of all we do.

Meet Central Support
If you hear a quiet voice or a person who fills in where needed, it is probably
our amazing and talented Administrative Assistant and Managed Care
Associate, Trish Campbell. More flexible than Gumby, Trish Campbell is
one of our Super Team Members who can step in and cover many duties!
Keeps lots of loose ends
tied together
Trish officially joined Prestige in November of 2000 having been a temp
earlier that year processing SNF A/P. Trish provides a myriad of services to
her Prestige family, from facility license renewals, career Builder job
postings, monthly referral bonus drawing, the monthly Nurses Notes-Care
Giver-Healthcare Newsletter distribution, and assisting with the Prestige
Pool. As Managed Care Associate: Trish is the point of contact for the
Skilled Nursing Facilities. She does the credentialing applications and
distributes the rate sheets for contracted insurance companies.
Outside of work, Trish loves flowers and especially orchids. She would like
to do flower arrangements and hopes to take a class someday. Reading is
something else she enjoys but most of her reading now is Disney stories to
her 3 year old granddaughter.
When asked if there is anything else she would like to share, she responded:
“I absolutely love working at Prestige. I feel so lucky to work with such
wonderful and caring people.”
If you get a chance, give Trish a call or send her an e-mail to let her know
how much we all appreciate her. She is truly a gift.
Thanks Trish – We love you!
Clinical Corner – Senior Wish
Jodi Burroughs at Porthaven Care Center is one of Oregon’s leaders in
granting wishes to residents through Oregon Health Care Foundation.
These wishes have included sky diving for a 86 year old women who
always wanted to sense the wind in face and the rush of a protected fall.
For another lady who always wanted to travel to Hawaii, the Porthaven
team brought Hawaii to her. A former professional jockey was granted
his wish spending the day grooming and riding horses at a rescue farm.
He joyfully shared past memories with everyone who shared his day.
Jodi is one of the dedicated trainers for OHCF and who will be offering
their next training April 19th in Lake Oswego, Oregon. This training is
complimentary and offers 2 CEU for attendees. Check out

Prestige’s Expressions memory care program offered at Discovery, Chehalem, Hood River and Molalla emphasizes
knowing and using the elements of a person’s life story to structure the resident’s days and bring quality to their life.
We make it a priority to learn every resident’s life story as well as 100 unique things about each person we care for.
This enables us to personalize and tailor the services we provide.
Life story work is a very important element in communication when caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease and
related dementia. How can Life Stories help communication?

To explain patterns of behavior
To suggest why past experiences can affect the person in the present
To remind caregivers that people who cannot communicate verbally still have something to say and contribute
To have a hard copy, a scrap book of the person that can move with them as they pass through various services
To involve the caregivers and families in the care of their loved one
To remind health workers, caregivers and families of the life experiences of the person with dementia
To encourage interaction with the client and the staff
To see beyond the disease
Prestige has been invited to present our unique approach to memory care at the International Conference of
Alzheimer’s Disease in London, England this coming March. The conference is a very prestigious event, catering to
attendees from over 70 countries; including researchers, doctors, care providers, scientists, and families living with
dementia. Approximately 1,200 participants are expected to attend. Being asked to give a presentation on our
Expression program at the conference is the highest level of recognition; acceptance to the conference is highly
competitive. Please join in congratulating our entire Expressions team on this wonderful achievement.
Core Value Winner
Karen Lane, Timberview is an exceptional employee who personifies what Prestige
Care is all about.
For over 25 years, Karen Lane has worked as a dietary aid at Timberview Care
Center. She is reliably on time, rarely sick, and regardless of the weather, Karen will
be here. She’s never owned a car and lives where she does so she can walk to
work. Her job is more than a job. Her place of employment gives her purpose and
she recognizes she makes a difference. The staff and residents have become her
extended family. She comforts and reassures others and is the first to volunteer her
time for community events. The little things that make a difference are things that
come natural for her.
Always a smile, and a bound in her step, Karen walks down Elm Street every
morning, her little dog Georgie, leading the way. She stops in to visit her friends at
Timberview. In the afternoon she makes the trip again and clocks in for her job.
Respect, Commitment, Integrity and Trust are values Karen lives, both on and off the
job. She is not only pleasant and kind, but also well regarded as a pure and honest
person. John Clay, the Director of Nursing Services at Timberview explains, “any
one who knows Karen, knows she is the Prestige core values.”
Our Prestige Family, please meet Karen Lane.
