Contents
The International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids
(ISSFAL) was established in March 1991 with the objective of
increasing the understanding of the role of dietary fatty acids
and lipids in health and disease through research and education.
ISSFAL’s 500+ members come from more than forty countries
and include scientists, health professionals, administrators and
educators with an interest in the health effects of dietary fats.

interested scientists — working in nutrition, physiology, pathology,
biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology and clinical medicine
— who are studying the biological effects of fatty acids and lipid

across these different branches of medical and biological sciences
has already stimulated new research and increased knowledge of
nutrition. ISSFAL has also taken a role in interpreting the new
facts into sound nutritional advice for the public.

Welcome to Stockholm
tockholm is generally referred to
as Beauty on Water, or Venice of
the North which is understandable, as
the city is built upon 14 islands. It is
surrounded by Lake Mälaren, and by
the Baltic Sea.

The mixture of old and new, greenery
and water, picturesque narrow streets
and engaging modern broad ones
provides an attractiveness you rarely
meet elsewhere. By steamboat you
can take trips out into the
archipelago, or go in the other
direction to Lake Mälaren with its
characteristic and amazing nature.
Taking one of the canal boats one
can see Stockholm from under the
bridges which also is a charming way
to discover this radiant city.
Whatever the mood you are in, the
right place to be is in Stockholm.
Stockholm can provide for, as for
example; royal magnificence, the
world's longest art gallery in the
Underground, Swedish cuisine,
outdoor as well as indoor museums,
churches, palaces, events performed
live either indoors or outdoors. Why
not take the tram, which in
Stockholm is a mobile museum, along
the route of main museums in the
city, take a city walk, or travel in an
air balloon and see it all from above.
As water covers one third of the city
area, the maritime life is an
important aspect of the city. There
are plenty of bridges, marinas and
locks. The water is so clean that you
can, in fact, catch salmon in the
middle of the city, just a few minutes
walk from the city centre. The climate
is very much conditioned by the sea
winds, so even the warmest summer
day will be contingent upon the sea
breeze finding its way into the city
streets.
Stockholm has been described by
poets, historians, and foremost by
the Stockholmers themselves in
poetic and vivid descriptions. They all
have one thing in common; they all
agree that wherever you stay at the
time, however beautiful this spot
might be, no place is like Stockholm.
So, the beauty of this city is well
praised and surely, once having
visited this place, you will never
forget the very special atmosphere,
that is so Stockholmian.

The Congress will run from Saturday, June 28 through Wednesday, July 2.
As in past meetings, ISSFAL 2014 will provide an opportunity to learn
cutting edge science related to the biology of fatty acids and lipids and their
mediators; and for interaction among scientists from academia,
government and industry with other health professionals.
Satellite Meetings & Breakfast Workshops: There will be several
opportunities to present during the Congress in either a breakfast
workshop format or as part of a post-conference satellite meeting. We
encourage you to contact us about any proposal to conduct such a session
as soon as possible and/or indicate that desire through the Abstract
Submission process.

than 500 delegates world-wide,

linked to lipids and health.
ISSFAL 2014 will continue the

future for research in lipids and
fatty acids and for the Society.

bursaries totalling US$10,000

New Investigators. ISSFAL 2014
will provide free registration for
successful New Investigator
Awards applicants, as well as

oral and poster presentations
from this group.

feature of the success of past ISSFAL meetings.

The Stockholm City Hall (Stockholms Stadshus) is the building of the
Municipal Council for the City of Stockholm. It is located on the island
Kungsholmen. It houses ceremonial halls, offices and the luxury
restaurant Stadshuskällaren. It is famous for the Nobel Prize banquet
and one of Stockholm's major tourist attractions. The construction of
Stockholm City Hall started 1911 and it was completed 1923.

About the Vasa Museum: From wreck to state of the art, the warship Vasa sank on its maiden voyage in
Stockholm in 1628 and was salvaged in 1961. A piece of the 17th century was suddenly back among us and
