WVSR Membership Meeting
May 5, 2015
The meeting was called to order by President Dave LeCompte at 7:03 pm, followed by everyone reciting the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Jim Palmquist introduced one guest; Jordan Evans. Jordan was invited by Dick Campbell.
OFFICER REPORTS
President (Dave LeCompte): It’s great to see folks at all the swap meets and car shows.
Vice President (Nicolle Geck): absent
Secretary (Heather Bethel): The club By-Laws are under review at the Officers’ Meeting. There are no changes to
them, other than basic grammar, spelling, and format. After going online and looking through By-Laws being used by other classic car clubs, Heather typed up a separate page with additional options that will be reviewed by the Officers to
see if any of them would be relevant to our club and could be voted on by our membership for inclusion in the WVSR ByLaws. Heather also reminded the membership about the “Idea Book” that the Classy Chassis came up with at their meeting. If anyone has any ideas, and they don’t want to speak up at the meeting, they can write them down in the “Idea
Book”. After each membership meeting, Heather will go through the book and pass along any ideas to the appropriate
person. For example, if it is an idea about the Christmas Party, the idea(s) will be passed along to Linda Spansel.
Treasurer (Paul Geck): absent.
Membership Chair (Jim Palmquist): Welcome to our newest members; Scott and Harriet Savage and Ron Hostetler.
Total membership is now at 120. See Jim if you need membership cards, window stickers or generic business cards.
Newsletter Editor (Ken Parsons): The newsletter is out. Keep the articles and photos coming!
Website (Garry Pullen): The Carousel Cruise registration is now online. Garry also said that our Facebook page now has
487 “likes.”
Social Chair (Ray Agen): Dave Cartwright was absent this week due to Sherri’s recent surgery. Ray reported that
Sherri went through her surgery very well and is doing great. Upcoming events:
May 9, Portland Transmission Car Show: for anyone that wants to caravan, John Stanton will be departing the
Brooks exit off I-5 at 6 am.
May 15, Scio Lamb & Wool Festival: the show begins at 6 pm. There will be lots of vendors. Ray Agen will organize
and send out email information on a club caravan to the event.
May 16, Iris Festival Parade: Dave LeCompte is going to driver his bus.
May 17, Keizer Elk’s Club Car Show: the show is located at 4250 Cherry Avenue. The lot will open at 8 am; judging
starts at 11 am and trophies will be presented at 3 pm.
May 30, Silverton High School Show: registration is $20; show starts at 8 am.
June 6, Blue Moon (per Russ Strohmeyer)
June 14, Evergreen Show: show is free to WVSR members; $10 to all others. There will be raffles, food, awards
and discounts; the show goes from 9 am to 5 pm.
June 20, Blue Moon: (per Russ Strohmeyer)
August 7-9, Flashback Cruise to Bend (annual club road trip): Dave has reserved 7 motel rooms so far. Please contact him and get signed up if you are planning on participating in this event.
Member at Large (Dayle Langley): Dayle reported that Sylvia Morley’s surgery was successful. She also asked members not to bring cans for recycling to the upcoming BBQ at Dave’s in June.
Member Care (Vicki Champ): Vicki sent out cards to the following members during the past month: Mark Dostal, Jane
George, and Sherri Cartwright.
Historian (Pam Foster): Pam wished everyone with a May birthday a very happy birthday. As usual, we thank her for
always making everyone feel special. J
A-Team (Jeff Foster):
A-Team Fundraising (Dayle Langley): Nothing to report.
Scholarship (Don Erickson): Don still has not received any type of a response from last year’s winner. He asked for
volunteers to read essays for this year’s scholarship competition. Warren Horne, James Sorrels and Bernadine Lindemann volunteered.
SACC (Greg Smith): At the recent Poker Run held on April 18, there were 298 poker cards purchased; last year there
were only 137 purchased. Greg also reported that over 300 pounds of food was collected. Way to go!
Carousel Cruise (Dave LeCompte): Dave thanked Judy Herschbach for volunteering to get donations and sponsors for
our event. Charlie Wolfers reminded members that they could get the parts for the valve cover racers at swap meets
and junk yards. Judy Herschbach is in charge of getting goody bags put together. She would appreciate help in getting
quantities of 100-150 per item donated; i.e., pens, pads, toothbrushes, magnets, flashlights, etc.
OLD BUSINESS
Christmas Party (Linda Spansel): If you have any ideas, thoughts, or concerns about anything to do with our Christmas Party, please send an email to Linda. Roth’s is holding the room for our party on Saturday, December 5. The room
will hold over 100 people. She also said we do not have to have ham, turkey and prime rib; Roth’s has an extensive catering menu.
Club T-Shirts (Vicki Champ): Hoodies - $27, full zip jackets - $30, t-shirts - $15; colors are black and dark grey. Vicki needs quantity of 24 to place an order.
NEW BUSINESS
Official Club Color (Dave LeCompte): A question was brought to the Board at their last meeting regarding the possibility of changing the club’s color. This is part of our bylaws, so In order to change the color a committee would need to
be formed and then it must be voted on by the membership. Bob Lewis said we already had a committee discuss this

WOW..the WVSR had 13 cars at the Elks Club car show this year. Club member Sandy Stogsdill made up 5 of them as a
tribute her husband Ron that passed last year. They were very active Elks members. The parking lot was maxed out with
60 cars being judged by the points system. Hoods, trucks, interiors, and underside clean and ready. WVSR did great in
the trophy department. Ray and Heathers Seafoam Model A got a 2nd place, Pre 2000 Custom to Jim & Ed Woodry's 1st.
place 67 Silver GTO. Roger Ferguson's 72 Chevelle SS got 1st place for Pre- 2000 stock and my 49 Chevy truck got 1st.
place Pre- 2000 truck. Congrats to the WVSR!! It was a great place for a show. They had fantastic omelets and orders
off a menu in the Elks club for breakfast then they served BBQ chickens

Cruise to Portland Transmission Warehouse & Papa’s Toys shows
We met up at the Brooks exit and John Stanton lead us to the PDX Tranny Show. It must have been too early for the
light weights. We only had 3 cars and a milk truck. John knows the direct route real good since we drove right to it with
no detours or site seeing. There must have been over 400 cars parked on both sides of the street for 4 or 5 square
blocks. We couldn't find spots to park together so we split up. We got there at 7 AM and I was parked 4 blocks away. 10
AM we joined up and cruised through downtown Portland to Papa's Toys in Cornelius. The sunshine had all the cars out.
The parking lot was jammed full of street rods and specials cars. The spectators had parked both sides of the road for 4
blocks out. After we left Papa's Toys we went over to A & M Customs, had hot dogs and sodas, checked out all the builds
going on there. This is an amazing place for fabrication work. There was some real radical cars being built. We left A & M

Jefferson 2nd Annual Flower Festival Show & Shine
What a fantastic day at the Jefferson Flower Festival Show. They closed down Main Street. It was full of cars, food vendors and all kinds of potted flower vendors. The car show was supposed to start at 10 AM. We arrived at 8 AM to find
most of the street already filled with parked street rods. We did end up getting good parking spots, though. The Fireman's breakfast had eggs, fried or scrambled, ham, OJ, milk and 2 pancakes for 5 Bucks (free if preregistered). Really
tasty. Ray B was whining cause it wasn't on his diet..smile emoticon The petting zoo was also a big hit. There were over 100
cars there basking in the sunshine. A lot of really nice cars I've never seen before. Jim Palmquist won the Best Import
with his Ghia (Jim, where there any others?). Nick Hoosier won the Best Orphan (not sure if it was for his milk
truck.smile emoticon ) One of our Carousel Cruise sponsors, Travis Sowers won the Best of Show with his bright red 70?
