(This email was sent to me by our brother Jacob Baptista) Ministry Team: Jill Crandall Bruce Daughtry Tammy Frintz Brian McGonagill Glen Moore Eleanor Nelson Mark Schinnerer Charlie Weatherford “It is with great sorrow that we report this to you today Brother. In Mutarara District is where 28 denominations were converted to Church of Christ though the preaching campaign that took place in January 2016. Mozambique faced a serious drought last season which caused a big famine. (Most of the people live only off the food they grow on their 1 to 5 acre farms.) This week I received report of 3 Christians who died of hunger. This morning we receiving another report that the situation is becoming worse. People were relying on roots and bush fruits. All fruits and roots got finished. Our brothers need urgent relief. Locally we are gathering small contributions that other Christians are contributing so we are asking for help from every where. Please brother help us to advocate to other people who can give hand to the families which are in starvation. Please please please on behalf of Christians we beg. Bellow is a data collected in drought area; 1- 28 congregations 2- 1428 Christians 3- 286 families. Thank you for your attention. In the name of Jesus Cristo Amen. Since I needed more information I wrote and asked and Jacob sent this: Good afternoon Brother, sorry for delay, I was still collecting quotations from suppliers, so that I submit credible information, the quotations are as follows: QUOTATION The food that is easy to obtain in nearest place and easy transportation is Maize (Corn) and Beans that is available in Maravia District 300km from Tete town. this drought affected quite the whole Mozambican territory. Fortunately Maravia is boundary to Zambia where they had a very good harvest. DISTRIBUTION PLAN This will be distributed among 286 families were by 50 kg of maize and 3 kg of beans for each family. Any addition information will share to you. Text me at 806-787-6351 or better yet, email me at [email protected]. Thanks, Tim “I'm so sorry but I have more "bad" news: I just got this email from our brother Benjamin at the Pajok Bible Learning Center in South Sudan: From: PajokBibleCenter [email protected] Subject: Pajok Date: August 2, 2016 at 9:48:03 AM CDT To: [email protected] DEACONS Travis Crandall Johny Harris Larry Mitchell Mike Owens Virgil Smith Glenn Wells “Hello brother Tim, there is something happening here whereby the rebels are kidnapping every male person ranging from 15 years and above to join them in the bush. This begun to happen today in the morning and many of us are still in the hiding place. The whole day they are operating. Please pray for us. Thanks, Benjamin” One dear sister just said to me, “I always thought that God promised to not let us starve to death”. Also that makes me wonder, “Will God protect us from death by war?” Any way, I replied, “If I knew the answer, I’d tell you, but one thing I do know is that God will make it work out for the good even if we can’t see it or understand it.” (Romans 8:28) Some things are certain in life and one of those things is… death. We are not the ones who decide who will die, why they die or how they die. I’m even glad that we don’t have to make that decision. That would quickly turn into chaos. But our Father in heaven knows ALL and He loves us far more than words can say and in His love, He makes the best decision. There is something much much more important than life and death!!! That is SALVATION!!! Our Father understands that. He does not want anyone to be lost but everyone to repent and have their sins washed away. Though we can’t see what is going on in God’s mind, we can consider some positive results that can come from these tragedies. People are now fleeing from South Sudan into Uganda, 5000 to 6000 per day. As they enter into Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia they will be welcomed by the UN, fed and housed by the UN. In the camps those hundreds of thousands of refugees have nothing to do; no job to go to, no fields to go work in, nothing. They are also very eager to gain education if it is free. They are also very receptive to the Gospel. The South Sudan Project presently has 29 trained South Sudanese preachers in 12 refugee camps to evangelize full time. What an opportunity this is. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get World English Institute courses into these camps to teach them the Gospel (Learning English by Studying the Bible)? Wouldn’t it be great if we could get full Bible training to these refugees, equipping them all to be ready to return to South Sudan to plant new churches in all of their hometowns? Brothers and sisters, Please pray. Beg our Father to protect our brothers and sisters. Plead that we will quickly rise up to opportunity with sincere love, wisdom and courage of faith! Your brother Tim Brumfield. Page 2 Brian’s Corner Announcements On Wednesday, August 3rd Taylor Robles from Hermosa in Artesia, NM will be wrapping up our Summer Series for us. Hope to see you there! Many people in life start out well, but they end up progressing poorly because they don’t plan for the pitfalls. But the Bible says the wise man looks ahead and faces reality. As we make plans for our future, we all face pitfalls, such as cultural distractions, voices of doubt, tempting shortcuts, and discouraging delays. Just look at Noah: He had pitfalls after God told him to build the ark, but he overcame them — and you can, too. Now, this doesn’t mean God will give you a goal as audacious as building an ark, but I pray he’ll give you a big goal — even an audacious one — for your next 10 years. The Bible says, “The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won’t face facts” (Proverbs 14:8 TLB). By looking ahead, we’ll not only be prepared to spot the pitfalls when they come into our lives; we’ll also be equipped to make plans that help us become the man or woman God wants us to be. Ask God to help you establish goals for the next decade of your life. Then you’ll be ready to move forward and learn how to handle the pitfalls that could potentially keep you from getting where God wants you to go. What are the lessons from your last 10 years that you can apply to your next decade? When you look to the future, who do you want to become? What do you want God to accomplish in your life? How do your goals reflect the power of God in your life? Do you dream big because you serve a big God? Page 3 Jill’s Corner God and Teenagers Teenagers scare me. I hope our youth group isn’t reading this, because I love them each dearly, but it’s true. Kort is approaching eleven years old, and I feel the tween years upon us already. The tell tale signs are emerging rapidly! At first notice, I questioned myself – I told myself that he was too young for hormones and teenage emotional outbursts – he must be too tired. Yet, they continue to emerge, more and more frequently, along with bad skin and body odor. I do believe we better prepare ourselves for this next phase of life! I hope you can hear the humor in my words, but also know that there is truth in what I’m saying. The teenage years have scared me for years. I always tell people that I didn’t teach junior high because I didn’t even like myself when I was that age! I can wipe noses and soothe irrational toddler tears all day, but the outpouring of teenage emotion or the lack of emotion coupled with sarcasm baffles me. Any of you who have survived these things are welcome to share your wisdom with me! I’m sure the Bible must have a section just on this alone, right? Well, maybe it does. I’ve been led to the story of Jonah as I search for answers on how to best handle the challenges we are only beginning to face. Jonah seems much like an adolescent in his reactions to the Lord. First, the Lord asks Jonah to do a specific task, and Jonah throws a fit, thinks how unfair this is, and runs away. Thankfully, God doesn’t throw His hands up and say, never mind, I’ll just get someone else to do this task, He doesn’t say, I’ll just do it myself, and He never gives up on Jonah. What He does do is discipline Jonah to try to help him to obey. The Lord places obstacles in Jonah’s way that require him to admit that he can’t survive without the Lord he has always known and followed. He allows Jonah to go through hardships that Jonah and the others around him are convinced will lead to his death. He protects Jonah, but God does not excuse him from his consequences. He does, however, provide the belly of the fish and protects him through it all. God also provided the time in the fish belly for Jonah to reflect and search his heart. Maybe this is a little like being grounded. Jonah is completely isolated, with no outside communication. All he is able to do is think and pray. The end result was Jonah realizing his mistake and asking for forgiveness. At this time, God did rescue him. One thing to note, as Jonah prayed he said, “…I called for help, and you listened to my cry.” Jonah knew God’s love, and he knew that God always listened. He knew without a doubt that when he needed help, he could cry out and God would listen. He knew God would always protect him.
