winter 2015 - Las Vegas Market
WINTER 2015
“New” is a word you’ll always hear at Las Vegas Market. New products? Absolutely.
New vendors? You bet. New categories? For sure. Even FIRST LOOK, your
shopping guide to product debuts and trends at Las Vegas Market, is new this
season. The new FIRST LOOK product vignettes, located in the atrium of World
Market Center Building B, highlight the best of what Las Vegas Market offers
buyers and designers: an unmatched cross-category shopping experience.
Be sure to follow FIRST LOOK during
market on Pinterest. Find the Winter
2015 FIRST LOOK boards at:
pinterest.com/LasVegasMarket
Just look for the FIRST LOOK stamp.
ON THE COVER:
You’ll find four themes in the display—“Livable Luxury,” “A Tasteful Hue,” “Modern
Boutique,” and “The Colorful Outdoors”—each highlighting important decorating
and merchandising trends for 2015. Most importantly, all of what you see in the
displays is yours for the shopping in showrooms throughout the WMC campus.
One of the key takeaways from the inaugural FIRST LOOK vignettes is a
softening of color—Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala, for instance,
isn’t as bright as recent colors of the year. “A Tasteful Hue” illustrates the role
this robust red will play in creating monochromatic interiors. “Livable Luxury,”
meanwhile, signals a rise in pastels for 2015; metallic finishes are the perfect foil
for these surprisingly livable hues. We invite you to ready yourself for summer
with “The Colorful Outdoors.” And spot the best of what you love about crosscategory shopping in “A Modern Boutique.”
Welcome to the new FIRST LOOK. Welcome to Las Vegas Market and happy
cross-category shopping!

A TASTEFUL
hue
PANTONE®’s top color pick for 2015,
Marsala, is a full-bodied hue that
complements incoming pastels, proven
neutrals and essential metallic accents.

Marsala, PANTONE®’s pick for
2015 Color of the Year, may be a
polarizing hue—naysayers took to
social media within minutes of the
forecasting firm’s announcement
in early December—but it is
absolutely present (and useful!) in
design-driven industries.
“It’s where we’re at with color,”
explains Laurie Pressman, vice president
at Pantone Color Institute. “We see a desire
for quieter shades. It’s still a strong shade, but it’s
not so overly bright [as recent Pantone colors of the
year]. Marsala is a hearty color that feeds our mind,
body and soul. It speaks to what’s real and natural.”
In home furnishings, look for Marsala in
monochromatic mixes of peachy pinks
and ivory. It suits warmer metals
and finishes, namely antiqued
gold, bronze and copper.
For more insights about
the Color of the Year, attend
Pressman’s seminar, “New
Harmonies: Changing Themes
in Color and Design Trends for
the Home in 2015” at 3 p.m. on
Monday, Jan. 19, in Worldview,
Building B, 16th Floor.
CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: The worlds of
fashion and art collide in Fendi’s 2015 Resort
Collection. It features an unexpected mix of

projects, and share a design philosophy that
has set him and his work apart from the rest.
Las Vegas Market attendees are invited to attend Varney’s
keynote at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Worldview, Building
B, 16th floor; following the presentation, Varney will sign his
latest book, “Decorating in the Grand Manor.” (The Dorothy
Draper Collection by Kindel Furniture will be on display at the
event.) Here, FIRST LOOK asks Varney to gaze into the crystal
ball and share his forecast for the year ahead.

VAHALLAN • C5-0713
The Enchanted wallpaper
collection enlivens walls with
softly striated pastels, glass
beading and plenty of sparkle.
“The world will move into a new happier color mode, where
gray, beige and white will be replaced with softer yellows,
melons, blues and mint greens in 2015. The new neutrals
will be soft pinks, which are no longer considered baby
colors. The lines of furnishing will become more round,
more huggable in style, versus the straight lines of earlier
years. Floors will feature more area rugs versus wall-towall carpet; plank hardwoods and marquetry will also
feature prominently. There will be lots of sparkle and shine
in the year ahead, including hardware in brass, silver and
aluminum. Doorknobs will become easier to handle—round
and oval shapes—compared to square and ‘nugget’ forms.
Basically, the round look in furnishings and accessories
will become the look of the future. Square and rectangular
forms will be less apparent—even in architecture.”
