Wine List - Villa Gianna
Arte del Vino Pontino Vigneti del Circeo Wine List CANTINA VILLA GIANNA Variety Selections Pioneer of Pontine Viticulture, the Giannini family decided to create its own wine cellar that came to life on 24th July 1994 with the name of Villa Gianna in honour of the luxuriant nature and the fertility of land. Our vineyards are located between Mount Circeo, wrapped in the legend of Goddess Circe, the profiles of the Pontine Archipelago islands and the low hills of Lepini and Aurunci mountains. Villa Gianna Winery began its production with the vintage 1993 - 1994 giving birth to its first Chardonnay wine, Bianco di Capriolace . In 1995 Villa Gianna Winery made its debut with a red wine, Rudéstro , produced from grapes symbol of the territory and aged in small oak casks for six months. Later on the Giannini family perfected the carbonic maceration technique of the Novello wine "Prima Luna" and finally created Elogio Mediterraneo a wine that comes from a late grape harvest and is aged in barriques. After the improvements made to the four months Long Charmat Method, in 1996 came to life the sparkling wine "Brut Etichetta Nera". Following his conviction that wine is the most authentic expression of its territory, through vinification and ageing of each individual grapes in the vineyard, in 1999 Giannini Senior created a red wine named "Barriano", which appeared on the market only in 2001 and has won national and international awards since then. After years of hard work done in order to obtain the DOC classification in June 1997 the Circeo wine production obtained as reward the DOC recognition. The skilful blend of Trebbiano, Malvasia and Chardonnay grapes in the harvest of 2006, led to the birth of the latest fruit of the Winery, "Innato", a full bodied wine with innate qualities, made from the harvest of ripe grapes directly crushed. While seasons ran fast the Giannini family was occupied in cataloging the analytical and varietal data of the different vintages. After the extraordinary 1999 vintage for the Chardonnay, the 2001 for the Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2002 for the Sauvignon, the Winery decided to dedicate three new labels to such successes that made their debut on the market in 2003: the "Vigne del Borgo". These wines crowned the passion of the family that in the course of three generations has devoted itself to wine cultivation and wine making "HIC SEMPER AB TRIBUS GENERIBUS VITES CULTAE SUNT". The delicate balance between man and environment compels us to love and respect the territory thinking not only at present but also to the future. It is for this very reason that in 1988 we abandoned the conventional agriculture in favour of the organic-mineral method that aims to maintain the natural fertility of the soil by using organic products and defending plants by means of natural products thanks to the experience of the Suolo e Salute Association (control body of the National Organic Agriculture ). Always paying attention to customer s tastes, we have made marketing choices aimed at meeting the needs of the consumer. We have thought to the young people who come for the first time to taste a fresh, sparkling and lively wine and with this in mind, in 1997 we created Bludigaia wines: White, Chardonnay and Rosè. In 1999 it was created Donna Circe , a blended wine from Trebbiano and Sangiovese grapes. It is a still wine inspired by the legend of Goddess Circe and so exciting, light and pleasant. In 1996 the Winery started a new project called Spumanti del Centro Italia to produce very aromatic and slightly sparkling wines, thanks to early harvests capable of maintaining high acidity levels of the grapes. In 1998 the Winery presented other two wines: the white one, labelled Sefora , and the red one, labelled Brigantino . Both are sweet aromatic sparkling wines obtained with the Short Charmat Method. Historical for us was to obtain in June 1997 the denomination of origin for the Circeo wine which included among the National DOC Wines the pillar wine of Villa Gianna Winery. Surrounded by the enchanting landscapes of Southern Lazio, in autumn 2007, it made its appearance the new DOC of the Latina province: the Moscato di Terracina , an autochthonous wine whose sweet taste Villa Gianna winery has always been promoting. In fact in the Odyssey we read: … Goddess Circe made advantage of the exciting scent of Jupiter s nectar to enchant Ulysses and his sailors … With passion and expertise, we have always been trying to reach the best quality/price ratio for all types of products. Consumers are looking with increasing interest for wines showing a clear indication of the territorial origin and of the vines, native if possible, used to produce them. In short, they are interested in a clean, smooth and pleasant wine that can say something about the territory and the region it comes from.
