Sime Darby Motors first involvement in Malaysia motor industry began with the distribution of Ford vehicles more than 30 years ago. It has since grown to become a major industry player in the country. The brands we represent today in Malaysia are BMW, MINI, Hyundai, Land Rover, Ford, Alfa Romeo and Porsche. 1. Sime Darby Motors’ partnership with Land Rover started more than 25 years ago, when Land Rover Malaysia, the sole franchise holder for Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles and parts in Malaysia, was set up by Pernas Sime Darby Holdings Sdn Bhd. 2. In 2005, Sime Darby Motors started assembling Hyundai vehicles under the Inokom brand at our assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah. Since then it has added BMW, Land Rover and Mazda models to its assembly list. 2. Sime Darby Motors has the capability to customise Land Rover vehicles to meet specific requirements, such as those of government agencies for military and special purposes. 3. Sime Darby Motors has the exclusive franchise of the Hertz car rental business in Malaysia which is operated by Sime Darby Rent-A-Car Sdn Bhd. Distribution and Retail Assembly 1. Sime Darby Motors’ partnership with BMW spans 7 countries and goes back to more than 30 years. 1. Sime Darby Motors’ first assembly plant was the Associated Motors Assembly (AIM) plant in Selangor, Malaysia in 1982. 2. BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Sime Darby Motors and BMW Group distributes the BMW and MINI range of vehicles. 3. Auto Bavaria, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Motors with 5 outlets across Malaysia, is the largest BMW dealer in the country. 1. Sime Darby Motors’ partnership with Porsche began on 15 March 2010. 2 2. Its subsidiary, Sime Darby Auto Performance Sdn Bhd, commenced operations as the sole distributor and dealer of Porsche vehicles and their related spare parts and accessories, together with the provision of related services in Malaysia. 3. Porsche has 2 showrooms which are located in Kuala Lumpur and Glenmarie, Selangor. 1. Sime Darby Motors, through its subsidiary Sime Darby AutoConneXion, is currently the sole distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia. 2. The plant has assembled the BMW 730iL, making Sime Darby Motors’ subsidiary, Auto Bavaria, the first BMW importer to assemble the vehicle outside of Germany. 3. The assembly operations of BMW and Land Rover was then transferred to Inokom assembly plant in Kedah which was launched in 2004. 4. Materials are sourced from the respective principals overseas as well as locally, which are then assembled for sales mainly in the Malaysian market. 5. Located in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), the plant assembles various Hyundai passenger and commercial vehicles as well as BMW, Land Rover and Mazda vehicles. 6. The plant has a current capacity of 30,000 units per annum. 7. Inokom, which occupies 40% of a 200-acre site, has the potential to expand its production facility and is poised to meet increasing demand from the Asia Pacific region. 8. In 2013 Inokom rolls out the 10,000th unit of Lorimas AU26 trucks. 2. In 2012, the Ford Ranger 2.2XLT was named the ‘Best Overall Car ‘ and ’Pick-up Truck of the Year’ by New Straits Times Cars Bikes & Trucks. Assembly lines in INOKOM 1. Sime Darby Motors’ involvement with Hyundai Motors Company, Korea’s top automaker and the sixth largest automotive manufacturer in the world, began in 2004. 2. Sime Darby Motors is involved in the entire supply chain of Hyundai vehicles in Malaysia from assembly to distribution to retail. 3. Hyundai Motors Company awarded Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors the ‘Distributors of the Year’ award in 2010. 4. To date Hyundai has 18 3S centres across Malaysia. Rental 1. Sime Darby Motors, through Sime Darby Rent-A-Car Sdn Bhd, holds the exclusive franchise for Hertz’s car rental business in Malaysia. 2. It is currently one of the major car rental companies in Malaysia with 17 outlets and over 2,600 vehicles in its fleet. Info rmation as at July 2013
