AACA Newsleter March April 2011
Volume 79, Number 2 Antique News March/April 2011 Next Meeting at Mickey’s Wednesday, March 16th at 6:30 AACA Rocky Mountain Region Letter from the President Reminder monthly meetings have changed to Third Wednesday of the month, additionally they are held at Mickey’s instead of McCoy’s. AACA Members, Welcome to the first newsletter of the year! We’ve been off to a great start so far this year. Since we voted to only do a newsletter bi-monthly, we have a lot to talk about! Special points of interest: • Monthly meeting Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 6:30 pm. • 2011 Calendar of events • Information on Murder Mystery event on March 25th Inside this issue: Letter from Mel 1-2 Mel Letter Continued 2 2011 Calendar of Events 3 Murder Mystery Outing March 25th 4 We had a great turn out for the Christmas Dinner at Mickey’s in December. Thanks to everyone who came and joined us! The gift exchange was a lot of fun as well, and I think everyone went home still speaking to each other…with the possible exception of Mark Bell who got to select about twenty gifts and couldn’t hang on them! We all had a great time at his expense, and most of us didn’t have to worry about unwrapping a present. Fortunately Mark was a great sport about the whole thing, although I’m not sure what he finally went home with! We also had a brief business meeting. In addition to the usual minutes and treasurer’s report (we still have some money!), we elected the slate of officers for next year. They are; Mel Bacon, president, Otis Hilbun, vice president, Debi Bacon, secretary and Sharlene Baker, treasurer. Special thanks to Joe Baker our outgoing vice president for all the help and support he gave the club, and me personally, last year. The membership also made three other important decisions: first to change the evening we meet to the third Wednesday of every month from the third Tuesday. The second was to change our meeting venue from McCoys to Mickey’s Steak House (where we had the Christmas Party). They have a private room where we can meet uninterrupted at no charge to the club. And the third was to publish the newsletter bimonthly. We will use email and the calling tree to notify members of issues that they need to be aware of between newsletters. I need to again thank Frank Sims, Barb Carpenter and Debi Bacon for their help with the calling tree. We all appreciate their efforts and thank them for being willing to continue to help keep us all informed. We discussed setting up a schedule for events for the year to help people plan ahead. A committee composed of myself, Kay Yates, Otis Hilbun, and Ron Carpenter was selected to meet in January and plan out the year. We met Jan. 5thand did as we were told! The results of our labor are published in the newsletter. Please look them over and mark your calendars for as many as you can attend. We’ll give a full report at the January meeting on January 19. There may be some additions. For example we need to add the Rossi Run to the list. There may also be some adjustments as the year progresses, so stay tuned for final details! We would love to have other clubs join us for any and all the events, so if you are involved with another group, please share our activities with them. Also, if any of you would like to help with any of these events, please let us know! Page 2 Antique News We did not include any national AACA events. Their schedule is published on their website www.aaca.org. We had awesome tours in January and February. In February we joined the Packard Club for a tour to Wings Over the Rockies Museum. We explored the museum and then met for lunch at a local café. Four of our members drove old cars to the event. Only one Packard member (me) was brave enough to get a car out! In February the Packard Club joined us for a guided tour of the Forney Transportation Museum, including the back rooms. We had a great tour and quite a number of classic and antique cars put in an appearance from both clubs. We again met afterwards and shared a meal at a nice local restaurant. We had a good turn out for both events. Attendance was around 25 people at both events, and was pretty evenly divided between the two clubs. This month, Sharlene Baker has set up what promises to be a fun event for March 25. It is a dinner theater buffet meal at the Adams Mystery Playhouse, 2401 N. Federal in Denver. The play is “Murder at the Speakeasy” and should be a lot of fun! Details are elsewhere in the newsletter. Otis is working on the April tour, and we’ll set everyone know final dates and times when they become available. In May Art Davis and Ron Carpenter are working on a spring tour and weenie roast. Again, details well be forth coming. Also on May 22 is the Rossi Run, be to mark your calendars for that event as well. Also, last week, Sonora Jones from Ye Olde Auto Club forwarded me information on the regional tour this year. It will be in Cheyenne, June 10, 11 and 12. Again, details are elsewhere in the newsletter. I know it breaks everyone’s heart, but we are not responsible for putting on any national or regional shows or tours this year! However, we have done such a good job on these types of events I’m sure there are some in our future. They are a lot of work, but are certainly rewarding as well. As always, this is your club, and your officers are always open to your ideas, comments, thoughts and suggestions. I’m excited about our club, and the events we will be sharing with each other in 2011! I wish each and every one of you a happy and productive new year! I guess that’s all for now!
