The H.D.J. is published by the Furrin Group, Inc. of Grand Rapids , MI. 2 The Hero Driver’s Journal – February 2012 Furrin Group General Meeting Minutes, January 17, 2012 The meeting was called to order by President Dave Vanderschaaf at 7:30 PM at El Barrio restaurant. Secretary - Mary Savage reported that the minutes of the December, 2011, meeting were in the January HDJ. It was moved, seconded, and the motion passed, to accepted them as printed. Treasurer - Blake Forslund reported that we have an approximate balance of $6,790. All bills presented have been paid. Vice President - Matt Huizing had no report. Membership - Pete and Deb Hansen reported that renewals are now due and payable. Member at Large - Eric Duram had no report. HDJ - Matt Huizing reported that the January issue was mailed Saturday, Jan. 14; they should all be delivered now. Social - Mary Savage had no report. Points - President Dave thanked Suzy Beauvais for her service as Points chairman for the past several years, and a round of applause was given. “Points” is not an elective position and the Board discussed at the Board meeting some changes to the position. It was decided to have the points handled by Membership; as some of their duties are now handled by others. “Modern technology”!! Past President - Nic Boris had no report. Speed and Ice - Curt Rosenstengel reported NO ICE!! Not much chance of having any in the GR area this winter. Speed - there is a tentative schedule for the season, details later. We are invited back to Muskegon. Rally - Jeff Boris reported they hope to do a TSD rally in early March, it is being worked on now. If you are interested in putting on a rally, or learning how to put on a rally, see him. OLD BUSINESS Vintage Racing - Bob Shedd reported that VSCDA will do their “Spring Brake” Driving School and race the first full weekend in May. Jeff Janus asked for workers to help with the event, which will be at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven. NEW BUSINESS John Atsma announced the Karting event will be 4/28/12; save the date. He will have more information in February and in March. Curt reported there was a discussion at the Board meeting on the dollar amount FG contributed to pay for each FG member to run. There was concern that we only see some members at this event, no other events or meetings. It was suggested that FG only pay $20 per person, not $30, for 2012; then making some changes for 2013 to encourage members to be more involved the rest of the year. Discussion followed. Bruce Beauvais moved that we have a $30 co-pay for 2012, motion seconded. Question called, and motion passed. Dave Vanderschaaf reported that at this time we seem to be the leader in West Michigan at putting on events, and advising/helping newer groups to put on safe, legal, well-run events. As such, we should try to put the other groups events in the HDJ, to allow wider participation in everyone’s events. (continued on page 4) The Hero Driver’s Journal – February 2012 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS Jeff Boris reported he and Nic ran “Son of Snowdrift” this past weekend. They were 6th out of 30 cars entered. It ran in the South East part of the state. Curt reported a number of FG members went to the Graveyard Motorsports event in Kalamazoo and took all the hardware! Curt reported that the collection last month for gas cards for St. John’s home took in about $135. Jimmy reported the rally in Atlanta, Michigan (who knew there was such a place) has some FG members running and some as workers. It was moved and seconded to adjourn, motion passed. Adjourned at 8:03 PM. Respectfully submitted, Mary Ruzicka-Savage, Secretary 4 The Hero Driver’s Journal – February 2012 Furrin Group Presents The Cannonsburg Tour TSD Rally Saturday March 3rd 2:30pm Registration opens 3:15pm Driver's meeting 3:30pm First car off 8:00pm First car finishes (approx) Starts at Mr Burger 5181 Northland Drive NE Ends at Qdoba 5150 Northland Drive NE Classes: Equipped Unequipped Novice Entry fee: $15 for members $20 for non members FREE if you show up in a Group B homologation car The rally is roughly 80 miles.
