Bishop Ackerman Council #5453 Burlington, KY Monthly Council Newsletter Volume 2015, Issue 7 July 2015 A Salute to Our Holy Donut Founders Inside this issue: Grand Knight’s Message 2 Knights Apparel 2 Hall Rental News 2 Birthdays & Anniversaries 2 Donut Updates 3 Family of the Month 3 Check Presentation 3 Officer and Program 4 Chair Contacts Help Needed 5 Highlights of July Business Meeting 5 Good of the Order 5 Calendar of Events 6 In the midst of the donut season, with Grant County wrapping up and Boone County starting in August, let’s not forget those Brother Knights who started it all. In 1969, one Holy Donut was 10 cents and dozen was just 65 cents more. From a table top fryer to a 40-foot trailer, we have continued their legacy of charity and service to the community. Hundreds of thousands of donuts later we’re still hard at work! Page 2 Grand Knight’s Message Congratulations to Brothers George Placke Jr. and Gene Hahn in recognition of their 52 years of service each with the council! As Charter Members, we thank them for their service to the Church, the Order, the Council and the Community. We are very blessed to have a strong and vibrant council whose presence in the parishes and communities we serve are known throughout northern Kentucky. To our members past and present for their hard work and dedication, I would like to say, “Thank you!” Now, let’s wrap this donut season up! Highlights from July Business Meeting IHM Roundtable reports discussions with Boondockers to construct a pole building behind the hall to house the donut trailer and Boondocker supplies/equipment. More details to follow. Opportunity to participate in Boone County’s ‘Seize the Streets’ initiative was tabled due to concerns by the council advocate over items in the contract for footwear and a hold harmless clause. This would have allowed the council to be responsible for picking up trash and litter on Veterans Way in exchange for signage promoting the council. The Squires are hosting another car wash for the Wounded Warrior Project scheduled for October 3rd. No roundtable reports from St. Paul or All Saints. Good of the Order Good of the Order Brother Joe Baumgartner won our Charity Drawing of $114.50 this month and proceeds donated to Mary Rose Mission..
