CALL-BACKS: July 9, 2014 11:00am-1:00pm (via invitation only) Not receiving a call-back does NOT mean you are not cast! The director will only call back actors for lead roles not determined during auditions. If you receive a call-back for a leading role and are unavailable to attend the call-back audition, you may not be considered for the role. CASTING: Final casting decisions will not be made until call-backs are complete. Students from Xclaim! and KAP are guaranteed chorus roles, but casting for leading roles will be based on summer availability and ability to best perform audition material. If you will miss a significant amount of time during the July rehearsals, you will probably not be cast as a leading role. With many chorus roles, we expect a large cast. Chorus members are allowed to audition for multiple roles. Gender will not be a factor in casting for most roles. All casting decisions are at the sole discretion of the director, including but not limited to double-casting or double-role casting. The cast list will be posted at the Xclaim! Center on Thursday, July 10 at 5:00pm and on the website: www.xclaiminc.com. MANDATORY PARENT MEETING: Saturday, July 12, 2014 10:00am One parent per cast member must attend orientation. Bring your schedules, checkbook, & student insurance information and be prepared to complete paperwork. REHEARSAL PERIOD: July 14—August 27 Rehearsals will be a mix of mornings & evenings and be divided by scenes & groups – rarely will full cast rehearse together. Chorus members with multiple roles will rehearse with each of their groups. Although the production team members may rehearse 6 days in a week, cast members will not rehearse more than 5 days per week. Leading roles will require more rehearsal in the beginning, but ALL CAST MEMBERS will be required to attend ALL PREP, TECH, & DRESS Rehearsals during the last 2 weeks of production. REHEARSAL CONFLICTS: Rehearsal conflicts affect casting. If cast, the director accepted conflicts on your audition form, but later conflicts may result in changing your role, pulling you from dance numbers, or re-casting. Rehearsal schedule and conflicts list will be included in cast member packets. NO conflicts allowed the last 2 weeks of production: August 16—31. EVERYONE auditioning sings “I Won’t Grow Up” – measures 57-73 I won’t grow up; I don’t wanna go to school Just to learn to be a parrot and recite a silly rule! If growing up means it would be beneath my dignity to climb a tree I’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow u-up. Not Me! If you wish to be considered for one of the following roles, you will also have to sing an additional song as indicated below: Persons auditioning for WENDY, MICHAEL, or JOHN sing “Tender Shepherd” – measures 13-34 Be prepared to sing this number as a round if requested Persons auditioning for PIRATES sing “Pirate March” – measures 24-36 Persons auditioning for CAPTAIN HOOK sing “Hook’s Tango” – the whole song Be prepared to speak the first part of this number in rhythm and sing parts of the song TENDER SHEPHERD Tender shepherd, tender shepherd. Let me help you count your sheep; One in the meadow, Two in the garden, Three in the nursery fast asleep. PIRATE MARCH Yo ho! Yo ho! We’re bloody buccaneers, And each a murderous crook! We massacre Indians, kill little boys And cater to Captain Hook! Yo ho! Yo ho! The terrible Captain Hook! HOOK’S TANGO To cook a cake quite large and fill each layer in between With icing mixed with poison till it turns a tempting green. We’ll place it near the house just where the boys are sure to come. And being greedy they won’t care to question such a plum. The boys who have no mother sweet. No one to show them their mistake. Won’t know it’s dangerous to eat. So damp and rich a cake! And so before the winking of an eye. Those boys will eat that poison cake And one by one (Ha-ha-ha-ha!) They’ll die! Ole! *Remember to dress for dance! All auditioners will complete a dance audition after singing. Peter Pan the Broadway musical Audition Sides Choose THREE sides to perform at the audition. Memorization not required, but it helps! Children under age 7 should be coached on the “Lost Boy” side only. Anyone auditioning for Chorus-only roles should prepare only 2 sides: “Lost Boy” and “Pirate” WENDY Boy, why are you crying? . . . You’re not crying? . . . Oh, yes you are. My name is Wendy Moira Angela Darling. What’s yours? . . . Peter Pan, is that all? Oh, it is. In that case, I’m so sorry. Where do you live? . . . The second star to the right and straight ‘til what? . . . What a funny address. I, ah, mean is that what they put on your letters? . . . Well, if you don’t get letters, your mother must get them. . . You don’t have a mother? Oh, Peter. MICHAEL I won’t go to bed. I won’t, I won’t, I won’t, Nana. It isn’t six o’clock yet. Two more minutes, please? . . . One minute more? . . . Oh dear, oh dear. I shan’t love you any more, Nana. I tell you I won’t be bathed, I won’t, I won’t! I want to play house with Wendy and John. See, they’re pretending to be like mother and father. They need someone to play the child. Now John, have me . . . If you are not going to have me, then am I not to be born at all? . . . Please, John, nobody wants me! JOHN Peter, you can really fly? Could you teach us to fly? Could you teach us to jump on the wind’s back and away we’ll go!?! Instead of sleeping in our silly beds we might be flying about saying funny things to the stars! How do we do it? . . . Think lovely thoughts? Think lovely thoughts! Fishing . . . picnics . . . sailing . . . PRESENTS!!! And away we goooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! MR. DARLING This is it, this is the last straw! I have had enough! IT WILL NOT TIE! Not round my neck! Round the bedpost, oh yes! Twenty times have I made it up round the bedpost, but round my neck, no! Oh dear no, begs to be excused! I warn you of this, Mary, that unless this tie is round my neck we don’t go out to dinner tonight, and if I don’t go out to dinner tonight, I never go to the office again, and if I don’t go to the office again you and I starve, and our children will be flung into the streets. CAPTAIN HOOK How still the night is; nothing sounds alive. Now is the hour when children in their homes are a-bed; their lips bright-browned with the good-night chocolate and their tongues drowsily searching for belated crumbs housed insecurely on their shining cheeks. Compare with them the children on this boat about to walk the plank. Split my infinitives, but ‘tis the hour of my triumph! Peter killed at last and all the boys are about to walk the plank. At last, I’ve reached me peak! All mortals envy me – no little children love me. I’m told they play at Peter Pan, and that the strongest always chooses to be Peter. They force the baby to be Hook. THE BABY! MRS. DARLING Wendy! John! Michael! Oh, Nana, I dreamt my dear ones had come back. I see you have put the night things out again, Nana. It touches my heart to watch you do that night after night. But they will never come back. SMEE: I have often heard you say that one hook was worth a score of hands for combing the hair and other homely uses. And I have often noticed your strange dread of crocodiles. The fact that one crocodile follows you from sea to sea and from land to land licking its lips for the rest of you . . . in a way, it’s a sort of compliment. But some day, the clock will run out and then he’ll get you. TIGER LILY The pirates . . . they took me! Peter Pan rescue me. He imitate Hook’s voice . . . clever boy . . . set Tiger Lily free. But I stay behind and listen—the pirates—they plot evil plan to kidnap Lost Boys and take new mother hostage—we must protect Lost Boys. They will all be killed! LOST BOY I saw the loveliest, great, white bird. It is flying this way. It looks weary and as it flies it moans, “Poor Wendy.” I think there are birds called Wendies. See, here is comes! Look how white it is. Hey, there’s Tinkerbell. Tink is trying to hurt the Wendy . . . She says Peter wants us to shoot the Wendy. Let us do what Peter wishes. Out of my way, Tink. I’ll shoot it. (pulls out bow & arrow and fires) I’ve shot the Wendy! Peter will be so pleased! PIRATE Luff, you lubber. Here’s the rock. Now then what we have to do is hoist the native on to it and leave her here to drown. This is your reward for prowling round the ship with a knife in your mouth! On to the rock with her! Do what the captain orders! Please do not just read the audition sides! Spend some time preparing for your acting audition. DANCE AUDITION Students will demonstrate dance concepts/abilities through various tests of movement as follows: Understanding of basic concepts of ballet and jazz dance movement Classic American Musical Theatre dance movements Control of core and balance Ability to complete various rhythmic patterns Ability to perform a variety of leaps Ability to perform a variety of turns Indian characters are the primary dancers, as a group.
